FEGEITOK:I was specifically referring to LiFePO4 batteries. |
FEGEITOK:Heat is lithium's kryptonite. A few reviews I've seen won't let me put this in an engine bay. It's good for campers or RTVs as the source of power for utilities not powered by the engine. |
brutustech:When you get to Oto shopping mall, Gudu. Enter the gate and immediately turn left to get to the rear of the shops to your left. Walk to the end, there's a key programming shop there. |
AutoMoTech:Thanks! |
9icetoo:I got it from a seller on Konga by the name mamtus. Sells for 4k something a can. |
9icetoo:Lol. Even in Abuja it's not as easy. I was doing those spirited stuff Saturday mornings. I leave at 6am. By 730 - 8am my preferred stretch would become clogged. At that point I shift to a different lonelier road to finish. Come to Abuja and pull the head, then I can send you the pistons. Lol On 5 treatments, I guess it's to do with the level of build up in the first place. Also I think if I were doing like a 500km trip, it wouldn't have taken 5 tanks. |
aieromon:Can't say it will make for a direct comparison since I used Liqui Moly in 5 fuel tanks. Gumout was 2. Though gumout says to use once in 3k miles or so. Personally, I'll be using LM till I find something better. |
adubam: AutoMoTech:Finally posted the Liqui Moly valve clean video. I'm impressed that this supposed valve cleaner also cleans pistons. Took multiple treatments, but we'll worth it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWKIycwZtY0 cc'ing the usual suspects😇 9icetoo aieromon paix Kirkman olenyi nnamokenna sooperrescue |
radautoworks:Noted. Looking forward to the arrival of new stock. |
radautoworks:Can we place order for some Hazmat stuff😀 I need some Redline S1 fuel system cleaner. Called the shop and it's not in stock. |
henro4niger:Done |

kingreign:Lol fineboynl:Beyond the ball joint issue, the real reason why a lot of Nigerians experience breakdowns is that they don't treat cars the way they've been designed to be treated. We buy cars with a plan to abuse them. How often do planes crash? A major reason is that planes go through a strict preventive maintenance schedule. People don't want to spend money on this critical tool for movement which can determine their life or death. There are very few faults in a car that can leave you stranded which don't come with warning signs or have a preventive maintenance schedule recommended at a certain mileage. On the ball joint, you will hear sounds akin to a door with rusted hinges being forced open when you turn the steering. You will also have the popular ka-ka-ka-ka sound when you turn the steering if its the CV axle that is worn leg pull. I had the former symptoms in 2015, replaced it with a cheap Chinese brand and immediately ordered the OEM from the US. Once fitted, the car remained solid till I sold it in 2022. Last time I tested the ball joint it still had no gap. Yea, it cost an arm and a leg, but I'd rather fix it that way and go to sleep. Sorry for the long answer! |
One other thing to keep in mind on sludge is that, a clogged PCV valve is a major contributor. I don't know that many Naija mechanics change this. That said, more cars are sludge prone even when you've done everything you should. Still not sure why I've seen more sludge on Toyota in my little experience. My basic comparison is Toyota vs Honda. I don't run a shop, so my this observation may not stand to statistical reasoning. People like Gazzuzz et al who have a large pool of cars they service would be in a better position to comment. |
AutoMoTech:I agree. But the other car 9icetoo was referring to (my friend's car) is a 2002 Camry V6 which is on the list. |
9icetoo:Thermostat was removed, but read this https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/car-parts-and-accessories/engine-sludge/index.htm certain years of Toyota were sludge prone and Toyota paid compensation. |
9icetoo:1. Mostly used Coastal 5w-30 semi-synthetic motor oil. When not available used other brands like Castrol (same oil weight). 2. Stuck to 5000km (3107 miles) religiously, didn't go by number of months although he said he changed his oil a number of times in any given year. |
aieromon:Possibly. |
turnstoner:Yep. |
AutoMoTech:Still watching much content on sludge removal lol. Seems diesel works. I agree that that 1ZZ-FE engine seems more prone to sludge. A friend of mine who has always maintained a rigorous service schedule with 5w-30 is also facing sludge on his 2002 Camry. Generally, I've seen more sludge on Toyota than Honda cars. |
AutoMoTech:Dealing with sludge in a 1ZZ-FE engine presently. Done first flush, but some sludge still remaining. Planning a more aggressive flush. I used liqui moly engine flush initially however I didn't follow up with a 2nd drain and fill. I may use diesel as part of the 2nd attempt. Still researching and planning! |
AutoMoTech:This one will take a bit longer. I estimate to have the video in about a month or so because of the method I'm using this time around. |
kowalsky:Instagram chat @diyautoworksng |
paix:I am of the same opinion. High levels of sulphur. That yellowish brown grey stuff ![]() |
adubam:Product is recommended for the gas tank not crankcase. |
Piyke:I have commenced my use of Liqui Moly as prior, with before and after footage of the combustion chamber. Early findings suggest it may be more interesting than the Gumout! |
kowalsky:I'm sure the cost I bought at will no longer be relevant e.g., dollar was 470 when I bought. Its now around 750. Plus I think customs have adjusted duty rates. That said, I recall correctly it was around 6.9 - 7 after fixing all repairs. But of course, cost is affected by mileage, degree of accident, level of duty paid etc. So don't be surprised if you see the same car going for between 7 - 12m All the best! |
RuneKingThor:Sorry, I must have missed this. Keep up with oil changes, address check engine lights ASAP, make sure you have a good & trustworthy mechanic (if you're not into DIY). If a mechanic is the type that doesn't use a scanner, deletes thermostats etc, he should not be touching a modern day car. Do preventive maintenance e.g., replacing air filter, spark plugs, coolant etc at the recommended intervals. Recently, I was in a friend's car going somewhere and it stalled and wouldn't start. The engine was replaced 2 weeks prior for insane oil consumption. I went over to the engine bay for a quick inspection and the air filter was in shreds with gaping holes meaning that sand and debris was being sucked into the engine...certainly a contributor to the demise of the previous engine. I think you get the point from the above. All the best and congrats! |
kingreign:I was thinking of this too. |
GAZZUZZ:Just disclaimer for the untrained. Even though I wouldn't do so myself. Static electricity can deploy those rascals. Some have even had airbags deploy while trying to change steering wheel emblems. |
