Resuming to wrap... While searching, I preferred airbag deployment compared to extensive body damage. That said, I wanted no side curtain airbag deployment. Main reason; it usually rips the headliner and I don't know a good upholstery guy who can give a factory finish. I also didn't want front passenger airbag deployment. On the 2013 - 2017 Accord, once the front passenger airbag deploys, the entire dashboard will need to be changed. Poor design in my opinion. |
GAZZUZZ: Weldone. I really hope people take advantage of this. |
GAZZUZZ:Yes o! Let us update. Just got off a call now and heard one ![]() Hood latch - Bonnet catcher ![]() This is the part that locks the hood |
aminubala20:I feel you and totally understand. A lot of dubious insincere sellers. You describe what you want and they tell you its available. You get there, sometimes its not the pics shown, or its just a far cry from initial description. The most annoying were the ones trying to sell cars with fake custom duty. ![]() I met some good sellers though, just that the spec wasn't available. I almost wanted to continue my search to Lagos, but settled on importation finally. |
Why I avoided 2013 - 2014 years... As much as possible, its best practice to avoid years sporting new models. Carcomplaints.com nicknamed '013 - 014, "the clunker" Doesn't necessarily mean new design years are all bad. Although the same site advises to avoid the 2003 Accord like the plague, I have had a very good experience with the same car.. But, of what use is knowledge, if you don't use it?
|
CarGuideNG:Well done boss. Your business dedication, ethic and speed when it comes to VIN search, is to be envied. Keep it up! |
The final video on the SRS reset series. Nice to finally have the red light off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mXdyT8OXTU |
king406:The reasons I prefer 4cyl over the V6 are a couple: 1. V6 equals more parts and tend to have more complaints in general 2. 4cyl has a timing chain which should last the life of the vehicle unlike timing belts on V6 3. More $$$ to maintain V6: e.g. 4 AF/O2, 6 plugs etc. Fuel consumption is really not my issue but preventive maintenance components since I tend to be a maintenance freak. 4. Less space in the engine bay for repairs ![]() I will still come to why I chose the 2015 - 2017 years... |
I also saw some clean cars I would have paid for, however they were above my price ceiling at the time. Did I mention I largely used jiji, snowballing, plus visiting car stands as search methods? |
I really remember this Silver 2016 EXL I inspected at Galadimawa. Loved it. Very clean. Custom duty was among the highest I saw. Price was within budget, however, front driver wheel was a tad twisted. Wasn't sure if it was frame or suspension damage, just decided to walk Would have bought if not for this one thing. |
Piyke:They were many: 1. Frame damage: non-centrally placed wheel in the wheel well etc. 2. 200k mileage mascurading as 88k ![]() 3. Altered VIN: Including swapping the underwindshield VIN stamp 4. Fake custom duty ![]() 5. No custom duty disclosed as so. 6. A car with as much as 14 current SRS codes yet the airbag light is off...alias tape or bulb deletion . Airbag deployment was not exclusion criteria, however having e.g frame damage in addition, was.7. "Nothing to fix, buy & drive" : only for you to get there, no need to even start the car. 8. Engine sound suggesting mechanical damage. Will update if I remember |
kingreign:There were many things ![]() |
Piyke:I had a routine. 1. Inspect for frame damage and assess degree of prior accident. Virtually all cars were accidented. The only cars that were not, were flooded cars. 2. Inspect engine including AC lines. AC line welds were a turn-off 3. Scan all modules 4. Listen to tone of engine 5. Inspect custom duty If the above checkout... 6. Drive the car 7. Collect the VIN for a If 7 is good 8. Verify custom paper |
Conner44:I think you should first do an inspection to physically identify the bushings needing replacement. E.g. A broken passenger side engine mount will present with clattering noise in the suspension when going over uneven roads (the type some call chain-gallop). If unsure what to lookout for, you can open a thread and post pictures of the bushings seen on inspection. There are so many components in the double wishbone setup of this Accord that can cause noise... |
Piyke:I started my search locally without importation on the table. I combed car stands in Abj. Wuse, Garki, Gwarinpa, Kubwa axis.. I saw things |
BamBamK:So many things oyibo cannot relate to in this country o Firing sensor, raising sensor etc. Visit this thread if you haven't already. You will see things ![]() https://www.nairaland.com/2938231/inside-kazeems-dictionary-nicknames-car |
BamBamK:I can neither confirm nor deny ![]() |
Conner44:Thanks! |
Let me backtrack, a bit... I was in the market for well over a year. Covid only made things difficult. But the real difficulty was, finding what I wanted in a new car. It had to be Honda, Accord, with the following; 1. EX orEXL. 2. 4cyl. 3. 2016 - 2017 (I could do 2015, but upgrade to aftermarket entertainment system in pursuit of Android Auto, plus a face-lift to 2016 exterior, were MUSTs). 4. Super clean. 5. Ideally, less than 100k miles 6. NO Custom duty short payment. Will pick up on salient highlights in subsequent posts... Modified...forgot the mileage criteria |
kingreign: . |
BamBamK:Have not fully accepted o . This is a hobby, really. |
I only discovered these differences after I was sent a supposed OEM from Lagos. Only for it to be the same thing. In fact, the airbag used for the replacement video above was the knockoff . Didn't know at the time. Had to return the evil stuff. Again, Kingreign gave me a different Lagos contact who supplied the genuine stuff; just what Honda prescribed. ![]()
|
Also these aftermarket covers have no Honda inscription on their reverse sides...
|
Piyke:Let me address this quickly.... After searching thoroughly in Abuja for a used OEM steering Airbag, none was found. The 2013 - 2014 use a different part number from 2015 - 2017 Accords. Apo, Gudu & Zuba did not like this news . Oga 2013 - 2017 na the same thing! E remain small make dem abuse me, but I persisted. Now, there are a couple evil practices airbag sellers engage in: 1. Deployed airbag modules are covered with aftermarket covers and sold ![]() 2. None-OEM new airbag modules are installed in Honda aftermarket cover/housing ![]() Given how sensitive the SRS is, only OEM should do! Now observe the font and attention to detail in the lettering of the deployed OEM airbag (Image 1) Aftermarket (image 2) . Spelling looks more like 'AIRB AG'.

Resuming... Got this from IAAI. Preferred the site although it has fewer car options (compared to Copart). Auction fees are cheaper, plus virtually all cars have the 360 degree views for both interior & exterior. Thanks again Kingreign. I remember I sent you a few lots I considered to act as a 2nd eye. Thanks to Gazzuzz too. I know I disturbed you with some lots! Tuale. Carguide handled the VIN search plus several others that I didn't buy. Eventually, I settled for the run and drive car with 69k original miles . |
Kirkman:Thanks! |
kingreign:Baba you don come now . Learn a lot from you too! |
aieromon:Yea. Thanks. Most of the audience on YouTube are in the US. Doing this here because there are certain elements that are beneficial to Naija car owners, which an oyibo man will not understand . You know our country is legendary. Reminds me of the airbag experience . Will update later. Elder brother is still there o. 3 people want to buy, but for now, it's a project vehicle. There are a few repairs I want to do and feature on YouTube. |
nosiebaba:Thanks! |
I really learnt a lot through this. From importation to experience with knock-off airbag mascurading as genuine OEM. More on this later. |
I did body work & paint work externally. @Kingreign's panel beater did the beating. 'Make I permanent am?' Only kingreign will understand this ![]() In all he did well. Thanks King for staying through the panel work!!! I did painting (just the fender) at one other paint shop. I undertook all the SRS diagnosis and repairs and documented them in a playlist on YouTube. It's presently 4 videos. You can watch here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2pms4eLDw4WQlBoSgJ6oaJRT-DOR1F-i 1.
