I'm in the midst of reviewing the effect of a fuel system cleaning product, however, what I saw in the before state of the combustion chamber (2017 Accord) is the reason for this post.
I think we really had impurities way before the recent alarm... I'll post pictures. I used a borescope camera for cylinder inspection.
charlesadeoye: Thanks sir Which would you advise between the A80, A80pro, x100pad pro 3 and the D8
Yes boss. It still boils down to...
Piyke: Getting a scan tool is a balance of: 1. Required functions 2. Budget 3. Frequency of updates/availability of functions when out of subscription
The tools are at different levels. Incrementally: 1. D8 - advanced ECU coding 2. A80 - improved hardware retains advanced ECU coding 3. X100 pad 3 - tuned towards advanced key programming with add-on accessories. 4. A80pro - adds J-2534 ECU flashing but does not have the same level of key programming prowess of pad 3.
So it really depends on what you want to use it for and your budget. A80pro is the most expensive.
NB: Remember to specifically check brand compatibility to ensure it covers what you really need. e.g., the A80pro flashes some BENZ ECU's but doesn't flash Honda ECU's at all.
It's definitely not perfect and not for everyone, however, I thought to share, in case you are in the market for a scanner with $500ish as your max budget.
Getting a scan tool is a balance of: 1. Required functions 2. Budget 3. Frequency of updates/availability of functions when out of subscription
When buying a scanner, especially if you want to keep up with newer vehicles, you should also consider cost of updates. This has 3 years of free updates and it's $99 per year for subscriptions thereafter.
I did a review of the XTOOL D7 scanner which is the first bidirectional scanner (aka active scan tool) I know with a 7" display, and yet retails for under $500!
I've had over 2weeks of hands on time and it's looking good. If you are in the market for a bidirectional scanner and you're on a budget, you can add the D7 to the list of scanners to consider before pulling the trigger
mrcoolautofix: I ran into problems trying to resolve a problem with vw system update, I have data of 10gb files to download, before that I need a software of 620mb, so I made 6gb sub for 7 days sub, I started with the 620k it was around 500mb & I got notifications that I have 500b left, next second I got another, 200mb left next 50 next you don't have active data subscriptions, I went crazy I quickly made another 6gb sub same thing happened it quickly draw my attention cos I am using my phone as hotspot & it takes a record of used data, I checked from February & I was told I haven't used up 8gb, it's hurtful cos I sub 6gb every 5 days for 1500, I am Sharing this cos this is theft case, which is going on a massive scale, yet Nigeria Yahoo is the talk of the day when we have a big company stealing from individuals here. Worse it automatically sub for daily data after that.
Well done. I think you took a risk doing ECU update with hotspot. Better to go with proper WiFi to prevent dropped connections from calls etc.
So, my 7 year old child recently had his British passport mailed to him in Nigeria. He now has a flight to UK coming up.
My question is, will he be allowed to board as he doesn't possess a Nigerian passport? Please, note that I paid the airline for chaperone service. I would really appreciate answers from immigration guys or frequent travellers.
Thanks all.
Nigerian passport will be required to show evidence of how he entered the country, especially since the British passport does not have a Nigerian visa. Better to get a Naija passport. It's quite quick if you go for express.
I cleaned the plastic PCV valve on the 2017 Accord and avoided all the harsh chemicals that degrade plastic: carb cleaner, brake cleaner and throttle body cleaner.
selfmadeOLX: I got this Everstart 75A battery for my car as recommended by majority at mid 2020, very sure it’s genuine as It’s been 1.5yrs since then
Just today I wanted to head out and the car wouldn’t ignite or even roll the fans, all lights on the dash were dim. Had to unlock the car manually as it didn’t respond to the key imobilizer. The battery was flat worn.
- Is 1&half year a good life span for a car battery? - I did notice traces of dried up liquid on the top of the battery. A production flaw? As another nairalander has experienced this
I need where to get genuine Everstart or it’s equivalent. Your suggestions will be appreciated
When going to buy car batteries, I always go with my battery analyser. Got one from Konnwei. Extra investment, but it has since paid for itself. Since I started this practice, I get about 3years out of the regular Korea batteries sold here. It's possible you got a sulfated battery at first. My guess is, that, coupled with a number of other things, lead to the early demise.
I just recently got a Honda Accord, EOD Since I got it. I recently tried fixing the AC, the mechanic advised I change the compressor and condenser with some other parts, which I did. Ever since then the car vibrates and goes off on the road whenever the AC is on. The mechanic later increased the power of the engine, yet the problem is still there. Even more complicated because it now consumes more fuel. I am really confused at the moment. What could be the cause.
I live in Lagos, on the island, ajah. It seems there are really no good mechanics here
Just from this bolded, I can tell you should be looking for a new mechanic. You usually don't solve such problems by adjusting the throttle cable manually, except if the cable is loose from a prior job or something. Do you have a scanner? Any codes? I think you need to take this for someone to inspect in-person. You already have good suggestions up there. Naija kazeem-touched engines can be challenging to provide remote support on.
Reminds me of inspecting a friends EOD just last week, a proud Peugeot AC compressor had dethroned the Honda Denso OEM. The transmission oil was about 3 times higher than normal... Speechless.
By the way Bennett Read 1800w pressure washers are on sale at Game Abuja for 60k! Just in case you're planning to buy. It's a steal. Was previously at 105k.
Please kindly help me to resolve this issues please
P0012 - If you are lucky, this could be solved by ensuring your oil level is where it should be. Check your oil level. Could also be that your oil is dirty. Is your oil change regular? There are other causes of this code too; variable valve timing solenoid + oil control valve circuit issues. Usually precipitated by sludge, but the solenoid itself can fail. Try to shine a torch through your oil pour hole to see if there's sludge present. That said, also check for loose/poor connection at the connector + integrity of the wires of the VVT solenoid. You can Google VVT solenoid location 2004 Camry to know how to proceed.
P0031 - speaks to the air-fuel sensor, specifically the heater element circuit. Could be poor connection, bad wire or that the heater element in the sensor has failed. If you have a multimeter & know how to use it, there's how to check the heater element of the sensor. Let me know... Lastly, it's always good to sort out O2 sensor/emission issues to preserve your catalytic converter...
Are there any pointers that may consider when doing physical inspections? I know about VIN/Carfax check, but now that they've started altering VINs, how do you check for those things?
You're welcome. You just have to have an eye for detail and know the OEM stamp like the back of your palm. With this, you'll be able to tell a fake stamp.
Also, a scanner will identify the true VIN from the ECU...
SportsHD: Speed kills. One needs to reiterate this well. I'm glad they weren't hurt.
I have a stupid friend that does 90-130 km/hr on that road anytime he's coming back from work at night. His excuse is that the roads are wide and free. Drives a 2014/15 Honda. The car moves very fast too.
He doesn't hear word, I hope the car won't take him one day. I'll show him this post when he comes back tonight.
I hope God helps your friend to listen. This was how I lost a cousin.
kingreign: Thank God it all ended with no life lost and no injuries that caused one to be maimed or permanently confined to a wheel chair.
The rate at which Nigerians drive recklessly leaves much to imagine. It's a lesson for us all who's just read this post. We need to be more alert, much more sober and extra careful when behind the wheels.
buygala: Same Airport road wey I dey blow 170km/hr regularly..these v6 engines are built to be pushed..and that road is practically the only road where I can give her some kind of latitude to show what she's got ...
Once did 210 on that road and everything just went quiet...it was as if my car was floating on clouds...it was that dangerous quiet that brought my senses back..quiet wey be like say my dead ancestors don dey observe one minute silence for their incoming son ...
.That road is the closest thing in Nigeria to an Autobahn ....That road dares you to finish yourself
Op couldn't have said it any better tho... maintaining a safe distance while driving is key...
Although I kinda feel that Land Cruiser suffered a tyre mishap which led to the skid ....since the narrative didn't state that it was rear-ended or T-boned by another vehicle
I beg you to reduce your speed o. Its tempting but Naija is legendary. That's how someone will be speeding and one nama will just enter the road...
On topic, couldn't really see what initiated the loss of control.
Immediately, people started racing out of the car as if it was going to explode. It looked like a family returning from a wedding. 4 guys in Asoebi, plus an older woman who was now sitting in shock by the side walk. The guys were hugging each other, and I could imagine, thanking God. I didn't observe any injuries.
The lesson here. Let's keep a safe distance from other cars while driving... This could have easily become a pile up of some sort.
After observing no immediate help was required, as per injuries, I turned on my left-turn signal, merged back onto the highway and left.
Then the troubled SUV emerged in front of me. It was a 2005 (or similar year) Toyota Land Cruiser. It had done a 270 degree spin, swerved across the middle lane, which the trailer was on, and was now moving with its rear across my own lane towards the service lane.
It entered rear first into the gutter separating the main express way from the service lane. Both rear tires ruptured from the impact with the edge of the gutter. Due to its speed, it continued out of the gutter, went across the service lane and finally came to rest by the road kerbs.
I held my breath while all this happened. BTW I had cleared off the road and parked.
Piyke: I was cruising at 80 - 100km/hr on the inside right of a trailer. The trailer was about 5-car lengths in front, in the middle lane.
Suddenly, by the corner of my eye, I caught what looked like a car zap by my left on the lane closest to the median barrier. Nothing happened immediately until about 5 seconds later..
Next the trailer did a sudden swerve coming into my lane. Instinctively, eyes looked in the rear mirror, thankfully car behind kept a safe distance. I did too from the trailer. I applied the brake, when simultaneously the sound of screeching tires filled the air.
It was then it became clear. The trailer was manoeuvring to avoid the car to its left that had lost control.
