Back in the day, FIFA WPOTY used to be the big one. The Ballon d'or was just THAT second award. Then there was the merger and later the split. But ever since then, the award has not been the same. I don't know what happened but the Ballon d'or somehow just took its place as the biggest individual prize in football.

FIFA needs to switch things up if the award is to redeem its past glory. The Ballon D'or voting system is far from perfect. I mean just look at the Top 30 this year. You have journalist nobodies with zero ball knowledge voting with blatant bias. They can do a lot better.

FIFA should learn from these flaws, review their current methodology and come up with a critical voting system that is actually based on performances and less on hype and PR. They can even include a stats-oriented system like those of Opta to help simplify things.

This was what caused friction between him and Tuchel, who didn't see him as a 6. His awareness for a defensive midfielder is mediocre, especially on transitions. The intensity is there but the actual defensive skills and instincts are missing. Even his formerly elite passing is slower and less incisive these days.

But despite the drop off, Kimmich is still an important piece in Kompany's system and can't be discarded. Bayern has tried the traditional 6 option with Palhinha and look how that turned out. We can only hope Pavlovic continues to develop so he can make that double pivot stronger and then finally take over as the main man in that midfield. There's also Tom Bischof who is also a great talent.
