Messi winning this one is a big embarrassment for the awards. Haaland was clearly robbed. The period under review was Dec 19 (Post-WC) to Aug 2023. Messi's performances during that period while good wasn't deserving of the award. Everything was pointing to a Haaland win. All those wey vote for Messi dey ment.

Rodri was also snubbed for the FIFProXI. 6 Man City players and no Rodri. Unbelievable. The whole thing is no more than a popularity contest. Every year, there is always one controversy or the other.

You mean Pochettino should turn a group of inexperienced youngsters into world beaters in less than 6 months? How many of Chelsea signings were his picks? The man doesn't have much of a say in transfers and you expect him to create magic with players dumped at his feet. He's been asking for reinforcements since late last year, we are almost halfway through the transfer window, Chelsea are yet to sign anyone.

Poch has his faults but those at the top are not helping matters.

I think the mess at Chelsea goes beyond Poch, even though he is not entirely blameless with his questionable tinkering. There is no guarantee that changing the manager now will make things better. The way I see it, the environment at Chelsea is the biggest problem. From the guys at the executive level to the players on the pitch, that club is soaked in tension. Tension, not pressure. You can almost smell it. There is so much fear and doubt at Chelsea. Players second-guessing themselves, losing composure when it matters the most. You can't get anything done under such conditions. Things are made worse by the fact this is a young squad, ill-equipped to do deal with the situation. If it was Chelsea of old with all their veterans, they would grind their way of this storm but not these ones.

Boehly's faith in youth is misguided. You can't win anything at the highest level with just kids. Player recruitment has to be better. Get in those experienced quality players in key positions to take the pressure off these youngins. Give Poch whatever he asks for, and if he fails to impress, you can now sack him. This thing no hard nau.

LOL. I totally agree with you. I suspect this is one promotional and publicity campaign in disguise. As a former POTUS, Obama's taste and takes on issues would always generate attention, especially if it's something more personal or hobby-related like favorite TV shows, music, books etc. Only in this case, it's not actually his list. The list has become something of a yearly tradition. You actually have people looking forward to seeing who makes the list and what not. I won't be surprised if there is serious lobbying by the big labels and record execs to get on that list. Making the list is seen as a 'stamp of approval' by one of the most influential men on the planet. Shoutouts don't come bigger than that.

Obama is 'influencing', but on a major scale. Lesser noise, more impact. It's a win-win for everyone involved. Obama maintains his up-to-date, cool persona while the artistes and songs featured on the list get crazy publicity.

I trust Txiki to correct his Kalvin Phillips mistake by signing Wirtz.

I still feel Pep did Phillips dirty sha. The weight jibe and then recently apologising for not playing him as much He(Kalvin) would have wanted. Which kain eye service be that one? Pep's tough love approach can be brutal on players with certain dispositions and i think Phillips is one of them. In my head, i can almost picture Pep berating him for playing 10 degrees narrower or for not offering an overload at the hypotenuse of a possession triangle or any of those flimsy tactical details when mild criticism with a word of encouragement would suffice. Musiala and Wirtz are too similar to play together. It's the German equivalent of the Lamps-Stevie G conundrum. Germany are already lightweight in midfield with Gundo so shoehorning those two alongside him would be a recipe for disaster. Wirtz' sharp decision-making might give him an edge over Musiala, who dey do too much at times but the magic Jamal is capable of, mehn! Good luck to Nagelsmann on that one. Messi is human like everybody else, but his football talents, skills, mastery and influence eclipse every other skillful player's compared to him.

While Messi kind of player comes once in a generation, his compatriots comes around every decade or less. That is why Messi's exploits lingers in many people's memories

I think what you really want is that others should be given awards too to compensate them so that Messi wouldn't monopolies it.

Did Messi deserve to win the Golden Ball at the 2014 World Cup? Yes or No. He is the best to ever do it, no doubt but there are times you feel there is a bias at play. These awards are for a particular period under review. No one is saying Messi isn't the best player in the world, but was he the most outstanding over that particular period of time? Haaland had a better 2023 than Messi. But obviously, he is nowhere near Messi.
