Is this that garden egg thing that grows in nigeria? I remember my mom smuggled some seeds into the states. i used to love eating them back when i was a toddler just because of the texture. smiley man, those were the days.

But anyway is this an indeginous species of Tomato? Or has it been domesticated in nigeria from the original south american stock?
LOL a'lot of these responses from africans are funny. Let me make it clear i mean no disrespect this is an African forum I am a black american coming on African turf. But i have to keep it real at the same time

Africans are not the alpha and omega for black americans. Black americans have created their own culture, their own influences and icons. And our culture has spread worldwide from the USA to Japan. Thats enough to justify why i think africans should look up to black americans

You say black americans are treated like second class citizens in a country we built, Than what are africans? Your treated like fourth world citizens in a country you dominate. Its like the kettle calling the pot black lol

Bottom line is i find it crazy how africans get on blacks for the negativity in our culture, while at the same time the most positive, powerful and influential forces in the AFRICAN diaspora is from Black Americans
Please clarify for me. What exactly is this culture A.A's have spread to the world?

A good safe car.
Ive never owned a s40, but i was looking to buy one last year, i have always heard that the older volvos (post 95, pre 1999) are usually very reliable and safe. And i know some people who own this car and it never caused them problems. Whats the milage, and is it a diesel?

I dud get a 2000 volvo s80 though. Stay away from the 1999-2003 S80 like the plauge every part of that car will break down at least once before 150k miles.

i Recomend you look at some of the car review websites. for an in depth look at what can go wrong with the car.

Farrakhan has a point. Ghaddafi has done alot of good things for libya. Since 1969 when he took power things have steadily been improving in that country. The life expectancy is 74, and libya is considered a developed country.

Foreign AffairsRe: More Than 8,000 Libyans Killed In Revolt: Rebel by pleep(m): 11:37pm On Mar 23, 2011
1. the proof for that point was all over the news when it happened. the rebels broke into the armoury and took the weapons there which led to pro gaddafi efforts to bomb the armoury. if yu have also been following the news you would have known that the protesters are not well armed neither are they well trained. they were only able to make grounds because the libyan military underestimated them however when the then Libyan military regrouped the rebels were pushed back all the way to benghazi from tripoli and would have been exterminated if not for allied intervention.
Alot of the protesters were Ex- military that deserted and joined the protestors. The rebel leaders are well trained. and they are well armed, they have several tanks and anti aircraft guns. The reason the protestors gained so much ground in the begining is because the Libyan army is weak and fragmented  with only about 25 thousand troops (they have been defeated by Chad) Ghadafi did not want it to be powerful enough to attempt another Coup.

gaddafi "developed beyond its peers"
life expectancy is about 70 yrs. Libya is considered a developed country. Thanks to Gaddafi

those clamouring that america is looking for oil are probably not even aware that obama haas said there will be zero ground forces involved and that the U.S is trying to pull back from its position of leadership but no other nation or organization wants to tke the lead.

but what exactly is your point?
Most of the oil activities in libya are controlled by a state owned company that keeps 49% of the profits, that makes it hard for multinational companies to make money. if a democracy is enacted in libya this state company will probably cease to exist, and shell, Bp, Exxon will swoop in. this crisis has also caused oil prices to rise. So as far as the U.S is concerned to quicker its over the better.

Libya is considered a developed country. These improvments came after ghaddafi deposed of king farooq. I heard the BBC say that the majority of libian live in uttur poverty. he represents the side of the story the mainstream media is refusing to tell you about. Not everyone in libya is against ghaddafi if I were to guess I would say that the protestors could be less than 25%. A vocal armed minority is a very powerfull thing. the united states won it's independace from Britain with less than 25% active support. In these sorts of things the majority is usually apathetic.

@ everyone.

I think we can all agree the the rift between Africans and African Americans in primary socio-econonomic in nature.

In the united states educated, higher class Africans do not get along well with A,A's that are of lower class. but when those same Africans meet highly educated A.A's we get along fine.

And in Europe were African Americans are popular. African immigrants make it harder for A.A's to assimilate or vacation (the u.s once had a warning advising black people not to travel to Spain) especially in Southern Europe were illegal Africans are often involved in crime.

Circumstances often dictate that Africans and african americans from different socio- economic groups meet, thus the animostity.

On this thread i only talked about the bad experiences i have had with African Americans growing up. And i neglected to mention that older African American people are some of the friendliest people i ever met, they always give you a nod or wave even if your complete strangers and always help you out when your in need. I also didn't mention my A.A friends who always had my back in elementary school.

buts whats really important is not how we get along in the west. Its how A.A's and African americans get along in the motherland Africa. And the A.A's that travel to Africa as tourists usually get along wonderfully with the locals.

Have you noticed that it is always Asians who sell stuff marketed for black people? like weaves and hair products also tobbaco shops and gas stations? its kinda annoying actually, especially in the U.S because it takes money out of the community. Asians make so much money off us.

This is what I don't understand, the Africans I've talked to here in Germany are not very fond of AAs mostly because AA men and African men compete for these German women, in Paris all the Africans are cool with me, some of the Nigerians think I'm an Igbo who can act and talk like an AA which is funny because I dont get offend at being mistaken for an Igbo, but in London its the same like in Germany, Africans there are not very fond of AAs. I guess attitudes will vary according to region.

I have great respect for a lot of things in Africa and know most of what happens bad there is due to the former European colonists meddling in African affairs, not the masses of the people themselves.

Any system built on dominance will inevitable collapse because of the strains and contradictions inherently embedded in such a system. It's like a boiling pot. You can only keep the lid on it for so long before it overflows. Dominance of one by another is contrary to the most basic, fundamental human ideal, and therefore, at some point will meet the necessary resistance internally or externally, that will ultimately kill it. Thus any system characterized by the dominance of one group of humans by another will ALWAYS meet its waterloo, no matter what ''plans'' are put in place with the hope of achieving infinite dominance.

The Final Decline of the West

Dominique Moisi

PARIS

In 2040/2050, will demographers speak of the white man’s loneliness in the way historians once referred to the white man’s burden to describe the so-called imperial responsibilities of some European nations?

Demography is not an exact science. Countless dire predictions, from that of Malthus to that of the Club of Rome, have been proven wrong. But, according to a recent and very convincing essay published in the magazine Foreign Affairs , a dual demographic and economic trend is taking place that will result in spectacular shifts by the middle of this century. The Western world will represent only 12% of the world’s population, with Europeans reduced to 6%. (In 1913, a year before the outbreak of World War I, Europe was slightly more populated than China.) Economically, the West will account for around 30% of global output a level that corresponds to Europe’s share in the eighteenth century and down from 68% in 1950.

What we are witnessing can be seen is a return to the past, with the West returning to its old place in the world before the start of China’s long process of historical decline at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The West’s long period of global dominance is ending, encouraged and accelerated by its own mistakes and irresponsible behavior. We are entering a new historical cycle, in which there will be proportionally fewer Westerners, more Africans and Middle Easterners, and with greater relevance economically and strategically many more Asians.

It is with these figures in mind that one must consider Barack Obama’s decision not to attend the next European-American summit that was due to take place in Madrid in May. It would be tempting to use a formula coined during the Cold War to describe the comparative evolution of the United States and the Soviet Union and to apply the notion of competitive decline to the relationship between the US and Europe. An America that may be undergoing a process of relative if not absolute decline chooses to ignore a Europe that in US eyes is no longer a problem compared with Asia or the Middle East, and that offers little help in finding solutions to the problems that most vex Americans.

In a hasty and excessively provocative manner, some in the American media are starting to speak of Obama as a second Jimmy Carter and predict that he will serve only one term. What is more serious is the impression that the American political system, with its inability to transcend party divisions and forge national consensus, is increasingly sclerotic.

America's political institutions have aged like the country’s infrastructure. They were devised more than two centuries ago for a mostly agrarian world. Today, they need to be amended and rejuvenated. But that may not be possible, given the sacrosanctity with which many Americans regard the US Constitution.

As for the European Union, the problem is not what will not happen in Madrid. The EU’s problem is much more what happened in Copenhagen last December at the summit to save the planet, or what is taking place before our eyes with the challenge to the euro posed by the weakness of some of its member states, most prominently Greece.

In Copenhagen, Europe came with a common and responsible position. The EU was showing the way to other great actors and behaved as the good pupil of the world class. The Union was ignored, with the US and China choosing to disagree over its head. Europe must realize that it cannot be seen as a model for anyone if no one any longer takes it seriously as a global actor.

But how can you be taken seriously by others if you do not take yourself seriously? The EU’s new High Representative for external affairs, Baroness Catherine Ashton, tried to justify her failure to go to Haiti in the immediate aftermath of its terrible earthquake by saying, I am neither a nurse nor a fire person. Lack of such skills did not keep US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton from traveling to the scene of the devastation to show here support and concern.

Confronted with revolutionary demographic and economic transformations, Americans and Europeans should behave in a much more responsible manner. Instead of ignoring the other (the American way) or lamenting a wounded ego (the European way), they should confront the common challenges they face as a result of a globalization process that they are no longer able to master.

Dominique Moisi is a Visiting Professor at Harvard University and the author of The Geopolitics of Emotion.
hmm. Thats a very interesting article, i think i agree with you on this one. The west is declining and it is unnatural for one group on people to dominate a larger group of people.

Although you're being marginalize, stigmatize, disproportionately under-represented in decision making bodies, and often used as scapegoat when new laws are passed, you lack the skills and motivation to go on yourselves and make it big.

Enough of the media blaming. Crack is destroying the AA community. You're just 13% of the entire population and already 27% of you are in Prison for drug related offences. I do understand from the positivist point of view that you commit crime because of the social and economic deprivation emanating from your govt, you're not making it easier for yourselves as well. 1 in 3 deaths among AA is homicide. You glorify rap music that is so disrespectful not only to women but to your mothers. Rap music account for the deviant behaviour amongst AA.

Your divorce rate is so high that your girls are running away from committing themselves to a long term relationship. You have baby fathers and mothers, but no real father/mother. Single parenting/lone parenting dominates the AA community. Single parent children accounts for all major crimes being committed by AA in the state.

Get yourselves educated to a standard that will leave the whites with no option than to recognise your superiority.
I agree the AA's on this thread are really sugar coating the truth about their role in America. But we can't ignore the fact that us Africans (not in the U.S) are pretty Phucked up also. sad

however, there are several indicators that the wests time is numbered.
[li]lowered birth rates- smaller workforces/ smaller armies more immigrants and the populations are aging[/li]
[li]Softening of the populace- people are less willing to do dificult jobs and endure hardship[/li]
[li]people in the west are also becoming more ignorant and less educated in comparison with other countries especially in Asia[/li]
[li]The majority of people in the west are actually good decent people, not the ruthless killers and thives they once were- the government must sugarcoat its activities.[/li]
but the real problem is not the West its the North. look at a map and you will notice that most of the powerfull countries are in the far north of the globe. When the west falls  countries like China and korea will just take its place. The honest truth is that china is obviously at a lower stage of societal development than the west is. And they will have less quams about blantant and horrible human rights abuses in the name of their national interests than the softened people in countries in like Europe and America. People in the west derive a great deal of their self esteem from beliving that they are the good guys.

Are you suggesting that introspective philosophy of the type that leads learned men to envision societal collapse began with the westhuh?

You grossly underestimate the knowledge and SOPHISTICATION of ancient civilizations, in particular, PRE-WESTERN civilizations.
The Romans assumed thier civilization would last forever, as did the persians and the egyptians. the malians concept of ther finitity was so skewed that their king gave away hundreds of millions of dollars worth of gold on one trip to Mecca. The chinese were so blinded by their perception of perpetual dominance that they ignored every indication that thier days were numbered until they became the LovePeddler of the world. The History of these fallen empires is well taught and understood in 'western society'
and thus they made plans for their civiliations future. The western domination should have ended with colonization but they created globalization to keep the system going. The Roman empire lasted for about a thosand years and the military advantages they had over their enimies were NOTHING compared to what we see today with the west,  at this rate the domination of the world by the western powers will last a very long time,  keep in mind how much money they spend on weapons and technology, billions of $ - thats planning for the future.

Aljazeera is not Western news.

And I would believe them over Libyan media. How many times did we hear that they had not killed civilians before they admitted to it? How many times did they say that they called a ceasefire whilst still bombarding civilians? What about the ridiculous accusation that the rebels are just Al Qaeda on hallucanegenic drugs?

Libyan media has been caught lying time and time again. Why would I believe them over numerous other news sources in the West and elsewhere in the Middle East?

The African mercenary stories were always commenced with the words "reportedly". They were never stated as fact. And the truth is that Gadaffi does use mercenaries. He has hundreds of men from Chad in his army. Also, past history bears it out. Look up "Islamic Legion".
At the beggining of the protests it was illegal for foriegn media to enter libya. So aljazeera and the other news sources relied on libyan protesters on the ground for first hand accounts of what was happening, people who have stong motives for exagerating and using propoganda to garner support for thier cause. you cant really blame the protestors for doing this but the media repeatedly reported unproven stories as fact. litterally brodcasting the protestors propoganda to the world. And later when their earlier assertions were disporven the western media never bothered to fix their errors. thus many people still belive in all those BS stories thier heard in the begiining. Media that does that is obviously biased.
Anyway the libyan state media is not very reliable either but the arab leauge seems to belive their casualty reports.

The West is not killing masses of Libyan civilians.
The first night, 110 missiles were launched. This was an absolute necessity to take out Gadaffi's anti-aircraft missile sites and command centres.
Last night, only 11 missiles were launched. Again at non-civilian targets. The strike against his palace was also to take out a personal command centre. Or do you think that he travels across Tripoli to give orders? grin

You can bet that tonight, even less will be launched as the No-Fly zone has been established.

Figures for civillian casualties have been supplied by the Libyan regime. In all wars where the enemy is trying to use propaganda, they overstate their casualties to garner support.
The real truth is that the Gaddafi regime has probably killed hundreds of times more civilians than any Western airstrikes.
Of course in your mind the western media would NEVER misinform you your feed you propaganda. They are too goood for that right? remember the african mercenaries they were talking about earlier? propoganda. and the WMD is iraq? propoganda aswell. of course you convieninetly ignore that stuff and assume everything the west says is ture. and everything the "bad guy" says is false.
