There are two major cancer causing infections that are very common. Hepatitis B Virus infection which causes Liver Cirrhosis and Liver Cancer (both leading cause of death in liver disease) and Human Pappiloma Virus Infection, popularly called HPV infection for short- causing cervical, vulva, vaginal, anus and throat cancers in females AND MALES. Hepatitis B Virus is covered by our immunization program for children in Nigeria but we started late. If you or your child was born before 2004, it is most likely you have not been vaccinated. Even if you have taken the vaccine don't ever assume you or your child have been immunized. Go and confirm in good laboratories. The test you will do is anti-HBs test which tests for the presence for antibodies (natural body soldiers that fight off infections) against Hepatitis B virus surface antigen (anti-HBs). If anti -HBs is there, the person tested is protected. If not, s/he will still need the vaccine except if already infected (treatment needed in this case). Hopefully, I will discuss this later. My focus now is however on the HPV. Public health campaigns have been focusing on pap smear for cervical cancer screening which is good. However, pap smear cannot detect the possibility of having adenicarcinomas (cancers related to glands) and the focus is only on the cervix- of course, these also means focus on females only. While sexually active ladies should go for pap smear cervical cancer screening, we should put more focus on preventing the need for all these expensive tests and treatments in developing countries like Nigeria by ensuring vaccination of children- males and females- before they become sexually active, as well as adults too. Because the virus has many strains that can cause cancers and genital warts, even if you are already infected, research has shown that taking the vaccine reduces the incidence of cancer. If you love your child (and yourself of course) please take up the challenge of getting the vaccine for them (and yourself too). Three doses are required. COST OF VACCINATION It changes so I won't put a figure here because of those who will read this later. What ever the cost is anyway, it is definitely far less than the cost of having a cancer patient in the family, talk less the cost of treating cervical or throat cancer for example. One thing I don't like about health statistics sometimes is when they start talking about percentages (although very high for this infection) and cost effectiveness while dealing with human lives. To the general population these may be less than 100% but to the person or family affected (or protected as the case may be) it is 100%. We are trying to bring this campaign to school PTAs, church groups, companies and other groups. If they are ready to get the vaccine just let me know. If they need a health talk before making the decision let me know too. CONTACT: Reach me via this email: mailboominn@gmail.com. Let the subject be VACCINE and let me know how many are in the group(adults females and males, children females and males) as much as you can. Also include the type of group: PTA, Cooperative Society, Church Women's Forum etc. I am going to continue on cancer-related topics and then on skin care in my coming posts so please follow me to get more and share this too. Let's stamp out cancers. Thanks. * First published on www.boominn..com |

ope2711:Sorry o. But they are not to blame for this? We forget they are not the ones that prepare their salaries and allowances. They should do something about it anyway. |
We need national political transformation. The House of Representatives should be replaced by State Assembly Representatives (a gathering of selected members from all State Assemblies that occurs when necessary, especially at the National Assembly). Why do we waste money and time on creating and passing bills or oversight functions. House of Reps passes a bill, Senate still debate and pass or refuse to pass. I think this is unnecessary. |
ope2711:You should accuse those who prepared their salaries and allowances first. |
ormios234:Almost exactly my addition to a comment earlier on |
ziccoit:I second. And let the House of representative be replaced by State Assembly Representatives (a meeting of selected members from all State Assemblies that occurs when necessary, especially at the National Assembly). Why do we waste money and time on creating and passing bills or oversight functions. House of Reps passes a bill, Senate still debate and pass or refuse to pass. I think this is unnecessary. |
Jonathan:You meant to say, "The answer is obvious." That's how respectable people, people with normal temper reason and respond. There is however more to the story than going to meet the company representatives and wedding ceremony- if you read it properly. |
While Gbenga was preparing for his final year project in the University he stumbled on an idea that he later developed and submitted to a multinational company he believed will need it. They said they will call him back but they didn't. He also forgot about it telling himself to face reality and forget day-dreaming. Gbenga got a job where he was paid 50,000 per month without added benefits. His sweetheart, Titilola encouraged him not to focus on his salary; that she was ready to support him and stay by him no matter the challenges- only that they should get married. After some reluctance he finally agreed and the wedding prep started. To cut the long story short, three days to the wedding, a call came in. It was the company Gbenga submitted the proposal to. He was informed that the company finally agreed to take up investing in the project and that he should come in three days to finalize on it because all the necessary signatories will be in the country briefly that day. Knowing that the said day is the wedding day, if you are in Gbenga's shoes what will you do? |
I was in a men-only social gathering and everyone introduced themselves. A guy was there who graduated as a medical doctor but is not practising. When he finished introducing himself, someone took him up on why he is not practising. It turns out he had realized Medicine was not his passion while in the university but decided to finish first. Now he is into real estate and doing other businesses alongside. The funny thing is that almost all of us in the gathering are not working with our certificates. Well, let's discuss the reasons for career change, the challenges and the prospects. You can ask questions about the prospects and risks of an industry you are thinking of "porting" to so you can obtain guidance before you do. Cheers.. |
DankemzI:Please read the part you emboldened again. Your comment is not "compatible" |
Rick9:Maybe. But I hope those "fresh blood" who share your opinion will prepare not to prefer to stay put in public service when it's their turn to go. English grammar: cold feet; Physics: Inertia |
princejayboss:Ha han. Haba. Is that so? Or are you just still annoyed that GEJ did not win? Moreover, that explanation was not from the president but someone we don't know o. |
SUBMARINE:Change carries its own price too. It must not be taken personal. When APC won, people should have started reading stuffs like "Who Moved My Cheese," and www.emergeng..com where the author proclaimed, "Are you ready for change?"(http://www.emergeng..com/2015/02/pg-3-are-you-ready.html?m=1) |

BUTCHCASSIDY:Not a matter of covering up. What's the point. The issue is, don't generalize; it hurts those who are giving their best. No doubt, their are those who are lazy- and that is everywhere. When it comes to sleeping during night shifts, what matters is to be sure your work will not be affected. (We are not designed to stay awake at night, many researches have even revealed the danger in night shifts on workers' health. Just google it.) What do you think Health workers especially Doctors, have call rooms with bed and sometimes A/C for? Because they will not always be needed. But sleeping in the hospital, no matter how comfortable the room appears, is stress on its own. When you get home, you may still need to sleep to be balanced even if you slept all night. Again, I'm just giving an insider perspective so we can understand. It is not about personal attack. Lets be sensitive to the feelings of others. |
Imanuelle:1. Give us your statistics and an objective method of collection of data, not "observation". 2. Do they sleep when an emergency happens or when it is time to give medications? I've worked in that sector and I can tell you these people are overworked during normal duties and paid stipends compared to colleagues elsewhere. Eg, what a pharmacist assistant get as monthly salary in the US under good working conditions plus other benefits is roughly what a Nigerian pharmacist get paid per annum under poor working conditions. So don't even talk about overtime. |
ECOTERRORS:Are you a mind-reader? Will this practise CHANGE WORKERS' ATITTUDE? Definitely. And that's what every patriotic Nigerians expect. Leave God to judge his motive. |
If that girl died, it is likely murder. B4 electric shock plastic case would av melted & she would av woken up b4 it gets to what d picture shows. If it was an explosion + shock whoever left the power bank in that position it is in d pics is not so smart. An explosn would not leave it in position. If it is not murder it will most likely b photoshop. |
Na wa for photoshop o. Human skin doesn't melt like like plastic and rubber now. |
I made few posts on retail pharmacy to open people's eyes to the opportunities and challenges in it here on NL. That was enough a free service. What I don't understand is that despite reading in my post that you can make millions of Naira in just one day if you get your location (and some other things a consultant should tell you) right, some people tell me my consulting fee is expensive when everything(including recruitement) is not even up to a million. You want to get guidance/ mentorship and expert help to make millions DAILY/WEEKLY/MONTHLY (EVEN IF IT IS JUST YEARLY) for as long as your business exists and you call that kind of info expensive? A one-time payment? Worse is a lack of capacity to negotiate I noticed in these people. Some just cut off communication once they know your consulting fee. It tells me information is not valuable to them and my time is worth nothing to them. I wonder how such people will treat their staff. If you are planning to start a business in a relatively low risk, high yield but secretive area like Pharmacy please put paying for valuable info in your budget. I have read some dangerous info some people give for free on NL like, "You can start a Pharmacy with just 2 million Naira." I wonder what the "start" means because if you are going on a journey, your car will definitely need more than the ignition key to start the journey . Right? Get free info but don't expect the best from there. Well, maybe the book I'm taking time to write on retail pharmacy and retail business will be of help to those people who value info but wont mind getting it cheap. I want to spend less time on consulting/ project management and move on. The book will contain information not available elsewhere, trust me- lessons from the successes and failures of startups and established pharmacies and businesses I have interacted with, assisted and/or observed, both local and international plus practical guides. May be this will protect me from getting those surprising responses. What do you think? (If you like to be notified when the book is ready you can email me on mailboominn@gmail.com.) Thanks |

I have a 50ft by 100ft land with few structures and a foundation on it at Ketu Lagos. The street is a calm one with a tarred road leading to and not far from Ikorodu Road. The owner wants it sold for N16 million without room for negotiation. My concern is that the document available is Registered Conveyance. Someone told me that is what was used before we started using C of O and that it may be more beneficial than C of O to the buyer. Is this true? It got more confusing when Omonile Lawyer used "Deed of Assignment or Conveyance" in one of his posts. This could mean the Registered Conveyance is not equivalent to today's C/O since Deed of Assignment is not. Both Omonile Lawyer and the man that gave me the information are experienced in property matters. Are they talking about the same or different documents? I don't want to mislead my clients o, please help me out here so others can learn. You can send email to mailboominn@gmail.com |
Have you seen this video where a skeleton rode motorcycle on the street? You may laugh when you watch it but it wasn't funny for those people who ran for their dear lives o. Watch the video here: http://boominn..com/2015/05/skeleton-on-motorcycle-prank.html?m=1 |

DANGERS IN WEARING HIGH HEELS AND HOW TO PREVENT IT A review of previous researches which was published in the Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology last year revealed that a chain reaction that travels right from the foot, reaching as far as the spine is triggered by the alteration of the natural relationship of the structures making up the foot and ankle when one puts on high heels. In a more recent research (this year, 2015) conducted in South Korea, researchers found out that frequently using high heels causes imbalance in ankle-muscles complex and makes one prone to injury. The research was carried out among students studying to become airline attendants by researchers from Hanseo University, South Korea. Since these students would be wearing high heels while on duty after graduation, they were required to start using high heels to classes right from their first through the third year. This gave the researchers the opportunity to study the long term effect of frequently wearing high heels. Senior students would have used it more than freshers who have not been using it until then. WHAT RESEARCHERS FOUND 1. Initially, there is increased ankle strength as the ankle tries to adapt to new stress it is being exposed to from the unfamiliar footwear. This was deduced from the second year students having stronger ankles than the first year students(sophomore) 2. Later, the ankle muscles becomes significantly weakened, likewise ankle balance becomes worse The third year students showed significant ankle weakness (as demonstrated through computerized exercise machines) compared to both freshers and second year students. Their ankle balance was also the worst (as demonstrated on Woobly Board). If you like to read about the recommendations to minimize or prevent these side effects, visit BOOMINN using the link provided for the full article(Don't forget to share this before you go). http://boominn..com/2015/06/dangers-in-wearing-high-heels-and.html?m=1 |

I was just going through some researches on telling lies and the following are the results I found about how they may affect those who tell lies- white or black (if there's any such thing): 1. Increased release of stress hormones responsible for increased symptoms like poor sleep, headaches, increased heart rate and blood pressure as well as reduced immunity (body's ability to naturally fight off diseases) 2. Reduced quality of relationships with people that matter to you. This in turn impacts on mental health 3. Using lies in relationships was found to result in more depression and lower self-esteem in the liar 4. Telling 'white' lies was found to actually make people spend more money than they may have planned on people they happened to lie to. Another study showed that apart from spending more money, people who knew they shouldn't lie but lied anyway tend to sacrifice for those they lied to and act to their advantage as if to pay for that episode of lying. 5. Who ever tells lie is vulnerable to being manipulated if the person lied to also knows it was a lie (even when the liar hasn't confessed) One of the researches (by Anita Kelly, see below) discovered that people can be influenced to consciously cut down lying, and that the health benefit of not lying is more significant in this group than those who didn't just want to have to confess they lied more while the research was on. * The studies were conducted at different times under different circumstances by different people- 1. Anita Kelly, professor of psychology at University of Notre Dame, Indiana 2. Sally Theran, PhD, assistant professor of psychology at Wellesley College, Wellesley, Massachusetts 3. Jennifer J. Argo, Cormie Professor of Marketing at School of Business, University of Alberta, Canada What do you think of this? |
