Your should have been more careful with your comment about an African making seemingnly harsh comment about fellow Africans . . . I spotted the the Abracadaba logic. You still don't get the jist, do you? Perhaps you should read the article again. Perhaps much more slowly this time around! |
Politics › Re: Why Mrs. Jonathan Does The Outrageous Things She Does By Ozodi Osuji by PointB: 3:28pm On Jul 12, 2013 |
ow11: He explained her behaviour and attributed it to a reaction to the innate self awareness issues ALL humans have. That is where my agreement with his postulation ends!
He later extrapolated that behaviour to be the natural reaction of an African (went off the rails with IQ tests and agbada) which I do not agree with as even the writer is African and is clearly able to react to his self awareness in a totally different way.
You are trying to rule a line once again when it comes to human behaviour and yes I can pick and choose what part of a text I agree with and what I do not. This is not O level maths where an agreement with the answer to a question implies an agreement to the stated principle.
We can go even further to painfully dissect his speech and say that there clearly exists a stereotypical 'African' way of handling self awareness (that way has been ascribed to Africans but does not include all Africans as Roman emperors showed that same behaviour). We could very well give it another name (Megalomania) and those that react to self awareness by showing said traits can be ascribed as such.
His hurried approach to equate this behaviour to or call it African is where I disagree with him. @bolded, Actually you got it the other way round. The writer started by characterizing Africans before bringing in PJ. In his view Patience Jonathan behave the way she does simply because she is African. I understand clearly you don't subscribe to such uncharitable characterization of Africans, I only wanted to bring it to your attention that if you say the writer is 'spot on' in his analysis and reasons, you indirectly agree with his views of Africans - as such was the foundation of his write-up. |

ow11: Maybe it had two meanings. I can't deny his self-loathing but he was spot-on on her excesses and the reasons behind it.I quite agree with him given her loud mien even when the travails of her predecessor still lingers in recent memory leaves a lot to be desired about her thought process or those around her.
However, extrapolating it to all Africans was too simplistic and downright insulting. We may be ruled by megalomaniacs and buffoons but the regular African is far more decent than the western stereotype which Mr Osuji has bought hook, line and sinker tries to sell. Sounds like double speak to me. Ozodi is basically saying that PJ act the way she does because she is African - that is unmistakeable. If you say that Ozodi is spot on in his analysis of PJ, as a typical African, then you invariable agree that African are as painted by Ozodi. You can't pick and choose. |
Politics › Re: Why Mrs. Jonathan Does The Outrageous Things She Does By Ozodi Osuji by PointB: 2:32pm On Jul 12, 2013 |
ow11: I diasagree with Osuji on some points especially the IQ bits but he gave his message raw and unfiltered (very un African ) and as usual, people with no ability to discount the raised points attack the messenger. Cowardly and Childish! Ultimately, the crux of the article is about the 'inferior Africans', exemplified by the number of times Africans was used in the discourse. PJ was just used as an example, unless you didn't quite understand the writer's point of view. |
Politics › Re: Why Mrs. Jonathan Does The Outrageous Things She Does By Ozodi Osuji by PointB: 2:06pm On Jul 12, 2013 |
Seems to me that the writer has a very low self esteem - which he invariably projects unto others. Hear him: Africans, like five year old children (they are literally dumb since they score lowest on IQ test, scholastic aptitude tests and at schools ) Imagine that coming from an African, and some people are falling head over heel to laud him, simply because he mentioned Patience and Jonathan in the megalomaniac write-up. Shame! |

Do you think Buhari is naïve? Absolutely! He is politically naïve. Yes, he is politically naïve. Absolutely!
Can you be more explicit sir? I would say he should be walking with his eyes wide open because those around him in 1999 were somewhere else. Were they with him? Our people will say if you see a horse (ACN/Tinubu) fully dressed walking alone in the forest, it must have thrown the owner (Atiku, Ribadu) off. Don't ride it because it threw somebody (Atiku, Ribadu) away. I have been wondering; they abused the PDP that we are murderers, party of riggers, a party of whatever - it is evil. Fine! Why do they want murderer governors in their midst? Why do they want us to be there? Number two, this so called APC is again what you call political fraud because you may change the nomenclature - change it ten times over, did the people come from heaven? They are the same old people. You see, to me, I laugh at it more because the entire contraption is a creation of pain and anger. It is not about Nigeria. They are people who failed to make it in their political parties who think by coming together they can make it. Classic knock-out punch! This Lamido man, is really deep (in politics). |

Geomac: You are more intelligent that this PointB. Are you saying it is a big task for GEJ to attend to the two points you raised above? How would I blame you? You get easily carried away by the propaganda machine of the collective children of anger. Here is the President response to the crisis: Home » Featured » Rivers PDP crises regrettable- Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday expressed worries about the recent political developments in Rivers State as he called on all those involved in regrettable acts of political violence to show greater respect for the constitution and the rule of law.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President urged members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and all other political gladiators in the state to put the interests of the state and the nation above their personal egos and ambitions that “seem to have gotten in the way of their expected commitment to uphold the principles of democracy and good governance.”
He called on all those who were remotely or directly involved in heightening political tension in Rivers State to put an immediate end to their actions, which he said, are capable of plunging the state into public disorder.
To this end, he urged them to strive to settle their political differences without further recourse to barbaric acts of violence.
The statement reads: “President Jonathan expects all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, irrespective of their current affiliations or loyalties, to comport themselves with greater restraint while efforts continue to resolve existing differences and restore internal harmony to the state branch of the party.
“The Presidency has also noted with regret the continuing attempts by some individuals and groups to place responsibility for the unpleasant developments in Rivers State on President Jonathan.
“We are constrained to state once again that there is absolutely no factual basis for suggestions that some of the politicians involved in the current dispute are acting at the behest of the President.”
“President Jonathan certainly did not instigate the crisis in the Rivers State House of Assembly and as President of the nation, he will never support any actions that negate his avowed commitment to the rule of law. The President will also never violate his oath of office to always defend the Nigerian Constitution.” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/news-update/rivers-pdp-crises-regrettable-jonathan/But of course, you can never satisfy the world. I bet you know that already! |

Let us clap for Soyinka and Femi Falana. They have spoken plenty grammar, albeit full of contradiction.
In one breath they asked the President to get involved in the situation in Rivers State, in another they asked the President to pay more attention to those murdering our children (in the North.)
Perhaps these men should be clearer - what is more deserving of attention? Boko Haram killing our children (in the North) or River State big men playing hide and seek with a Mace? |

There MUST be deterrence; else this group will reemerge later in near future. |
