Hello guys, I just want to say a word of prayer for our dear country that it shall be well with our land. It is really sad to witness the hardship ongoing in the country. To think that blocked account value has more than doubled in 1 year To all those still seeking a route, It shall end in praise. 7 Likes |

nevilbot: Why would a single young man need a 700Euros 2BD apartment? Priorities bro! And please stop with the taxes already....you do know about filing tax returns right? even as a student, you can file for tax returns every year if you work beyond the regulated amount so you get your money or some part of it back. Going back to Naija with your M.Sc certificate will only get you a moderate paying job at best and that is if you can find it. Truth is if Naija will work and be better, Owo Naija will stay in Naija too because they will tax everyone heavily to get things done. That is the way of the world. If i work and pay my bills and taxes, and then enjoy all the good of the land then by all means i am better off. Easy bro...E no easy anywhere but it is a whole lot better than where we are coming from. 6 Likes 3 Shares |

nevilbot: I just want to leave something here....No one has said that money is easy to come by in Germany as the work is not for the lazy and you actually do the work for the money you make unlike in naija where you can laze around and still get paid but I strongly disagree with you on the fact that what holding on to a 90k job is better than coming here for an education and doing student jobs. I am actually shocked that you that have been here for a while will make that kind of statement (or maybe you are not here yet...not sure). Let me try my hands on some maths here.... 90k per month is less than 250euros at some reasonable exchange rate (Azimo things). That is 3 days work @ 107euros every 12hour shift done. Realities here people....Realities. Ok, so imagine you being here and work only 4 days in a month and make 431Euros. In most places, this takes care of your rent and insurance. Feeding and general aggrandizement is up to you. So double that and work 8days and do the maths. To be fair to everyone, after the a 12hour shift (day or night) you will kaput for another 6 hours sleeping and booting up to functionality which is where planning comes into play so you only take shifts when it suits you. Making upwards of 700euros a month is very very possible and enough time to attend lectures and all. Tell me how you will not be comfortable and even send money home at that rate. Bear in mind that it isn't even what you make during holidays. Again, like i said, this isn't going to be the case in all cities but true for most cities and even smaller regions. Please do not take this to heart but as a pointer to what is very possible out here. I just do not agree and completely disagree with the notion of holding on to a 90k job in Nigeria when you will have to make a whole lot more than that here and also enjoy a much better life and education. P.S: Converting your student status to a full resident is also not for 2 headed people. Yes, people do all sorts to extend their student status when they can't find a job but let us be realistic here, how will most get jobs when they do not even have skills to offer. Getting ahead anywhere takes personal commitments so look ahead and see what works in your area of specialization and get the skills needed and of course the language and then see if you will not get jobs and get your permits. I have personally not heard of the Alien's office demanding that a German be given preference over others for a position...this is a country with very low unemployment rate. This is not Canada and once you graduate with a degree in a school here, you are good to go. Please let us ease off on these scare tactics, I would advice anyone that want to come try things out here to look at all the possibilities and weigh them. If it tilts towards you, please let no one deter you because even they that keep saying "don't leave certainty for uncertainty" have not left the uncertainty and headed back to the supposed certainty. 19 Likes 3 Shares |

I really am all for the the exchange of ideas and advice on this forum as it is the only way anyone serious about this venture can see all the cards and then make decisions based on what works for them. Let me start with the renewal issue: Like you all, I was also worried about it before coming here and for the first couple of months. It was a big deal for us especially as work wasn't even forthcoming (word of advice here: If you want to spare yourself some financial headache, my advice is to come here in the summer. Simple reason is because you most likely would get a job faster than in winter where most businesses are already in slow-motion mode but coming in winter is cool too because there are jobs to be got even on the same day you land if you go look for it so nothing is cast in stone. We are winter peeps and we be balling ). Then we realized something and asked a simple question, have we heard or known anyone that went back to Naija because of money for renewal? Answer is still NO. That means there must be ways to achieve the golden renewal that we just need to learn and learned we have. It will probably be counter-productive to say a few things about that here because some of these details do have peculiarities to regions while most are just a simple word of direction from those on ground. My advice: Plan, Plan and Plan. What do I mean? While selecting cities and schools, try and get info on the place and how affairs are run there. make friends or at least good acquaintances with those already there and get them to tell you what is obtainable. For those coming to Kiel, we will hook you up with the available jobs that can at least feed you till you get your permits, ways that can help you buffer up enough to add to your account for renewal and you will have people who can help lift you across the mark. The truth is it is not a bed of roses. One thing you should have in mind is that you will only get shitty jobs (compared to what you were doing or would do in Naija), get screamed at and feel bad for yourself (almost regretting) and say "na me be dis" and feel so homesick you want to give up and just head back home (it will get worse even) . This will happen no matter what but it is better if you have told yourself the brutal, honest truth before sending in those applications so when you start having those feelings, you tell yourself "it is only for a while, the goal is near". So, renewal is an issue but definitely relatively easy to overcome with the right info and the right group of people. To abandon ship or not: To those that want to run away from naija, I commend your courage and support your decision to seek greener pastures especially via the educational route (as long as you complete it and proceed into professionalism o). The state of the country in naija is disgraceful and one needs to make bold decisions. To this end, I would like to say that if you have any means of generating revenue in naija (houses that can go on rent, buses that can continue plying the roads and bringing in money), please and please do not sell them to accomplish your dream of coming here. Instead, I would advice that you either tarry a bit in naija and save up more till you have enough to come here and then handover those assets to someone you can trust to help manage but ensure all monies are still paid into your account from where you can then transfer for whatever needs to be done or gifted. This way, you are continually in contact with your business and up to date. You never know when the accumulated little cash will come in handy. If you have little or no responsibility and all you have is a bus or marwa or okada and selling it will complete your money to come here, by all means do that because they are depreciating assets anyways and the ROI in coming here is way way more than the cost of selling it. Working while studying: If everyone will tell you the truth, it will be that you will be quite comfortable once you get the hang of jobs around you and you start making some money. you can undertake more than one job depending on your schedule and how you plan your time. So understand that it will be hard for most initially but I promise you that it will get better and even you will not have plenty time to come to the forum to read comments as often as you did before getting here or in your first few weeks because your tune will change from Obiwann's "winter is coming" to "the hustle is real" . Follow your dreams guys... All the best 28 Likes 3 Shares |

mikky4all: By all means go ahead. I actually know a couple of people that are on their second Masters study....... The reasons for this are not too far fetched: They do not want the 18months post-study permit to start counting putting them under pressure to look for a fitting job. so they come up with all sorts of permit extension plans without moving into the 18months stretch. like study permit extension based on search for a phd position (actually met someone that is on the second extension). applying and registering for a new masters program, extend study permit, take just a course so as to free up time to hustle and simultaneously apply for jobs with the first masters degree. The most important thing is to put in your best in your studies and have faith in your God to come through for you when the time comes to move to the next level. All these modes are just High Bp givers. Ciao 5 Likes |

mikky4all: The answer to your question is dependent on the clarity of the word "enrol". 1. If you are thinking about the possibility of gaining admission to another university while still studying in another course, then yes you can do that without issues (I am thinking you probably know this ) 2. The real answer you need is NO! You can not be fully enrolled in another university in Germany while still registered and studying in another. As part of your registration requirements, you would be asked if you are currently in a program in another university (lie here and accept what follows). when you reply in the affirmative, you would be asked to get your dematriculation certificate from your current university before you can be fully enrolled in the new one. You may wonder how they will find out if you do not tell them that you in another university, well you do realise you are not a native of the land and you have all sorts of records everywhere there. Your applications would also be originating from Germany and your insurance and Ausweis will be clear indicators to the fact that you are no JJC. Long story short, you just want to be straight with them period. 1 Like |

lobito007: I have read its content and there really isn't anything to it. It shouldn't scare you because worse is going on in Nigeria and still people are getting jobs daily. Your primary concern is to get the education first, finish with a good grade and then start the search. I haven't been here long but I have already seen three (make that 4 if i include my Indian acquaintance) people that graduated last summer and winter semesters and already have jobs. I was told one was actually posted to Amsterdam to work on a project. The funny part of it is that we were were both struggling with our german in the A1.2 class in January, so I know for a fact that his german isn't good (and he is not a programmer). So my 2 cents is that you take things one step at a time. Finish your studies with a reasonable grade and then start worrying about how to get a job. 6 Likes |

Kings1464: The verification isn't what you think. They will not be checking back with your different institutions to confirm the validity of your documents. That is between you and your God. All they do is check all submitted document and evaluate the applicants in accordance to each school's requirements. When they are done with the evaluation and the applicant's supporting documents and grades are in line with the school's desires, they forward such candidates to the school to give a final look and grant admission or not. Schools employ uni-assist to take away the workload associated with accepting and evaluating applications. This way they just take a look at the evaluation report and make a decision. The best thing you can do for yourself is to make sure all your docs are in order (leaving nothing out) and are properly notarized (sealed and stamped), else you get to wait another 4weeks (not including the time to resend the document) for another evaluation round on your application. Hope this helps... 2 Likes 1 Share |

dprinz99: To the best of my knowledge, as long as you were able to justify the change in institution (which I believe you were able to do) there isn't a thing to worry about. Just a side note here: Are the courses you got from both universities the same or at least related? If yes then all is cool. I ask because if they are 2 different courses then maybe some justification would have aided your cause but still egal..... Modified Let me quickly drop a few beats on Kiel for all and sundry. There are 2 tertiary institutions in Kiel namely Christian Albrechts University and Fachhocschule Kiel (University of Applied Sciences) and both have great quality of education. CAU is the more recognized and highly rated of the 2 (Top 30 in Germany) but it is research based, so if this is your forte then by all means. If you are more practically oriented, IT systems development/business management and co that would grill you in readiness for the professional working life, then FH it is. This of course is based on perspective and of course do a proper research about your course of choice and its course contents especially (There can be serious K-Leg if you do the naija style of following the better named courses as them fit shock you when you enter ). Both schools are linked and so FH students have access to facilities at CAU like the Library, sports center, fitness center.etc. There is also the semester tickets that cover the whole of Kiel (train, ferries, buses). Only difference is that CAU students get a rebate on the direct bus to Hamburg airport (7euros instead of about 15euros and 12euros for the round trip). FH students have to pay the full charge but that is nothing to worry about because the airport is not a frequent trip and there are alternative ways of going on long trips for really cheap prices. Housing is kind of reasonable here though it could easily become a nightmare (as moi experienced). The studentenwerk handle student accommodation for both schools and there are cheap to mid-priced rooms available (availability is higher in the summer as there are less applicants and intakes in both universities). Early application is usually the best thing to do but there are also other options that would suffice till one finds right footing. Working as a student here is just like any city in Germany, available but conditional . Ability to speak the language even if it is the pidgin version (like Williamso would call his) would make things a bit easier. Another thing is that everyone needs to realize that you have to bear your cross and so do your own research, ask questions and talk to people about what you need. For example, when we got to Kiel, we were played all the work stuffs and what we needed to do to start engaging (mostly meant that we would wait a few months). The funny thing is that when men started digging, stuffs that even those we met here didn't know about were available and now they kind of say we came and raised the ginger level. Hustle is usually at its peak in the summer months (In Kiel, the Kieler Woche is it for men ooo, we die well ) Yes, you have to worry about your next renewal as Kiel only gives a year's permit but still egal as you will learn....... (open ended tins) Abeg bring your food oo,as much as you can carry so you get to ease yourself into the bread/potatoes eating mentality here and of course save yourself some cents by eating in. There are afro-asian stores here so noodles, titus, kote, croaker fishes are available. same with palm oil, plantain, yams et al. Me no get power for babes matter o but if that is a condition then I have one for you......start working on your 6packs and throw a few sentences of Deutsch into the mix and you are set (a few good dance steps may help too as men dey hangout for nice domes steady). There is a strong Nigerian community here starting with the Nigerian Students' Association to the Nigerians in Kiel Association (them dey host very bad party every December), so you are sure to get all the help you need right from naija. Cheers to everyone.... Willy and Aibee can add to this sha 15 Likes 1 Share |
