Correctgist:
A conflict between students of the Federal Polytechnic Bida and Indigenes of Bida culminated in the death of multiple people while several were injured and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. According to reports, the clash was started by a conflict between a commercial river and students of Bida poly who boarded his vehicle and it soon escalated to become a communal clash. The students reportedly boarded a commercial bus from Minna to Bida on Saturday and agreed with the driver to take them straight to the campus.

But when they got to Bida, the driver took them to the park and ended the journey, informing them that that is normally the final bus stop. The students, who had paid to be taken to the campus, went to the garage officials to lay their complaints but they were ignored. The students returned to the garage on Sunday with some of the Students Union officials to lay their complaints but they were beaten up by some boys in the garage.
The students then returned to the campus, mobilized themselves and went back to Esso Motor Park in Bida to fight. Multiple students were killed in the clash. A lecturer of Bida Polytechnic was also killed according to reports. A driver believed to be an indigene was also killed and this led to a full-blown communal clash between indigenes and students. Efforts by the vigilante and the police to quell the crisis proved abortive. During the clash which lasted for hours, some shops were said to have been destroyed and vehicles had their windscreens smashed. A motorcycle was also burnt to ashes.

More below:

This is very bad,but the students didn't gave a good thought, how can you go into the town to fight the indegines especially in bida considering the distance from the school to town?.

AllTheWayUp:
Fear Of Disintegration and Defections As APC Adopts Decision Of Governors And Senators On Indirect Primaries Against Tinubu and Oshiomole's Opinion

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted indirect primary for all elective positions apart from the presidential election.

The decision was taken at the 6th national executive committee (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja on Thursday.

Simon Lalong, governor of Plateau state, told reporters that states may consider direct primary when the need rises.

WHAT IS INDIRECT PRIMARY?

Indirect primary election is when delegates choose the party’s candidate as against when interested members of the party vote for a candidate.
The issue of the primary had left stakeholders of the party divided, with some federal lawmakers threatening to pull out of the ruling party if it adopts direct primary.

Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the APC, had hinted that a decision would be taken on direct or indirect primary at the NEC meeting.

He gave the hint after a caucus meeting of the party at the presidential villa on Tuesday.

“By Thursday (today) we will go to NEC where the formal decisions will be ratified and once they are ratified there will be no problem; they are not being kept (secret) because every member of the party and indeed Nigerians are entitled to know how we agreed about the exercise.

“But I think everybody has confidence that we will do a very credible primaries to ensure that those who fly the flag of the party have the mandate of their various constituencies.”

More to follow…

https://www.thecable.ng/breaking-apc-adopts-indirect-primary-senatorial-governorship-polls
The direct primaries method is good but a bit too cumbersome n demanding, the indirect method can be modified to checkmate manipulations, I will suggest a system of fix delegates for every level of primaries and only elected party officials n public office holders should be delegates completely excluding appointed officials e.g for gubernatorial primaries the following persons should be delegates; All elected public officials who are members of the party, all exco members of the party at local, state n federal levels only, there should not be any so call elected delegates, the exco positions should be fix n uniform nationwide well known to all aspirants in advance, this system can be carefully drawn for all level of the primaries. All the aspirants should have free access to the delegates ahead of the primaries.I belief this may not be perfect but very fair n transparent enough to avoid the common cases of inflated imaginary delegates which most aspirants abhors.

People will say individual awards don't matter in football and I ask, says who? Realistically J. J. is a better player compared to Kanu but awards and trophies Kanu won individually and collectively at the club and country levels has made him one of the most decorated African players and as a result FIFA place Kanu ahead of J. J.

During the World Cup J. J. was in DSTV studios analyzing games while FIFA picked Kanu as a delegate to Russia amongst other legends like Figo, Cafu etc

On the pitch J. J. is obviously better than Kanu but off the pitch Kanu is rated higher by FIFA

you are very correct, JJ made a mistake by sticking with Bolton wanderers when man u wanted him,if he had played for man u then he certainly would have won individual honours such as African player of the year n lots more that would have made him bigger that KANU, in life one simple thoughtless decision can cost one dearly but this is not taking anything away from KANU n what he was able to achieve.

Politics / Re: Presidency Speaks On Buhari Using Recovered Loot To Fund Re-election by positivethought: 9:28pm On Aug 26, 2018
[quote author=stane007 post=70632975]The Presidency has reacted to reports of President Buhari, reportedly using recovered loots to fund his re-election, while also using the anti-graft agencies to muzzle his political opponents.

Special Assistant to the President on Justice Sector Reform, Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, who spoke on behalf of the Presidency on the recovered loots debunked the rumor, and further stated the President remained focused and would not allow any perception stop him from fighting corruption.

“How will he use the looted funds for his re-election? In this country, it is the Appropriation Act which appropriates what should happen to any money that comes into Nigeria or money generated by revenue agencies; that is very clear.

“You know that, now, we have the Treasury Single Account and any money that goes into the Federation Account cannot come out without what we call obligated money.

“The money would have been obligated possibly by a ministry because it has set a budget for what it wants to do and all those monies that are obligated, you cannot take them out without showing to the government or to the ministry or the permanent secretary where the money is going to.

“Let me say, every effort has been made by this government to ensure that there is a clear procedure through which government activity can be funded and that you cannot just wake up, take money from the TSA and walk away with it.

“The Federal Government just passed an executive council memo where it stated that every money spent by government that is above N5m must be published.

“So, the Accountant-General of the Federation now has an obligation to publish, so what we expect citizens can do within that framework is to begin to identify all those pieces of information and see if any of those funds will go into an election.”

APc are abiding by rotational presidency. If buhari finish it goes tovthe South, any of the Southern regions (read Sw, Se or Ss) can battle for it. After south it goes to the north any of NC, NE or NW can get it. Didnt you hear PDP telling Kwankwaso that they wont zone presidency to the NW where he hail from, they zoned it to all North. In 2023 APC will zone presidency to the South and Vice presidency to the NOrth, anybody from NC, NE or NW can get it. Nobody will zone it to SE alone you have to politic for it.
So if the Igbo's supports APC but the APC ends up loosing the elections in 2019 what would you say of them, well you people can go ahead n support APC if it ends well good if it back fires then you still blame yourselves, by the way y did you avoid the other parts of my comments in your response?

so the APC don't even accept rotational zoning?, besides I remembered that the Igbo's through APGA were trying to forged a collective bargain prior to joining APC before Rochas out of selfish interest jump the gun scampered to join APC ahead of his kinsmen just so as to claim to be a pioneer founder of the party in SE,n it's no wonder that he is now laying claims of first right to the presidency come 2023 when APC will hopefully Ced it to the Igbo's, you condemn your brothers for playing bad politics because they supported PDP n APC won, have you ever seen the northerners behave the way you people do?,so if Igbo's supports APC n per adventure APC lost the elections you will still blame them for playing bad politics?, from the revelations coming out Tinubu n the SW will hardly accepts APC ceding the presidency to the SE in 2019 so take note, buhari has failed, the talk of his invincibility in the north n nationwide is nonsense, it's better for Igbo's to work with a formidable platform n candidate who will accept n guarantees a SE presidency in 2023 to realise their goal else come 2023 you shall be compiling new Lamentations, I'm from the middle belt n I truly wish for an Igbo presidency mind you.

MrJanuzaj:
SOUTH EAST: IS IT NOT TOO LATE?

I have read the recent transmissions by Senator Bukola Saraki directed at my Igbo tribe. I have deliberately kept mum on this as I had earlier resolved to speak less on Igbos as regards the 2019 Elections and 2023 Presidency having said quite a bit.

However seeing as some of my brethren have swallowed the cheap bait, I will chip this in just to keep the reality before us, at least for posterity sake. Truth is bitter but it's still the best medicine.

My people say; 'He who does not remember where the rain started beating him, will not remember where it stopped'.

REWIND TO 2014.
A new National Party was being conceived. Political Parties, political players and Regions were being wooed to the new alliance.

'We' Igbos (read South East) vehemently refused to touch it even with a long pole. We packaged, sold to ourselves and bought the baseless propaganda that it was an Islamic alliance that would birth an "Islamic" and "Hausa" Party. Simply because those our brethren heavily invested in the PDP at the time were afraid of losing their vested selfish interests.
Till today I'm still trying to fathom the basis for that wicked and twisted deceit especially as many of those Igbo elites who sold that dummy have since ported to the same APC.

We failed to even identify with that new Alliance. Hence the Party, APC was birthed without any remarkable input from us or presence. The few amongst us who aligned were called all kinds of names and abused to high heavens by us even when they were proven right afterall.

Thus the few Igbos who were part of it were at best fringe players as they didn't have the required clout to make serious demands and do the necessary political wheeling and dealing required in Politics to strike the hard bargains since politics is all about interests and numbers. They were even suspect, so much so that it was only their personal political sagacity that gave them whatever they got.

That Party went on to win the Presidential Election which in truth, most of us never believed it could or would, because of our half baked permutations and poor understanding of Nigerian politics. But it did.

Curiously we turned up at the fore front of telling this same Party how it should share it's 'spoils of war'. We became hypocritical moral champions with an over bloated sense of entitlement. Who does that, in all political reality and practicality? But we did, even while vehemently and vociferously still refusing to shift our position, style and rhethoric.

We dug in. Supported every bad thing and person against the Party, the elected President and the Administration while denying any and every good done to and for our Region.

Fast forward to where we are today. Almost four years after the 2015 misadventure, we have stayed put at 2015, refusing to move forward, refusing to shift grounds, refusing to play pragmatic politics, telling ourselves the same lies we cooked and bought in 2015 and some more.

Now barely 5 months to another election, we have started again saying "APC cannot give Presidency to Igbos in 2023". "Buhari cannot hand over to an Igbo man because Buhari hates Igbos". "APC is deceiving you", bla bla bla.

Of course. We will believe Saraki, who has only but a fanthom dream of becoming President and whose only known record is selfishness but we can't believe Buhari who's already President and who has a record of voluntarily picking two great Igbo sons as running mates in the past? Chukwu aju.

It is interesting and vital to note here that the PDP which many of us still proudly support and adore was in power for 16 solid years and in those years there were 4 Presidential Inaugurations and on none of those was an Igbo man found worthy by the PDP of even Vice Presidency and we are still bold to say it is the APC that has not even finished one tenure that doesn't want to give power to Igbos. Odi nma.

NOW; Seriously, let's be sincere. As things stand today politically, why would the APC even hand power to us Igbos in 2023?
On what grounds?
On what records?
On what politics?
Is power given to anyone?
Is it an appeasement or a gift?

The APC is a political party. The main focus of a political Party is to hold power and keep it to enable it deliver on its agenda. So if the APC reads that the SE does not want the Presidency or does not have the capacity to help them win and keep power, they will stick with the regions that can and work with individuals who are interested.

Make no mistake, I have always said, I do not blame us Igbos for the decision majority of us took in 2015. It's our right. But continuing to pretend that it was other regions, Buhari or the APC that made us do what we did then or remain where we are today is purely self deceit and I refuse to play that ostrich game.

As far back as 2014, I and many others made that argument that Igbo Presidency was very feasible in 2023, ONLY under under the APC, ONLY IF we did a couple of things right politically. I personally continued to speak loudly on that even after the 2015 elections until when I realized that we were not ready to play the politics that was required and now I dare say it may be too late. Or is it not? Time will tell.

For now, we can continue to tell ourselves that we cannot hold the Presidency of Nigeria. I heard and read many of our brethren go from PDP to Biafra/seccesion (read IPOB) to Referendum to "Igbos do not need Presidency but Restructuring" etc forgetting that all that didn't lie squarely with us alone. We think other regions are not reading our body language?

I really don't care what Saraki writes or says because they've all come to realize that it's very easy to play us like a flute. So like Saraki, like Fani Kayode, like Fayose, like Atiku, even Jonah Jang of all people, they keep playing us.

I've learnt not to bother myself anymore to avoid unnecessary abuse from nonentities . As some of us have said, it's good governance we want, even if only one village will be producing the Presidents. So be it.

Ka Chineke mezie okwu.

(c) Dr Uche Diala
very simple, let the Igbo's ask APC to be categorical n promised the Igbo's the presidency in 2023 n let's see what will be the response!.

Clad in white robes signifying a state of purity, men and women from 165 countries converged on Jamarat to perform the ritual from a three-storey bridge erected to ease congestion after earlier stampedes.

The pilgrims threw seven stones each at a pillar symbolising satan, shouting “Allahu akbar” (“God is greatest”) under the watchful eyes of security forces.

Saudi Arabia deployed more than 130,000 security forces and medics as well as modern technology including surveillance drones to maintain order.

kwankwaso is only saying this for his personal gain, personally I don't see any difference between kwankwaso n buhari in terms of fanaticism, bigotry n the false feeling of self righteousness, the best bet for PDP will be a NE/SE combination for president/VP candidates, hopefully Atiku/peter obi in 2019.

Politics / Re: Doyin Okupe: 'If Atiku Rules For A Day, Nigeria Won’t Recover For 10 Years' by positivethought: 12:34pm On Aug 21, 2018
BuhariM:
Former special assistant to former president Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Doyin Okupe has said it will take Nigeria 10 years to recover if Atiku Abubakar rules for a day.

According to the former presidential aide, the country recovery from a one day rule of the former vice president would be 10 days.

However he stated that Nigeria will make history, if it is ruled by senate president Bukola Saraki. The former presidential aide said this via his twitter handle on Monday evening

The authenticity of this news is in doubt but if at all it is true then it's up to okupe clearly explain how he means but if he fails then it's simply a case of sentiments n severe hatred n jealousy.

Those thinking that saraki will easily be impeach should think deep, all these expository rants by APC senators is just a way of tipping saraki off to be in guard,it's not everyone even in APC that supports the impunity been planned, even the 2/3 of the quorum will be an uphill task for APC.

Let's sample opinions logically without abusing and insulting others.
Who's your choice and why ?
Your simple but intelligent analysis can convince others to reason along with you.

Let's see how analytical nairalanders can get.
I'm for Atiku for the simple readon that the man has been direct n very clear about how he intend to do things,no one has come out with counter economic or political reasons to contradict his views except the baseless generalise accusations of corruption without proofs as if there is any corruption free politician in nigeria.
