Is It Ok For A Christain To Celebrate His Or Her Birthday? by blueAgent(m): 3:32pm On Mar 29, 2021
One topic and subject that has divided Christains, is the issue of one celebrating his or her birthday,

As Christains are we supposed to celebrate our birthdays or is it wrong?
To answer this questions we will examine God's words and Bible examples inorder to better understand God's opinion concerning this topic.

The Bible is silent on the issue of one celebrating his or her birthday, infact there are only 2 instances or examples of birthdays been celebrated in the Bible one was by pharaoh(Genesis 40:20) and the other was by Herod(Matthew 14:6)

When the Bible is silent on an issue it is left for us to use our discretion in making decisions.
Secondly we also need to consider if that issue or subject offends or displeases God in anyway and does it rob God of his glory?.

A good argument for celebration of ones birthday is the case of the institution of Marriage.
While God himself instituted marriage there is no clear example in the Bible that marriages should be celebrated with feast, but we all know that Jesus attended a marriage feast where he turned water into wine, thus we can conclude that marriage feasts are acceptable to God.

In the book of Gensis 21:8 Abraham the Man God called his friend threw a feast when Isaac his son was weaned although not a typical birthday but it was greatly celebrated by Abraham and his family.

In Job3:1-end Job was cursing and lamenting about his day of birth, this normally would have been a day of celebration but Job was bitter becos of the difficulty he found himself but he still recognized the uniqueness of his day of birth and God's sustenance all through his life.

In plsams 90:12 the psalmist requested that God will teach them to number their days, inorder words to acknowledge their age or days on Earth.

There is nothing wrong in one appreciating God for adding one year to their life, if it is wrong than is it better we complain, murmur and curse God on our birthdays?

Celebrating birthdays with feast or not is left for an individual to decide, but weather with feast or not all should be done with humility.

Psalms 6:5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?

Psalms 35:18 I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people.

Psalms 97:12 Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Psalms 71:6 By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee.

In Conclusion.
It is obvious that there is nothing inherently evil in one celebrating his or her birthday, rather it is an opportunity for one to express his gratitude to God for life given and to pray for more of God sustanance for years to come.
In my own personal view that day should be used to reach out to the less privileged and those who are in difficult situations like those in prisons this a way of expressing ones gratitude to God.

Like Paul says in Roman 14:6 anyone can regard any day unto God as special be it your birthday or not but what matters is that in all, all Glory should be given only to God.
Romans 14:6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

Thank You.

© Pagans do celebrate to hail their Gods but God warned His own people never to imitate any of their customs! {Deuteronomy 12:30}

Anybody can celebrate anything but it's obvious that birthday celebration is a pagan custom that has nothing to do with God's people of old and according to God's word, we must imitate their faith and learn how to please their God through their submissive attitude! Jesus Christ warned His followers against adding rules/commandments where none has been given. The Truth of God gave no rules as far as the celebration of birth days implying that the choice is left to individuals to decide whether or not to partake of such celebrations. undecided

You heap curses on yourselves when you adopt the doctrines and traditions of men, claiming you do so in the name of God. God has given no man authority to , in His name, make rules or teach ideas that are not of Him. Both those who teach such doctrines of men, and those who follow them, are cursed with a great curse - the power of God is nullified in their lives as a result of their sin. So, do not give any human that kind of power over God in your life. undecided

God is not against your celebrating your birthdays, why pretend that He is? undecided

I did, hence the reason why I believe it is right to point out that God did not give man any commands as far as such activities are concerned meaning that the choice is left to individuals as to whether to celebrate or not to celebrate .I.e. it is of this World.undecided

Abraham threw a feast for his son when he was weaned.

So on our birthdays we should cry and curse God?

How is birthday celebration pagan?

I mean one celebrating his birthday and not that of a god.

Is there any commandments for one to celebrate marriage with feast?
Re: Is It Ok For A Christain To Celebrate His Or Her Birthday? by MaxInDHouse(m): 10:29am On Mar 30, 2021
The world agreed to work from Monday to Friday, Saturday for parties and Sunday for worship. So since we don't have any say over our employers we reschedule our time for worship in order to meet up with our secular works.
We either worship on Saturdays or Sundays since God's word has rendered the old covenant (which say our worship must be on Saturdays) obsolete.
But as for birthdays we have the choice either to join in the pagan custom or ignore! smiley

Sun-Day is the worship of Sun and the Roman empire conquered the world to set the standard for working day.
All these we know but God's word has nothing to do with marking of days anymore, it was established so that God's people, their slaves and beasts of burden can have a time to rest! Exodus 23:12
So Holy-Day (holiday) as instituted according to God's law has a specific purpose (that people serving God may rest) and since we have time to rest there is no need going back to the old covenant but birthday celebration has nothing absolutely NOTHING to do with God whether in the old or new covenant! smiley
