Glink2018:The former Govornor family were given a waiver by the state government to bury him there. In GRA's for example, the dead is not buried there but he was given a waiver by the state government to bury him at his house. https://www.thecable.ng/seyi-makinde-we-broke-the-law-to-allow-ajimobis-burial-in-gra/amp |

hammermcc:What exactly is your topic? ... your headline says one thing and you want to talk about another? On burial.... is burying the dead in a cemetery African? .. haven't you taken Culture into consideration?... or are you suggesting Africans should adapt Western practices? Since you believe we should be woke and bury our dead in cemeteries then would I be wrong to say you would throw your parents into Nursing Homes when they are no longer productive?... and useless?... just occupying a room in the house which can be better utilized as an Air BNB?... and generate income to pay tax? The love of money is the root of all evil. |

Who da hell gives a shit about the dead? Just cremate the hell outta their rotten carcasses! It's not as if they would notice.. in India and Pakistan they burn the damm rotten bodies! You people should do the same! I have already donated the whole of my body to the NHS when i finally dies at the age of 100 after smoking alota weed and drinking gallons of Jack Daniel's whiskey for years, they can keep my dead body when i die.. |

hammermcc:I’m out almost N1M this year due to this residential burial nonsense. As for taxes, yes. Let the government plug the loopholes and then start taxing N10K per square feet per year for state real estate taxes. The city and local government can add theirs too. |

hammermcc:What happened to other taxes our parents has been paying to the government? We are in the third world countries and we practiced giving our departed aged parents a befitting burial which includes interment of their remains in the house as is the culture of my people or within the compound as deemed essential by family members. Your ideas are great but not practicable in the present state of our nation. |

Why I'm not so keen on new taxes is because already, there's huge distrust of government and its policies. Pension fraud, Grass cutting scandal, Haliburton case, and plenty other instances of theft of the common wealth is rife in our space. For me, new taxes are just more avenue for govt. functionaries to steal from. Lets clean our system first, plug those loopholes before pouring more wine in the cask. hammermcc: |

hammermcc:I love your view about exploring the property tax to generate more revenue. But I have a counter opinion because, the other taxes collected are either embezzled or squandered by our politicians. People really won't have issues complying with such if there are evidences that the other taxes (VAT, PAYE, Toll Gate, WHT, ETF, etc) collected are judiciously used by the government. We all know that such is not the case in Nigeria. Majority of those taxes are largely embezzled by those in power, rather than deploying them to the development of the society at large. I will say this, before exploring a new tax law, kindly do well to properly utilize the ones that were previously explored. |

So you want people to go buy a 6feet piece of land to bury their dead. Such that after a year or two cemetery attendants already swept the remains and sold the land to someone else. As good as your opinion might almost sound, its merely an avenue to make billionaires out of these cemetery guys |

You might be right but some practices in African countries carry huge cultural significance and may not be easy to abolish for example, masquerades can sometimes constitute a nuisance to the society but would it be easy to abolish? Hell no! |
