I appreciate your advice, but just to be clear, I am not “a cook” “ a cook is different from a chef “ I have my pot-folio to back it up. I have a professional culinary certification from red dish chronicles, google them and find how much their current rate Is for the 9months program I did, then you can come back with a better comment. Until then, please do not say what you don’t know.
Lol! I dont need to tell you who I work for to convince you we are in this shit together. Na Nigeria we dey! This you put up may bounce back on you,it would have been better you walk away without doing this Tomorrow you may get that juicy offer that will require recommendation from your previous boss. E dey happen. I was prviledged to have worked with whether na "private chef" you call am who work for expatriates and big names in Nigeria.

Every time you type, I just cant help but ask myself if you even went to school, talk more of having all those degrees you once bragged about here.
The company stated they were offering an accommodation, did they state that they were offering a luxurious accommodation??
It isn't their fault that the employee had high expectations of a paradise in her head!
I mean, what does it take to clean up the place to reasonable standard, especially when its most likely the outgoing staff that even messed it up? Its not like she's doing any renovations or anything and it says a lot that the place even still looks decent after her obvious concerted efforts to make it look bad...
and yes, when a company in Nigeria offers you free accommodation, they're doing you a favor.

stop supporting thrash all in the name of forming woke.
you're embarrassing your last name.

I made conscious effort to make it took bad?? I wish!! You are obviously delusional to think that I‘ll stoop so low as to waste my precious time like that. I worked 4weeks in that place resumed everyday and I did my job, guess what?? they wanted me to continue, while they had already put a new post looking for a new chef. I said that my 1 month prob had to be reviewed before I continue another month, and they terminated the contract and I said good radiance to bad rubbish because God forbid that I subject myself to modern day slavery!! So insult me all you want and make stupid assumptions all you want. But that is your business and not mine. All I know is what is bad is bad!!!!!!

I will never work for anyone in this country again, I already promised myself that. Plus I don’t work with what man said , I only work with the plan God has for my life. I don’t care if this is Nigeria, it is plain crap!! Let’s learn to say things as it is

Sir, nobody is making excuses for the company. Nigeria is not a perfect system and unemployment is still 33.33%. You will never get a perfect company or organisation in an economy with Nigeria's metrics (borrowing cost of 14% and inflation rate at 18.6%.).

She needed the place painted and a few other things fixed. Meaning, the place is not entirely bad as other 6 staff are living in the same staff quarters before her arrival. She could improvise or approach it differently. Lets be realistic, that company has a choice. Unemployment is 33.33%.

She seems to be at war with the company. She is on LinkedIn begging people to help her make the post go viral. Causing all kinds of problems within a month of employment. Do you think people will want her drama going forward?

She can't manage crisis and not a team person. She is demarketing herself.

How much did they pay you?? Begging?? Please!!! I can’t manage crises?? Do know me at all?? Who I have worked with?? Do you ?? Oh well.

Crises manager of the year , continue, let me know when you get the award.

That is good if that is the case. Most people working as a chef are expose to a lot of thing so they dare not talk because no one will guarantee their safety. Knowing this is Nigeria, you just walk away.
Instead of individual you can choose to work in big hotels. That should be better.

At least the firm human resources and personnel management is closed to zero level.

A chef is in charge of food, maybe the CEO prefer to get food contamination because the accommodate cannot be fixed floor , toilets and bedspread issues.

So the former chef ,must have endure too much rubbish and insults, the firm management, will pay the loan, because what goes up must come down too.

Dear Chef, more publication of shaming, untit they call and pay you your money.....

The wicked will never go unpunished.....cheers

This is the exact situation I'm talking about. They ditch opportunitirs for flu sy reasons saying another will come. While those that ditched the shitty conditions move up both in experience and finance. God bless you my brother

Mind you I’m not broke, I can afford my basic needs with or without that job. I am a private chef and an executive sous chef by all standards, i know my worth and I won’t argue it out with anyone, with or without a 9-5, I actually make money. But bring it on if you wish with your silly, bitter comments

They’ve paid me ohhh. Also I wasn’t cooking in the accommodation, I was cooking in the main building. But you’re definitely right about how the previous chefs where treated. According to some of the staff there, when I was leaving they said and I “quote “If you can't work for this man, then no one can and that he keeps changing his chefs, that i was the 4th , if that does not say much about him, I wonder what does

But to be sincere I'll say this lady is really proud and full of herself..You're offered a job with free accommodation and still you keep complaining that the wall is not well painted and the floor is not well fixed.you're there to work and not to show off. Imagine see the foam they even gave her.some don't even have it in their House.. In this life perseverance ,patience and contentment are values that'll take one far in life. I can't remember the last time I slept on a bed.where I work I slept on the floor though tiled..it's not that I'm satisfied with it but I have target and some certain things I want to achieve before I leave..so sometimes one just have to endure some certain things.

Hey sweetie I hope you heal from the trauma your previous employers have cost you to think that is okay to be sleeping on the floor, while you slave for them and make millions for them. This was not my case as I was to prepare 3 meals a day, 6 days a week, including making his Sunday lunch on Saturday, so he has food to Eat on Sunday, while I’m off and in two weeks my employer didn’t want to repeat any meal so I was to change the menu every 2weeks. i made two meals ,continental &african and not once did he not enjoy any meal i made. He had a special diet.

But oh well, who I’m to ask for a proper accommodation, after spending 4yrs at Afe Babalola university, and 9months to train in culinary school, not to mention that it costed millions of naira for my patrons to give me the best they could and yet, you want me to manage No please!! I will never . And it has nothing to do with entilement because i actually applied for the job and i gotit based of my portfolio and the interview. So please, mind what you say

Also i have earned the right to be proud hun, i know my worth

I've been paying atleast 15 person's salaries since five years every month. Running into atleast a million a month

Raked my first ten m over ten years back

Currently managing a ten digits enterprise and engaging atleast 10 workforce in one enterprise while I manage another enterprise with 15 workforce

You're not in my league. When it comes to business setup, management, company running and execution. I'm your god

I've been following your post and retorts to others from Page One.

I don't think you're a nice Boss. Not because of the topic, but, the views you hold about labour as garnered from your posts, are if anything, in my opinion, too inflexible. I am basing my views about your entrepreneurial personality strictly on your comebacks on the topic. You seem to be so emotional with your arguments and it detracts from the points embedded therein.

It's kind of funny because, you, the "boss" now sound like the one 'entitled' and not the 'employee'. A "'take it or leave it" scenario has NEVER augured well for any party in the history of human relations irrespective of the level of negotiation or interaction. I could go on and on but, I'd rather rest my case.

This is to reply all future reponse, i am not afraid of any of you that hide behind your keypads, the company’s name is there go and ask them to say their own side of the story, but nothing will stop me for saying mine and exposing wicked and vindictive employers who think they are doing you a favor by providing free accommodation, Godforbid! Also I was not doing anyone a favor as I was only doing my job.But then there is a thin line between your job , what is obtainable and what isn’t, so please , call me entitled or whatever but I am no man’s slave and I have learnt to never subject myself to to such a mediocre experience again.

Hmmmm. No comments . Madam can you afford rent in VI to start with

Am surprised by needless complaints by the op. From the picture I saw, I didn't see reasons why Op should be complaining bitterly such that I assumed that the house must have been dilapidated.

Secondly, they terminated your contract because being chef you can give them poison or provide unhealthy food as a result of poor job satisfaction.

It's worrying that Nigeria has gotten so bad that we accept just about anything. You, my dear, have the right to "want" what you want without anyone calling you out. You "KNOW" who you are, you know the work, pain, tears, effort, money and whatnot that you've expended in becoming the professional you are. You deserve your day in the sun, your rest and the right to a decent job. Also, others who can survive working under the conditions you described should go ahead; each to his own.

That you were being called out by others for demanding what is right (accommodation was part of the offer so yea, it was your entitlement...for those who don't know, be educated) is totally wrong. It just goes to show you how severely broken in spirit the average Nigerian youth is-willing to take any crumb thrown at him from the largess or so called benevolence of a master who is NOTHING without him.

Kudos to a certain poster with the Asour handle. He was so onpoint about the symbiotic relationship between the employer and the employee. Sadly, this isn't the case in Nigeria.

Don't lose sleep over the issue. You're definitely in a better place.

Apparently there’s some user called Green whatever, who thinks I shouldn’t have called out the company, if you belong to the same school of thought, well good for you, but i will call out a company on their bullshit and the owner too anytime , if they don't meet up to what their contract states, i am nobody's slave, my father is the Vc of an entire university, my mum, an events planner, manages a catering and events company, which she named after me and still i choose to work, just for the experience, so i will not be subjected to trash. And that's on period! I wasn’t sent to one of the best private schools in Nigeria, and the best culinary school in Nigeria only to be employed, based off the fact that I passed the interview, because it wasn’t handed to me, I actually applied just like everyone else and I was given the job. So please miss me with all the bullshit of being entitled. I earned it and I know my rights and sure as hell will never settle for less.

But, the accommodation isn't that bad. When I saw the heading, I thought it was a shanty.

The room just needs a carpet for the ground, new bed sheets for the bed, disinfectant/stain remover for the toilet and bathroom tiles, and then maybe fumigation. It is habitable.

But, that part of walking under the sun to get her boss food is what I don't understand. When did being a Sous chef turn to being a messenger or a delivery person? Nigerian bosses sha. If them never use your life or make you do job descriptions wey no dey offer letter wey them give you, them no go rest.

You listed at least 3 or more things that needed to be done in that space to make it conducive enough right? Well was that supposed to come from my pocket considering that I just got the job there ? Did I make the necessary demands?? Yes I did, did my ex boss do anything about it?? No he didn’t?? The irony of everything was that I didn’t even ask for much, I actually slept in that place, I actually used the bathroom, I’m I supposed to come and wash a bathroom and toilet, that others have been using before i came there? Common now! It’s ridiculous how people think these days. It’s like I said and I’ll continue to say, they should respond to me. I mean the company, because they know, there’s more to what I’m saying

Not to mention walking under the sun as a delivery person?? My mum almost ran mad when I eventually told her, the right people, that actually know these know that the situation I was in was really messed up, but leave all these illiterates that know know anything to keep typing trash
