Is still not too late to learn a trade, you can learn fast and raise a capital to start your business. Time waits for no man, I only went to school just to get a certificate and answer graduate, not because I want to get a non existent job. When I finished secondary school, I took 2years off to hustle and start my business before returning to uni, I was in uni while doing my business and expanding it also, it wasn't a small thing but upon graduation, while my course mates where confused on what to do, I jejely bagged the certificate and returned to my business. No time. |

I love education, school and knowledge and development, but the way it's done here in Nigeria it's not favorable to me.... Here we are running a pressure cooker and we call it University education... . The academic Calendar is not favorable and the theoretical work load is much.... Everyone can't learn at the same pace...dats y u find funny results.. .. And our educational system is too obsolete to confront modern challenges.. So my bro I know how you feel when you cannot explore ur field in an unserious nation in terms of development not academics.... I'm in your shoes too Hello y'all I'm a new naira lander... . Pls show some love to a brother ![]() |

The earlier the younger generation learn that the days of white collar jobs are over the better for you. I am a professional in my field with a good masters degree in my field and they are begging me to come for Ph.d. but I have a hand work. a skill i acquired since my university days. the skill bought my 1st car and not even my profession. Now with the little education you have, you can develop any skill and master such through knowledge 4rm youtube and social media. there are millions of nigerians who eat daily, howmany of us are farming? there are millions of cars in Nigeria, how many have the right skills to manage them? there are millions of building materials out there how many have the skills to do plumbing, tiling, painting, MDS wood works etc? There is abundant sunlight out there, how many have the skills to convert simple light energy to electrical energy there are abundant needs out there how many of us have the sensitivity to recognize and convert them to opportunities? We all look for white collar jobs. Don't tell me no money, that is the excuse this generation gives, but, let me tell you the way out. Go for the knowledge and skill combined with education and in five years your friend will come back and respect you. Africans; Sitting on Gold and Begging for Brass Wake up young People we are smarter. have you ever wondered why it will take a Lebanese to come to Nigeria and establish WAZOBIA Radio and TV in our local language while we go begging to be employed to speak the language we speck every day? Wake up young People and stop spending time watching and talking football and fashion and Davido and whiz kid. spend time to acquire a skill. that is the only way out of poverty. Africans; Sitting on Gold and Begging for Brass |

I told my younger sister this same thing and this is someone that has the flair for doing business. I said assuming the money that was used to send you to private school for 4 years was pulled together and given to you to start a business along the line after you start making money you enrolled in part time in school, don't you think you will be in millions by now? she kept quiet and could not reply me. There are so much emphasis placed on formal education which is good but it's time Nigerians realise going to school doesn't guarantee a bright future but the skills you have which you put to good use |

@ OP don't feel bad. I'll advice you go back and get additional qualification if you can afford it. Like someone rightly said there's a word called "Destiny". Someday you will look back and give God the glory. I did. |

there is a clear difference between both of you, your friend knows how to reason quickly and take advantage of quick opportunities, multitasks when required and never ever dulls himself. while you on the other hand is so relaxed that after school, you will get a job and earn good pay. My brother, this is reality you are experiencing. if you fail to have a plan and be alert for opportunities, it may be too late. you need to first drop your shoulders so that you can raise them later when you are "big" there are opportunities around us everyday, you only need to be attentive, willing and NOT lazy since you have what it takes to be more successful than your friend already, use it bro! You could even learn a new skill or hook up with your friend to teach you the basics of that skill that helped him you can learn how to repair laptops instead, you dont need a science background to replace RAMs and bad hard drives, there are tonnes of books on this online. you are a graduate, you stand a better chance than all those dubious igbo boys if you start offering your newly learnt skill at computer village at a sincere rate. you could even gain the trust of richer clients who may even be able to help you with a job if they know you are a graduate. |

@OP It appear to me that your career vision is getting slightly blurred because of the present hassle you are facing or how could you have compared your university education to those who dropped out of school or those who learned a trade. These are two distinct pathways in life. The duration at which each will yield income differs. The magnitude and frequency of the income will also differ. There is a level that those who learned a trade or dropped out of school will reach and they can never go up anymore because they lacked the necessary exposure, confidence and certificates that will make them acceptable in the next level. Do not allow this your myopic nature deprive your children of their right to be educated in life. I remembered a friend of mine whose colleague stopped at secondary school to learn a trade. Before he even gained admission to the university, they have started making money, some bought land and build houses before he even finished University. Some actually helped him with some money. That was expected because it is quicker to lean a trade and start seeing the income. When He finished University, some of them actually helped him with some token while he was looking for Job. In-fact he stayed for a while with some of them. But my friend, the exposure, confidence, lasting future potentials, enlightenment, caliber of friends and associates, leadership opportunities and the likes that your university education will grant you in one day can overshadow all their labor of many years not just in terms of monetary value. If you indeed passed through the wall of University, How could you underestimate the future power of such education. The guy suddenly got a scholarship, traveled abroad, secured international employment. Within some months of work, He was able to raise what his colleague made for almost all their years of labor ( this is not to discourage people from learning trade or handwork) but each paths are different. Today, where he is; his family set up, his children exposure, the future opportunities, the planning, the house he lives, the position he holds, the caliber of people that wants to be with him, the travel schedules..etc., all reflects the light of his University education. My friend, go and redefine your career vision. Delay is not denial. He that laugh last; laugh best |

OP, based on what you put up there, you said you went to school for the Certificate. Going to University for Certificate is not worth it my brother it doesn't prepare you for the real world. You need to have the right skills (professional skills)beyond the walls of university. |

Truckpusher:That's all @emboldened. Some graduates have this feeling that good white collar jobs is their birth right but it doesn't always work that way. Recently blue collar workers are doing strong things because little is expected of them, so they strive to prove people wrong. |

vilight:You are right dear, Comparison changes nothing but instead could result 2 depression, anxiety, regret and other psychological effects. Our destinies can neva be the same. Eventhough we all might had started d journey of life at the same spot but our destinations differs. But no matter the circumstance, it gon be well. Certificate ain't a guarantee to success. When i see students struggling to get admitted to tertiaries, i always say to myself "i wish dis people could realise dat having certificate is not an assurance to succeeding in life unles one has an Abraham as father or could purchase it." More especially when one had to quit every other business to pursue his/her career. |

Some people think going to school is the all-in-all, but we live in a different time, this is the 21st century peeps where the Internet have leveled the ground for people to succeed, check Seun the owner of nairaland, check Linda Ikeji, check other entrepreneurs who against all odd have been able to achieve and create something out of their lives. What you should realize is that you start learning after graduating from the university, learn a trade, save and start a business, learn a skill, write an ebook, promote a product, innovate ,invent ,these are just general things you can do if you are not lazy and you are determined to make success out of your life. But please this what you should not do, do not find excuses, find ways to do what you want to do because excuses are the nail used in building the house of failure, is either you make excuses or make money, but you can't make both. If you need anything specific you will want to do to make money contact me on what's app or call 07033690298 or shoot me an email on asiwajuflx@gmail.com I will share freely with you some of the business you can start with ridiculously low amount of money but with hardwork and consistency can generate an income that you can live on. Whatsapp or call me on 07033690298 for free tips on how you can make some money for yourself online or offline Remember, no matter the effectiveness of the tips I will be sharing with you, YOU must make it work by persisting and strategizing, checking what works and what doesn't. Just my two cents. Good afternoon y'all |

| Re: Sometimes I Want To Regret Going To School by deeptesting(m): 12:21pm On Sep 09, 2015 |
@OP the only problem i see with you is the fact that you went to school for the wrong reason & also passed through the school without the school passing through you. It is a pity many still have this mind set of yours, go to school get a good grade, graduate then you have a good job. Those who went to school for the right reason & allowed the school to pass through them are found in every nook & cranny creating, innovating and the world is locating them. I am not being judgmental but i am a realist may be you are an idealist, so don't pick offense. I pray a job comes your way soon. Lastly, the value of education is not measured in riches but on human development. |
