The problem is that most students underrate Biochemistry because its not as voluminous as Anatomy( which has 3 areas- Gross anatomy,.most voluminous, then Histopathology and finally Embryology) and Physiology which is also voluminous. Most time because Anatomy has new terminologies ( sounding like Greek to you after reading it the first time with compulsory headache that comes with it on the first day you read it) and is very voluminous, they lay more emphasis on it and physio trying to clam every thing in anatomy and physiology which is not possible, now when the exam is close , they will rush to Biochemistry to just scramble over it without know that the pathways are not a.walkover especially if you don't take special cognisance on the enzymes, so towards the exam they get more confuse than confidence. The truth is that lack of or poor counselling contributes too because if you have a.senior brother or sister in the college especially in senior class, you hardly Gail the exams because they will guide you and tutor you on the relevant things to read and hownto clam better or what each lecture always want or which of the lecturers can set question because not all the questions set by the lecturers are used at times they go to question bank and get questions of years back and use it.

You have a huge point there bruh. I've always known biochemistry to be crazy cos I have a sister studying the course. Believe me, those pathways and names of each enzymes are not something you can just sleep over. I crammed BCH like a madman! And Unizik lecturers never made it easy for us. Some of my mates who thought BCH would be as simple as the zoo102 we borrowed back at 100level had theirselves to blame.

I respect biochemists a lot, that course is crazy!

If you are taking a medical exam on say a disease,and they ask you about its symptoms,possible cure,prevention etc... Is it not what you read in textbooks that you consulted / was recommended you will give out back ,or what are you saying gan seff.

These courses don't test the innovative/ analytic part of your brain.

I will still say it,its all La cram La pour.

What makes it a difficult exam? People will just over-hype some things as if other people didn't go to school. Ask lawyers who went to law school about 'Bar Exams' yet some people still passed it. There's nothing too difficult that dilligence cannot master.

Immediately you get admission into UNN, the first exam you will learn about is 2nd MBBS exam!!! Things have not changed at all over there, I learnt its the same situation at OAU.
But College of Medicine, University of Lagos does not really have such issues as they admit the number of student doctors they know they can take care of and will likely graduate as Doctors after six years.
UNN and OAU admit a large crowd for the above course and use the 2nd MBBS exams to weed the crowd to manageable proportions, so I wonder why admit a large crowd to break many hearts at the end?

just combined pathology incourse and not the final exams,that features -microbiology and parasitology,morbid anatomy,chemical pathology(clinical biochemistry and hematology and immunology- will weigh out every exam done in part two and three put together..

Fact! U''ve said d truth. Once wen I was in school, a dental student and wing mate told me how only 5 of them had passed and d medical faculty had to meet and set a new cut off for them 12 eventually crossed while the others were casualty of their gross dumbness. Most time they are enuf medical students and such favor is not meted on them. While dentistry is a good course it is not among the noble profession. Sgt Ponzi hatet gives no credit to anyone for doing scaling and polishing filing tooth, root canal therapy or pretending to be MBBS.

Medicine is not just about disease. They could ask them immune reconstitution. They could ask them to talk about the intrinsic muscles to the fingers and how it aids u typing the trash u are typing, or lesions in the CNS and how it changes behaviour. These things come with a lot of thinking and analyses, most times ur type can't sail through, medicine is for the smartest. On the flip side these doctors end up being proud, broke and rigid with almost no life. Studying medicine is a sacrifice, which I will be ready to take in my next life.

The result of the second MBBS professional exam of the University of Nigeria was pasted yesterday. Medical students take the exam, seen as the most difficult exam in the world, in their 3rd year.

Attached is the result for the Faculty of Dentistry students... 45 People took the examination, only 10 people had outright pass [passed the three]. For the medicine class, less than half of the class passed also.

How can so many bright students fail these essential medical subjects? Even if with high minimum pass mark.

You do not get into medical school if you are not top in academic performance.

Medicine is the only course I respect in this country. Then except maybe the course I studied also. The stupid dental students should not tell me they wrote the same exams because they surely reduce their cutoff mark, if not they can't even pass. Apart from that most other University students even first class are morons except my course which I would not mention so as not to boost the ego of some of my course mates who are also near morons. Don't mind him, I have been in an engineering exam that is open book exam and 90% still failed. Even the ones that passed many got E. One of our lecturers gave us a test a certain tiime and just walked away without surpevising or even calling anybody to help him. The man tell us ho haa say we no go pass the test.

The failure rate is abit high considering the fact that it is second professional exams. These students have sat and passed first professional MB in the same subjects.
Something migh have happened somewhere because the failure rate cut cross all the three subjects, it couldn't have been a coincidence. That a side the results should have been upgraded, there is nothing wrong in 47s to 50 in a situation like this at Faculty level or even at the Senate.
