Broda don't mind those that are saying that you shouldn't come on, as long as you have passion for your country with your certificate and good connection you can make it big here, you might even be the change we need. This is your country, this is where you belong, if everyone develops US, who is going to develop Nigeria, please come home and lets develop our country together.

Common go and sit down somewhere! Develop which country? Are you nuts? The politicians should develop the country cos they are the only ones enjoying it. They literally own all of us in this zoo. Don’t destroy the young man’s life with bad counsel.

Of course I do, but I'm still asking, I want to get as much information as possible. I'm not trying to offend anyone, I just looking for know what people are feeling.
Pls remain there because in Nigeria if you are not hungry be ready to face the threat of kidnappers, arm robbery, bad roads that causes accidents on daily basis or you may look for job for twenty years couple with politicians who turn the truth up side down to take advantage of you

Ďear Op , It is wrong on several levels to seek advice on your kind of issues on a platform like nairaland. There all kinds of people here. Some don't know their left from right. Some have never been out of their state of birthday not to talk of out of Nigeria. I live in both the UK and Nigeria. Truth be told there is a lot of hardship in Nigeria. The collapse of the currency has made nonsense of people's incomes and the level of unemployment is higher. Most of the unemployed are graduates of our dysfunctional educational and are mostly unemployable. Without real skills and a lack of understanding of how t hings work in the modern workplace, they are disadvantaged from all levels. You can live in Nigeria. Keep a low profile, invest what money you have any of the several low risk ventures while scouring the internet for jobs that require your skill set I your best option. You must have some trusted educated family members you can talk to. The fellows here will confuse you with their infantile and street hunger advice that will be largely a mirror of their lives. People are making good lives here.
We're like minds. God bless you my brother for your candid advice

You could buy land and go into an area of agriculture. It could be animal or food production. Think of the following:
1) You own your land that is yielding income to you.
2)when you want to expand or divest, the land serves as a good collateral for a loan or as leverage in entering a Joint Venture.
3) The lives you'll change through job creation.
However, you could just buy some altcoins and chill while your money increases. I suggest you do both. I can also help with both of em.

I know there's no place like home but when home isn't inhabitable you can find someplace else and call it home. Everyday thousands of people come into this country from all over the world to call this place home.
My job took me to Nigeria where I lived for two years before coming back to the US. Nigeria may not be as bad as western Media paints it to be, however it isn't a country I'd advise anybody to live in. Every part of the country is relatively messed up, morally bankrupt and irredeemably backward, with retrograded mindset set of people from a radicalized north to an extremely Christianized south. Corruption thrives in the Nigerian oxygen, every Nigerian seems to breathe it in without even knowing - thank goodness i didn't catch the bug... The system is broken beyond repair. Think about ur kids and how unfavorable the system would be to them. I have never seen a government so apathetic and nonchalant to the plight of her people. The life expectancy of the average Nigerian is very low compared to other western countries that's because people die from treatable illnesses due to a failed health care system, majority do not have access to good health care...
your savings in your 401k may allow you get a nice apartment in a middle-class area but remember that, that isn't the real Nigeria, the real Nigeria is outside your home, the society you interacts with, the deplorable roads you drive on when you go see a friend or relative that lives on the other side of town, the corrupt judicial system where the word justice is nothing but a farce, the society your kids interacts with - i could go on and on - unless you wanna live in a gated neighborhood with zero interaction with the outside world then discard this advise. If you are looking for more money investing in the country is a good idea but living in it is not. you can invest from here, you don't have to relocate.
Think it through thoroughly sleep on it over and over again to avoid taking a decision you will regret for the rest of your life.

@BluFlyBoy

do not take this advice for granted

I plan on coming back with about 30000 USD and getting myself land/property to my name, complete NYSC, see what the job market is like as well as concurrently starting a one or two provisions stores. Slowly expand on that, with the end goal to become a distributor at the national level.

I wish you all the best. Don't mind the negative comments they are given you, those people are lazy youths.

Greetings my fellow Nigerians. I'm facing the prospect of coming back to Nigeria after 8 years in the USA. I finished my post-graduate degree and I'm coming back with a Bsc, MBA and 2 years of work experience in the telecoms industry. I want to know from my people back home, how is the general national feeling, how they enjoy their lifestyle/quality of life and the hard-truths of what I'll be facing coming back as I've been so far removed from the national consciousness because I've been in the USA for almost a decade. I feel passion about my country and people but I need to know what too expect. So my people are you happy with life back home?

There is no light

You will even pay for the electricity you did not use

Police and SARS will harras u, dey will even collect ur fone

If u don't av a car yet, u will av to be entering old buses

The Fulani's headsmen are still killing people o

Boko haram has not technically ended

High rate of unemployment is on the increase every 2months

Hello @BluFlyBoy.. with 8 years legally resident in the US through a resident University program, you should have your Green Card by the 6th year.

With $30,000 dollars here is my advice
1: Use $10k to buy up a fairly good restaurant outside city limits.. i don't know which city you operate from
2: Use $3k for a Certified course in Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Hospitality Management
3: Use 2% of the remaining money on either Crypto-currency and put the rest in dollar-denominated Bonds

$30,000 in Nigeria is chicken-change.. this dreadful economy will swallow it up like eba with okro soup. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY YOUR VILLAGE PEOPLE or GREEDY Relatives

Just last year my ex-landlady who has been in london for over 25 years came to naija for a wedding ceremony, she died as a result of motor accident caused by bad road. A friend junior brother who has lived in Qatar for 8 years also suffered the same fate along Lagos-ibadan expressway.
Anyway, i will not advise you not to come but know that you are taking a risk.
