Mustard:
Hi guys!

Quick questions
1) Can someone get work permit easier than PR? And does it involve skill assessment?
2) After getting PR based on an occupation, can someone change career path after landing in AU?

1) i wouldn't say work visas are easier than goin for PR direct, rather I think it's harder except you have an exceptionally required skill demanded for filling certain positions in the country. Getting employment is the first hurdle which will carry your nomination/sponsorship.

2) the way I understand it, u can get assessed as an engineer and enter the country with same occupation, then end up practicing as a dentist grin. Nobody will hold you. It's the discretion of the employer that matters in gaining employment.

Please I need clarification on the 20 points for English test.
For example if an applicant has LSRW 89,87,80,76 in PTE (cumulative score is 83), can the person claim 20 points or must each band be 79 and above to claim 20 points?
Re: DIY Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa - Part 2 by Aub430: 10:36pm On Aug 11, 2018
Sadly average score do not apply. You need a minimum of 79 in each section to claim 20 points.

Dear All,

I need some guidance. I started at page 0. I think I am eligible for a Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) (Points-tested) stream. I have checked the Combined current list of eligible skilled occupations and I see that Barristers are placed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List. I have been practicing as a Barrister in Nigeria for five years.

Query:
I understand that the next stage is to get skills assessment. How do I go about this? I note that for lawyers, there are about six assessment boards in Australia for each region. Do I have to be assessed by each of them? Please someone put me through. Thanks.

I actually don't know what tier it is classified as but I also graduated there and I think I understand your curiosity. I can say if you studied a 5yr course you are very good to go. Although some courses with 4yr still get their assessment. It all depends on what occupation you want to assess.

Your class of degree is of no consequence, but your experience in the occupation will give you an edge. Start with your English language tests, then assessment of your degree with Engineers Australia. Proceed from there. Your best bet is the permanent residency route

You have a shot at the skilled migration program with your area of discipline. You are eligible to apply for either of 189, 190, or 489 visas depending on the amount of point you can muster from Age, English test, employment/experience, degree certificate/ qualifications. Please visit the first page of this thread to understand how the point and calculations work. When you have an idea of the total points you can attain, then directions will be easier.

Pls, I want to confirm if DIBP do physical inspection to companies in Nigeria.
And what are the steps they take to verify your employment in Nigeria?
How do you cover things up if you don't want your big boss to know you are planning to leave?

We have heard a case where in DIBP arranged for a physical inspection to an applicants place of work. So it can't be ruled out if they are suspecting foul play.

But some of their major steps in verifying employment is by official email, looking up your company website or profile on popular professional websites. I believe calling the official company telephone line might also be.

Maybe calling the number of the company HR, or your direct manager depending on the sort of document you submitted.

Personally, I want to believe your company not having a website or not being visible on world wide Web is what instigates them to dig further in most cases. And if digging is persistent you might not be able to avoid the ish getting to the knowledge of your "big boss"

Can someone please help clarify what this section of the ACS guideline means:

Thesis or Research Project Abstract
When the qualification includes a thesis or research project, an abstract of the thesis or research project is required. The abstract should be endorsed by the primary supervisor where possible. The name of the University and the date of the thesis publication or project completion should appear on the front page of the abstract.

I intend to submit my profile to ACS for assessment soon. I have a BSc in Computer Engineering. The only project I did was in my final year. Do I have to submit an abstract of this

The ACS guideline is available here:

This is probably for PHD ppl or something.
Don't know of anyone who has had to submit such and we Acs ppl are plenty here.
Just submit your degree certificate and transcript + any certifications you want to include. That will do for
Assessing your education.

What do you mean by "claimed"?
Also I have the same issue as a mechanical engineer. Which region is best?
For 190, I applied for Queensland.

Thinking of Northern Territory

You are the one limiting yourself. Victoria, Queensland, ACT and Tasmania sponsor the occupation. Why did you restrict yourself to one state?

Bro just be patient. Just 2 months and you are already tired of waiting? People do wait for 6 to 8 months.

They will surely invite you. You just need to wait. 2months is not quite too a long wait yet.

You can as well apply to all the other states that sponsor your occupation. Once you get invited by any of the state, you withdraw the others.
