My own advice is give him a chance.forget all the negative reports on Nigerians. Even Christ was born in small town called Narazeth. And there is saying that can any good thing come out of Nazareth come and see. Forget the programming. And read a book by Anthony de mello "a call to love".thank me later

let me add this maybe the OP would see it.

I dated a white girl online some years back ,though I wasn't after her money even as I was still job hunting then. but I just see it as fun at first......

damn , I tell you white girls love with all their heart, she deos most of the phone calls then .

she find it add to trust me at first but later she discovered that I don't care about her money and she talk to almost every member of my family anytime she calls.

but we later just went on as just friend due to religious differences.

Not every Nigerian is an online scammer

note the following each time you both having conversation...

1) what he desire most
2) his ambition , yes his he a career person or religious goer .
2) always ask him in a loving tone to give you his movement details throughout the day ....I bet you he will gladly tell you if hes in love
3) chat him or call him in the afternoon to know what he was doing , calling is preferable to pick some background noise and activities.

this will enable you to know his activities routinely , if he's the ambitious type within 2 weeks you will know.

Ambitious or religious guys don't really have time much for scamm.
he might be the good guy.

Dont mind trolls here, they wish they were the guy just try them and replace him with them and see how they will send thousands of message to you promising you everything on earth. anyway in Nigeria, for those living for society instead of themselves, the differences in age between a lady and a man can be a hindrance for marriage if that is your goal, except he is an open-minded guy, and dont care about what society says,

the reality is this, if he is 23 years, he is young, energetic, in university, still depending on his parent for school fees and other stuff, surely still leaving with his parent, that is just my portrait of him. most of the guys in Nigeria within that age arent ready for marriage but maybe relationship, in my opinion his age might be someone who might be the "i wanna go to america and hustle freak". most them in that age bracket in Nigeria, have nothing to lose.

but if he is open-minded, matured in thinking, hardworking, thinks well and thinks for 2 of you (we), then maybe he might be a potential guy but when you start hearing, how he is broke and needs your money to free him from his financial bondage and wants to come to america because Nigeria is hard. cut contact.

do not invest emotions yet, but for you to come here and ask, it seems you like the guy. but nevertheless watch and see, age is not a barrier for a open minded and matured young guy and someone that genuinely loves you. as i can say time will tell.

There's a level of desperation in Nigeria. Unlike "wester" nations who's lowest earning citizens get benefits, bailouts, some cheque or whatever from the government, in Nigeria we get nothing.
One can get hit by a car and die. No free ambulance or medicals. People die I'm emergency wards also 'cos they have no cash to pay. We don't have such rights. Occasionally someone might be helped by the government. But it's not a constitutional thing that people can claim rights to. So many averagely suffer.

For those who have it going well for them, there isn't much of a set formula for their success. Sometimes it's just random luck, family connections, affiliation with the "right" people.

Your dude might just be frustrated with the unpredictability of Nigeria and decide to take his chance on anything outside Nigeria.

This is very interesting. Though lowest paid citizens get benefits do you know how much is taken out of their check for those benefits?? Which is why a lot of lower payed citizens opt to not have insurance. And though there is a law now that tries to ensure everyone has insurance ...if one opts to not to they are fined at the end of the year.

Though there are assistance programs...being poor doesn’t necessarily mean you qualify for them. Look up provety rates here. It is not all rainbows and unicorns as people may think. And even most assistance programs set you up for failure and that’s why most use a term here called “cycle of proverty.”

The healthcare here isn’t great if you don’t have insurance. People with no insurance DO NOT get free ambulance rides or free treatment. They receive the treatment but are left with INSANE medical bills which in returns ruins your credit score and everything one obtains here is based off of a credit. And people here with no insurance are treated unfairly as well.

AND when someone marries an American citizen the Americans income must be able to sustain them until the other person finds employment so they won’t utilize government programs.

Anyway. I could go on and on. I just don’t want people to be fooled. The “American Dream” is a lie.

Now I will say...it’s much easier to find success if you work hard as success is not limited to a certain group or family or connections and the average person can “make it” in America with or without a degree as a lot of good paying jobs can be obtained by earning “trade.”

Lol anyway...just wanted to put that out there. BUT I’m one American out of many and my viewpoint definitely doesn’t represent America as a whole.

I personally wish to live in Canada cheesy wink

Thanks for your response

Just follow your heart Nigerians are known as scammers around the world but that doesn't mean we are all scammers

same goes for Jamaica
Jamaican's are known for smoking weed and I strongly believe every not all Jamaicans smoke

same goes for the white people in American
they are not all racist

The media enjoys showing or telling the rest of the world that all Nigerians are bad and dubious
Nigerians are nice

If it feels right give him changes, if it doesn't feel right let him go

TRUST ME...I’ve been on this site a while reading things and I’ve seen how some people can be straight up rude and some completely supportive. I came here because there is a culture difference and I wanted advice from perhaps people who are dating or have dated a Foreigner.

There is SO much to this but honestly the only difference in dating someone from another country and someone from another state in my country is the Visa process. A man here could use me just as much as a man there.

And for those asking...I’m 31 and I’m black.

Again I definitely appreciate the positive responses I’m receiving and even the negative lol!! I don’t want anyone to feel I’m judging the people of Nigeria because I’m not. If anything meeting him has exposed me to a culture I would have never thought to learn about and I’m enjoying that...but I also don’t want to be an idiot and waste my time.

Fe2018, you are right to be paranoid. We know it too that we don't have a good reputation globally but believe me, many people on here, an average Nigerian has a great heart. Your boyfriend may or may not be a scam. If you're 7 years older like you said, he may not be ready for anything serious yet but may have you in mind for the long term project. For him not to ask you for money or any material thing, he has dignity and integrity. Just take things easy and be watchful.
We're not all scammers, it's the few rotten eggs that contaminate the rest. Good luck to you sister.

Now that I have your attention lol. I knooooow you all are probably slammed with these questions all the time but I thought I’d give it a shot.

I’m from America and I met this guy...he’s Nigerian of course...completely random...on a dating site (a complete random Christian dating site at that). Initially I didn’t realize where he was from until he asked if we could talk via Facebook. SO I was like of course...he gave me his name and though it was a common Nigerian name (I learned this AFTER getting to know him) I still didn’t realize he lived in Nigerian until I asked him where he was from and...bam! He’s in a whole other country.

So here I’ve been getting to know this guy...I’m really into him and he’s in another country. Of course as soon as I google international dating regarding someone in Nigerian NOTHING but red flags pop up (which is so unfair that an entire country has such a bad name when it comes to dating internationally) BUT I am 7 years older than him, he is still in college and it makes me wonder...could this be a scam? Is he going to eventually ask me for something?

My question is how in the world do you really know? Is there anyone currently dating internationally I can connect with? It would just be nice to have someone who can relate to my situation and also some insight on what to look for if one thought they were being scammed. All I’ve seen is they ask for money, they won’t talk to you on the phone or video chat and they use fake identies BUT that’s literally not the case as he doesn’t ask for money and we talk on the phone as video chat frequently. THE only odd thing he did was tell me he loved me VERY fast because he “wanted to make his intentions known” (that’s when I began my googling and found this site).

He isn't dating you for your money, he is doing it for the green card. He invites you to Nigeria to get married to him, you work with the immigration so you can get your husband over. When he finally sets his feet on the American soil, he stays married for a while probably 3-4 years, boom a divorce or he disappears. Well, I'm 31, if you looking for someone of the same age.

Another scenario, like it stated above perhaps he trying to use to pull his internet scheme, get money, package, a cheque from someone putting you at risk.

If I may ask, what dating site did you guys meet?
how do you know the op works with the immigration ?

I get it...but America or any other country doesn’t guarantee anyone instant success. I think that’s what people who choose to use people for a green card don’t understand. When he and I discuss how much things cost here he’s always shocked.

America does not necessarily equal greener pastures as to succeed you must work really really hard and I think that goes for WHEREVER you are.

That's why it pays to put in same effort in a foreign country than Nigeria. Guess our government is still playing cheese with minimum wage for civil servants at less than $70 per month. Isn't that laughable to you. Let me tell you the real fact . If we Nigerians could hustle and put same effort we use in working in Nigeria to work in a foreign country, We suddenly become millionaires here. The economy favors only the rich to get more richer and left the average families to wallow in poverty. So, The choice lies with you sister.
