It looks like a betrayal. But in the actual sense, it is not.

Its never a betrayal because Maggie is over with Tony, beside she has another guy.

My advice is for Lara to inform Maggie ASAP, so she didn't see both of them together or hear from someone else, just to keep the friendship going.
Re: Love Is A Dangerous Game by LoveToRead: 5:50am On Mar 29, 2019
Then, she shrugged it off. Maggie had moved on with her life, and she - Lara - had her own life to live. But she would have to tell Maggie about
Tony. Sooner or later, she would know. Lara felt the earlier she knew, the better. She decided she would tell her that night.

It was almost nine-thirty when Maggie came in and she did in company of Yinka.

'Hello, Lara. How's the weekend?' he asked.

'Fine. How's yours?'

'You can see that his weekend is blissful,' Maggie interjected.

Lara smiled. She would felt jealous the way Maggie and Yinka were holding each other, but when she thought of Tony, she shrugged it off. She
had a handsome and comfortable man in her life now, so need to be envious again.

The two love-birds soon went to Maggie's room. That was where Yinka passed the night, so telling Maggie about Tony had to be on hold.

The following morning, as usual, Maggie woke up early to get dressed for work. The love must really be 'shacking' them as they even had their bath together.

They left for office together by seven and there was no way Lara could tell her what she had on her mind. Okay, by evening, she would tell her.

That was not to be as Maggie called to inform that rescheduled Port Harcourt workshop would hold the following day and she would be taking a flight to Port Harcourt that evening.

Maggie spent two days out of Lagos. Unlike before, Lara hardly missed her. Tony came around those two evenings to keep her company. The
first evening he came, he and Lola chatted until almost ten thirty in the night.

'It's getting late,' she had said. 'I think it's time you go home.'

Tony nodded and without an argument bade her goodnight.

'It has been so refreshing chatting with you,' he said. 'Good night, darling.'

'Good night, dear.'

The following day, he was at her office by few minutes after three o'clock.

'I've come to take you home,' he declared.

Lara was delighted. 'Oh, that's so thoughtful of you.'

When he got to her residence, he did not get down from the car.

'I'll wait for you here while you go up to pick the clothes you'll wear tomorrow, and take some other personal effects that you'll need. I'll take you
to my home.'

'I can't sleep there overnight,' she pointed out. 'Have you forgotten our agreement?'

He grinned. 'No, I've not. Our agreement remains. But it doesn't stop you from coming to my place.'

She seemed to briefly think over this. 'Alright. Give me a minute.'

Tony waited in the car. A couple of minutes later, she was back with a valise. So, she got to know his home. She was impressed with the
furnishing and other household items.

'This is my humble home,' he said.

'It's a nice place,' she enthused.

He showed her the kitchen and the store. Lara decided to cook boiled yams and fried eggs. They ate the meal from the same plates. After the
meal, they chatted until late in the night. She soon started dozing on the sofa.

'Let me take you to the bedroom,' he said.

She yawned, stood up and followed him. The large bedroom with the king-size bed was as comfortable as any good bedroom could be. She
changed to a nightwear she had brought along and lay on the bed. He changed to pajamas and joined her. It was his first litmus test and Lara
was eager about the outcome.

She yawned, stood up and followed him. The large bedroom with the king-size bed was as comfortable as any good bedroom could be. She changed to a nightwear she had brought along and lay on the bed. He changed to pajamas and joined her. It was his first litmus test and Lara was eager about the outcome.

He knew too that it was time to know if he was a man of his words or not. Tony grinned as he watched the backside of his partner. She had even turned her back to him! He grinned as he switched of the main light, leaving the dim bedside light. He had decided he would keep to his words and nothing would stop that.

Awele occupied the flat opposite the one occupied by Maggie and Lara. She was a forty-three year old divorcee and mother of a sixteen years old girl. She and Maggie often chatted, and the latter had informed her that she would be traveling to Port Harcourt the day Maggie traveled.
Awele also knew that Tony was Maggie's boyfriend as she had seen the two of them together when things were still rosy between them. Awele was there astounded when she saw Tony visiting Lara in the house and staying till late night. She called the attention of Dorcas, her daughter.

'You see why I always tell you that men are useless? That man with Maggie's flat mate is Maggie's boyfriend. Maggie has traveled out of Lagos and the shameless man is sleeping with his girlfriend’s best friend. How shameful!'

'The man is in there?'

'Yes, he is. I'm sure he has been there for the whole time that his girlfriend is away.'

'But how could you tell that he was sleeping with her?' Dorcas asked.

Her mother looked at her curiously. 'No, he was not sleeping with. It was church vigil they were having there.' Her tone was ironic and caustic.

'You don't anything, yet. Many men are like that. They're so useless, just like your father who can sleep with anything in skirt!'

Dorcas didn't like such acrimonious reference to her father, but her mother was always saying things like that.

'Useless', Madam Awele spewed out. 'Men are useless.'

Later, she was glad when she saw Margaret return from her trip. She gave her some minutes to relax and went on to knock at Maggie's door.

'Ah, you're welcome from Port Harcourt, Maggie. Hope you bring good things from me.'

Maggie smiled. 'Madam Awele, good day.'

'Thank you. How was your trip?'

'Fine. The workshop was revealing.'

Awele nodded. 'That's good. Ah, there was something I observed when you were away.'

Maggie became curious. 'What's that?'

Awele paused as if she was trying to ensure that nobody else was hearing her. 'It's about that your boyfriend. What an unfaithful man he is.'

Maggie's mind first went to Yinka. Was Madam Awele talking about Yinka? 'What happened? What d'you mean, he was unfaithful?'

Again, Awele's eyes briefly looked around. 'He's dating your flat mate. He was here in the night of the first day you traveled.'

Maggie relaxed a bit. 'That must be Tony, right? Is he the one you knew for some months now?'

'Of course! I'll recognize him anywhere.'

Maggie smiled wanly. 'Thank you, madam. But actually, Tony and I are no longer together.'

Awele's eyes opened wide. 'Really?'

'Yes. I stopped the relationship some weeks ago.'

Awele looked in wonderment. 'I see. So, he now jumped to your friend and started dating her! It's good you dumped him. He's a bad guy.
Generally, men are bad.'

Maggie shook her head. 'So, Lara has agreed to the love advances from Tony. Chai!

'Be careful of such friends o. They're more of enemies within. Well, that's what I want to let you know.'

'Be careful of such friends o. They're more of enemies within. Well, that's what I want to let you know.'

'Thank you, madam. Thank you very much.' Awele left the flat. Maggie sighed. If indeed it was true that Tony was no dating Lara, then Lara
must be a bad friend. A very bad friend!

A couple of hours after she came to the house, Lara returned from work.

'Hey, Maggie, you're back!' Lara greeted. 'How was the trip, and how was the seminar?'

'Fine,' Maggie returned. Her reaction was cool and aloof. 'How's everything, and how's Tony?'

Lara stopped short. There was something in her friend's tone that was very noticeable.

'Everything's fine,' she replied slowly and sat on the sofa, starring at her friend, who refused to look at her in return.

'There's something I wanted to tell you before you traveled,' Lara said.

'And what's that?'

'It's about Tony.'

Maggie nodded. Madam Awele must be right, after all.

Lara shifted closer to her friend. 'Tony went a long way to prove that he and Cynthia were no longer in relationship as at the time the call to
your line was made. He brought the lady, Cynthia, to my office, and she finally confessed that she made that call out of anger to set him up.'

'Lara, wait,' Margaret said. 'Just go straight to the main point. You and Tony are now dating, right?'

Lara took a deep breath in. 'Right.'

'What?' Maggie stood up. 'So, it's true! You and Tony! How could you do this? I thought you were my friend!'

'Yes, I'm your friend. After listening to the confessions from Cynthia, I realized Tony was innocent.'

'And the next thing for you to do is to jump into his bed!'

'I did no such thing.'

'Wonderful! This is amazing! You that said dating him will be over your dead body. You that I told everything about Tony's misdeeds! The same you have opened your legs for him!'

'Hey, take it easy, Maggie. Don't talk about what you don't know.'

'Ehn, ehn. And what is it that I don't know? All I know is that you're just another cheap girl and you're such a bad friend!'

Lara was livid, but kept quiet.

'You're like a LovePeddler!' Maggie raved on. 'With a friend like you, one doesn't need an enemy.' With that, she went to her room, slamming the door
behind her.

Lara was stunned. She had expected Maggie to react badly, but not as caustic as this. She closed her eyes to recollect events. Maybe she
shouldn't have agreed with Tony, but why not? As at the time she agreed, had Maggie not moved on with her life? Had she not got herself
another man? So, what was her crime in falling for the man Maggie rejected and vowed she would never have anything to do with again?

She sighed. Yes, people would likely say she was wrong, but she felt she was right. Tony's attitude had convinced her that indeed, he had
genuine love for her. The previous night when she had slept in his place, he did not even touch her hand.

That was an indication that he meant what he said. Maggie's postulation that she had jumped into his bed, or she was quick to 'open her legs' for
him was misconstrued and wrong.

She shrugged. She hoped in due time, she would be able to explain to Maggie in details. She would give him some time.

On her part, Maggie was riled by her friend's action. How could Lara do this to her? What kind of friend was that? No, she must be a very bad
friend. Maybe she had been eyeing Tony all along, and was even glad when they had quarrel. Lara was covetous. That meant she was only
pretending when she was doing the go-between between her and Tony.

She must have been praying that the conflict should never be resolved! Oh, what a bad friend she had. She would take to the advice of Madam
Awele: she would be very careful with Lara henceforth. As a matter of fact, Lara had ceased to be her friend.

I would have justified the way Maggie react if she did not have a new boyfriend, or if the reaction was genuine concern for Lara, but since its not, I will say she went way too far. Except she has not gotten over Tony.

Tony came around to pick her again at the close of work.

'You don't have to be doing this,' Lara said. 'You don't have to stress yourself.'

He grinned. 'But I'm not stressed. I'm doing it with all pleasure.'

She smiled and they went to the car park together.

'How was the office?' he asked.

'Fine. How was business too?'

He smiled. 'Fine, we thank God.'

They settled in the car, and he moved it out of the park.

'Maggie is back from Port Harcourt.'

'I see.'

'She came yesterday evening and the first thing she did was to accuse me of throwing my legs open for you.'

Tony opened his mouth briefly in surprise.

'She said that after you told her about our relationship?'

'No. Somebody must have told her. She accused me of being a bad friend and a LovePeddler.'

'Oh my God. I'm so sorry about that. Believe me, I'm sorry. I feel responsible for her verbal assault. I wish I'm the one she's assaulting. I won't
mind since I know it's for love.' He looked at her. 'Don't be so disconcerted, my dear.'

She tried a smile and shrugged.

'See,' he went on. 'Everyday, I become more convinced that you're meant for me. I really love you, Lara. What reproach anyone tries to give you, just know that it's for me. I will compensate you with more love.'

Lara felt relaxed. His words were beginning to have therapeutic effects on her.

'Maybe I should try to see her and explained things to her,' he offered. 'What d'you think?'

She mused briefly. 'The question is: will she listen to you? Remember she has been avoiding you for a while now.'

He nodded. 'That's true. At this same time, I don't like the way she's subjecting you to ridicule.'

Lara sighed. 'It's okay. I'm sure she'll understand as time goes on.' The traffic was building up, but some minutes later, he parked the car in front
of her house.

'Let me try to see her. If she has not come, I'll wait for her. I'm ready to absorb whatever insults she gives.'

They went to the flat together. Maggie had not returned, so he sat patiently on the sofa.

'What drinks do I get you?' Lara asked.

He smiled. 'Anything , my dear.'

She went to the kitchen to get a pack of juice from the kitchen and a glass cup.

'Do you want some snacks with it? I can get you a bottle of groundnuts or eggroll from the neighborhood.'

'Don't bother, my dear. The drink is okay.'

She left him for the bedroom where she changed to casuals. She soon rejoined him in the sitting-room.

'I'm thinking of something,' he told her.

'What's that?'

She left him for the bedroom where she changed to casuals. She soon rejoined him in the sitting-room.

'I'm thinking of something,' he told her.

'What's that?'

He nodded. 'Why not get another apartment? Must you be sharing this one with her?'

Lara thought briefly over this.

'Will that be necessary? Maggie and I are good friends. It's just this little matter that is causing a rift between us. I'm sure we'll find ways of
resolving it.'

Tony nodded. 'It's just that I don't want anyone to be making you feel bad.' He held her left hand.

'Things will be okay,' she reiterated.

Just then, the door to the sitting-room opened and Maggie stepped in.

'Hello, Maggie,' he said. 'I've been waiting for you.'

'It's not me you were waiting for,' she retorted and hissed.

Tony stood up. 'See, give me just two minutes.'

Maggie hissed again and made for her bedroom. Tony and Lara looked at each other.

'I'll give her time to change her clothes and relax a bit.' he said.

Lara chuckled. Somehow, she was beginning to find the 'over reaction' of her friend ridiculous. Had Maggie not said Tony could go to blazes, for
all she cared? Why was she now acting as if she didn't want him to go in the first place?

Tony held Lara's hand again. There was nothing to hide again, he felt. And there was nothing to be ashamed of.

A couple of minutes after she came, Maggie came back to the living-room, carrying a small bag.

'You can have the whole apartment to yourself,' she said acrimoniously.

'Where're you going?' Lara asked.

'None of your business!' Maggie shot back.

She gave them one more scornful look and left the flat.

Tony sighed. 'This is serious,' he said.

Lara grimaced. 'I told you.'

He nodded. 'That's why I said it's probably better for you to get another apartment. I'll bear all the costs.'

Lara shook her head. 'And I still think it has not got to that. Thanks for your concern, but I believe she will calm down after a while.'

Tony shrugged. 'Well, if you say so.'

After Maggie left the house, she took a cab to Yinka's residence. She had decided she would be staying with him till further notice. She felt
disgusted to be living with Lara and she wanted to sever the ties between them as much as possible. She had discussed Tony's matter with
Yinka, and how she felt betrayed that the shameless guy was now dating her equally shameless friend. Yinka too had expressed surprise at the
development, but had later shrugged it off.

'Since you've expressed your lack of interest in the man, let him go ahead and date any other lady he desires,' he had said.

'But the lady in question happens to be my intimate friend,' Maggie put in. 'My close friend.'

Again, Yinka shrugged. 'She's an adult. If she thinks that's the best for her, so be it. On the issue of staying with me, you're very welcome, my
dear. You might as well be here till we get married.'

That settled it. That was why Maggie came to the house to pack some clothes. She had not really told Yinka she would be coming over that
evening, but the sight of Tony holding Lara's hand greatly distressed her, hence her decision to leave and be out of the vicinity of their so-called
love.

She soon got to his residence, paid the cab driver off and moved to his flat. He was not at home, but he had given her the spare key to the
place. She took her bag to the bedroom, removed her clothes and hanged them in his wardrobe. She then changed from her office wear to a
satin night wear with shorts. It was a sexy wear and she vividly recollected that Tony used to go crazy for her anytime she wore it.

She soon got to his residence, paid the cab driver off and moved to his flat. He was not at home, but he had given her the spare key to the place. She took her bag to the bedroom, removed her clothes and hanged them in his wardrobe. She then changed from her office wear to a satin night wear with shorts. It was a sexy wear and she vividly recollected that Tony used to go crazy for her anytime she wore it.

She went to the giant mirror to check out her profile. Her figure was pretty, attractive and sexy. She knew she was much prettier than Lara who was quiet short and was on the plump side. How could Tony leave her and go for Lara? She asked in her mind. But, she was the one that left Tony. She was the one that gave him the red card! But even at that, how could Tony now pick Lara, of all ladies?

Why couldn't he hold on to that Cynthia, who was much prettier? The only reason why Tony went for Lara, Margaret reasoned, was to spite her, Maggie. She could not conceive of any love he would have for Lara. He must be a vindictive guy who wanted her to feel sore. And Lara too was a bad girl. Just some items from him made her to jump into bed with her. Anyway, it was good riddance as she intended not to have anything to do with them again.

She left for the kitchen to start preparing the evening food. She first checked freezer for ingredients. Many were stocked there. She decided to make egusi soup and prepare wheat meal. Yes, Yinka said he liked that. She set to work immediately.

After being with Lara for about an hour, Tony stood up. 'Sorry, I have to go now,' he said. 'I'm expecting new delivery of stocks, and I'm sure they must have been delivered now. I need to inspect them.'

'Ops, that means I'll be all alone, so soon.'

'You can come along,' he said. 'Then, you can sleep over at my place, just like yesterday. You're always welcome there, Lara dear.'

She smiled. 'Okay. Let me pack some things.' that meant the flat would be empty of its tenants again that night.

By few minutes after eight, Maggie had finished preparing the meal she put the wheat meal in a food flask. Yinka had still not returned. She decided to call his number.

'Hello, Yinka love.'

'Hello, my sweet baby.'

'I'm in your house o, and I've prepared your favorite meal.'

'Really? Oh, that's good.'

'So, when are you coming back home?'

'Soon,' he said. 'Very soon.'

'Okay, honey. I'll be expecting you.

She smiled to herself as she cut the line. She dashed to the bedroom to spray more perfume on her body. She smiled to herself again as she
returned to the living-room. She switched the television station to the family channel as she awaited him.

It was almost one and half hour's time before he came home. That was how 'soon' he could be.

'Hello, my honey,' he greeted, coming to give her a peck. She caught her breath. The whiff of alcohol that came from his mouth was remarkable.

'You've been drinking,' she said.

'Yes,' he said. 'I drink once in a while.'

There was a slight slur in his speech and his steps appeared to be a little unsteady.

'And you're drunk!' she added.

He flopped on the seat next to her and shook his head. 'Yes, I've been drinking. But, no, I'm not drunk.'

He flopped on the seat next to her and shook his head. 'Yes, I've been drinking. But, no, I'm not drunk.'

She was not so impressed with his condition. She hated men drinking and getting drunk. He was on his feet again, removing his already loosened tie. 'Let me change. Then, I'll come and eat that special meal you've prepared for me.'

'Okay, darling,' she managed to say.

So, he used to drink! And she never knew until now. Well, in his very sober moments, she would have to warn him about drinking and getting drunk.

It seemed to take him eternity to change and come back to the sitting-room. He finally did and they went to the dining table.

'Have you been waiting for long?' He asked. It was an unnecessary question, but he asked it all the same.

'Yes,' she replied. 'Since after six.'

'That was quite long,' he agreed. 'Sorry to have kept you waiting.'

She dished the wheat meal and served the very nutritious egusi soup.

'Wow! What a great meal we have here.'

Margaret beamed in smile. They ate their meal.

'Hmn, great taste,' he commented.

'Thank you.'

Despite his open zeal, he did not eat much.

'Are you okay with what you've eaten?' she asked.

'Sure.' He washed his hands in the bowl and dried them.

'I must say it was delicious,' he said and patted her shoulder.

He left her for the remaining food, but there was no way she could finish it. She ate the one she could eat and clear the table. She washed the
dishes and dried them. Then, she returned to the sitting-room. She thought she would see him watching the television, but he was not there. It was already to eleven. Could he have retired to bed? She switched off the t.v and went to the bedroom.

There he was. She was surprised he had not only fallen asleep, but was snoring! So soon after his dinner? He had stripped himself to his boxer and singlet, but the way he left his shirt and trousers hanging on the chair showed that he wasn't mindful of arranging his things properly before hitting the pillow.

Well, this was disappointing. The sexy night wear she had on was not for a parade show. She had done that to arouse his erotic desire, so how
could he be sleeping? She climbed on the bed too and tapped him on the shoulders. She had to do that harder before she could arouse him.

'Hmn?' His eyes were half closed as he stared blankly at him.

'You did not even rest your food before sleeping off,' she said.

'I'm okay,' he mumbled.

'And you did not comment about what I'm putting on.'

'It's nice,' he said, closing his eyes.

She pouted her lips. 'Is that all you will say?'

'It's very, very nice.'

She knew the drinks must be at work, but she was much more important than any drink.

'Aren't you going to play with me?' she asked.

I feel for Maggie. The devil she knowns (Tony) is now better than the angel (Yinka) she didn't know. I wish her well and hope she won't blame Lara when the tables turn on her.
Thanks for the update and for updating frequently.
