Good day nairalanders,I guess this maybe the best section to post this, since this is where I visit most.
The pandemic has granted me an ironic freedom,so I decided to embark on a fitness challenge... It's to run for 60days and today been day 20 I've decided to carry my nairaland family along, who knows I might be inspiring others.

Constructive criticism is allowed!

Below is a picture for day1

Please what fitness plan will you recommend for a person with high body fat.
Should I burn fat first before proceeding to build up muscles or I should run both concurrently??
Also, I don't have this tough/manly face like yours, hope a muscular body will fit my face?lol
Lastly,if one stops or reduces weight lifting but still maintain a healthy diet, are muscles gonna disappear??

I've been doing quite the opposite (on purpose, though) bulking up by consuming fat to have calorie fuel and base for building muscle mass. I'm not much into the aesthetic part (being ripped). I'm all about building strength and muscle mass as a powerlifter.
Hmm. I thought you need proteins to build muscle mass, not fat?

True. The fat is for fuel though.

Proteins build mass. Fats are better fuel for the gym than carbs

Excess carbs get turned into fat anyway.
BTW, carbs burn faster than fat.
Your body is more likely to use glycogen than fat.
You use fat only when you do very low intensity exercise. Even at that, your body will burn glucose.

It depends on your goal. If you want to build muscles and accentuate a formidable male physique, then you have to lift progressively and eat clean. If you have a higher fat percentage (above 25%), then when you lift, your body will use the fat in your body to build muscles. In layman terms, fats are stored unused energy. When you eat too much and your body can't use it, it becomes a reserve (fats) to be used later. If you begin to lift heavy and reduce your carb/fat intake, while upping your protein and vegetables, in about three months, you will see huge progress.

So no, you do not have to burn fat first, fat will burn on its own when you begin to lift heavy, as your body will suck up the fat to grow muscles which is denser. When you begin to lift, you need to be on a caloric surplus, and fats can help.

Manly face is a result of a defined facial feature, which means low overall body fat. See the pics below, it is clear that after he lost weight, his jawline and masculine facial feature portrays definition. So yes, you will get a manly face when you lose fat, and not just that, you will feel proud and a good mood, with women finding you attractive.

Muscle will not disappear if you engage in a healthy lifestyle, but make sure that one in a while, you lift. It can be twice a month or so, and it can even be push-ups, not necessarily going to the gym. Keeping a healthy weight and low body fat is all about diet, not lifting. Lifting is for body toning while dieting is to keep the fats away.

That's if there is glucose to burn in the first place. To accelerate fat loss, it is necessary to go into a ketogenic diet while lifting. It is super effective in getting shredded quickly.

nice...

I'm more focused on adding muscle mass...I'm kind of skinny but I'm pushing out of that statue soon...

so what workout do I need to build n retain(most times I drop quickly) muscle mass mostly biceps ...looking for bigger arms.

As a starter, I will recommend 5x5 workout. It is simple, effective, and not complicated. You will see good results with it. When I started lifting, I followed this plan below then and saw good results. Now, I am more focused on maintenance not building muscles. So for this, I sprint, Do stair/hill/ climbing, push-ups, calisthenics, and most importantly. eat really clean.

Veggies and protein (whey, combined with fresh food that have high protein value).

I eat fresh pork sometimes on "off" days. Off season (not training), I consume a lot.

I think there will always be glucose.
The body runs on glucose.
Glucose can made from fats and proteins through the process of gluconeogenesis.

Well said @pansophist

Let me throw more light on paragraph 3 and 4.

One thing about muscle-building is that your face should become well-chiseled most especially when your body-fat level begins to drop. For me when I begin to add some body-fats, the first place I notice this is on my face.

Your muscles will not disappear but it will shrink. Muscle building is a lifestyle, it is lifelong . Once you stop training and eating right then the muscles begin to depreciate. At least you must train 3 days in a week. You must keep on challenging the muscles. Our body can adapt very easily to external stimulus. For a person to break away from the plateau zone into the freak mode takes massive, scientific and deliberate approach.

You can only achieve but little muscle-mass. You have to take it to the next level and start the Iron- pumping. Body,-weight exercises are mostly for maintenance of the muscles especially when you are far away from the gym or your equipments.

Nice one all the same.

It's easier to build muscles when you have body fat

Yes, weight-training does not necessarily gurantee you a large body-mass. It all depends on what you want to achieve. The way a power-lifter will train will be quite different from the way a pro-body builder or a fitness model will train. If you are scared of large body-mass, u can still train for lean muscle-mass.
