But to answer the question: divorces are more common now because both partners can be economically independent, and there are now laws that govern how and when children are paid for when couples separate.

A woman who was economically dependent on her partner (back in the day) would suffer through a lot to stay in a bad marriage, at least until the children are grown. Back then what were her options? She didn't have much options for good employment; very few men would want to marry a divorcee; and she wasn't all that welcome back to her dad's house. The man would take advantage of that dependency, so she had to take it. However, now she can just walk away and survive on her own, make enough money to hire househelp, so she doesn't have to put up with crap.

My impression is that if people (especially women) had the same opportunites 100 years ago as they do now, divorces would have been more common back then too.

To start with, love does not exist, but the one you people call love which is romantic love is not enough reason to marry anybody today!

Human to human relationship today has evolved, it goes beyond romantic love because whatever reason that made that man or woman to say he or she loves you, which is mostly sexually related (physical looks, endowments, etc) for men or financially related (for ladies), he or she will keep meeting better persons ready to offer them quadruple of those qualities that made him or her fall in love with you or pretend to love you


The things that can sustain relationship or marriage today are:

1.) Money

2.) Determination and absolute dedication

3.) Ability to sacrifice and to overlook issues

4.) Absolute fear of God for the highly religious
