Story for the gods. How would you pay #100,000 if you were indeed innocent? Abeg jare, say something else. If you were innocent you would sit there for as long as you were kept. No kobo. No shishi. Why you no call family? Why you no call lawyer? Lies every where. Something in your story stinks. Amagite2: |

Sheggy13:I just called my contacts at OAU, academic activities are in fact progressing seamlessly all over the university. No strike in OAU. This information is valid as far as 1 minute ago is concerned. |
cooldipo:Ask UniIlorin the same question. Basically, schools that join are not any better than those that don't. |
Of course it is true. Saraki however never anticipated the backlash from Nigerians' reactions. Like someone said, nothing is true in Nigeria until it stares you in the face. Tomorrow when he has increased the salary he will again say he never said it's not true. No to criminal wage! Yes to maximum wage! |
Female genital mutilation (FGM) is real. It is alive and kicking in Nigeria. I daresay that most of Nigerian females have been genitally mutilated. FGM involves cutting off different parts of the female private part mostly for the purpose of preventing 'promiscuity'. At the most basic form it involves cutting off a girl's clitoris. More invasive degrees of FGM have included also scraping off the labia minora and labia majora (the two folds at the entrance of the vag.ina). And because of FGM it is almost impossible for the female to enjoy sex. If you have ever met a lady/woman that rhetorically asks you, "Is sex food?", such a woman is most likely a victim of FGM. Unfortunately more women are involved in the perpetuation of FGM on baby girls. FGM scars the girl for life and robs her of ever enjoying sex. FGM is the equivalent of cutting a baby boy's peni.s. There should be a punishment against any person involved in the ugly and barbaric act. Our women deserve the right to enjoy sex, it is a fundamental human right. Say no to female genital mutilation. What punishment should be measured out to anyone found culpable? |

Bede2u:It's shocking you so easily ran out of your insulting breath. You knew you couldn't sustain it why did you then start it? Congrats, you live abroad. Newsflash: you're the only one living abroad. Newsflash: no one gives a shit whether or not you're a successul engineer or a successful corpse-washer. Those of us in Nigeria are doing just fine, the 'abroad' is a place many of us abandoned to join nation-building in our own country. Away with your neo-slavery mentality. |
Bede2u:Biafra is DOA (dead on arrival), just like your sel.fish and imbe.cilic misleaders. And you're not even going to need the help of any other ethnic group to kill it for you, you sel.fish and sil.ly id.iots will do that all by yourself. It's only the no-do-gooder Igbos like yourself and your palmwine drinker Kanu that still believes in Biafra. The sensible ones among you have moved on with their lives by building business empires in the same Nigeria that opon.us like you keep castigating. [Opon.us means lesser human beings thinking through their sh.ith.oles.] |
I chuckle each time I hear some useless Igbos chant Biafra. Lazy Biafran human beings. Kanu is speedily rushing to his certain death, and he is good company of half-wit Ipobians in the same pursuit. Kanu is going to kill himself by himself...that's what folly does to those in whose heart it resides. Biafra is dead and gone, together with the fraud that Ojukwu was. |

We cannot conclude that the North belongs to Buhari. That North belongs to Atiku too. We cannot conclude that the SW belongs to him just because APC won; we all know how APC won, they were simply rigged in both in Ekiti and Osun state. Most of those who will vote in SW in 2019 are the grassroot that have been assaulted and insulted by Buhari's conduct. The only unpredictable section is the SE; they are prone to political miscalculations.. A certain chunk of them plan to support Buhari so that in 2023 an Igbo man can become the President. It's only a child that would believe in such misplaced optimism. In the interest of Nigeria, Buhari should go back home. And yes, the coalition is strong enough to unseat him. |
The beauty of democracy and a free society is that everyone has the right to hold an opinion and to interpret publicly available facts in ways that suit him. There is something most Nigerians will agree on though, that the huge goodwill that saw Buhari come into office has now largely been depleted. Months after he was sworn in, Nigerians couldn't help calling him, "Baba go slow". We all thought he was taking his time to understudy the nations economy and that we would soon come out robustly to address those challenges. But as his tenure winds to a close many Nigerians have come to conclude that it it is not that Buhari was slow initially, he was (and still is) irreparably incapable of fixing any thing. Joined to that is his proclivity to flouting court orders, his nepotism and clannishness, active support for corruption, his poverty of ideas and lack of any modicum of grace as a leader. The question that the 2019 election will answer is if his personal failings as a leader are enough to make the electorate vote for his opponent. |

I have a feeling this is just a foretaste of the coalition of disparate interests that will take place to ensure that President Muhammadu Buhari is sacked from the Aso Rock. The only other time in our recent history that we have seen different powerful Nigerians come together to unseat a sitting government was during the electoral battle featuring former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and former dictator General Muhammadu Buhari, who later became the former's nemesis. And Nigerians all know the end result of that: the incumbent president was sacked from office. The same type of coming together, suspending personal grudges, ignoring religion and ethnic division to remove a sitting President appears to be actively in the pipeline. President Muhammadu Buhari indeed has many sins ranging from nepotism, to running the country like a dictator, flagrantly disobeying court orders, corruption, irresponsible spending of the taxpayers' money (tradermoni, e.g.), lacking the carriage and competence and grooming of a president, presiding over trigger-happy herdsmen that have seen thousands of Nigerians to their graves, and most importantly his permanent inability to fix the nation's economy. In a saner country, his own party would not have considered him worthy of flying the party's flag at the 2019 presidential elections. The question everyone is asking now is, "Will General Muhammadu Buhari survive this coalition of powerbrokers who are united in their determination to return the President to his little Daura village? Will his mediocre political career indeed survive beyond the first term in office? |
Comparing online communication and exchanges with what obtains in other climes, Nigerians especially on Nairaland appear to be constantly angry. They often need no provoking before they get so abusive. And this seems to contradict the report that would make us believe that Nigerians are some of the world happiest people. Is there a reason that we are always so angry, and constantly attacking each other? lalasticlala nobody |
Thanks all. Reading through the contributions here I learned so much about different health professions in Nigeria. We also had to do consultations with individual professionals, Pharmacists, MBBS, and MLScientists, both those doing very well and those that are not doing so well (most of them never really admitted they weren't doing so well)... And I am happy to inform you that my brother is now in 100L Obafemi Awolowo University, studying pharmacy. And he is very excited studying the course. He seemed to have had his path outlined before him now: study pharmacy and go into private practice where he will get to engage patients directly and at the same time build the business. My advice is for individuals looking for admission to put in a lot of thought and question-asking before choosing a course. The process of seeking information and understanding alone is very enriching. We met and interacted with awesome scientists, doctors and pharmacists... I must also say that none of them was rude like some of those that contributed in this thread. (I still do not know why Nigerians are so darn angry on Nairaland)... In the end, I have gained fresh perspectives about an area I didn't know much about. Thank you Nairaland. |
Xaos:Thanks for the links. I'm aware of the first one, and the stipulations of the law are mischieviously as confusing as f**k. Under the same section 7, it defilement was defined in terms of age 11, age 12 to 15 and age 18. I call it mischievious because multiple interpretations can easily be made and age 11 justified. If you check www.ageofconsent.net, Nigeria has 11 years against it. My question, why? |
The Age of Consent is the legal age at which an individual is considered mature enough to consent to sex. Sexual relations with someone under the Age of Consent are considered statutory rape, even (in some jurisdictions), if both partners are themselves younger than the Age of Consent. This qualifies Nigeria as the country with lowest legal age for sex in the world. One wonders what the rationale was for bringing the age of consent for Nigeria so low. Perhaps it is in a bid to make it not an offence to sleep with a primary school boy or girl. https://www.ageofconsent.net/world
