THE BUREAU | POLITICS https://i0.wp.com/thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Goodluck-Jonathan.jpg?w=636&ssl=1 By Madaki Raphael Former President Goodluck Jonathan would not leave the country until he accepts the presidential form from the Fulani group behind the acquisition of the N100 million Presidential nomination and expression of interest forms of the All Progressives Congress and are made happy, according to the Fulani organization. The former President has previously rejected the paperwork collected on his behalf, claiming that they had been purchased without his permission. On Monday, the Fulani supporters' group purchased the ruling APC forms for him, continuing the habit of aspirants purchasing the forms through proxies. The former president's office said he was "unaware of this bid and did not authorize it" in a statement. Usman Mohammed, Secretary of the Fulani Group, stated that the nomination was meant to be a surprise gift to the ECOWAS special envoy. He pointed out that if the ex-president refused to accept the nomination form as he threatened, they would have no choice but to force him to do so."We won't let him out of Nigeria if he doesn't accept our form," he stated. According to the scribe, the Fulani pastoralists chose Jonathan out of nearly 30 APC presidential contenders because of his patriotism and love for Nigeria. Mohammed added that due of the improvement he brought to the Fulani and Almajiri schools, his people were forced to sell their livestock to raise money for nomination forms. "Jonathan is a Christian with a Muslim heart." He backed Almajiri schools, looked after our children, and fed them in many northern states when he was president. Fulani cattle herders in the country contributed funds for the nomination forms. Some media outlets reported on Miyetti Allah, or Northern Youths. That is not correct. "Besides, of all the APC presidential contenders, he has the greatest experience." None of the other candidates, including Tinubu, has ever served as president of the country. "He is a man who adores Nigerians and prefers the children of others before his own." We need him to keep working on his Almajiri school project, especially in Kano, where there are almost three million kids. "They didn't spend their money on uniforms," he explained. THE BUREAU By Madaki R. Elon Musk posted a cryptic message about his death on Twitter. In the post, he told his followers that "If he dies under mysterious circumstances, it’s been nice knowing them". This has generated a lot of reactions from users of the micro blogging application. Mr. Musk recently acquired Twitter in a deal well over $43 Billion. Recall that John McAfee posted a similar message shortly before his death. Whatever it is, we hope that Mr. Musk is fine. THE BUREAU https://i0.wp.com/thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Chopped-off-finger.jpg?w=500&ssl=1 Ajenifuja Kudirat, a retired customs officer, is accused of chopping off the finger of a 10-year-old girl, Hawau Ibrahim, for allegedly stealing N50. Ajenifuja had sent Ibrahim on an errand and instructed the young girl to grab the money from the top of the refrigerator, according to an eyewitness. The victim is said to have taken N200 from the N250 on the scene. The remaining N50, however, disappeared. Ibrahim was accused of theft by the retired cop, which the little girl disputed. She then brought her to her room and hacked off her middle finger with a machete to prevent her from stealing. According to Ebenezer Omejalile, co-founder of the Advocate for Children and Vulnerable People's Network, the lost money was eventually discovered (ACVPN). According to him, the victim's mother is demanding justice for her daughter because Ajenifuja boasted that she would not be prosecuted for the crime. "The perpetrator is Ajenifuja Kudirat, a former customs officer who lives in Oko Afo along the Lagos-Badagry Road," he said. This incident happened four days ago, according to the required reporter. "We have reliable information that Ajenifuja Kudirat instructed the victim to remove N200 naira from the N250 kept on top of the refrigerator in order to obtain a specific medicine for her." "According to reports, the victim is one of two children that live with the culprit. When the victim returned from where Kudirat had sent her, she inquired for the N50 that had gone missing, and the victim told her she had not taken it. "Ajenifuja Kudirat immediately hauled the 10-year-old girl into her room, pulled out a machete, and cut off one of her fingers." "The victim's mother is wailing for justice because the missing N50 was discovered, but the criminal, Ajenifuja Kudirat, continued to gloat to the victim's mother that no police would be able to apprehend her." Hawau Ibrahim is the victim, and she is ten years old." Source: The Bureau |

THE BUREAU By Madaki Raphael https://i0.wp.com/thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/NCC.jpg?w=750&ssl=1 The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has verified the issuing of final letters of award for Fifth Generation (5G) Spectrum Licences to MTN and Mafab Communications, the winners of the Commission's 3.5GHz spectrum auction on Monday, December 13, 2021. The Commission's Management, led by Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, confirmed this to the Board of Commissioners at the Board's Special Meeting on Wednesday, April 20 and Thursday, April 21, 2022, where the Board considered updates from Management on the spectrum auction's status. According to a statement issued by the NCC and signed by Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, Director, Public Affairs, with the issuance of the final letters of awards of 5G spectrum and in accordance with the Auction's Information Memorandum (IM), the two licensees are now expected to accelerate the deployment of 5G networks, ushering Nigeria into a more robust Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and a more digitized Nigerian economy. The licensees are slated to begin rolling out 5G services on August 24, 2022, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the 5G license. When fully operational, the 5G network will provide a slew of benefits and opportunities for the country's fast growth and smart life. Significant network benefits are also promised as a result of the technology, including increased connection speed, mobility, and capacity, as well as low-latency capabilities. The National Frequency Management Council (NFMC), chaired by Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, officially handed over the spectrum allocation for 5G deployment as well as the Federal Government-approved National Policy on 5G to the Commission on February 22, 2022, following a transparent, diligent, fair, and credible auction of 3.5GHz on December 13, 2021. Following that, on February 24, 2022, the Commission validated the two spectrum winners' complete payment of $273.6 million each for the 5G spectrum license, in addition to the spectrum assignment fee paid by MTN. The Commission is optimistic that effective implementation of the National 5G Policy will hasten the achievement of national targets set out in the Nigerian National Broadband Plan (NNBP) 2020-2025, the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) 2020-2030, and other sectoral policies aimed at accelerating Nigeria's digital transformation. While licensees are expected to achieve their 5G network rollout deadlines, the NCC is requiring the private sector and government to work together to revolutionize every element of the nation's economy through 5G, which will usher in greater change than the 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. THE BUREAU | OPINION By Ezeani, Chukwunonso Elvis It is not by mistake that all TV headlines as at this morning bore on headlines, stories about the potential of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress and lead opposition, the People’s Democratic Party fielding presidential candidates from the North of Nigeria. The new resolution may actually be a patriotic one as politicians of Southern extraction appear to want to be clever by half. Hiding under popular clamors for power shift to the South of Nigeria, politicians of the South West and the oil rich Niger Delta have joined the presidential race. They do this, knowing fully well that in the South of Nigeria, only the political micro zone - South East has been excluded from the presidency and vice since 1999; a year that welcomed the return of Nigeria to democracy. Against newest permutations and upsets in the political space of the South of Nigeria, it is my advise that the zone waits another 8 years while the presidency goes to either the North East or North Central. It will still be equity. I hold this opinion; hopeful that by 2031, with this current generation of politicians from the South West and South South retired permanently from politics, they will be decent enough; to from a position of personal handicap, provide guidance to the next generation of politicians on how to build inclusion and tame inordinate quests for power. Simply put, it is my view that the South either puts its house in order and balance power rotation from within itself or the presidency is gifted to the North for a further 8 years. Politicians of the South West in exercise of their constitutional right after fully taking turns of the presidency and vice since 1999 have correctly argued that power is taken not given. The South West produced a Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo between 1999 to 2007. Presently, the Vice President in the subsisting Muhammadu Buhari’s government, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is also from the zone. Those from the South South have also said that it is a game of capacity and are thus ready to commit enormous petrodollars to seek the presidency after a cumulative 8 years of exercising political power as Vice President and later president. They are doing no wrong! Before now, the South South, produced the running mate to Late President, Umar Musa Yar’Adua between 2007 till 2010. Following the death of Late President, Umar Musa Yar’Adua in 2010, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, His Vice President transitioned to the presidency, served out the remainder of the 4 years tenure and won another round of election in 2011 and served as President until 2015. However, it should be clear to all that the South East; without recourse to the South West and the South South, reserves the inalienable right to take its political destiny into its hands, chart its own course and negotiate what will be the fastest route to the Nigerian presidency for the zone for which all cards are currently on the table including last minute jokers. Pursuant to the above, those waiting to be further begged because according to utterances of their supporters, power is taken not given, should gird their loins and watch those who are expert in taking power snatch it from them. Against the above background and for clarity; I hereby put it on record that I am at one with the views of Chief Whip of the 9th Nigerian Senate, His Excellency, Dr. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and erudite Igbo scholar, Professor Udenta Udenta on this subject matter to the effect that it is the turn of the South East to produce the next president of Nigeria as the zone is in excess supply of candidates who stand above their peers in character, knowledge, capacity and verifiable antecedents in corporate and public governance. Conclusively, if politicians from the South West and the South South refuse to imbibe an irreducible standard of decency by supporting the South East to produce a Nigerian president in 2023 as pathway to promoting inclusiveness, peace, stability and unity, the presidency should remain the preserve of Northern Nigeria with the South, content with playing second fiddle. However, come 2023, politicians from the South West and their counterparts in the South South who think the South East will be schemed out to massage the small egos of tin gods; will see, late in the day an organized pushback that will go down in history as the most devastating non-violent political confrontation in Nigeria. THE BUREAU By Ohepo Ohepo https://i0.wp.com/thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/NCC.jpg?w=750&ssl=1 The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has said that the ongoing implementation of the National Identity Number and SIM linkage policy in Nigeria has denied terrorists and bandits access to telecommunication services in the country. Ephraim Nwokonanya, director, Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement NCC, represented by Alkasim Umar, head Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement (NCC), made this disclosure at the One-day Capacity Building for members of the Nigerian Information Technology Reporters’ Association (NITRA), Abuja Chapter at the Commission Headquarters, Abuja on Thursday, April 28. Umar who was speaking on the NIN-SIM linkage, Menace of Network Booster Devices, other Compliance, Monitoring Enforcement issues of the Commission, stressed that there is appreciable progress in NIN-SIM linkage policy meant to address rising cases of insurgency, kidnapping and banditry in the country. He explained that NIN-SIM implementation has been a potent tool in addressing the Nation’s insecurity challenges. “Yes, we are making progress. The only challenge we are faced with now is, if they kidnap you, I mean the bandits, they use your number to call. They will never use their phone lines. It is the kidnapped person’s phone number they use to call and switch it off immediately. They can keep you at a different place and make calls somewhere else. If a phone is off, there is no way one can trace it. It’s a big challenge. Even in the National Assembly someone brought this up, to ban all kidnappers’ lines, some people objected, that if they use a person number to make calls why can’t Federal Government block the terrorists/bandits phone numbers. Then someone rose up to say there will be more killings, this is because kidnappers are after victims’ money so there is no way it will curb the problem. But now there is progress, because they are being denied of SIM cards,” he stated. Source: The Bureau |
THE BUREAU https://i0.wp.com/thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Bello.jpeg?w=640&ssl=1 Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi state, has paid N100 million to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the party's forms to run in the 2023 presidential election. Bello paid for the presidential form on Tuesday morning, April 26 2022, according to Kolapo, making him the first to officially clinch his bid for the presidency in 2023. Kolapo went on to say that by paying for the forms, Bello's supporters may be confident that the governor's name will appear on the ballot in 2023. THE BUREAU | SPORTS https://i0.wp.com/thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Osimen.jpg?w=1200&ssl=1 Arsenal are still looking for a proven striker as the summer transfer window approaches, and Freddie Paxton believes that they have spoken to representatives of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Newcastle has previously approached the Nigerian international, but he is said to prefer a move to Emirates Stadium provided the Gunners can raise the €100 million (£84 million/$107 million) required to lure him away from Serie A. Although, the Gunners will have to sell some players in order to fund the move. They have lined up Nicolas Pepe, Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares for sale. The Gunner are likely to be without its major strikers (Lacazetter and Edie Nketia) at the end of the current season. https://thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Osimen-twitter.png Credit: The Bureau Cc: honeric01, semid4lyfe |

THE BUREAU — SPORTS https://i0.wp.com/thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Antonio.jpg?w=1980&ssl=1 Real Madrid and Manchester United are interested in signing Antonio Rudiger, who will depart Stamford Bridge when his contract expires. Antonio Rudiger will leave Chelsea this summer, according to Thomas Tuchel. The centre-contract back’s at Stamford Bridge runs up at the end of the season, and the club has been unable to persuade him to extend it. Tuchel announced his decision to resign after his team’s 1-0 win over West Ham on Sunday. “He wants to leave the club,” says the circumstance. He told me about it in a private conversation,” he stated. “I and the club gave everything we had, but we couldn’t fight any longer due of the actions.” “We would at least be able to continue fighting if the sanctions were lifted, but our hands are shackled.” We don’t consider it as a personal attack. It’s entirely up to him.”Rudiger will depart the club at the conclusion of the season. Real Madrid is leading the race to sign him, with Manchester United and Barcelona behind behind. Madrid and the 29-year-representatives old’s are in advanced talks. United is still in the running, and they are hoping to persuade him to stay in England by moving to Old Trafford. Rudiger’s decision to quit was influenced by the uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership. After current owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned, the club worked closely with the UK government to organize the sale of the club, but the confusion has caused Rudiger to desire to depart. THE BUREAU https://i0.wp.com/thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Bello.jpeg?w=640&ssl=1 Yahaya Bello's campaign spokesperson, Yemi Kolapo, said Jonathan would lose if the Kogi State governor ran for president under the APC banner. "What I will say is that whether Jonathan announces or not, whether he joins APC or not, he is not a threat," she remarked. The ticket will be given to Yahaya Bello. Everyone has the right to compete for any job. "So it's up to him (Jonathan) whether he wants to do it in the APC or the PDP. That is not going to deter anyone. Yahaya Bello will be on the ballot regardless of what they do or how many others enter the race at this moment." Attempts to reach Jonathan's spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, were unsuccessful since he did not react to a text message sent. Credit: The Bureau |
THE BUREAU https://i0.wp.com/thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Jona.jpg?w=644&ssl=1 The leader of the Grassroot Network for Asiwaju Tinubu group, Mr Abiodun Mafe, said that Jonathan was not known to be a member of the APC hence he could not be the presidential candidate of the party. “Jonathan has never been a member of the APC, so how will it be possible for anyone to say that he will be made a consensus candidate? Until he now proves to the whole world that he is a card-carrying member of the APC, it can’t be. Even at that, there is a process. Constitutionally, anybody who is a member of the APC has the right to contest but as far as I am concerned Jonathan is not a part,” Mafe stated.Goodluck Jonathan last week, was asked by a political group to run for the highest seat of power in Nigeria. Although, Mr. Jonathan did not accept nor reject the plea, but he said he is still making consultation(s). Jonathan has been absent from all PDP gatherings for the past two years, it is unclear if he has switched allegiance to the APC, the party he once condemned. Credit: The Bureau |
THE BUREAU https://i0.wp.com/thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Kidnap-Kingpin.jpg?w=719&ssl=1 A suspected leader of the kidnappers in Ofu Local Government was apprehended during a raid along Adumu, Ochadamu, and Ogbakpedo areas of the Local Government on Thursday evening, April 21, 2022, in furtherance of the Men of Nigeria Hunters Council Ofu chapter's commitment to keep the Local Government safe from all forms of criminality. The criminal group's commander was apprehended by the hunters while fleeing from his hideout to catch a cab from Ochadamu Junction. During questioning, the suspected commander admitted to leading numerous successful operations along the Itobe/Ogbakpedo route, kidnapping and collecting large ransoms from unsuspecting motorists and commuters. The Special Adviser to Ofu Local Government on Security Matters, Hon. Mohammed Lawal Musa, stated at the scene of the incident that the group's leader and two other members escaped during the previous operation that claimed the deaths of their two members. He claimed that the kingpin was apprehended by hunters after a thorough manhunt, investigation, and search in all of the targeted sites' forests. He praised the hunters' bravery and chivalry for their recent achievements, but warned them not to rest on their laurels. Hon. Lawal underlined his zero tolerance for crime, advising all would-be criminals to stop, and revealing that the Local Government has launched a War on Kidnapping and other social vices. The group's leader was turned over to Nigerian Navy officers for further investigation and trial. Source: The Bureau |
THE BUREAU https://i0.wp.com/thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Nwajuiba.jpg?w=640&ssl=1 Project Nigeria, a political pressure group, has gathered approximately N100 million for the Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, to purchase the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the All Progressives Congress presidential primary (APC). In an interview with newsmen, Nwajiuba stated that he had been informed by the organisation that over 1,000 people had paid over N100 million to purchase the APC presidential forms for him. The Minister, who expressed delight that the organization was able to raise the funds, stated that the outcome of his meeting with the Project Nigeria Group and other stakeholders throughout the country would determine if he would run for the coveted job. "In my case, I have the unique chance of being pushed by a wide spectrum of Nigerians; young people and others from various regions of Nigeria, who are donating both money and time to advance this project," Nwajiuba said. They've taken on the task of figuring out where to get the money while relieving me of the stress. One of them informed me that they are currently exceeding the figure by a few fractions. "There are over 1,000 contributors from all around the world." "All I was told was that they were ready." I've tried to meet with them, but they only want to meet with me once they get the forms." "I don't want to answer that question until they (members of the Project Nigeria Group) come," he said when asked if he would run for president and when he plans to proclaim his desire. It isn't solely up to me to make the decision. "I am truly impressed by their telling me that over 1,000 people have given," she says. I believed it was a prank until I realized how many individuals had contributed. "When I get a chance to meet with the group, we'll talk about it." It is not something that can be decided by a single person; it will need a group of people, almost like a collegiate, to bring everyone together to work in the same direction so that the country may get traction on the road to progress." When asked if it was reasonable for the party to set the amount for the presidential, governorship, and other forms of elections at amounts that many Nigerians characterized as obscene, he said yes. "Every political party decides how it wants to operate," Nwajiuba stated. "What they decide is based on what they have." For example, my supporters have already told me, via the Project Nigeria Group, that they have received and exceeded the amount they requested. "Even if you offered N1 party forms, it would still be subject to diverse viewpoints, and that is the beauty of democracy: everyone has their own point of view." However, we, as party members, have delegated our party's administration to the National Executive Committee, which has rendered a decision on our behalf."We can't second-guess them because there are so many variables; I don't know everything they're thinking about." The Project Nigeria Platform, according to sources, is a collection of tens of thousands of Nigerians from various ethnic, gender, and age groups. "We began mobilizing to raise the funds recently by calling on willing members to contribute donations in sums ranging from five hundred thousand Naira toward actualizing our desire to support a young detribalized, patriotic, and capable Nigerian to contest the highest office in the land," one of the members who chose to remain anonymous said.We want to make sure that no one with a lot of money gets in the way of our goal of creating a new, united Nigeria based on revolutionary ideas, integrity, capacity, and good governance." THE BUREAU | ABUJA https://i0.wp.com/thebureau.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/APC-Logo.jpg?w=650&ssl=1 The sale of expressions of interest and nomination papers for APC electoral posts, which had been scheduled for today (Saturday), has been postponed. This is due to the fact that the contractor in charge of printing the forms failed to produce on time. The party had not yet finalised its protocols for the selling of forms and the primary elections, which are set to take place from May 18 to June 1, 2022, according to THE BUREAU. A high party source, who did not want to be identified, told our correspondent on Friday that no new date for the sale of forms had been set. "The sale of forms that was originally scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) has been postponed," the source said. The start date for the exercise has yet to be determined. On Monday, the NWC will decide on a new date. "The postponement was necessitated due to the contractor's failure to supply the forms." The printer has yet to send the forms as of this writing (Friday evening). The contractor is anticipated to deliver over the weekend, so we're hoping to start the exercise next week." Meanwhile, the APC's six directors in Buhari House have been ordered to take a mandatory leave starting on Friday. The head of the party's legal department is one of individuals who would be affected by the new instruction. All directors must hand over their departments to the most senior officials below them, according to a letter signed by the National Secretary, Dr Iyiola Omisore, dated April 21, 2022. This decision is in keeping with the Transition Committee's proposal, which was made three weeks ago by the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led NWC. According to THE BUREAU, APC Chairman Abdullahi Adamu hinted at his plan to investigate the national secretariat as well as the directors. After getting his certificate of return from the National Convention Election Committee, which is overseen by Jigawa State Governor Muhammad Badaru, Adamu said this. "I am a team player, and as much as possible, I want to carry everybody along," he told party officials at the time. We will undoubtedly need to look at the secretariat if God Almighty wills it, but I'm not saying anything now until the transition committee submits its report." According to a reliable party source, the new move is part of the NWC's efforts to reorganize the secretariat. When reached for comment on the situation, the party's National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, did not pick up the phone and had not responded to text messages as of the time of filing this story. In other news, the party has promised to return form fees to aspirants who honored the party's consensus agreement by standing down during the national convention last month. Source |
