It seems my good ol' Naija is a freer society than the supposedly God's own country. at every critical point in american history, the govt always steps in to help the less privileged. major economists believe stimulus will help the economy. so the president did what he had to do. same thing they told bush and bush did what he had to do (against his party's wishes) some people need health care reforms. you can keep your healthcare b/c obviously it is good, but dont stop the president from helping those who need help. have a heart.

and why maintain unnecesary defence spending on a plane that is no longer needed? cut defense spending from unnecessary to indispensible projects. and who gave the advice? republican defence secretary bob gates.

some of obama's policies have been unacceptable to me, but all this psychio talk will lead nowhere

You know, the Prof would have made more sense if he had made this kind of argument. I would easily swallow charges of excessive force at the Police Officer, but racism or racial profiling? That is a stretch.

I think it is pertinent to note that the Prof was not arrested in his house but outside. It may have been still in his compound, but the arrest took place in public view when the Prof persisted in his belligerent behaviour.

As to whether a person can be arrested in his house for disorderly conduct, I think there is a fine line here. I am not a legal expert but aren't people arrested in their homes when they commit a crime? While disorderly conduct is not a crime but a misdemeanour, I find it hard to swallow the notion that you are free to do whatever you want as long as it is done within the confines on your own house. Can you grow Pot in your house and expect not to be arrested? I'll appreciate your thoughts on this.

a) the prof was arrested outside his house, but in his compound therefore not his home anymore

b) he (tayo) is not a legal expert . . but can purportedly give expert legal opinion by force

c) people can be arrested in their homes for a crime, though the professor did not commit a crime . . but he can be arrested anyway

d) let me (tayod) compare the prof's action to growing pot at home . . . since his attempt to link the prof with those who were against rosa parks did not work out fine

For ones you made some sense. Rosa Parks didn't refuse toget up from her sit because of the desire to engage in some civil disobedience.  What I am trying to allude to is very simple.  You may choose to be involved in civil disobedience to the extent you are willing to accept the consequences. The Prof was involved in disorderly conduct and wasn't happy with the consequences.  He only bandied the word racial profiling around to get back at the cop.

Theis situation was brought about by an egoistic elitist who finds it difficult to submit to authority, especially when the authority figure is not of his race.

perhaps for once you were able to recognize objective intelligence. While I'm no fan of mr gates, what happened to him would never have happened to a white harvard prof. U can continue your denial/delusion or you can accept the hard truth. There was a racial bias here. But I hesitate to go beyond this and call the officer racist.

anyway, obama is the president. i did not expect him to get involved in this mess and even if he was asked, i expected him to be more cautious with his response.

however, i never maligned the officer. i didnt call him racist. i'll rather say his action was due to a ricial bias that exists perhaps unconsciously in the mind of many americans of all races including some blacks, that blakcs are more likely to be criminals. i have seen black girls who will rush to protect their handbags when they see young black males around them. it's all due to what we see on tv everyday.

You guys are the ones keeping this issue alive. Same brouhaha was made regarding John McCain's birth certificate. The guy produced one. Now that someone raised the issue with Obama's all we've seen is a certificate of live birth and not a real birth certificate. Like I said, this is a non-issue to me, but if you decide to make an issue out of it, you can technically not prove that Obama was born in Hawaii without a legal birth certificate!

By the way, how did this issue get in the mix of our discussions?

even the republican gov of hawaii has stated that he has seen the certificate. the state of hawaii says the document obama showed is the legal evidence of birth in their state. it is the acceptable document used for US passport, it is so genuine (in hawaii) that the hawaiian authorities can not issue the original document. they give the photocopies while anyone who wants to see the original will have to come to hawaii to see them.

but tayo d, the nigerian born expert on hawaii birth certificates says it is not enough. therefore obama is actually an illegal resident of america and should be deported. . . abi?
