@Pres-elect,
Please stop talking rubbish that you don't know. You just made an allegation which you've been asked to prove. Rather than take the coming out clean approach, you are here making some other allegations and trying to demonise other people.

Please debate if you are here for one. This emotionalism which can be faked by anybody who may not truly empathise with the folks does not score you any poiint in my book.
i already expressed my error by stating that i live in the UK. this shows i did not know that children have some form of universal coverage already in the US. unlike u, i'm very comfortable with accepting an error in a debate whenever it is proved. i did not know u guys already cover all children. which is good.

and pls be a bit more civil in ur posts. this is the first time i find myself debating reasonably . . . even if disagreeably with both tayo and kobo. . . let's keep it that way . .
Foreign AffairsRe: Cash For What?. . . by preselect(m): 10:13pm On Aug 18, 2009
@tayo
yeah, i'm very emotional about this healthcare thing. here is part of the reason why. . .
i worked in owerri in imo-state b4 i left for the UK. i had a terrible time with patients, especially children who i watch die b/c their parents are unable to afford simple medicine. i was shocked even further by the apparent lack of emotion by the nurses and senior doctors in worked with. i could not stand it, it was one of the reasons why i left nigeria as i could not imagine being the one to deliver bad news everyday to some crying parent/relative.

i was shocked to realise that such things are possible in the united states . . call me mad. . but i do believe. . .at least it is my own opinion . . that health care is a human right. . . yes . . .that's how i feel.

and i know US has the money, why cant it spend it to give care to the poorer ones? have u lost a loved one b4? i have lost my mum and i strongly believe it was due to poor healthcare. the pain lives with me even as i make this posts. it is very painful, you wont wish it even for ur enemy. i tell u, and i pray u never have such experience.

tayo and kobojunkie, i do believe that america can get every person, at least all legal residents(to start with) covered. it is moral, it is the right thing to do, it makes sense and it will make a healthier population which begets a more productive economy. and it wont affect your lifestyle negatively, especially as ur tax wont be increased . . unless u get above $250,000/yr
Foreign AffairsRe: Cash For What?. . . by preselect(m): 10:01pm On Aug 18, 2009
i live in the UK.

if a parent dies b/c of an untreated illness secondary to lack of healthcare coverage, secondary to poverty . . . i guess his children will be in a good position to benefit from the do-nothing policies that tayo is proposing.

i guess there is universal coverage for pregnant women incase of a complication from pregnancy that needs medical attention.

tayo, when you guote the bible, i get scared. pastors use this to do a lot of damage, republicans use it to do damage, politicians in nigeria, and even the devil used the bible to do damage . . only christ was too much for him.

the bible is against a reform that will help poorer people abi. ur love for children does not reach those children who may grow without parents b/c their parents died due to lack of healthcare

and ur bible is also against those children who may die b/c their parents are not covered. remember ur child(God bless him/her) needed some medical attention at birth that cost $30,000 which was paid b/c u were covered. some other kids would have died if their parents were not covered . . that is what ur bible teaches abi

could u mail me which version of the bible you read?
never mind, i wont read it anyway

I would want to the plan to at least consider requiring that folks be force to at least adopt a healthy lifestyle before qualifying for health insurance.
if i had the power, i would give you an oscar for this statement alone. it shows a lot of wisdom as well as compassion in one sentence.

this issue of healthcare is not about what is liberal option or conservative option but what is the moral option. all these opinions-a side effect of freedom of speech and expression- can really be misleading. in every issue in human history there will always be those who are for it or against it.

if the US should want to pass a law that all men should kill themselves at 40yrs of age, believe me, there are those who will support it. dont be shocked. people opposed the US revolution, ending slavery, civil rights, women rights,  medicare, bank of england, even forming the federal govt. all these proposals were opposed by human beings with ''sound'' arguments including facts from the bible.

is it important, from our heart, to help people who cannot afford healthcare?
is it important, from our heart, to stop the insurance guys from denying treatment to people whom they are covering?

is it important, from our heart, to reduce healthcare cost? these are the issues. if the answer to these are yes, then there should be reform. but any reform without a public option will be a political display of the-more-you-look

finally, what is it in healthcare reform that gets special interests fighting hard for almost a century? from teddy roosevelt, to FDR, to Harry Truman, Kennedy,LBJ down to Bill Clinton and Obama. what scares special interests about healthcare.

even the conservative politician from UK has been chided by the conservative party here for running down the NHS.
the british are happy with their NHS, though it aint perfect, and the British are healthier than the Americans.

even though i disagree with you, for once i see a post in which u are trying to make sense. in anycase next yr the the US congress will gleefully return to the republicans and by 20I2 that idiot will be out of the white house.

at least the republicans know how to use political capital. once elected, they do what they want to do. it will be like the I860s-I933 when the republican party dominated the US for almost 70yrs except for grover cleveland and woodrow wilson(who was a white supremacist looking more like the republicans who put him in power)

if u read down this thread, you'll ntice that despite the thread title, the thread went on to be a thread discussing healthcare. so whatever sentiments i made about obama was not about cash for clunkers, whatever that is, i dont care, but about healthcare reform in which obama, became soo delusional that he is following the lead of the republicans who seem to be running the reform now. . . .and will still vote against it. . . even if obama allows everything they suggest . . . and that is damn stupid.

if by now obama is yet to realise that the republican party will never vote for anything then he is a big fool. decieving only himself.
look at senator grassly whom he praised for bypartisanship, turning around within 24hrs to talk of fear and death panel. and yet this stupid president is talking about bipartisanship.

it is time for the democrats in congress to do whatever they want to do and let the american people judge them in next yr election. but to bend to republican shenanigans and yet get no republican vote is so damn stupid

so let the healthcare reform fail, and let the democrats loose the next election, and let the people kick out that idiot from the oval office in 20I2, and let the republicans rule for the next 40-I00yrs uninterrupted, fight any war they like, reduce taxes, do nothing for the poor class . . .the religious wing use God to justify everything . . the same way their ancestors used the Bible to justify slavery, segregation and suppression of women.

it all works in my favour b/c i'm in the health care field and if things go well with my dissertation, i'll be in virginia by december/january and in 2 yrs i'll be practicing in the US and in 5yrs i'll be earning more money than i could be earning in any other part of the world, reduced taxes, smiles all around . . and things end happily ever after

i think i have evidence that perhaps those guys are not operating under the power of God. because when those guys endorsed old john (at least parsley didnt withdraw his endorsement, and lots of others endorsed old john even from the pulpit) and old john lost the election . . . does it not show that those guys were not operating under the influence of God?

b/c if God was the one who sent them to endorse old john, old john would definitely have won, b/c God is a Winner . .all the time.

one day we will know

perhaps you can forward that question to attorney general Eric Holder wink
PoliticsRe: Sleeping Under Bridge In Miami! by preselect(m): 9:22pm On Aug 14, 2009
no, he would live in a big house in the suburbs , away from children . . america is big enough . . there are houses that can be isolated in the suburbs and at least 20miles from any other house that may have a child . . i saw some comfy house in a ''jungle'' the last time i went to ohio . . it was a distance from the gate to the front door. . . this guy is rich. . . and there was no other house near it . . rich guys can afford that and perhaps if their son has such a problem they will put him there, comfortable and yet in tune with the law . . .

so u see . . .with real wealth . . . you can never be under a bridge . . not even in florida wink
PoliticsRe: Sleeping Under Bridge In Miami! by preselect(m): 9:12pm On Aug 14, 2009
crime, drugs, teenage pregnancy, homelessness, violence, etc are all linked directly or indirectly to one word . . . poverty. if the president's son was a child molester and he is released he wont be under a bridge.

i understand why they cant get a home in a normal neighbourhood but again we have a situation where a human being is under the bridge and the word poverty cannot be removed from the picture . . no matter what.
Foreign AffairsRe: Healthcare Debate And The Religious Right: What Would Jesus Do? by preselect(op): 9:02pm On Aug 14, 2009
i'm so baffled by how those guys combine God and guns . . . . i just wonder
PoliticsRe: Sleeping Under Bridge In Miami! by preselect(m): 9:01pm On Aug 14, 2009
there is no sympathy for child offenders . . . but at the same time there is no support for life under a bridge. either way, there is a problem that will impact the society negatively. because you dont learn mathematics or religion under bridges. you can only learn more bad things. and for people who are already vulnerable to crime. . . . being ex-child molesters . . that is double disaster.

if there was available funds, those guys will not be under a bridge. so lack of money . . . also known as poverty, contributed to their being under a bridge. period. cool although poverty in florida is not the same as poverty in ijebu ode

this is what happens when a nation ignores its youth. . . . . how many nigerians are trapped in death row in fishy countries? . . . .

when the youth are abandoned . . . . emigration . . . illegal immigrants . . . . dirty jobs . . . . prison . . . etc . . etc . . etc
Foreign AffairsRe: Cash For What?. . . by preselect(m): 6:43pm On Aug 14, 2009
@jesoul

No network is perfect but i think ABC,CNN etc can lay claim to some objective reporting.

MSNBC is obviously left sided and that is understandable (note that morning joe is a republican and it reflects on his shows which lasts 3 hrs everyday on MSNBC)

FOX NEWS on the other hand is a disgrace. i understand their right leaning views . . . but when they present bill clinton's humanitarian role in the release of those girls from north korea as something evil says a lot about fox news. they have presenters which miseducate people about the president being racist. some say obama is trying to get some reparation for african americans whose ancestors were slaves. . . some outragous programmes on fox.

glenn beck is a poison brand and just like o'reilly's rhetorics debatably led some maniac to assasinate a man in a church. . . . these poisonous tolls from fox news and rush limbaugh has led to a rise in white supremacist militias.

they can criticise obama without being vile. for God's sake, obama has a million stuff in his administration to criticise, but when they play to the ignorant base and spread toxic information, it ignites or attempts to ignite some dangerously looming ethnic bomb waiting to explode

i've been wondering, with all these talk about healthcare reform, with all the vibe about the uninsured, access to good healthcare for all, etc. . . there is a deafening silence from the men of god in the evangelical right.

these are people who wont waste a second to condemn gays and lesbians(understandably) , condenm democratic presidential candidates, claim holiness etc . . . but why are they not showing concern for those poor and underprivileged members of the society who cant afford healthcare.

where are the rick warrens, the paisleys, the hagees etc . . where are these guys? many wont waste a minute to show themselves helping some poor africans in some war torn 3rd world country but are astonishingly silent in this heated debate that concerns poor americans and indeed even middle class americans who think they have healthcare coverage. . . .

can someone educate me on what i dont know. with all humility . . i'm ready to be educated on the evangelical perspective of the healthcare debate

if those guys are criminals then they should be locked up. if they've served their terms then they should be re-integrated into society . . that is what happens when people are released from jails. if they are likely to get back to their offence then a new law should be made to lock up child offenders for life.

because i dont see any sense in keeping them under the bridge where they will be converted from sex offender to armed robbers . . . . unless there is something i dont understand
