Once upon a time I used to be anti-american. I bought into the hype and criticisms of all the other nations pointing accusing fingers at the US. Until I grew up and realized that America is the convenient bucket in which much of the world likes to throw in the blame all too often without looking at themselves in the mirror first. Which country on the face of the planet goes around doing humanitarian deeds out of the goodness of their hearts? which country doesn't serve its own selfish intrests? The same sins they accuse America of, they are also guilty of such and worse. I acknowledge the many many faults of America, but I still think she's done a lotta good in the world (even while profiting herself) that is oftentimes ignored, while the ignorers stand pointing accusing fingers without doing anything to help themselves.
Yeah there's a study out showing a sharp rise in anti-govt militia groups on US soil. No one can deny racism is still a driving factor in some people hatred towards the present administration. However I would like to think its a small minority, I don't think these "tensions" are anything more than just a small blimp on the radar.
i agree with u here to an extent. but let me say this, america's primary goal as far as foreign policy is concerned, is their selfish interest. if they do some good in the process, then all well and good, if not, they'll do it anyway. but i dont complain, they have done some good in the process. and which country is better anyway?
Foreign AffairsRe: Cash For What?. . . by preselect(m): 4:53am On Aug 13, 2009
on the contrary i think america is a great country. imagine what a town hall in sokoto will be if one mr okeke were the president of nigeria? so i understand those guys.

when u hear ''give me back my america'' in a healthcare townhall, a man brings a gun at a townhall for healthcare which the president is coming and has a sign saying . . ''it is time to water the tree of liberty'' . . a famous statement from thomas jefferson which in full is . . ''the tree of liberty is watered from time to time with the blood of tyrants and patriots'' . . . only tayo d will believe this guy came to discuss healthcare.

a swastica sign in a democratic congressmans' office in georgia, north carolina democratic congressman reports to capitol hill police about death threats, lies about death panel . . . . where is the health debate?

sometimes i secretly wish obama will loose re-election so that the racial tension in america being unable to face a black president will go down. . . . . . . . but that will be cowardice . . . . and i'm no coward cool b/c my life is hid with Christ in God cool . . . Therefore . . nothing de happen . . . Obama carry go cool

Foreign AffairsRe: Cash For What?. . . by preselect(m): 9:45pm On Aug 12, 2009
i think obama wanted congress to develop a bill and pass it b4 august. he did not send a bill to them. this has a lot of history behind it.

the US govt has always wanted to reform healthcare since teddy roosevelt in the I900s,
FDR tried in the I940S but failed,
harry truman tried it in the late I940s and early I950s but failed
pres Kennedy/LBJ tried in the 60s, but failed, LBJ managed to get medicare/medicaid in the 60s amidst great controversies . . . . a programme enjoyed today by many of the protesters.

in the I970s President Nixon tried but failed. instead he ended up getting the HMOs which are they culprits in todays major health complaints

president clinton tried again in the I990s but again, he failed.

apart from president teddy roosevelt, most of these other presidents who tried to reform health care had one thing in common, they failed b/c the republican party opposed reform. and their failures started with first delaying the bill, and then killing it off. this is a great strategy in destroying bills. note that it was used effectively to delay civil rights bills and anti segregation bills, women's rights bills, black vote bills etc all were delayed and ''killed'' by republicans in the senate at various times until president LBJ used his ''agboro'' technigues to get them passed in the 60s

so i guess obama wanted to beat them in the game this time around but sorry, he lost, they have delayed it, and now they will kill it. i doubt obama will get a real health reform.

what the US needs is a system that will cover everybody
nobody with an illness will be denied insurance
premiums will be affordable
HMOs power and greed will be cut

i doubt if these will be achieved. and if not, then pity all poor americans. they will live in a country with the best health facilities in the world, but if they get really ill, they wont benefit from these health facilities.

i dont see a rush in a reform that has been in the plan before we were born (inless u were born b4 teddy roosevelt became president in I90I grin)

it took real ''politiking'' by LBJ to get the civil rights bill passed. people said why the rush etc. yet he did it b/c it has been in the works for nearly 20yrs and republicans kept blocking it even when a republican president (eissenhower) wanted it passed. they are at it again.

but real republicans who are concerned about cost are drowned in this mess. the rioters block their chances of a real debate.

i am a man of peace smiley meanwhile, that kiss u sent me in that other post, i enjoyed it soooo much. it's been a loooong time grin

anyway, finally someone is interested in talking health care. now that u have seen the light, i want to let u know that there are intelligent republicans out there who have good ideas. only the limbaughs and pallins wont let them speak up. they are drwoned in the ignorance of the loudest bomboclaats like pallin grin . . . . making it look like the republican party is a party of hoodlums.

truth is, there is no healthcare bill. are u shocked shocked , that is the truth. obama wanted congress to pass a bill by august but congress decided to delay it so they can go to their constituencies to discuss with their people . . . . . the same people who dont want to discuss grin grin

however, there are proposals, in the houseof rep, a different one in the senate. infact there are many proposals in the house grin . . . . no bill yet. . . .but until i see poeple coming out in their numbers to support the attempt to reform healthcare, i wont add to the debate . . . .i'm out lipsrsealed

the healthcare debate has been blocked by touts from the right. intentionally. but if the democrats like, let them fail this, they will be in the cold for another 20yrs.

obama should end this stupid bipartisanship he always talks about.

these people opposed medicare in the 60s, LBJ bullied his way into the bill

these people opposed civil rights bill in the 60s, LBJ again bullied his way and signed the bill.

these people are here again . . but there are no LBJs in washington to do the job
Foreign AffairsRe: Cash For What?. . . by preselect(m): 8:11pm On Aug 11, 2009
@tayo,
i'm really baffled by how u argue these days.

first of all, you so easily resort to name calling. just this little disagreement now u have already branded me jaundiced. i also noticed you calling someone ayatollah olodo in another thread i was reading. but just know that nobody can lay claim to a monopoly of incivility.

who did you say beat up the guy with the gun? i told u i saw a guy with a gun protesting healthcare in obama's new hamshire townhall. i had told u the people who beat somebody are touts, same with the mobs who would drown debates and wont let congressmen/women talk in townhalls.

another came with a bible. in a healthcare debate. sarah palin, your hero/heroine, creating panic with a death panel. people talking about abortion fraud, etc . . . is this how to debate health care. i just watched senator mckaaskill(spelling?) of missouri, it was just a disruption.

this is a woman who took the trouble to take online guestions from opponents of the bill and came to answer them face-face. some thugs out there wont let her speak. is this how to debate? is this democracy?

and now you, tayo d, perhaps u have joined the mob, i'm afraid, but the ease with which u resort to name calling, is just appalling.

there is no health care debate

Foreign AffairsRe: Cash For What?. . . by preselect(m): 5:39pm On Aug 11, 2009
well i think it is the mobsters who invade town halls with intentional and unitensional ignorance to obstruct debate that are leading to the violence. i just watched a guy on tv who came with protest signs and was holding a gun by the side of his pants. he is calm though, just holding his gun and has a sign saying something about watering his freedom . . . . with a gun . . . . in a healthcare debate townhall . . . grin

another person came with a bible grin

madam sarah preaches about death panel grin

some preach the fear of obama grin

we're really having some debate there grin grin grin
Foreign AffairsRe: Is This Justice? by preselect(m): 5:33pm On Aug 11, 2009
@tayo D

i really expected that you'll throw urself into this debate without name calling. what with the ayatolaa olodo names for ikomi? this thread was already hot via davidylanikomic astral eruption but you should not have added gas to the eruption. and u very much campaign against name calling.

i didnt expect that from you

@ikomi & david

just throw out ur points without fighting. this thread will be more interesting

oh, is that mayo clinic in minnesota? wow, it is very popular in medical circles. i knew about it even from nigeria. wow, but i hear minnesota is so damn cold. almost like canada. is it true?

well tayo u know i abhor violence regardless of who is doing it. and violence is not part of the debate. this goes to show that all the town hall brouhaha may not really be about healthcare at all. as for the real healthcare debate . . . i'm out sad
