Answer to your questions 1. With the present constitution, GEJ has the right to appoint the inec chairman.

I never Said the president has no power to appoint the INEC Boss, but on what system is he coming to operate on?
You and i can see it is begining to look as if he is gonna operate on the same old system tht corrupted someone like IWU. Since you said we have to wait eternity for NAAS to pass into law the new bill.

2. We practice a constitution of separation of powers. GEJ has no authority to tell the NASS how to go about its job. His ball stops at the court of sending a bill to the house.
Look at the FOI bill, what happened to it? To amend the constitution, you need 2/3 majority in the NASS, 2/3 in the state house of assembly in 2/3 of the states.

Sorry i beg to disagree with you here, unless the same politics play in other part of the word are not the same we play in Nigerian. In as much as the president has no Authourity over the NAAS, i still believe he can push forward the bill through his party members, knowing how important and urgent the bill is for Nigerians our democracy. Oh Please dont tell me that PDP has no 2/3 house majority they need to push foward a bill that came from a PDP president. Not even an electoral reform bill that an average opposition party would want it be implimented immediately. So am sitting here wondering why you think NAAS need a decade to pass the bill, while some useless motions as their own allowances are passed in a week.

I am not saying that your concerns are not in order but that since we know the way they play, we can surprise them at their game.
Lol .This is very funny, well am waiting and watching the outcome of the whole thing and you are gonnan beat PDP at this their game they knows bes.

A whiteman will suffer to save up $ 20k and bring it down to help the poor in Africa. An African will have a million dollar, he will use it to buy watches for other millioniers like him who will never value it. Cameroon is rated as one of the most poor country in the world, yet Eto found pleasure in buying wrist watch of $1.3m to his fellow millioniers.

E nice:

@princekevo, are you that pessimistic? Don't you know that when the head of a fish is rotten, there is no remedy to the fish? Look at institutions that have excelled (nafdac-akunyili, debt management-mrs obiageli, finance ministry-mrs iweala, etc.) We had people before these guys and the laws governing these institutions were not changed. In countries that practice the presidential system of government, who appoints the electoral chair? With the electoral laws we have now, any credible, strong willed and patriotic nigerian can conduct a free and fair election. Take the case of Ekiti rerun, if mrs Ayoka had cancelled or ordered a rerun of ifaki/ido osi wards, would there have been issues? As i said earlier, what we need is a strong willed, credible, and patriotic electoral chair who can tell whoever, whenever to go to hell

At the end you could not answer the few questions i put up above. Why do we always do things through the short cut, and the wrong way, but expect the same result of doing it the normal way. My question to you now is, was there anything wrong with the formal electoral system before Yaradua decided to reform the entire system? Why has this not yet been approved, and why are we in a haste to appoint a new INEC Chief when the new process he is supposed to follow is being toyed with by the NAAS.
Another important question you refused to answer is who was Prof. Iwu before we made him INEC chaiman.

Man, this is not abt being pessimistic or whatever but abt doing things the right if we will ever achieve any good result. We can not keep on doing thesame, expecting to achive a different result. It is impossible.
Politics / Re: What Kind Of Man Is Prof. Jega? by princekevo(m): 9:51am On Jun 09, 2010
@ poster

Ask you yourself what kind of man was prof. Iwu before his appointment as the INEC chairman and who was he during and after he left the position. Who cares to know what kind of man he is, when we know that a new wine can never be put in an old bottle, together with an old wine. I don't need tell you the outcome when you make such mistake.

I don't know when Nigerians shall learn their lesson. Jonathan knows and accepted that the head of INEC was not the problem, but the system. I guess that was why they initiated for an electoral reform. I expected him to lobby and push the NAAS to pass the new electoral reform bill ASAP, knowing we have less than a year before election. Instead he is in a haste appointing a new INEC Chairman. A wise person would ask, is the head of the electoral body more important than the body itself? why has this bill not yet been reviewed by the NAAS, and the president kept quite over it? Are they Ignorant of the limited time we have for the 2011 election? You and i knows the answer to these question.

America's health care bill was a good example of a president who want things done. Obama was going from state to state campaigning and lobbying for the bill to be passed, becoz he understood the importance of it to his government. What kind of people do we have as presidents in that country?

I don't know why people waste their time trying to know who the INEC chairman is. Even if he is an angel, how can he produce a good result with the same electoral system that made it easy for PDP to still hijack people's vote.
Am surprised many still believe in PDP doing anything right which definitely will end their evil era. Until that electoral reform is being passed by NAAS and implemented, i shall see PDP taking us for fools again to Hijack our votes come 2011.

Nigeria is developing country it will take decades to reach that point you have described, developing countries need to create ideas, innovate ideas .You are still painting the picture of certificates to us.India is a country with 1billion people,The educational system there is better than that of Nigeria. They have a stem that encourages skill.student go to school for just 3 hrs because of the population ,they have 3 batches of students.what they learn in 3hrs is not what the Nigeria secondary student that left at 8 and closes at 2 will learn.even with all the certificates in Nigeria, foreigners dominate everywhere, Oil,telecoms, even An home grown company dangote is powered by indians.

So are we to blame the people for the Nigerian system of education? Are we to discourage them not to go for certificates, being what Nigerian employer's value most? Are we to dismiss the importance of acquiring certain level of professional skills before working, jst becoz Nigerian Education is flawed?

How can a state governement start mining minerals in a village without considering first the effect of it in the life of the community. Only God knows how many people dies in ND community as a result of Crude oil related diseases.
Not as if the community benefit from these mineral resources they are dying for.
Politics / Nigeria Lead Poisoning: 'hundreds' Could Die by princekevo(m): 12:37pm On Jun 08, 2010
Hundreds more children could die of lead poisoning in northern Nigeria, a decontamination expert says, but officials have downplayed the fears.
Some 163 people - mostly children - have died in recent weeks after villagers started digging for gold in areas with high concentrations of lead.

Twenty-five children from the village have been hospitalised with another 80 set for treatment in the coming days.

Richard Fuller, from the Blacksmith Institute, which is trying to clean up the villages, told the BBC's Focus on Africa programme that hundreds of children have tested with high levels of lead "that are likely to lead to them dying in the near future".

He said that children were more vulnerable to lead poisoning than adults.

But Zamfara State Director of Public Health Sa'adu Idris told the BBC that such fears were wrong.

He said that only one clinical death from lead poisoning had been recorded over the past three weeks, with the other deaths occurring earlier on.

He also assured that the villages would be cleaned up within the next four weeks.

However, the operation to dig up the top 5cm (2in) of soil in the remote village of Yar'Gailma has been delayed until Tuesday because bad roads have delayed the heavy machinery, officials say.

The contaminated soil is to be replaced with clean earth.

The BBC's Haruna Shehu Tangaza in Zamfara State says that houses in the village will not be demolished - their floors are to be covered in cement to protect residents from lead poisoning.

Correspondents say the Zamfara state government is facing criticism that they were slow to notice the toxic pollution.

Last week, the spokesman for the local government denied to journalists that any lead poisoning had occurred at all.

Health authorities have set up two camps in the area to treat people who are suffering the symptoms of lead poisoning.

Some families are believed to have taken crushed rock ore into their homes.
In their attempts to extract gold, deadly amounts of lead were released - it is thought that soil containing lead deposits was dumped in water sources and in places where children played.
The deaths were discovered during the country's annual immunisation programme, when officials realised there were virtually no children in several villages.

Villagers said the children had died of malaria and it was only when a team from international aid agency Medecins Sans Frontiers took blood tests from local people that the high concentrations of lead were discovered.

Zamfara State had recently employed a Chinese company to mine gold in the area, adds our correspondent.

But villagers had also attempted to capitalise by digging for the precious metal themselves - an illegal activity in Nigeria.

Some fear the contamination could spread during the rainy season which has just begun, if heavy rains wash the lead into new areas.

Poster, I think you are just talking of your limited experience about what obtains here in the UK.  You cannot generalise like that.

My colleagues in health schools across UK, over 30% have a PhD, some 55%  an MSc so you can imagine how many have a BSc. I am talking of people in health schools at Oxbridge, Imperial College and University of Lodon (UCL, GKT, Queen Mary, Saint George's).

Things have changed here in the last decade. Certain areas are a lot more competitive and you have people who have reached the peak in othere careers switching. Recent economic crisis has made many people here in UK who missed out on uni (either because of the belief that you don't need to or didn't make the grade back then), has made them to return to uni.

A program on TV 3 years ago in the UK showed that Nigerians, the French followed by Indians spend the longest time at Uni in the UK. Because they they do longer and more degrees. It is widely seen as an achievement.

At the end, these well-trained nigerians both at home and abroad will turn out to be the only true resource Nigeria actually has. Forget about oil that will dry up or become irrelevant one day when the West a cheap enough alternative. Even the theory-trained people at home will be easier to teach practical if things fall in place.

Good point!! That is exactly the message i tried to pass accross to the poster. He jst gave us one example of his fren out of many. He did not even consider the possible negative effect of a nation where it's citizens chose to go for working expirience more than acquiring a professional skills.

No wonder the ruling ones keep holding the country under ransome, becoz they understood many Nigerian brains are filled with that of chicken. After more than one year of Obama as the president, with his credits on Health care reform, recovery from economic slump he inherited, creation of more than 500,000jobs, etc, Americans do not yet consider him as potention candidate for next election. Here we are voting in a man who jst took over office  merely 3months ago for another 4yrs.
Narrow minded Nigerians, is it not wise for us to examine first what he is gonna do within the one year in his hands before placing a whole 4years of Nigerian future in his hands?

If i ask the voters what he has done within these few months that made them think he worth giving more 4years, you will see confusion in them. The problem of Nigerians seems to be their inability to discern their political environment, as such giving themselves hope even from where there is no hope. PDP has shown us they have  got nothing to offer, yet we still believe Jonathan under PDP is gonna make any difference. I will still be here when you people will come back here cursing Jonathan and i will swear for the person, becoz the poor guy is not the problem but the party he found himself and the people around him. Am happy that Donald Duke finally decamped from this evil party. Let me see how Jonathan can win him under free and fair election, though i know nothing like free and fair election is gonna happen under PDP, coz they are evil.

Pa-Ken:

Thank you very much feasy1. I have gone through a lot of responses and I'm quite happy that we have spotted the loopholes in our educational system. It is now high time future employers desist from this craze about qualifications and start recruiting based on strengths, capabilities and technical know how a candidate will bring into an organization or establishment. I have already started in my own little way.

My brother, in as much as i agree with in some point i will disagree with you in some .

1. The systems in Nigeria and UK shall never be the same.

2. The education system are not the same, for example, In UK they have Vocation schools where some one can acquire formal vocational skills that qualifies him for some jobs without even going for tertiary institution. In Nigeria you need to learn from a road side mechanics or Carpenter to be skilled in such a jobs.

3. Nigerian employers value certificate more than the informal skill acquire. A graduate of mechanical engineer who can not even recognise wheel spanner if presented to him, will be a better candidate than someone who actually acquire the skills through informal training and got experience for the job. That is Nigerian system, you dont blame the people but the government that made it remain so.

Moreover i don't buy your idea of people going for experience first b4 education. That Nigerian certificate is worthless as a result of the educational is not enough reason to dismiss the importance of acquiring formal education/skills b4 working. You jst mention the good side of it, with few examples, but at the long run it is very dangerous for a nation like the one am living in now. Every one is fighting for experience to get a better job, non want to go to school anymore. A kid who started working at the age of 16 finds it difficult to subject him/herself to the lecturer. Their position at the companies  and fat account make them believe they have no need for more education or acquiring a certificate. We live in an Era that the kids of these days are being forced to go to school, even when their government encourages them with free education. Every one want a short cut to success, so don't think the Nigerian government provided that shortcut and the people refused to take advantage of it.

I had a manager back then who joined the company when he was 17 and acquired his university degree on ''2 days release per week''. He became a manager at 33. Having spent 13years with the company, he fully understands the job role. I do not believe that one can acquire all the skills you need in a job by spending so much time in school because when you leave school as a fresh graduate you'll still need on the job training to function effectively in your chosen role. I understand that our educational system does not help matters at all (ie incessant industrial actions and NYSC thing too which has lost it's purpose).

You are welcome back home my brother. Probably you were born abroad and lived all your life abroad. When you have you own kids in Nigerian try to bring them up in Nigeria and let them pass through Nigerian public educational system, probably, that will you an insight to you question.

You fren joined a company at the age of 17 in,UK , now i will ask you as an employer now in Nigeria if you will employ 17 year boy/girl who is not a graduate and without any expirience in your company? Are you gonna make the difference by employing them or do you still prefer a graduate?

You dont comapre your UK environment with that of Nigeria.

I believe your fren is right. The issue of infedelity in relationship cannot have a general Judgement, but individual.
To some it might be, while to some it might be not enough reason to kiss their relationship goodbye. So let you fren make the decsion bye herself. I think taganga is correct

Na wa for you.oo my guy. I think you have to check first what it means to be unemployed, before you and your finance minister start including pure water and Gala hawkers as being employed. I tell you most of those guys earn more than the amount you put there per month. So are we gonna count them as being employed?

Floribert Chebeya's body was discovered, partially clothed, on the back seat of his own car.

A BBC reporter says Mr Chebeya had received regular threats from police in the past, and had been ordered to meet the national police chief on Tuesday.

Rights group Amnesty International says oppression of activists in DR Congo is growing.

The BBC's Thomas Fessy in Kinshasa says condoms and traces of female hair were found in the car, and that Mr Chebeya's driver had gone missing.

Was it not jst last week we were all blaming china for not coming out openly to support South Korea on their sanction towards NK and condenming such act. I was one of the people who criticised NK for threathening the world peace and i blamed china for their position on that issue, which am sure you might also criticised them. So what makes this one different ? This issue of some country not openly condenming an evil act pepertrated by their allies, even when it is obvious of their crime against humanity is what threathen world's peace.

This is all about religion. Have you ever noticed why all these "aid" ships seem to come from nations with no ties with Israel? Even Turkey under Erdogan has suddenly gone conservative . . . the only reason they maintain "formal" ties with Israel is because without it they may as well forget about EU membership.

Thanks you said is a  formal ties, so Isreal should have respected that formal ties between them. Knowing Turkey will never committ any crime against them, which definitely threathens their EU membership.

Israel has said there is no need for an international inquiry into the incident, insisting its own will meet the "highest international standards".

The UN Human Rights Council (HRC) voted earlier to set up an investigation.

Please where do we get our informations? Do we have to go a long way to cover evil, how could 450 turkish ativist with 100's of European activist turned to terrorist gang. Killing 9 Turkish base on jst speculations is not justifiable. Ok lets assume they have no fault in this, Why have they refused internation investigation into the matter, or do they have anything to hide? Who are they to reject UN investigation into the matter?
