johnydon22: If it is true that they violated the state residential plan and was not an approved structure then the government was right to pull it down.
It is time Nigerians start adhering to the stipulated laws of the state in their activities and not be crying foul that the country is not good when they are the ones doing it and making the cities look unplanned by encroaching into governmental space when building.
That it is a church building doesn't exempt it from being demolished once it goes against the guide or violated the state laws.
Nobody is exempted or should be accorded special treatment in the government ... True talk but was the government in sleep mode before, why wait till now before demolishing or could be that they want to use the debris for a special purpose being that of a church? I am just wondering. |

Op, I don't think your guy likes you as much as you do, he may have his reasons though. When I was dating my husband, we were three girls and I was the youngest and last to join the company. Typical of guys, he was maneuvering among three babes, they didn't know bout me but I knew about them and I tolerated them cos I knew they will soon be forgotten issues. Of course they later found out about me, one of them left honourably but one was stubborn. Just like your case, she was gone before, something like staging a comeback. My husband stood his ground that It was over. She threw tantrums and all but it really was over. He told her in my presence plainly that they were done.
Your guy is not being straight forward bout the whole thing, If he is that much into you, he should fight for you and not blame you unnecessarily. It is his show why get mummies and sisters involved? It simply means he isn't man enough to handle his affairs. If you ask me, I don't wanna be with that kinda man. |

coolzeal: A yoruba friend ask me: under what conditions would you support One Nigeria and let go of the Biafra struggle.
Here was my response:
1. Close down Lagos ports and Open up PH, Calabar, Onitsha and Warri. 2. Cancel all direct and major connecting flights to Lagos and Abuja airports...only local or minimal connecting flights will be allowed. While this is being done, open up Enugu, Owerri, Asaba, Uyo and PH to international flights...direct and major connecting flights. 3. Ask all international and diplomatic missions to move their embassies and consulates from Lagos and Abuja to Enugu, PH and Calabar. 4. All federal governments agencies in Lagos and Abuja shall be relocated to Enugu, PH and Calabar. CBN, NNPC,e.t.c shall and must relocate to PH, Calabar and Enugu. 5. All multinational companies in Lagos and Abuja, shall and must relocate their offices to PH, Calabar and Enugu. 6. If these conditions can be fulfilled and implemented, we can try one Nigeria and let's see if you Hausas and Yorubas will like it for a month. Meaning, Yorubas and Hausas needing to get visas shall travel to PH, Calabar or Enugu to do that. Same with flying or connecting flights, same with shipping and importing their goods, e.t.c.
The yoruba friend replied: you can't be serious, this is wickedness. I said really? Don't you think Biafrans have been suffering and enduring this very same wickedness for over 50 yrs? He was quiet for a few seconds and said: wow, you are right but it never occurred to me. I said, that's the problem with One Nigeria, those who are benefiting love it and would love to maintain the status quo. The Igbo people cannot clamour for and sustain a republic. Their garrulous nature won't let them. How far can this revolution go? It's already having K-leg even before take off. They can't even agree between themselves, na me be Ikwerre, na you be biafra . A kingdom divided against itself will fall surely. |

MadCow1: Lol..
I will point out some flaws or oversights in your post.
1. Teachers indeed do have their Kids and all worth not, however that does not mean they will immediately translate into good disciplinarian. I belong to the generation that grew up under this flogging culture. We got flogged for all sorts. For coming late, doing poorly on a test, improper dressing, speaking vanacular in school, not cutting our nails, fighting, e.t.c. Infact there were only about 4 forms of punishment in school and they go thus;
1. Flogging
2. Kneeling, squatting our some other form of painful and dehumnizing exercise.
3. Cutting grass
4. Suspension
5. Expulsion.
Flogging being the obvious choice for most. Well, I feel it's wrong. African kids are never given the chance to even explain why something is the way it is. Once the teacher sees something wrong, it's the cane that is the obvious solution. I went through junior school being scared for my life. That fear translated into my school work. It didn't matter how much I got flogged, I just could never pass some subjects that easily especially mathematics and how could I? When I am seated in a class with 50+ other students, being taught by a teacher who just breezes through the course like everyone learns at the same pace and then sets this ridiculous tests and expects us all to pass.
Imagine a case where 95% of the class flunked a test and we all got whipped for failing. Not a single blame was passed to the teacher.
Now in the Nigerian education system, what room has been created for students (like me) who suffer from one form of learning disability? My younger brother also suffers from an attention deficit disorder and was failing badly whilst in Nigeria until he moved overseas where his teachers spotted the problem. And they were only able to spot this problem because they were just a handful in the class. And when they did, they didn't correct it with a cane, they fashioned out a way to keep him learning and enjoying it. He told me of a teacher who would even let him leave the class for a bit and return to continue learning.
I was flogged like a thief by our music teacher because I kept missing the keys during music practice. Well guess what, the fhucking piano was made of wood built by a carpenter. The fhucking piano replica produced no sounds whatsoever. And then when I am called to play a note a fail, I get a ruler hit hard against my fingers. Our music teacher broke that wooden "made in Calabar" ruler against someone's fingers. Imagine the force required to break that ruler and wonder what that person who got struck felt. Needless to say, I hate music till this day..
2. Please drop this overseas gun crazed violence excuse. You can't sit here in Africa and fully grasp the problems with the U.S.. (Note, the gun violence in schools is mostly prevalent in the U.S and not the entire west). How many school shootings have you heard of in the U.K or in Canada or Australia or New Zealand or France or Netherlands, e.t.c.. The issue in the U.S is that the guns are just too fhucking many and the gun laws are lax. You can work into a Walmart and buy a gun like it was groceries. The children are also not protected from guns in the homes and some parents even start teaching their kids how to handle a weapon from a very early age.
But slow down a minute, don't we have gun issues in Nigerian School's? All these cultism issues in our tertiary institutions nko? Are those not the same kids raised under the stick you are clamouring for? So if the children we are raising with sticks still grow up to become hardened cultists that shoot people up, hack them to pieces and stuff, why then are we quick to point fingers at the U.S? Or because CNN no dey report our own?
So you see.. Flogging is not the solution.
Plus why does the only form of punishment used the most by teachers involves beating children with a stick? Can't we think of a less destructive means to punish erring students?
3. The Bible said spare the rod and Spoil the child.. Fine, the bible says a whole lot more and I will show you one amongst others;
Deut 21: 18 “If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and who, when they have chastened him, will not heed them, 19 then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his city. 20 And they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21 Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones; pso you shall put away the evil from among you, qand all Israel shall hear and fear.
I guess we should also start stoning our rebellious kids to death as well na.
Let's get serious, these are not biblical times. Child psychology has been studied and we know more today about kids than the Biblical era people ever did.
Again.. I am not against disciplining my child, but when it involves using a rod, let me the parent handle that. You can give the child detention, menial labour and other non contact forms of punishment, but let the parents take sole responsibility for whipping their kids. This is too simple an issue to allow to drag to and fro, let the parents who are all knowing, who know so much about child psychology handle the cognitive and psychomotor aspects as well. As if we didn't go to school. Throughout my years in school, I can count on my fingers the number of times I was beaten. All I am saying is teachers are not wicked as people are painting them to be. Av not finished, something needs my attention, will return shortly. |

Africa and Nigeria is filled with such colourful cultures that its almost a shame watching us get lost in other people's cultures letting ours slip down the drain and die a slow but painful death.
Its time we reconnected and preserved these rich cultures left by our fathers to us, it is our only identity in this world that distinguishes us from others and is very unique.

I don't want recount my ordeal I passed through in the hands of those teachers only for coming late and making noise in class. So you call late-coming and noise making ONLY? Little wonder you can't keep appointments and you rant endlessly. I don't know you but I think I know you now. Have you ever heard of the saying "By their fruits.....?" |
Celebrities › Re: Damilola Attoh: “Any Teacher That Touches My Son Will Face The Devil” by Princess4eva(f): 4:05am On Nov 04, 2015 |
MadCow1: After what I experienced in school, I have to agree with her.
Teachers should educate my kids, write reports on their performance both socially and academically to me (the Parents) and allow me handle the disciplinary aspect.
The truth is that most of these teachers are simply beasts. I remember how we had one teacher who flogged students like it was a sport. Whenever any teacher wanted to met out cruel and unusual punishment on a student, they always called Sir. P.
I remember how he was busy flogging an entire class for noise making and when it got to us guys, he flogged us and we didn't cry, flinch or act out like others, he decided to keep flogging us until we reacted. In the end, he broke some of our skins and blood started flowing and a friend ended up with a broken wrist.
Please, Teachers should teach.. Kids are not animals that should be raised with sticks. This fear tactics of raising kids may be part of the reasons for the lack of creativity amongst African children. Ever since my younger brother moved abroad, that shy, quiet and docile kid has come out of his shell. He is now more expressive and his character growth has improved. His academics are exceptional as well.
Its only in Africa that when a child fails a test, we flog the child instead of teaching the child.
In the Upper class schools in Nigeria where the kids of the rich and famous attend, this canning culture does not exist. Mostly Public schools and some yeye class private schools still do that bullshit.
NOTE::I am not against flogging or canning.. I am just against somebody else doing it to my kid without my direct supervision or specific consent. Are you sure this isn't over reacting? Teachers have their own kids too and won't want to kill another's child. Except a few reports of abuse cases here and there, you really can't say that is the norm. The overseas countries you are competing with seems to have lots of regrets now, not with incessant cases of gun crazed violent upsurges in schools. Is that what you wished for your offspring and our community? As for the actress who said that, she is little more than a child herself. Many parents these days should take parenting courses. The bible says: Spare the rod and Spoil the child......It never said "rodding" is the sole exclusive of the parents. We want to raise a responsible generation of children. Remember......Egba la fi ng yo were to di s'aya omode. |

Celebrities › Re: Desmond Elliot: Why I Hid My Yoruba Identity From Nollywood by Princess4eva(f): 5:50pm On Oct 23, 2015 |
Igbo people always insecure and paranoid over trivial things. Too conscious and over reacting, crying foul when actually there's nothing. I hate that many people always thought me to be Ibo when I am 100% Yoruba . Their reason? It's only Igbo girls who are capable of such beauty.
Whenever I tell them I am Onye Yoruba, they argue I am hiding my identity. One even advised I should get a cutlass and threaten my mum to reveal my real identity. Deep down in me, I am beginning to accept may be I look like them. Too many people who are meeting me newly almost always just conclude I am Ibo and their assumption is always based on the same reason. Yeah Igbo girls are beautiful but Yoruba girls are cuter. Some will say don't go out anyday Igbos are being killed. They would have finished you before they discover you are Yoruba. My point- I don't like igbos, too aggressive and lousy, would have preferred to look like a Hausa babe. They are too full of themselves.

I remember with nostalgia my teacher in Aje Methodist primary school, Sabo Yaba, primary 4, Mr Tunde Ogundimu. He also taught me in pry 5. He was a young man then, a bachelor who was still in school himself. His love and care for children surpassed that of a nursing mother. He had this big bucket - like container that he uses to make tea. He will go round and serve everyone. He never eats anything alone still I am yet to see any teacher as strict as he was. He ran the class like a company, everyone has responsibilties and without prompting we did our tasks. Anywhere you are Uncle Tunde, as we used to address him, may you find the favour of God.
I also acknowledge Mr Olaleye, his strategy of streamlining helped me to be able to read till today. God bless our teachers. |

I depended on family and my boyfriend then now my husband but I am not one to be comfortable not working or depending on people for survival. Even then, I do volunteer work for NGOs though it was not constant. Talking about being underemployed, I was for some time. The primary school where I taught were paying me 21k. The story has changed now. I earn a 6 digit salary still in the same establishment. My salary has improved, Yes! but my earnings don't all come from the salary. I do private tutorials, I do bead, I sell Jewellery, I sell shirts plus contract to do supplies. Lesson: Don't despise humble beginnings. Don't be afraid to start small. God bless your hustle. |

I've been dating my boyfriend for about a year now, long distance. Just reading your post and imagining if he comes up with a tale like yours how I will feel. The word is scattered. Not to talk of 6 years + introduction! That's a whole lot.
Have you thought that while she was still in a relationship with you, she must have seen her friends fall in love and get married. Have you spared a thought for her family? And all the inyanga she has done for her friends?
Bro, it ain't gonna be easy on both of you no matter how you look at it, esp her. Some people don't ever get to recover from such emotional and psychological trauma. Pls I beg you in the name of all that is true, don't put her in that mess.

#heaven at last Thank you for your contribution. Like you rightly said, she may never recover from the trauma should he walk away. @ Op, who furnished you with those tales of her escapades? For all you care those doubts may be unfounded, can you live with the fact that you helped destroy a life? Give it a second thought you may be making a mistake, plus that bit about 1million is irritating. She is your girl, talk to her. In every relationship, communication is key and from what we're able to deduce she has been understanding and co-operative. Tall and short is don't leave her based on these flimsy excuses. |

The dictionary can only help if you have a knowledge of the speech sounds and the stress pattern. If you can't match the symbols to the sound it produces, then you need an instructor. Apart from this, watch as many American or British movies as you can, ensure they come with subtitles so you can get each word as it's pronounced. Listen to foreign news too - BBC, CNN, Fox etc. I won't recommend any of our local news stations believe me you're better than some of them. Good luck to you in your quest to improve self. |
