The police in Osun say they have discovered the body of a 35-year-old man, Joseph Abifarin, after he allegedly killed his elder brother with a heavy stick in Iresi. The Police Public Relation Officer in the state, Mrs Folashade Odoro, announced this in a statement on Sunday. Odoro said the incident happened on Tuesday at about 10.00 a.m. “One Abifarin Opeyemi reported that her father, one Ayo Abifarin, 40, of Aros Compound, was murdered by his younger brother. “The younger brother used a heavy stick to hit him on his head. “When the incident happened, people tried to save Abifarin by rushing him to the hospital but he died on the way. “When the police went to arrest the culprit, he was, however, found dead in the pool of his own blood in his compound. “The dead bodies of the siblings had been moved by the police and deposited at the State General Hospital for an autopsy,’’ Odoro stated. She also said that the case was under investigation. Source; http://zenithhelm..nl/2017/05/35-year-old-man-kills-his-elder-brother.html

Coming after Sophia Momodu, Davido’s first baby mama was accused of coming after Davido’s second baby mama, Amanda in a Snapchat post thought to be a reply to Amanda’s post, the former has taken to social media to debunk the claim. It all started after Davido who is currently with his crew in Accra, Ghana, took a girl to his hotel room after his performance at a concert on Saturday. This apparently didn’t go down well with his Atlanta based babymama, Amanda, who then threw shade saying “Got a good girl…but hoes is his choice”. Amanda’s shade at Davido’s ‘hoes’ also didn’t go down well with the first babymama #SophieMomodu , who earlier claimed to be the president of the baby mama’s association . According to Sophia, those accusing her of coming after Amanda, live in hate and drama and that was why ‘some Canadian girls came and showed y’all pepper, destroyed homes and caused you so much pain”. She went further to disclose that the Canadian girls were able to achieve this because, they saw how bitter Nigerians could be. Former Big Brother Africa Housemate , Beverly Osu has finally had the time to respond to rumours that she is in a same sex relationship. The model who says she hardly responds to rumours as she’s way too busy for that has said the clips where she was pictured kissing another lady was from a video clip. She made this declaration in a new chat with Punch Newspapers. In her own words she said : “Ordinarily , I don ’ t even respond to things like this because I am way too busy for that. There are so many issues besetting this nation that we should be focused on instead of who Beverly kissed . If you must know though, the video I posted on Instagram was from a music video shoot . I have grown a thick skin towards these things . Many people would be commenting on issues that they don ’t have the facts of and I find that very laughable.” Source; http://www.legendvibes.com.ng/2017/05/beverly-osu-finally-responds-to-rumors.html

This is the moment a sea lion suddenly snatches a little girl from the edge of a pier and drags her into the waters. Her family gasped in fear as the sudden attack took place at the Steveston Fisherman's Wharf, Richmond B.C. Canada. Footage of the incident begins with bystanders happily watching the creature swimming around and laughing at its playful movements. At one point the sea lion jumps up towards a little girl sitting on the edge of the pier but laughs can be heard from those watching, clearly not expecting what was about to happen next. In a terrifying split second, the mammal leaps up, grabs the girl's white dress in his mouth and drags her backwards into the water, with her legs flapping in the air. As the child's family let out frightened screams, shouting "Oh my God," a full dressed man bravely dives in and takes hold of her, bringing her back to safety within seconds. Helped by relatives and bystanders, the two are pulled back up to the surface. Thankfully nobody was injured in the incident according to reports. Abdullahi Yunusa, a Security Guard on duty at female BOT hostel of the University of Maiduguri, Borno state has landed in a hospital after averting an attack by suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers. The young man who is being treated at the institution's clinic from injuries sustained in the process revealed how the attack on the female hostel was foiled... Speaking to Yerwa Express, Yunusa, said 'at about 11 pm in the night, we heard a heavy explosion not too long from our place, that is the one at ZEMA', adding that they were immediately alerted by the unusually loud sound. i 'Less than 20 minutes later, while trying to find out where the explosion occurred, we also noticed an unusual movement around where we were stationed'. 'Being on alert already, we paid attention to the movement. Suddenly, a man wearing a dark blue shirt and strangely barefooted emerged from behind the hostel. 'We were all startled, we lit torch at his direction to be sure that he was alone and ascertain the real situation. 'The vigilante on duty working with us shouted at him, asking him to stop and identify himself', Yunusa adds. The security further added that the suicide bomber could not respond sensibly, 'he kept responding: 'Afuno ba'', in Kanuri, meaning 'I don't understand Hausa', as he kept approaching them. 'The vigilante and hunter instantly fired at his direction when he sensed danger. The bomber who understood he was already trapped took to his heels and climbed the hostel's fence, as the vigilante tried to 'gun' him down'. 'We ran after him through the main entrance but we could not see him'. 'A student who saw him when he crossed the fence into the hostel while she was washing told us that he drank water from the bucket she was using and breezed away'. 'As we were convinced he was up to no good and possibly a suicide bomber, we went on a rigorous search and traced his footsteps when we discovered that he was hiding on top of a tree already inside the hostel'. On sighting him, Mr. Yunusa said that the vigilante tried to shoot him with his local hunter's gun. 'The bomber was daring us, saying that anyone who wants to die should come forward until the local gun hit him'. When he fell down from the tree, he was attempting to go into their midst to detonate the device strapped to his body to cause greater casualty. However, according to the security, the vigilante was able to shoot him at his back, causing the device to explode with him (the suicide bomber) only and injuring the five of them who are already receiving treatment at the university's clinic. Though according to the sources he came from behind the hostel, nobody was sure where he targeted. Less than 30 minutes before the hostel attack, two suicide bombers believed to be on the same mission, had also detonated explosive devices strapped to their bodies in the university at a separate location a little far removed from the campus and staff quarters The circumstance in which the first explosions went off is not clear but no casualty was reported. An artifact representing the goddess of fruitfulness, reluctantly released by Nupe people to the Niger state museum, and stolen some decades ago, has been found in Italy. Emmanuel Zhiri, executive director, Niger State Council for Arts and Culture, made this known to NAN in Minna on Thursday. “This artifact was found in Italy recently by the commissioner for information, Mr Jonathan Vatsa’’, Zhiri said. Zhiri added that it would cost the state a “huge fortune,” to retrieve it. He spoke on the sidelines of the 2017 commemoration of the world museum day with the theme: ‘Museum and Contested Histories: Saying the Unspeakable in Museums’. Zhiri said Niger state museum was one of the well-organised premier museums with experienced professional personnel. He said government was working seriously to expand the museum by bringing in more artifact to enrich the state’s museum. “We are working strategically to bringing in more artifacts to uphold our cultural heritage,” he said. “We have identified artifacts we are going to bring in, like the musical strings of the late Walo Shatan Gwari and late Nupe musicians’ musical strings used in the course of their musical career. “We are going to pay the custodians of these musical strings and bring them to the Niger state museum. “It is going to cost us about N2 million to bring them from the Niger Zone A, Zone B and Zone C.” Zhiri added that the essence of bringing such artifacts to Niger museum was to preserve the history and make it public to those who did not know such history. “People come in here to learn the history of different artifacts; we keep them safe for posterity. “Managers of museum strive a lot to bring in inherited artifacts from the people they were bequeathed to because they do not know the use as much as we do. “They do not know the significance of these artifacts. As far as they know, they are keeping them because they inherited them. That is how much most of them know.” Source; http://www.legendvibes.com.ng/2017/05/stolen-nigerian-artifact-found-in-italy.html

A robbery suspect, Chukwueke Kingsley, has told detectives attached to 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos State, that his greatest crime was in being in love with Navy to the extent that he had to pose as a naval officer. Kingsley was arrested along with Chidi Ibrahim and Alaba Akande. The suspects were arrested after Kingsley and Ibrahim allegedly used two motorbikes to block a victim, Pascal Ume Okafor’s car, along Ijora Bridge, Apapa, around 11pm and attempted to snatch it. The victim was driving a Toyota Corolla, 2005, when the men blocked him. Okafor said: “There were two of them. They were on two motorbikes. They used their motorcycles to block my car on the bridge. I asked why they blocked me; they said I hit a car. But it wasn’t true, I didn’t hit any car. Kingsley was in naval uniform, while Ibrahim was in camouflage. One of them touched me; it was like they used a charm on me. They asked for my phones and car key, I handed over everything to them. They also collected my N7,000. They would have left with all my property, but for the timely intervention of policemen.” The Zone 2 Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dolapo Badmus, said: “There was a heavy traffic jam on the bridge where they blocked and attempted to snatch the victim’s car. Kingsley wore a full naval uniform. Our men were on routine patrol when they sighted the suspects robbing the victim and rushed to the scene. They arrested Ibrahim, while Kingsley ran to the naval base and returned with two naval men. He wanted to cause trouble, but our men asked him to present his identity card. He said he has lost it. When he eventually brought it out, it was a fake.” According to Kingsley, he is a commercial motorcycle rider and plies Mile 2 and CSM. He said that he bought the naval uniform at Badagry and gave it to a tailor, Akande, to sew. He denied attempting to rob Okafor. He explained that he was trying to assist the victim, after the latter bashed a car. He said that the owner of the bashed car, wanted to collect N3000 from Okafor, but his intervention, using his naval uniform, saved the day. Kingsley added that he asked Okafor to settle him, but the victim said he didn’t have enough money on him. Kingsley said: “He said he didn’t have money. He asked me to search him. I made the mistake of searching him. When policemen came to the scene, he started shouting robbers.” Kingsley, who had original naval crest on his beret said it was given to him by a deceased naval officer, named Marcus Mighty. Ibrahim, who described himself as a former barber, said that he became a commercial motorbike rider to augment his income. He said he bought the camouflage Teeshirt and short in the market. He also said that his father is a retired soldier. Recalling the incident that led to his arrest, Ibrahim said that he didn’t rob Okafor. He explained that he was driving pass, when he noticed Kingsley and Okafor arguing. He stopped briefly to ask what was going on and was arrested. Akande also denied participating in the alleged robbery. According to him, he only sewed the uniform for Kingsley and was paid N500. Kingsley later brought another naval man called Williams, who brought naval uniforms and gave him a badge to fix on one of the uniforms. He was also paid N500 for that. This is very shameful. Imagine, a person who has been assigned to take care of others -can't even take properly care of himself. A security officer became a laughing stock after getting himself drunk while on duty.. The security officer was so drunk that he couldn't even stand on his feet as residents humiliated him by pouring him buckets of water to bring him back to his senses... Rather than being ashamed of himself, he cursed the residents shouting "Woe unto you".... See Photos Below; Source; http://www.legendvibes.com.ng/2017/05/drunk-security-officer-rolls-on-ground.html

https://i1.wp.com/s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/leadersandco/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/10234425/Erosion-spot-in-South-west-Nigeria.jpg The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has charged the Nigeria Erosion Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) to deploy innovative erosion control techniques and robust integration of flexible structures to tackle the menace of gully erosion in the state. Governor Bello gave the charge during the official launch of Kogi State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (KGSNEWMAP), which took place at Riverton Hotel in Lokoja recently. The governor said there is no disaster that can easily impoverish agrarian native societies like environmental disaster. He pointed out that unchecked gully erosion can wipe out farms and homes in just a few years turning landowning families into destitute and refuges, stressing that the agony and pains experienced by victims cannot be quantified in terms of loss of property and lives. Bello, who disclosed that eight gully erosion sites had been discovered across the Kogi state, charged the project to entrench preemptive measures designed to reduce the vulnerability of the target locations that has soil erosion and environmental degradation in the state. He listed the eight sites to include Ogane-Aji in Dekina Local Government Area (LGA); Etahi in Okene LGA; Ozuri in Adavi LGA; Ankpa in Ankpa LGA; Ugwolawo in Ofu LGA, and Omigbo River in Kabba -Bunu LGA. The governor said the severity of the soil erosion and other environmental disasters in the state formed the decision of the state government towards finding integrated and sustainable solutions to arrest and reverse the menace, disclosing that his administration has approved the release of another N100 million as counterpart funds to the project, and assuring stakeholders and listeners that government will continue to improve on its contributions to NEWMAP. He commended the federal government and the World Bank group for structuring and supporting the noble cause, saying the global apex bank has shown appreciable interest in helping Kogi state to develop. Earlier, the World Bank country director, Mr. Rachid Benmessaoud in his speech disclosed that over 2.5 billion people worldwide will be removed from poverty through the operations and activities of the NEWMAP project. He said the collaboration of Kogi state and the World Bank towards eradicating the menace of erosion would not be limited to eight sites only, assuring listeners and stakeholders at the event that sites would be added to tackle gully erosion in the state. Represented by the Task team leader of NEWMAP, Dr. Amos Abu, the country director revealed that besides fighting erosion, the organisation would provide capacity building and jobs for the people to improve their standard of living. According to him, the World Bank does not partner states who do not show high level of commitment, while he commended Kogi state government for prioritising the issue of environmental degradation in the state. |
