Igbere TV reports that Clcelebrity stylist Toyin Lawani took it all off on Thursday to celebrate 60 years of Nigeria’s independence.

Although she said the country is “nothing to write home about,” the mother of two said the people must keep hope alive.

“We will continue to strive and break boundaries internationally for our nation, open doors the government couldn’t open for us for the youths,” she wrote.

Describing herself as a “serial entrepreneur who runs 33 businesses under her roof,” Toyin said “Nigeria is no place to run a business and succeed easily.”

Politics / COVID19: Mascot Uzor Kalu Prays For Gov. Ikpeazu's Quick Recovery by Priscy01(f): 4:41am On Jun 11, 2020
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Mascot Uzor Kalu has expressed great shock and sadness over the unfortunate news of the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and other 67 Abia citizens which include some of the state executive council members being confirmed positive of Corona virus, Igbere TV reports.

Hon. Mascot who described the news as unfortunate, prayed for the speedy recovery of the Governor and all other Abia citizens positive of the virus (COVID 19).

"It is with great shock and sadness, I received the unfortunate news of the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu with some of his executive council members testing positive to Corona Virus. Most disheartening is the recent 67 new cases recorded in state which has automatically placed Abia as the second highest state in Southeast with Covid 19 cases despite all the measures put in place by the state to curtail the spread of the virus.

I specially send you my best wishes at this trying period in your life and that of your family and pray for your quick recovery. His Excellency be courageous and of high spirit, knowing fully well that God is with you and most Abians are looking up to you as their leader to draw hope and strength".

Politics / "7th Abia Assembly: One Year Of Impactful Service To The People” by Priscy01(f): 12:03pm On Jun 10, 2020
...The Journey So Far

By Promise Uzoma Okoro,

Preamble

"According to John Kenneth Galbraith, " All of the great leaders have had one characteristic in common: it was the willingness to confront unequivocally the major anxiety of their people in their time. This, and not much else, is the essence of leadership." While to Ralph Nader, "A leader has the vision and conviction that a dream can be achieved. He inspires the power and energy to get it done"

It is based on these great thoughts by these great minds that I want to discuss the uncommon feats of a seasoned Administrator who have redefined leadership in Abia State, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji the Peoples Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly and whose exploits since his inauguration as the 11th Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly on June 10th, 2019 indicates that the future of Abia State will be great all things being equal.

Having watched this enigma and his style of leadership since my appointment as one of his Aides, I simply came to the conclusion that Patrick Dodson had him in mind when he stated, "In a climate of uncertainty and fear, without strong and visionary leadership, people panic" as his inauguration was greeted with misgivings whether he will survive as the Speaker of one of the most vocal House of Assembly in Nigeria today but as a true leader he has proven beyond any doubt that he was curved for this leadership position.

INAUGURATION OF ABIA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY AND THE IMPRINTS OF RT.HON CHINEDUM ORJI

Today Wednesday 10th June 2020, the 7th Abia State House of Assembly will be completing her 1st Session, otherwise called the First Year in Office with massive results in all spheres of legislative concerns.

Inaugurated on Tuesday, June 10, 2019, by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, the 7th State House of Assembly unanimously elected the Member Representing Umuahia Central State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, as its 11th and Current Speaker and under his watch, the legislative arm of the state government has demonstrated an appreciable degree of competence and diligence in the discharge of its onerous functions.

In its stern resolve to make remarkable imprints on the sands of time and have its name on the history book as the best Abia State House of Assembly since the creation of the State in 1991, the 7th Assembly has served the state with due diligence and with a renewed sense of vigour for public good within the period under review.

HIS MISSION AND VISION:

Under the sterling leadership of Rt. Hon. Orji, legislative business in the state has remarkably improved with massive results in broadening the scope of existing laws and effectively enacting new legislations to cover emerging circumstances and regulate new development in our constant evolving society.

In his Inaugural address after being sworn in as the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, vowed to reposition the Legislative arm of the Abia State Government for optimal delivery. The Speaker maintained that the house under his watch will not allow anyone mess up the efforts and progress of the Executive arm of Government led by Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PhD.

It is on record that Abia State House of Assembly unlike what is obtainable some other States has for the past one year collaborated with the Executive arm of Government and passed relevant laws for delivery of dividends of democracy to the people of Abia State.

In his inaugural speech, Speaker Orji assured all Abians that the 7th Abia State House of Assembly under his watch shall be vibrant and result-oriented and this he has tried to ensure accordingly.

In his Words” We are the House of the people, by the people and for the people and we shall endeavour to make the people the centre-point of all our actions and decisions. We are therefore committed to the enactment of sound laws and legislations that will help in uplifting the lives and well-being of Ndi Abia.

‘’This 7th House shall provide very sound and strong oversight functions signifying that the era of disobeying Laws and Resolutions passed by the Abia State House of Assembly is over. Similarly, the era of non-implementation of directives and visions of the executive is over. Appropriate sanctions will be meted out to any official of the Abia State Government found not to be helping our Governor to actualize his visions for Abia State’’

‘’Our Major role in this House shall be the protection and preservation of the equity and justice already entrenched in the state and symbolized by the current Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu. I therefore call on all 5th columnists and agents of confusion to sheathe their swords and allow us to face the task before us. Let no one attempt to sow seeds of discord among us and between the Legislature and Executive. Any such attempts will be dead on arrival as it is not what we have come here to do’’.

The above words were not mere academic rhetorics as the Speaker marched his words with action.

His commitment has impacted positively on the lives of the good people of Abia state.

Rt Hon Chibedum Enyinnaya Orjis watchword is his vow to ensure that the current Abia State House of Assembly is adjudged as the best in the History of the State.

‘By the Time We Leave Office, I want this 7th Abia State House of Assembly to be adjudged as the best House of Assembly in the History of Abia State"

"I want also to be adjudged as the Best Speaker this Honourable House has ever Produced and I want my colleagues to be adjudged as the Best Lawmakers So Far".

HIS FEATS AND LEGISLATIVE BUSINESS:

The 7th Abia State House of Assembly during her First Sitting on the 17th June 2019 after its Inaugural Sitting held on the 10th of June 2019 Constituted a Committee headed by the Member Representing Ugwunagbo State Constituency Hon Munachim Alozie to Screen the 17 Caretaker Committee Chairmen and Deputies Nominated by the Governor of Abia State Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu to man the affairs of the local government councils.

The House in that First Sitting Screened and Confirmed Chief John Okiyi Kalu as a Commissioner in Abia State who was Reappointed by Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu as the Abia State Commissioner For Information.

After thorough scrutiny, the Chairmen and Deputies of the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State were confirmed through the committee's report.

Early passage of the 2020 Budget

Before now, the State appropriation bills were usually passed in the year succeeding its presentation, but under the First one Year of the Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji led 7th Assembly, the 2020 Budget Presented by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was given accelerated hearing and passage and subsequently Signed into Law by the Governor on the 24th of December 2019 for the good of Abians.

No wonder the Governor praised the House and stated ´ "I have been Governor for Four years now, but this is the first time we are signing the Appropriation Bill into Law by this Time’’

OVERSIGHT FUNCTIONS.

The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly Rt. Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, in his inaugural speech had assured that the house will through its Oversight Functions, help the Executive in the Discharge of her Duties.

No wonder the House on the 2nd of July 2019 during Plenary frowned at the inabilities of most Government Agencies/ Parastatals who generates revenues for themselves, get subventions from the Abia State government and still can't pay their workers as at when due.

Some of those agencies/parastatals looked into include; Abia State University, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Hospital Management Board, Abia State College of Health, Aba, College of Education ASEPA, ASPIMSS and other revenue generating agencies of the state.

The Majority Leader of the House Hon. Barr Solomon Akpulonu, had in a motion, prayed the house to set up an Adhoc Committee to look into the activities of those government institutions with a view of arresting the ugly situation posed by their underperformance.

After deliberation, the house set up and empowered the following adhoc committees to investigate the situation and make recommendation to the house for onward action.

ABIA STATE UNIVERSITY / COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AROCHUKWU.

Rt. Hon. Kennedy Njoku - Chairman.
Hon. Paul Taribo - Member.
Hon. Kelechi Onuzuruike - Member.
Mr. Emeka Otumchere - Secretary.

ABIA STATE POLYTECHNIC, ABA.

Hon. Jerry Uzosike - Chairman.
Hon. Chijioke Chukwu - Member.
Hon. Okey Igwe - Member.

Broadcasting Cooperation of Abia State (BCA).

Hon. Ginger Onwusibe - Chairman.
Hon. Chijioke Chukwu - Member.
(Other members to be communicated in due course).
Mr. Kingsley Alozie - Secretary.

Abians and indeed the general Public will attest to the fact that the timely intervention through a thorough oversight functions of the Abia State House of Assembly yielded Positive result which has made those agencies of the Abia State Government live up to its Responsibilities.

The Abia State House of Assembly under the able and dynamic Leadership of the outspoken and vibrant Speaker Rt. Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has also intervened in communal Clashes in Isu in Arochukwu Local Government Area with its neighboring community in Cross Rivers State.

The House also intervened on the issue of the Lokpanta quarry site which had been a subject of dispute between the people of Umunneochi in Abia state and their neighbouring community from Ebonyi state.

The House through her Oversight Functions also tackled the growing abandonment of housing estates in Abia state.

Hon. Stanely Nwabuisi who raised the motion had questioned the Public Private Partnership Policy of the state which has abandoned many estates in the state at various levels of completion. He stated while leading debate on the Motion that miscreants, drug dealers, kidnappers and other hoodlums now use most of these uncompleted buildings as hideouts which often pose serious security challenge. They Investigated and advised the Executive Accordingly.

EXECUTIVE/ LEGISLATIVE RELATIONSHIP.

The Current 7th Abia State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji has maintained a very cordial relationship with the Executive arm of Government led by Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.

All the Executive Bills are being given accelerated hearing, deliberation and passage in confirmation of the cordial relationship between the Executive and the Legislative arm of Government in Abia State.

"INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT.

It will be recalled that the Speaker Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji in his Inaugural Speech Promised that the 7th Abia State House of Assembly under his watch will have a befitting Legislative Chambers which will definitely reflect on the output of the legislative arm.

In His Words”
‘’In the course of my Membership of this Honourable House, I have had the privilege of working under 2 Lawyers as Speakers. Lawyers are known for doing justice to cases they are tasked with and it is my view that my 2 Lawyer predecessors did very well as Speakers. Now therefore, having tried lawyers, the mantle has fallen on an Engineer to lead this Honourable House and by training, Engineers are known for Designing and Building. Honourable colleagues, I will design and build for you all, a model House of legislative excellence and harmony that will set Abia State on an enviable pedestal’’

The Renovation of the Abia State House of Assembly with the approval of Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu is a pointer that more good things are on the way for the Abia State House of Assembly.

The Chambers of the Abia State House of Assembly if not the best in the entire South East and South South is definitely among the best in the entire Country.
There abounds other ongoing Projects at the Abia State House of Assembly Complex.

THE FUTURE AND THE WAY FORWARD:

Just as it is widely stated’ "You only have one first chance to make one first impression that lasts a lifetime."

Expectations are indeed high, but the most important thing is that the 7th Abia State House of Assembly has proven to be on course in the discharge of their Legislative Functions.

Hopes are high that as the House enters its Second Session in this 7th Republic, greater impacts shall be felt by the public through an improved and robust working relationship with other arms of government for the greater good of citizens and those living and doing business in Abia state.

CONCLUSION:

Let me conclude this treatise by quoting Robert S. Kaplan when he stated, "Without strong visionary leadership, no strategy will be executed effectively". Based on this quote, I can confidently affirm that based on some of the uncommon feats highlighted in this treatise that Speaker Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji has not only exhibited strong leadership but a visionary one indeed.

I am convinced that with more support both by members of the House, the Executive arm of Government and the good people of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji will prove that Abia State House of Assembly can be counted among the best in the annals of this country.

Politics / COVID-19: OMPAN Condemns Harassment Of Journalists, Calls For Palliatives by Priscy01(f): 9:01am On Apr 04, 2020
The Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN), has expressed concerns over the continued harassment of journalists on essential duty by security agencies.

The association made the condemnation in a statement signed by it National Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ismaila Y K, on Friday.

According to the statement, the journalist who are being harassed dared the odds to remain in the streets to report COVID-19 response across Nigeria in a selfless show of patriotism.

OMPAN further urged the federal and state governments to provide palliatives for journalists as they are the only other professionals standing side by side, and risking their lives together with health workers to spread hope.

The statement reads; “Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN) has noticed with dismay, the highhandedness of some security agencies who have been caught on tape manhandling journalists. The only crime committed by these journalists is that they dared the odds to remain in the streets to report COVID-19 response across Nigeria in a selfless show of patriotism.

“It is particularly shocking that instead of commendation, the Nigerian journalists are being battered in clear breach of their rights as professionals going about their national service.

“OMPAN calls on the heads of Nigerian security establishments to reign in their operatives. The journalist is supposed to be protected and not endengered.

“OMPAN will like to also use this opportunity to call on governments at all levels to put together a financial stimulus to support the vital work that journalists across Nigeria are doing, especially with respect to the coverage of COVID-19 response. It goes without saying that journalists are the only other professionals standing side by side, and risking their lives together with health workers to spread hope.

“This is the much government can do now, to show that it truly values the work of media men.”

Politics / Subscriber Group Seeks Ncc’s Collaboration To Strengthen Consumer Protection by Priscy01(f): 3:18pm On Mar 12, 2020
The Association of Telephone, Cable TV and Internet Subscribers (ATCIS) on Tuesday 10th March 2020) has assured of its readiness to collaborate with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to promote the rights, interests and welfare of the ever-growing telecoms subscribers in Nigeria.

Speaking through its President, Prince Sina Bilesanmi, at a meeting with NCC in Abuja, the group said that since one of the agenda of the Commission is promoting subscriber’s satisfaction, it was poised to advance a mutually-beneficial relationship with the Commission on all fronts, with respect to the protection of the over 185 million subscribers under its watch.

“We believe that working together, we will also bring the regulator closer to its core stakeholders (consumers) and make demands occasionally on behalf of the consumers. We believe this is a quicker way of getting to the regulator and to bridge the communication gap and promote co-operation,” said Bilesanmi.

Bilesanmi also appealed to NCC to try to reduce tariffs of data and voice services, and to ensure affordable and reliable Internet service for subscribers. The advocacy group also appeal to the Commission to ensure there is no automatic fix charge and non-charges for drop calls.

The group also request NCC to make MNOs to grant subscribers voice and data-free day every Independence Day (October 1) in Nigeria, as a way of appreciating the consumers, who are the important stakeholders of the telecoms industry.

Responding, the NCC said, though the demands brought forward by ATCIS to the Commission are multidimensional, it was ready to collaborate with any stakeholder that offer suggestions that may move the industry forward. He stressed that industry collaboration is part of the Commission’s 8-Point Agenda.

“We are all stakeholders and subscribers in the industry. Despite some challenges, we are always working with the operators to improve the quality of service,” said Hafsat Lawal, Deputy Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau, who led the NCC’s team to receive ATCIS delegation on behalf of the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Umar Danbatta.

Lawal also stressed that the issue of quality of service (QoS) is a function of many factors, some of which are environmental. For instance, it is doubtful if “any operator will deliberately wish its consumers experience poor network or drop call on its network because those issues will affect the revenue of the operator.”

The challenges, according to her, have to do with vandalism of telecom infrastructure and closure of base stations by communities where telecom installations such as base stations and fibre optic cables are sited or laid respectively.

Lawal also told the ATCIS that its request for collaboration will be conveyed to NCC Management for review and necessary action.

Politics / We Didn’t Arrest Any IPOB Member During Nnamdi Kanu’s Parents Burial – Police by Priscy01(f): 5:04pm On Feb 18, 2020
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Mr Ene Okon has insisted that no member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was arrested at the burial of Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife, Sally Kanu.

Dismissing the allegation in an Exclusive interview with ABN TV monitored by IGBERE TV, Mr. Okon described the development as another example of disinformation that has permeated the media space.

He added that although two people were arrested during the burial ceremony which was held on Friday, February 14, in Afaraukwu, Umuahia, Abia State, but there was no indication that they were members of IPOB.

“The two people arrested by the command were arrested over unlawful possession of pistol and other dangerous weapons,” the commissioner said.

He said; “The police only arrested two persons and it was not even near Afaraukwu, it was down there, those two persons were seen with guns, weapon two of them with pistol and everything.

“They did not wear any cloth like IPOB, nothing to prove their identity of being IPOB members and Emmanuel Kanu also confirmed that they are not IPOB members.

“So in essence police did not arrest IPOB member, because there through-out we did not know who was IPOB as everybody was in mufti, nobody wore IPOB uniform, nobody carry BIAFRA flag, no body carry IPOB signal, all that we know they were mourners and we were just standing.”

Religion / Insecurity: Christians In Akwa Ibom Ibom Storm The Streets With Placards (photos by Priscy01(f): 10:50am On Feb 02, 2020
Hundreds of Christians have stormed the streets of Akwa Ibom state for a peaceful protest against the incessant killings of mostly especially Christians, across the country.

The Christians, led by their spiritual leaders expressed their disgust over the many lives lost to attacks by suspected herdsmen across the country.

Igbere TV gathered that the protest was triggered days after Boko Haram executes the Chairman of CAN in Michika Local Government, Adamawa State, Pastor Lawan Andimi, who was abducted by the insurgents on January 3 and subsequently killed despite being offered a N50m ransom.

Some of the protesters displayed a placard with “Mr President Stop These Killings Please” written on them.

The Christians lamented the poor handling of the situation by the government and called on leaders especially at the centre to do their best to protect the people.

President Buhari had said on Tuesday, January 28, that he was surprised about the growing insecurity but that his administration would go ‘harder’ on bandits.

Politics / Youths Should Be Inspired By Hanan Buhari’s Use Of Presidential Jet – MURIC by Priscy01(f): 4:05pm On Jan 13, 2020
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has said that the use of a presidential jet by Hanan Buhari, daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari, should serve as an inspiration for young people, Igbere TV reports.

Hanan was flown to Bauchi last Thursday with the presidential jet to witness the durbar.

She was said to have been invited by the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Adamu, as a special guest of honour to capture the Durbar with her camera as a professional photographer.

Hanan’s use of the jet was widely criticised by many who say the jet should be restricted for official use.

However, MURIC in a statement on Monday by its director, Prof Ishaq Akintola, said the incident sent a strong message to the Nigerian girl-child.

“How private is private? Are we saying that the traditional institution is inconsequential? What happened to our respect for our norms and values? Are we to assume that our system no longer recognises the traditional institution? If so, why do governors still appoint emirs, obis and obas? If the law of the land still recognises traditional rulers, Hanan’s invitation to Bauchi cannot be rightly described as a private affair,” MURIC said.

“Besides, that function passed a strong message to Nigerian youths, especially the Nigerian girl-child. It poses a challenge to them to eschew laziness.

“More importantly, it underlines the significance and relevance of every aspect of human knowledge. This is a very important message wailers missed.”

The statement also said: “President Buhari should not be guillotined for permitting her daughter’s use of the jet. After all, it was not for any frivolous jamboree like shopping in Dubai. We may want to ignore the excesses of past landlords of Aso Rock to justify PMB’s action.

“It amounts to overzealousness on the part of critics to grab every little straw and make mountains out of molehills. They are simply trying to draw the attention of Nigerians away from PMB’s monumental achievements simply because they were merely looking for the president’s faults.”

Politics / Nigerians Raise Alarm Over Approval Of N37bn To Renovate National Assembly by Priscy01(f): 10:11am On Dec 18, 2019
The approval of N37 billion for the renovation of the National Assembly complex has raised dust among Nigerians on social media.

Igbere TV reports that the amount, which is included in the 2020 budget, is however not part of the N128 billion allocated for the National Assembly for next year.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan told journalists on Monday that the money is instead part of the 2020 budget of the Federal Capital Development Administration.

Lawan said there has been no major renovation of the National Assembly building for 20 years and many parts of the property had become dilapidated.

Concerned by this, Nigerians on Twitter have launched attacks at the government, decrying the high cost of renovating a building amid lingering bad roads, poor infrastructure, poor electricity supply among others.

Politics / APC Factional Rally: Steer Clear Of Edo - Youth Group Warns Oshiomhole by Priscy01(f): 11:15pm On Dec 12, 2019
The Edo Youth Vanguard (EYV) has advised the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to steer clear of Edo State and a rally scheduled for Friday, December 13, in Benin City, the state capital.

Igbere TV reports that EYV also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call the party’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, to order over his support for a rally that has the potential of creating crises and breaching the fragile peace in the state.

A faction of the party in the state which has the backing of Oshiomhole had fixed Friday for a rally to receive defectors into the party without the blessing of Governor Godwin Obaseki and the party’s state chairman, Anselm Ojezua.

Governor Obaseki travelled on Tuesday with President Buhari to Egypt on national assignment and they are expected to return on Friday.

In a statement issued in Benin by its president, Nosakhare Oseghale and secretary-general, Edward Ikhide, EYV questioned the rationale behind the proposed rally, stating that the timing and approach are not only wide of the mark but has sinister motives of eventually fomenting pandemonium to create an impression of anarchy in the state.

According to Oseghale and Ikhide, issues of public safety are hanging in the balance if the purported rally is allowed to take place, adding that available security reports clearly give credence to the apprehension that the political rally has sinister motives.

They said: “We are amused that some politicians are planning an ill-conceived political rally for Friday and it’s being done without the knowledge of the state’s chief security officer, Governor Godwin Obaseki, who is on a national assignment with President Muhammadu Buhari.

“More curious in the ill-timed proposed rally was the complete and deliberate neglect of the party’s state executive led by its chairman, Mr Anslem Ojezua. So, the question begging for answer is who is the Abuja team organizing the rally for?

“This is the yuletide season and there are already movements within and outside the state, why the desperation to pull down the fragile peace in our state just to prove that a deteriorating influence is still potent?

“For all intents and purposes, this planned rally is provocative and highly susceptible to violence. How can you guarantee the safety of Edo people in a rally where neither the state governor, who is the leader of the APC in Edo State nor other leaders of the party is aware of the purported declaration rally?”

“So I was sitting in this coffee shop in NY, and started talking to this old white lady. Turns out she was Married to the Military Administrator of the Midwest for Biafra during the Civil War. She lived in Benin and the East during the war.

She was one of the last people to escape after Biafra fell. They smuggled her and her kids out through Sao Tome and the CIA picked her up in the Netherlands.

She was also in Nigeria during the first coup and had so many stories to tell about its planning, execution and failures.

She told me how during the war, people were selling their kids for salt! And how they had to move every few weeks to avoid the advancing Nigerian Army.

Her husband didn't escape with her cos when the plane came they couldn't find him cos he was with his Girlfriend

This is why I love talking to strangers. The conversation started cos she was making fun of my Wharton shirt cis of Trump.

Just Googled her husband, and she's right. He was a Major in the Biafran army and a big deal.”

Politics / Omoyele Sowore's Rearrest: Buhari Knows That Nigerians Are Cowards by Priscy01(f): 10:29am On Dec 07, 2019
Sowore: Buhari Knows Nigerians Will Never Stand Up For Those That Stand Up For Them - Seun Kuti

Seun Kuti has reacted to Omoyele Sowore's rearrest at the Federal High Court in Abuja which led to an uproar yesterday December 6.

According to the music star, Buhari's biggest weapon is knowing that Nigerians will never stand up for those that stand up for them.

The son of Nigerian music legend Fela, recounted how same treatment was meted out to his father by Buhari when he was the military head of state. Seun Kuti said his father who had blood all over him was dragged through the streets while everyone watched.

Seun Kuti alleged that Nigerian professionals are Buhari's biggest accomplice as he pointed out that "Sowore is all of us without our shackles.

He wrote "They know the Nigerian professionals are their biggest accomplice. They know you have never gone on strike because poor people have no food, because u have food. You have never downed tools because poor people can’t go to school because u can afford school fees.

"You have never stopped yes sir for one second because innocent babies are dying by their thousands since u can afford private clinics for your kids ( some of u even employ the poor kids and nearly kill them yourselves). That’s why you can’t stand up and down tools for Sowore even after the courts of LAW that we all claim to obey has been spat on. I know the truth though cos the stigma of loving the African people is one I’m familiar with! How dare he?

"Who does he think he is?! Hmmmm. Let me tell u, Sowore is all of us without our shackles!!! This is our greatest opportunity to change this narrative. This is our biggest chance to insist on our dignity and our rights not just for Sowore but for our HUMANITY! Let’s change this narrative!! UNA GO RELEASE THIS ONE OOOO."

Politics / Army Rescues Octogenarian, Others From Boko Haram Terrorists (Photos) by Priscy01(f): 8:03am On Nov 17, 2019
The Nigerian Army troops deployed at Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno has subdued Boko Haram terrorists and rescued an Octogenarian, three women and four children held captives by the insurgents.

The Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator, Col. Aminu Iliyasu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

Iliyasu said that the rescued victims were evacuated while the children among them were equally administered with Polio Vaccination by a Nigerian Army medical team.

He added that no causality was recorded by the army troops during the commando operations.

According to him, many of the Boko Haram criminal elements fled in disarray towards the summit of Mandara Mountains with gunshot wounds.

Read the full statement below;
“In their reinvigorated drive to end the insurgency in the North East, Nigerian Army troops have continued to sustain the tempo of the ongoing Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency operations in the North East with a view to decimating and destroying the remnant Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa (ISWAP) criminals across the Operation LAFIYA DOLE Theatre.

“In one of the numerous operations conducted across the Theatre today, 16 November 2019, troops of 26 Task Force Brigade embarked on a Clearance Patrol to Dalu Village within the Mandara Mountains in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State following credible intelligence report on the presence of some of the criminal insurgents in that area.

“Fortunately, the report was confirmed as the troops soon established contact with the marauding terrorists and effectively subdued them with their superior fire power during the ensuing fire fight.

“Subsequently, the troops proceeded to thorough clear the Village of the presence of the criminal insurgents. The clearance operation yielded good dividends as the troops found and rescued an octogenarian, 3 women and 4 children hitherto held captives by the criminal insurgents.

“The rescued victims were promptly evacuated and children among them were equally administered with Polio Vaccination by a Nigerian Army medical team.

“Interestingly, no causality was recorded by own troops during the commando operations. However, many of the Boko Haram criminal elements were observed to have fled in disarray towards the summit of Mandara Mountains with gunshot wounds.

“The troops’ resilience and doggedness are unwavering as further exploitation to complete the annihilation of the insurgents is being sustained in the mountainous environment.

“The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai wishes to reassure the general public of the resolve of the Nigerian Army to continue to execute our constitutional mandate professionally and responsively for a better secured Nigeria.

“He also thanks all well-meaning Nigerians for their continued support, goodwill and understanding towards officers and men of the Nigerian Army as they sustain the conduct of various operations and routine exercises nationwide.

“You are kindly requested to disseminate above information to the general public for their awareness. Thank you for your usual cooperation.”

Celebrities / Busola Dakolo Vows To Appeal Judgement Dismissing Rape Suit Against Fatoyinbo by Priscy01(f): 3:31pm On Nov 14, 2019
Celebrity photographer, Busola Dakolo, says she will appeal the ruling of Justice Oathman Musa of a High Court of the FCT at Bwari, Abuja which dismissed her rape suit against the senior pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo.

Justice Musa, ruling on Thursday, said the matter amounted to injustice and an abuse of judicial process as the case was empty and purely sentimental, adding that the suit was aimed more at cruelty than obtaining justice.

The court also awarded costs of N1 million against Busola, wife of singer, Timi Dakolo, adding that the fine should have been 10 times more because the court’s time was wasted.

However, in a statement by her lawyers, Mrs Dakolo, wife of singer, Timi Dakolo, said she would appeal to a higher court.

“The court ruled that the matter is statute-barred because the events that crystallised to the cause of action took place 16 years ago and that the claimant Mrs. Busola Dakolo has only six years within which to seek redress in court in line with the statute of limitation,” the statement said.

“We are mindful of the decision as delivered by the court, presided over by the Hon. Justice A.O Musa. We are equally observant of the fact that the Court omitted to address the cause of action, the subject matter of the suit in determining whether it has jurisdiction to entertain the said matter.

“While we acknowledge the time of the court, we know in accordance with the Nigerian judicial system that the Court’s decision is not final as it is glaringly contestable.

“For all intent and purposes, having seen several sponsored misleading news reports in the media, we are duty-bound to state that the court has not and did not exonerate Biodun Fatoyinbo. As it stands, the substance of the matter has not received any judicial attention.

“Biodun Fatoyinbo through his lawyers have only argued that the court should not allow the matter to proceed to trial because it is an event that occurred long ago and hence out of time.

“We shall therefore in this circumstance approach a superior court to intervene for a better appreciation, and take a more expansive view of the suit considering that the subject matter is one that is novel in our clime.”
