A friend of the abducted Leah Sharibu, Aisha Kachalla, has said that she cries whenever she remembers her friend.

Fox Meek recall that Kachalla was part of 110 Daphchi school girls who were kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents in February 2018.

While she and several others have been released, the insurgents have held back Leah since then.

Kachalla told NAN on Wednesday that she still has hope that Leah is alive.

“I often cry when I remember my friend Leah. I don’t know where she is. I don’t believe she is dead because there is no proof of her death. Her corpse has not appeared in any television station or newspaper,” Kachalla said.

Leah’s mother, Rebecca Sharibu, pleaded with the Federal Government to intensify efforts towards her daughter’s release from Boko Haram captivity.

“I still plead with Federal Government, organisations and individuals to intensify efforts for the release of my daughter, Leah, who has been in the hands of insurgents for one year and five months,” she said.

Secretary of Dapchi Abducted School Girls Parents Association, Kachalla Bukar, said the association would not relent in its effort to ensure that Leah is released.

Romance / “Christians Aren't Meant to feel Period,Labour Pains Because Christ Took It Away by Priscy01(f): 5:46am On Jul 31, 2019
A South African woman known for being an outspoken Christian on Twitter has shared a controversial tweet that's led to a debate.

Nikki Shange, who refers to herself as "daughter of the Rabbi" made this statement while reacting to a question about labour pains.

Twitter user Linda Mtoba asked her followers: "How sore is natural birth? Like honestly and realistically."

And Nikki replied: "It’s not sore at all unless you’re still under the curse of Adam. We are now under the blessing not the curse. Christ came and reconciled us to The Father and removed sin and all things that come from sin. So if you still get period pains or labour pains, it’s your choice to."

Igbere TV reports that web users criticized her logic but she stood her ground and wrote again: "Pain came because of the fall of Adam. And sin came because of that. But we thank The Father for sending us His Son to die for us. To reconcile us back to Him. We thank God for the covenant of Grace which has set us free from the curse. We are now under the blessing."

Politics / What Is Going On At Senate Is Ministerial Toasting Not Screening – Reno Omokri by Priscy01(f): 3:40pm On Jul 26, 2019
A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has criticised the ‘take a bow’ tradition of the Senate as the upper legislative chambers screens the ministerial nominees.

The immediate past Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on Friday joined 16 other ministerial nominees out of 22 who have been endorsed by the Senate without questioning, Igbere TV reports.

Sirika was asked to ‘take a bow’ and leave for being a former senator from Katsina State.

The term ‘take a bow’ is reserved for nominees who are former members of the National Assembly, allowing them to simply bow before the lawmakers and leave without being questioned, Igbere TV reports.

Mr Omokri, in a tweet on Friday, described the exercise as ‘ministerial toasting’.

“What is going on at the @NGRSenate is NOT ministerial SCREENING. It is ministerial TOASTING. It is an insult to RUBBER STAMPS to call the LAWAN led National Assembly a RUBBER STAMP. A RUBBER STAMP at least leaves an IMPRESSION. All this Senate leaves is a DEPRESSION,” he said.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has also extended the ‘take a bow’ privilege to former members of state assemblies and women.

Since the screening began on Wednesday, only five ministerial nominees have been questioned – Abubakar Malami, Ogbonnaya Onu, Uche Ogah, Niyi Adebayo, and Sunday Dare.

Politics / Benjamin Uwajumogu Protests At INEC Office, Demands His Certificate Of Return by Priscy01(f): 4:25am On Jul 23, 2019
Benjamin Uwajumogu, senator-elect of Imo north, has led some protesters to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters over non-issuance of certificate of return to him.

INEC earlier had to set up a committee to look into various allegations of misconduct after Uwajumogu was declared winner.

Uwajumogu challenged the decision, saying that the electoral body is only “using the excuse of committee to deny” him the certificate he ought to have received, Igbere TV reports.

A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Friday, July 5, ordered that INEC must issue the senator-elect his certificate, a decision the body failed to comply with, Igbere TV reports.

While addressing newsmen on Monday, July 22, the senator wondered why a committee had to be set up after he had been declared a winner.

He said: “Some of them that have been given certificates did not have to go through any committee before they were given.

“Why is my own going through this process? Why is INEC using the excuse of the committee to deny us our certificate of return when a court has given an order?

“We are asking INEC to produce that certificate of return and they must produce it and we asking them to produce it to forestall a breakdown of law and order.”

It was earlier reported that INEC said that it suspended all further proceedings and actions in the Imo north senatorial election.

The development was announced by the electoral body on Tuesday, April 16, via a statement signed by Mallam Mohammed Haruna who is the national commissioner and member of INEC information and voter education committee.

Crime / High School Teacher Arraigned For Damaging Student's Eye While Flogging by Priscy01(f): 4:01pm On Jul 22, 2019
A report by Igbere TV says the 33-year-old secondary school teacher in Lagos, Dare Olaleye, has been arraigned at an Ogba Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly flogging a 16-year-old senior secondary school student and injuring his right eye.

Mr Olaleye, a resident of 22 Kokumo Street, County Bus Stop, Ogba, Lagos, denied a charge of assault on his arraignment on Monday.

Police prosecutor, Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the teacher committed the offence on March 29 between 11 am and 1 pm at Camp David Academy located at 7 Bodunrin Caulcrick Close, Ogba, Lagos.

Emuerhi said the teacher was supervising examinations at the school and had requested that SS1 and SS2 students leave the hall before the commencement of their examination.

“The defendant alleged that the complainant, Daniel Agboola an SS1 student, had hit him while leaving the hall and Olaleye canned the student as punishment.

“While the teacher was caning Agboola, the cane hit him in his right eye, leading to a serious injury which required surgery,” he said.

The prosecution said the alleged offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat granted the teacher bail in the sum of N50, 000 with a surety in like sum.

Sule-Amzat adjourned the case until October 21 for mention.

A columnist with The Punch, Abimbola Adelakun, has been released after she was briefly held up for questioning by security agents on Sunday at the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) in Abuja, Igbere TV reports.

Adelakun had published a column at the back page of Punch newspapers on July 4 with the title “What Does Mrs. Fatoyinbo Know”.

The article, which examined the rape allegations against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, was illustrated with the cartoon of a man desecrating the bible with urine.

Fatoyinbo was recently accused of rape by Busola, wife of singer Timi Dakolo.

The cartoon was greeted with backlash from readers, ultimately leading to the firing of the editor of the paper’s daily title, Martin Ayankola.

Adelakun, who said she was at the church on Sunday in furtherance of her research on Pentecostal churches, said she was pulled out of the church by the church’s security men, who recognised her, and made her to stay in “one place where they were keeping everybody that they suspected.”

The columnist said the security agents refused her demand to leave, adding that she had reported the incident to a police station in Abuja.

Tweeting later on Sunday, she said: “I’m aware of the info abt my arrest at COZA today. I wasn’t arrested. Earlier, I sent out an image because I was concerned when pulled aside by the protocol dept for questioning. Thanks to everyone who has been concerned about me. The Story Of MONSURAT TOYIN IGBIRA, The Most Notorious Drug Baroness In Africa
https://www.nairaland.com/4221967/story-monsurat-toyin-igbira-most#up

Texxtile merchant, Monsurat Asabi, popularly known in the Nigerian social circuit as Toyin Igbira, has died of ovarian cancer, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV learnt that she was aged 56.

The mother of three reportedly passed on in the early hours of Saturday at a private hospital in Surulere, Lagos.

A toast of Fuji musicians, Igbira was a school dropout who later became a drug dealer.

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested her in 1999 at the age of 36 after years of extensive undercover anti-narcotic operations.

She was arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on a two-count charge of unlawfully dealing in 5 kg of heroin and sentenced to two years in prison.

Igbira was re-arrested at the Lagos airport in 2002 with 72 wraps of a substance suspected to be heroin.

An official of the NDLEA said she had evaded arrest for previous drug trafficking offences.

“Igbira was about to board a plane to the United States when she was arrested,” an NDLEA spokesperson said.

He said the woman, who had been on the drug agency’s wanted list since 1997, excreted 72 wraps of suspected heroin weighing 675g.

“This particular arrest led to chains of arrests that unravel the most notorious drug cartel,” he added.

Many drug couriers have named her as the source of their wares.

She was declared wanted in 2007 after one Mohammed Jamiu was arrested during the screening of passengers on a Virgin Nigeria flight from Lagos to London at the Lagos airport while attempting to export cocaine which he ingested.

Jamiu claimed during interrogation that the substance he ingested was given to him by Igbira who was then at large.

Sources said Igbira was diagnosed with ovarian cancer almost 10 years ago and her search for cure took her to hospitals in Europe and America.

She went into partial remission but suffered a relapse last year, prompting doctors to predict she may not live beyond February 2019.

Vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, will celebrate his birthday on Friday at the presidential election tribunal in Abuja, Igbere TV reports.

This is a departure from the former Anambra State governor’s tradition of celebrating with school children.

His special adviser on media, Valentine Obienyem, disclosed this while speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday after the sitting of the tribunal.

In Obienyem’s words, “As you can see, Obi has been in court fighting for the restoration of the Atiku-Obi stolen mandate. Since they are closing their defence today, he will be in court and is already feeling the pains of missing his annual ritual of celebrating with students.”
