Health / Re: Segun Arinze: Doreen Hospital Refused To Treat Unconscious Accident Victim by Profayo: 1:51pm On Feb 21, 2018
It's painful when things like this happen, the question I ask is what if it was my relative that needed urgent medical attention and an hospital refused to help because the individual he has no money, how will I feel?
However I won't judge the hospital because of some cogent reasons:
1.The patient doesn't look unconscious, for all we care the individual there could just be drunk.
2.We are only seeing pictures,we don't know what the staff of the hospital saw and they refused to attend to him.For all we care, they could have taken a brief history from him and suspected LASSA fever,as such, decided to step back because in Nigeria of today if you die serving your country,na your family go suffer am.
3.Alot of patients come to the hospital, after getting well, they refuse to pay the bills, abeg how many celebrities do go to hospitals to clear bills for those unable to pay,I am not talking of giving them tissue papers and get well soon card during Christmas and new year o?
If the hospital had been less prudent with their finaces, they would have gone bankrupt and their won't be an hospital there in the first place.
Way forward:The government should provide efficient health insurance scheme, not the present one that can only cater for cheap drugs and minor surgeries, then the hospitals will be assured that their bills will always be paid.

DeKen:
These doctors and scorning/mockery of other medical practitioners.

The society regards doctors more than their affiliates. It's a 3rd world country syndrome where some professions are considered superior to others and some professions are looked down on. Why won't everyone want to be one revered and respected by all.

And the doctors feel they are more important than the others in the medical profession. No matter the academic attainment, the doctors feel threatened about the demand of other medical practitioners to be addressed as consultants. No matter the services rendered the doctors feel that other medical practitioners should not earn like them. It may be the reason you see lots of bitter nurses in the public hospitals as the major competition is between nurses and doctors.

Don't blame them. Blame the system.

This does not answer the question oo

Hello great guys
I know this is not the right thread for this message but the thread has gone into extinction
Please I registered for IELTS myself and get an email confirmation. I received every details to pay and I complied with it. I saw pay through bank transfer and I transferred the money to their account at standard chartered directly which I received alert. But I have not heard of any confirmation from them. Hope I have not wasted 68k just like that.I reminded them with about 4 emails and I just saw today that my test is cancelled. They never responded to any of emails
Please need your advice great mind

From people's experience on this thread, it is better to pay by bank draft. The solution is to go to the nearest british council office to complain

Long anticipated IELTS result out.First attempt
R-9
L-8.5
W-7
S-7
It will be unfair if I fail to share my story as I have gained a lot from this forum.
1.Make sure you have someone that have written IELTS,whether they pass or not, they have important tips that can give the extra marks you need.
2.Belong to a good online IELTS forum.
3.IELTS is a serious exam, your preparation must be detailed. Going through this thread from page 1 to 50 will really help.
4.Concerning the common question about the duration of preparation,it varies. But to be candid, for the average student expecting a minimum score of 7 and above in all sections, you need a minimum of two weeks preparation which will barely be enough. To be on the safe side, pls prepare for minimum of a month.
5.SPEAKING:This is a tricky one, the best way to prepare is to find a speaking partner that will critique your speaking.
6.READING:This is the best place to score cheap marks as all the answers you need are supplied already. All you have to do is practice untill you keep scoring 39/40 consistently.Initially,I was stuck at 36/40 untill I learnt how to tackle my weaknesses. There are some question types that gives people problems, what I did was to trace my score pattern in both reading and listening and as expected I discovered I lost more marks in particular segments,so I searched online for how best to tackle this type of questions:
For T/F/NG,if you have issues with this, pls go and download IELTS LIZ video on it and do the exercises on T/F/NG on IELTS LIZ, you will have testimonies.
For summary of paragraphs, after trying many methods, I discovered the method that suits me is to read each paragraph then look at the options to pick the appropriate heading.
For which of the following paragraph contains the following information, I discovered the best method for me is to read the whole essay before answering the questions.
For those that scored 8.5 and above in reading,I spoke with some of them, one thing common to all of them is that they can finish reading any essay within 7 minutes maximum and answer the questions in another 5-7 minutes.I practiced untill I could achieve this.In my exam, I had 26 minutes left when I got to the third essay.
LISTENING:this is another section you can score 8 and above.
When I analyzed my result patterns during my practice, I noticed section 3 was where I usually lose more marks.Guess what is peculiar to section 3?There are multiple speakers and the questions are MCQs so by the time am still struggling to answer one question, the speakers would have moved three questions ahead, what I did to solve this was to read at least a question ahead so that by the time I can't find answer to a particular question, I wouldn't miss the next question and immediately the speakers moves to the next question, I move with them.
I also hate maps, unfortunately I got a map in my listening, am sure that's what accounted for my 8.5 rather than 9.Still yet to find a solution.
Writing:its adviseable to start with task 2 on exam day, it carries double the mark of task 1.

BONUS:For those about to start prep for IELTS, I strongly recommend EDX, it a free IELTS online tutorial organized by University of Queensland Australia, am still shocked that people don't know about it yet. To get the best out of the tutorial go to www.edx.com using google chrome or download their app.
My recommendations:
Writing - Ryan task 2
Simon task 1
Speaking - Makkar

Finally,pray well.

Someone claimed that *Biscuit bone* is *Brisket bone*, in my usual curious self, I decided to consult my best friend...google.
I found out there is nothing like *Brisket bone*.
Infact Brisket is a cut of meat from the breast or lower chest of beef. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brisket
The bone known as biscuit bone was probably named so because of the soft nature of the bone.
Education / Unfolding The Den Of Geniuses - The Ife Medical Students Association Quiz Club by Profayo: 1:42pm On Jun 09, 2017
Many stories of heroes are left untold, many people do the extraordinary yet they remain relatively unknown. Many organizations and groups exist some for profit, some for socials, some for the spiritual and others for the development of academic giants. Over the years, the best from various secondary schools in Nigeria have made studying medicine their prime target, eventually some make it into the medical school and there the real struggle begins,a typical medical students class consists of students whose IQ are in the upper limits of the society, many with amazing abilities ranging from those with eidetic memories,to those who can finish a thousand page textbook in a matter of few hours tho those with great oratory prowess and those who never comes to class yet keeps spanking the marks. However am writing about another group of medical students in arguably the best University in Nigeria who have made themselves distinct by going beyond the classroom to establish themselves as Nigeria's best and brightest...I hereby introduce the IFE MEDICAL STUDENTS ASSOCIATION QUIZ CLUB(IFUMSA QUIZ CLUB)
THE PAST:
The club have over the years proven to be the best in Nigeria evidenced by their performances in various inter-medical schools competition in Nigeria, the club can boast of numerous alumni who are consultants in various fields of medicine and surgery both within and outside the country. In the last three years, they have been among the top three in 80% competitions they have been to. Some of their best performances includes but not limited to
1.Third position at the Emeritus Prof.O.O Akinkugbe(CON) biennial inter-medical schools competition at UCH in 2015
2. Second Position, Prof. Babatunde Solagberu intercollegiate competition at Lagos state college of medicine in 2015
3.First Position Professor Odesanmi intercollegiate competition at Obafemi Awolowo University in 2016
4.First Position Prof.Ojuawo intercollegiate competition at University of Ilorin in 2016
THE PRESENT:
The club has continued to grow in leaps and bounds, some of their more recent performances are
1.Second position,Intercollegiate competition at Olabsisi Onabanjo University in 2016
2.Second position, intercollegiate competition at Backbock university in 2016
3. First Position at the intercollegiate competition at Bowen in 2017
4. Final of the Emeritus Prof.O.O Akinkugbe(CON) biennial inter-medical schools competition at UCH in 2017,the final will be contested between OAU and UI later this year.
THE FUTURE:
Due to their excellent performances at various national competitions, the club has been invited to participate in the international contest of medical knowledge(CICOM) 2017 in Mexico in November however the participation of this great club is threatened by lack of funds. The members of the club are ready to make the country proud at the international stage, and they have reached out to various prominent individuals, the ministry of health, ministry of works, power and housing,Ministry of Education,NNPC,PTDF via their websites and emails, however no response has been received so far probably because most emails soliciting for funds are scams and people tend not to reply.
In conclusion,I will call on all Nigerians to watch out in the next few months, IFUMSA quiz club will take the world by storm.Wishper it albeit quietly a Nigerian University will be the best medical school in the world... hopefully someone will sponsor the trip to Mexico.
