Dr Bosun Tijani was a major critic of Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu before he became a minister. His tweets in which he insulted both men, senators and other government officials were resurrected during his Senate confirmation hearings. Some APC supporters have not forgiven him for his past comments.

Dr Tijani was also a major critic of his predecessor, Professor Ali Isa Pantami and he has had a running battle with Professor Pantami's supporters since he was appointed.

In particular, Dr Tijani criticised Professor Pantami when Pantami launched the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), but Dr Tijani has recently announced the launch of the same centre.
