Politics / Re: If Your Are The President Of Nigeria How Exactly Will You Fight Unemployment by prost80(m): 12:19am On Aug 05, 2022
cocolacec:
1. Bring in investors to create a stable power supply.

2.Give incentives to Nigerians who will produce what we consume(full scale industrialisation). We need to be the economic power house of Africa.

3. Create a welfare policy and plan for poor Nigerians. We will start with children in the first 4 years.

4.All artisans must get licensing fees and retrained by govt specialized agencies.

5. We will create a job Centres in every local govt to match Jobs with skills, retrain and counsel Nigerians.

6.Educational centers need to be upgraded to World standards. We will create a trust funds well meaning Nigerians can donate to find community projects.

7.Youths between the ages of 18-30 years must go on compulsory one year military training.

8.Students in all institutions of learning shall be requested to come up with innovations every year. The “theme” of such innovations will vary from Year to Year.

9.Ensure security of lives and properties. Each region shall have a forum where they meet to discuss challenges facing them and profer possible solutions every month.

I will only comment one 1 & 2 and then if i have time on the others

1. This is a no brainer but it will be impossible to do, because of the following. Firstly from the point of view of the investor, no investor will want to come into Nigeria, with a history of policy flipflops, the price of electricity is not cost reflective , coupled with the laws of generating, transmitting and distributing are no not streamlined. The kind of investors one is talking about are the GE & Siemens type, as they are ones with the financial muscles for this. From the point of view of the populace, they have gotten high bills from NEPA(PHCN) with no corresponding power being given, coupled with that is that the purchasing power of the populace has been eroded by the gross mismanagement of the Buhari administration. So there are no likeable solutions neither are they easy.
However, the first we must safeguard is the investor. Nigeria does not have the amount of money needed to upscale the power gradually so people can feel it, besides there is a gulf of mistrust from the citizenry. Another option is to Borrow but we all have that past bad results and this will likely not be an easy sell neither will it sail through
ONLY SOMEONE WHO HAS ENOUGH POLITICAL CAPITAL CAN PULL THIS OFF. SOMEONE PEOPLE CAN TURST. PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO TAKE SOME PAIN BUT WHEN THEY SEE THE LEADERSHIP NOT TAKING THE SAME OR GREATER PAIN THEN YOU ARE AT A LOSS, WHICH IS WHY I BELIEVE THE LIKES OF TINUBU AND ATIKU CANNOT CHANGE THE COUNTRY BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY POLITICAL CAPITAL . IF THEY ENTER AND TRY IT , PEOPLE WILL RESIST ANY INCREASE IN PRICE IN ELECTRICITY E BECAUSE THEY SEE THEM LIVING LIKE KINGS(THEY DONT WANT TO FEEL ANY PAIN) AND THEY WANT EVERYBODY ELSE TO PICK/FEEL THE PAIN, BUT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO DO SAME (CUT THE COST OF GOVERNANCE). LEADESHIP IS BY EXAMPLE NOT COMMAND. PEOPLE SIMPLY DO NOT TRUST THEM. i AM NOT SOLD ON OBI BUT , WE ARE SEEING PEOPLE HAVE HOPE IN HIM AND THAT IS SOMETHING ONE CANNOT BUY.
I wrote the above in capital because that is the starting point. the following is needed: First we need to make laws that make it possible for states or regions(I believe we should go back 6 regions) to generate, transmit and distribute without going to the national grid. Also we have to accept that fingers are not equal. Some places will get electricity running quicker than others, places where investors know they can get huge ROI because it is a risk to invest in a junk status country like Nigeria. SO places like Lagos, P/H, Abuja, Abeokuta/Otta might see investments first. Government must be willing to allow this. We must give the investors free hand, like GE or Siemens, so they have control of the whole value chain form generating to distributing to homes, with cost reflective prices . If more pipelines need to be built in these places so be it. So to facilitate this, you must have a one-stop shop for this. call it whatever , but this place must be run like a Project Management Office (PMO) and they have the ears of the president.

Which brings me back to another thing. Anyone who enters that has political capital, should be quick. Fully deregulate the fuel and electricity and the subsidy pour into something people can feel, more on that later. Such a person should be priming the people, and once he has his cabinet(not like Buhari after 6 months, but any serious person, should form his cabinet within 7 to 14 days, for they must hit the ground running). deregulate quickly, say one month after taking power.

A serious government would have had discussions before entering office, but it wont be easy!!!

2. The solution is to restructure. If anyone is not considering restructure to move us to a producing country, then please dont waste peoples time. The current system does not reward or incentivize innovation. Most of the states in Nigeria are not doing anything, and are not viable, and so the states that can be productive -their wealth is being shared with others that do not do anything and do not want to exploit their human and natural resources. This cannot be. In my opinion we need to restructure Nigeria into 6 regions/development centers (in other of economic strength and innovation -SW, SS, SE, NW, NC, NE)and the areas that produce more will get most of their wealth back-revenues. That way you are rewarding hardwork and discouraging laziness. The regions that dont have enough to stand like NC, NE.government should assist them by investing this areas-and they must look for what they can produce on a industrial scale).

Also we must learn to think. Agriculture is good, but if we want to drag people from poverty , Technology/Manufacturing is the way forward. Take a look at the whole west africa, we are all into agriculture( let us leave subsistence farming for other African countries-let the place like NW-mechanize their agriculture), what we really need is to focus on Tech and manufacturing (from cars, tractors, shoes, equipment, agro-processing)-we are the largest English speaking country in Africa, and we are located at the trigger of Africa on the map. Our foreign policy is too docile, we just follow the west and do not court others , if the west want our support then we will only trade it with huge financial inputs, else we stay neutral and court others- This conflict is a gold mine, to play your cards to both the west and china/Russia axis. This is what even the Saudis and Indians are doing but our docile Buhari criticized Russia and for what? his continued medical tourism to the UK? For us to really crack tech and manufacturing, part of the subsidy removal money should flow into our educational institutions & to support our industries. Each tech/manufacturing facilities should be tied to an institution of higher learning(they will be the problem solvers for the industries operational problems)-This must be done on purpose. We have a diaspora of unparalleled intelligence, our embassies should earn their money and invite them., maybe have then visit Nigeria and give us directions, once they see we are serious , they could pioneer new industries.

We need to professionalize/train and standardize our artisans, this should be part of the subsidy removal money. our mechanics, police, builders, welders, plumbers- so they are do things faster and with super quality, (good soup na money cause am). We ,then, have to protect our industries and people. Dangote is building a refinery and importing foreigners, indians, that should not be so, no matter how rich billionaires indians are in their country they cannot bring low paid foreigners to work in their country, Why are we allowing dangote and others do such? I can go on. I have a write up on this, and can share

You don't need proof of address at POE, except things have changed. Yes you can use a friends address, but your SIN(social insurance number) will probably have that address on as well as bank, telephone etc until you have your own permanent address. they just google the address to e sure it exists cos the plan is to send your PR card there

Hello, I have done soft landing, I am asking about processing driving license in Alberta as I am coming fully now. Can I use my statement sent to my address as proof of address for driving license

I will advice you land first, get settled and invite them over.

Processing time depends on alot of factors such as: number of applications received at that period, how fast your information are verifiable and other things.

I am just going for soft landing for now

Hello All,

I am a PPR holder and want to apply for a visitor Visa for my parents. Which is the best online or paper? I am guessing online. Also which form should one fill the schedule 1 imm5257 or the other imm5257?

Lastly how long does it take?

I am not keen on supervise for parents , we prefer TRV, as they can have a 5yrs multiple entry as I dont see my parents staying more than 6montha at a go

I am leaving for Canada by next month for a soft landing.
Is it advisable to apply now or from there.

I will appreciate any advice or insight

Good move from Amaechi ,however , this railway racketeering will still continue . I will advice Amaechi to send some of his trusted guys to go uncover as passengers in a month or 2 months time to this same place. That is when he can really root this out of the system

My online family. Just had an experience with WES and I thought I should share, maybe someone will benefit from it.

So my ECA was completed in March, 2018. Then there was no requirement for WAEC/NECO evaluation. But I still sent my SSCE certificates together with my UK masters and Nigeria BSc.

Fast-forward to December 2018. I applied for course by course evaluation for professional registration. After I submitted my application, the automatic document requirements list appeared that I should send my SSCE certificates and scratch card for verification.

I've not sent the documents because of my schedule. Surprisingly, WES sent an email that all my documents is now complete. The my evaluation will be completed this month.

I'm just excited that I don't need to spend another cash sending SSCE scratch card..

In all, IT WILL END IN PRAISE.

I sent in my b.tech and m.eng(from romania) but not mine ssce...I am going to send for course by course evaluation will I still need ssce to be sent

In addition, take 2 questions a time, naturally for the difficult text you have to read the whole text once or even several times some paragraphs to fully understand. I will post about speaking and writing later. Why can't I write more than few sentences on nairaland

Lastly, the way you read should take. Speed reading is an art, there are YouTube videos on this. Use your pencil to read, not your eyes alone. Start from the second word of the paragraph u are saving time and not losing comprehension. This is true for all reading, naturally for simpler text your speed reading will be fast for tough text like the last 2 or last one depending it will be slower but it is still faster that "ordinary" reading.

Reading
The biggest change I made was in strategy. Depending on if it is a 3 or 4 passage read comprehension. The first or first two text are actually "easy" to comprehend so you don't need read every word or sentence, just focus on the following: name of the topic, the sub titles, the first sentence of the paragraph and maybe the last, anything in bold focus and immediately go to the questions , don't take one, take 2 questions a time especially for the first one or 2 essay, depending on whether it is a 3 or 4 essay reading test.

Hello house, for those taking IELTS, I will give tips.
First a background. I did IELTS 3 times . Two previous occasions, my listening was always 8.5 and 8 but my R,S,W always flirted btw 6.5 & 7,no clean 7 overall. For my third attempt I got the following for LRWS..8.5,9,7,7
Listening
Time is of the essence. The discussions gets more difficult as you progress, quickly read the passage & anticipate what could be the answers, which requires comprehension of the context. Focus on 2 questions a time.

Hello All,

Congrats to all the IELTS grabbers and hopefully more ITA clinchers

I need an advice

1. Post-ITA, For those filling the application for employment, if there is a place i spent like one month employment before i moved to another place, if i have filled it in before and saved it, but tried getting reference and they do not give. Should I just edit it as unemployed? As long as it is not transmitted is it ok, I was reading of time-stamping application or so, I am confused

2) For POF, does it matter regarding the Gift Deed, if it was dated before or after the amount was transferred to one's account. In other words, should the Gift Deed be dated before or after the money was transferred to ones account or there is no difference
