As Nigeria turns 53 today,most of us have conflicting views on the roles played by Lord Lugard and his then concubine Flora Shaw.

For those who dont know,Lord Lugard was the British Governor- General that amalgamated Northern and Southern Nigeria. Brought us together to form one country.

Flora Shaw on the other hand was a 'runz girl' that became Lugard's babe(and eventual wife)-she is the one that coined the name NIGERIA from the words Niger area.

So,let's assume that Lord Lugard and Flora Shaw are now somewhere in heaven (or hell) but with access to Nairaland- As a Nigerian and as we celebrate our 53rd independence and 100 years of amalgamation, WHAT WOULD U LIkE TO SAY TO MR & MRS LUGARD?

Mr President was also spot on about CORRUPTION. Countries like Russia, India and Indonesia have ridiculous rates of corruption but are still making great economic progress.
Infrastructures and access to finance is key. If a corrupt Nigerian builds a power plant (with stolen money) that employs thousands and provides constant electricity will anybody complain?

The media chat was EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE.

But GEJ calmly responsed and dropped a poser questioning why state-owned universities should also be on strike,since the FG is not directly responsible for state universities.

Gej is probably one of Nigeria's best leaders and his performance in the last 3years dwarfs Obj's 8 years in many MANY aspects. Take it or leave it.

Several anti-GEJ individuals have commenced an online movement designed to discredit President Goodluck Jonathan's recent Media chat. Many of these E-warriors did not even watch the programme.

ASUU has probably become very jittery as we speak,especially their state chapters.

GEJ had a great media chat with very down-to-earth answers to complex questions. Even the panelists who started off with fire (especially the Northern guy) were eventually overwhelmed by Mr President,

If u were smart enough u'd remember that companies like Kingsway, Leventis and co were bound by Nigeria's 'indigenization decree' of the 70s/80s making it mandatory for Nigerians to own majority stakes

My only anger is why Nigerian investors and the government have not taken it upon themselves to develope a Nigerian -owned big retail brand.

As a business entity Shoprite can only hope that its visibility studies on Ibadan pays off on the longrun.

Yesterdays breaking news that Boko Haram's leader Shekau was still alive via a new video has turned me into a Youtube scavenger.
I have checked everywhere online but i haven't seen any video.

The closest i saw was a still video showing his picture with an audio message in the background. Please i want to believe that this is not the video BBC hausa service was talking about.

The truth of the matter is that the resources of the govt is limited and the needs (not just wants) of the state far outstrip it. BRF has taxed the people to the max and their is a limit to wish you can increase IGR yet the money no reach. i will like the electorates to keep highlighting all these bad areas to keep the govt on their toes but to say that political affiliation is the reason why such roads remain undone is simplistic and childish. Borno way located in the Ebute Metta East Area of Lagos state is one of the most prominent roads on the Lagos mainland.

Borno way was constructed to taste during the Jakande administration,well paved with side walks and street lights. Subsequent military administrations ensured that the road was well maintained,up until 1999. Borno way is an inner road that connects the famous Oyingbo market with several prime locations such as Adekunle, Alagomeji , down to Sabo,Yaba. Several businesses and middle class residential apartments are located along Borno way. Unfortunately,the current state of 'Borno way' starting from Oyingbo axis down to Adekunle will definitely bring tears to the eyes of long time residents of that area.

Many residents allege that Borno way (a state government road) is being punished because it's located within a PDP stronghold part of Lagos. The gist is that during Governor Tinubu's first term between 1999 and 2003,he had initiated the rehabilitation of Borno way but in 2003 people of that area voted massively for PDP during the 2003 elections and have remained punished and abandoned ever since.

A top AD local chieftain is quoted to have declared (in 2003) that the AD would teach 'Borno way people' a bitter lesson.

GEJ has dealt a crushing blow to terrorism as he single handedly built a Nigerian anti-terrorism structure from scratch. This is probably why most of the real sponsors of Boko Haram got frustrated and decided to form 'New PDP'. LOL
