jideakin1: Well, I don't consider it cheap with a forward PE of over 57x. It is the Q-3 result that is N333.1M. If CICO fails and you get stuck with this one when their full year result is announced, you won't be too happy. Another reason why I am risking a stock like Mbenefit is that they had a bad last quarter. This was meant to be due to some major claim. If this is reversed and they return to their earning partern, the full year results will still justify the current price even if there is no spike because the earnings yield will probably still be no more than 4%. |

aktopgun: Correct guy. I have one major disadvantage as I don't have an agbero broker. I try to anticipate and buy early but hopefully near the lowest price of the day when the price is still falling. If the price spikes on Monday and the stock goes on bid, na story my ajebo broker go dey talk |

windywendy: You talk well. My heart dey my mouth as I dey venture for this region but I bin don hammer in the last 4 weeks in that sector mainly by being lucky and greed no gree me comot there again. CICO for Lawunion, Prestige and Staco don spoil me Anyway, I agree with you but there are 2 insurance stocks I must be in wether they release results or even do PO. I believe these will deliver. Sure, I can vouch for most and for those ones I am ready for even 3 day CICO before dem trap me with woeful results. If another week of depression continues in insurance though and we start seeing real good valuations, I am loading up fully on some of them because the results will still justify a price spike. |

jideakin1: Yes, nothing to lose except it's bearish again next week Anyway, I had eyes on Unic and Mbenefit. Beware of potential TS for Mbenefit sha. These two still have reasonable fundamentals and have lost a chunk of weight. Me dey try buy at lowest price of the day sha o. Caveat Emptor Plenty. |

Naijadr: That's a long time. Why don't you call them? Try reaching them on the number for the trade alerts. 234-1-8923627 234-1-8923628 234-1-8179742 234-1-8179743 234-1-8179744 The first number worked for me. |

nkc: I suppose this will work as well. Using the + is more universal since you don't have to worry about the international access number like 009 for Nigeria and 011 for the US as an example. |
Investment / Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by pumping777(m): 8:48pm On Mar 07, 2008 |
Naijadr: I don't know. All their promised dates have not been kept so I've stopped asking. With access to my CSCS account, I only need my Naira statement which I ask for periodically. I described the process in one of my previous posts. The format is +1xxxxxxxxxx |

SavvyLanre: I feel so and I have positioned for 2 I hope will do well next week. This week was not all bearish for insurance. Lawunion delivered big time for a quick CICO. I've used the loot to tie these 2 down today for next week and once I'm finished I'm back to Lawunion shap shap. |

Japaul will just be like Oceanic. I don't see the reason to sell in panic. You will not be able to verify the certificates since the PO shares are not yet listed. They can't be listed until after closure of the register. The new certificates are not at par with the existing ones. They don't qualify for bonus or dividends. Check the prospectus. How will you differentiate between the two when you try to sell them at the same time? Expect Japaul Year end very soon. The goodies are reserved for only those that have existing shares. Oceanic price rose to around N38 after the FY results because PO shares did not share from the goodies. After the closure of the register, the PO shares were listed and this drove down the price. Caveat Emptor patapata. |

samstone4: That is why I said this is warning for a long term investor not to buy beyond N30. Short term traders can take advantage of the current scarcity before the PO certs come out. |

I can't recall who brought up the issue of Japaul. Like I suspected, the fall of Japaul has been halted and it spiked 5% today after some gains yesterday as well. This is an opportunity for you to test your greed level again. I asked that you wait for another short bull run to sell. Are you ready to sell tomorrow? You would have cut your losses or increased your gain especially if you try to sell at the high for tomorrow. If you decide to wait to see where it gets, hmm, note that it can come down again. At around N12, Japaul was too obvious a CICO stock. I could not resist it. Happy investing. |

bigjay01: I don give warning say GDR conversion go worry the stock for now. Many of us that bought via GDR in December for N16.50 already have CSCS credited. People go sell na. |
Investment / Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by pumping777(m): 3:41pm On Mar 07, 2008 |
bigjay01: You correct about that but a PAT of N26M for Q-2 does not cut it yet. Let's wait for FY 2007. Exceptional items may not be reported till that time. |
Investment / Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by pumping777(m): 3:29pm On Mar 07, 2008 |
beginner: beginner: If I have to choose only 1, I will go for UBA. The possibility of bonus is much higher and the stock is really under-priced. The bonus potential is one reason for which I will pick UBA. If I have to choose 2, I will go for UBA and FBN. The earnings potential of FBN is great and end of year goodies should be juicy. It many not include bonus but significant PAT with generous dividends should do the trick. Ok, why did I not choose Oceanic? It's good value alright but you asked for only two. Personally I think you can also put this in the mix. The lower nominal price will be an advantage. Caveat & Emptor joined together. |

bigjay01: If you look closely you will find that Livestock has been reporting exceptional items as profit so I don't see a +ve turn around yet. They also proceeded to dilute the ownership by doing a PP after the rights issue!!! Forward PE is around 230! --------- A total of 630,519,000 shares were added to the shares outstanding in the name of Livestock Feeds Plc on Thursday, November 22, 2007 following the Placing with three Investors. -------- Sure you can keep this stock short term but anything more than that is more than risky. |

Investment / Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by pumping777(m): 2:51pm On Mar 07, 2008 |
mecatchcha: You just need to change your strategy. I don't have an agbero broker but I get by. Since you know the level of your broker, don't send mandates to buy stocks that are on net bid gaining 5% daily or to sell stocks that are on net offer losing 5% daily. Try to buy or sell before the herd action starts otherwise you keep getting your stocks when there is a price reversal. Otherwise, forget CICO and go medium term so you don't need to focus on stocks that just make 5% gains on a daily basis for long periods. These are hard to get once the action has started if you don't have an agbero broker. |
Investment / Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by pumping777(m): 2:45pm On Mar 07, 2008 |
bigjay01: You're right. However, the news is being recycled by some media houses. Sometimes this is how companies say they have done their due dilligence in making information about the performance of the company visible so it does not appear there is an intentional manipulation of prices. Consider one other subtle example. The MD of Costain said they were projecting the share price of Costain to be around N30 in 2009 when the stock price was already over N30 at that point in time. This is a way of signalling that the current price is not realistic and investors should be wary. However, for those positioned for temporary CICO and then re-entry this is nothing to worry about. However, this is the cue for a long term investor of the stock to be cautious when buying above that price. |
