@EASIMONI, I AM BEGINNING TO SUSPECT THAT MOST OF THESE COYS ARE RELEASING THEIR RESULTS TO COINCIDE WITH THE IMPENDING BULL RUN.

CCNN RELEASED THEIRS EARLY.

@PUMPING I AGREE WITH YOU BUT WITH THE BULL RUN PLUS D FACT DAT CCNN HAS D MOST CHEERING NEWS(SOME PROFIT) I EXPECT IT TO BE ON D UPWARD TREND.

I think they are releasing these ones just before Easter to minimize the negative impact.

I have no doubt that it could be on an upward trend but this may have nothing to do with wether the results are good or bad. In fact, the worse the results, the better for the positive movement  grin grin

All (especially my teachers - pumping et al),

Still on STERLNBANK

My broker offers me 1,000,000 units of Sterling at a premium of N2.
Do you consider this a good BUY?

That is around 27% premium at N9.28 with a forward PE of around 29x at that price. I think you should netotiate this down and look for like 15% at least or you may just end up making stipends after factoring in selling commision as well

1.24b AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT I HAVE FROM FUTUREVIEW AS AT JANUARY 2008.

@PUMPING IS THIS CORRECT?

I have the same.

You have to look at CCNN's result very well over the course of the year. It appears they dropped PAT in Q-3 and only added to PAT marginally in Q-4. They already declared PAT of N0.19B in Q-3 but ended the year with N0.14B. This is not my favourite sector at the moment.

CrazyT,
This chart is useful for watching the ebbs and flows of the NSE. You can see that me have bull and bear runs in repeatable intervals. Starting from March 07, I can count about 8 cycles. The bulls have mostly beaten the bears hence the entire market is trending up but the bears come in to correct every few weeks. You can see that the 9 day RSI is currently  at zero and the 14 day RSI is ~40 and heading down. I expect no more than two more days of bears (by which time the 14 day RSI will hit zero too) before the bulls come back. They 14 day RSI almost never hits zero in a largely bullish market.

In other words, since the beginning of March, we've been witnessing the correction of the 2nd longest bull run we've had in the last 15 months (see the RSI at 100 throughout Feb 08?). Today is the day to issue buy orders!  grin

Shig, I hope you listened 2 weeks ago when I told u to keep cash because the bears were coming!

Now, what to buy. If I put my Glass on, I might see a Beta deal but I'm too busy looking for a Diamond for the missus. Did D-banj say "no long thing"? I could sworn he said "yes Long-man". And the UBA brothers may not be crooks after-all.

Na only shigidi you sabi tell? No start that one o grin grin

Not too sure about the answer to that question but if you read between the lines of all these articles, it would be easy to see that people are snapping up companies that could potentially service key sectors like the telecom, power and construction sectors -- niwicable, nigeria ropes (telecoms), ABB, etc etc. I learnt of the nigeria ropes last week and was able to get some on the floor. I won't be surprised at all if the news about additional investment in niwicable turns out to be true. I also won't be surprised if something akin to the local content policy in the Oil and Gas sector gets implemented in the telecoms sector as well. I know for a fact that IFC is investing heavily in the mortgage sector through banks like FCMB and GTB, and also through uac properties (this one happened mid last year), so you can expect a boom for the construction sector and all others that service that sector. You decipher the rest.

I see it this way. Guys that want to buy into companies are targeting low cap companies since this have the greatest potential of expansion.

I don't know what happened in Naija in the last couple of years that opened peoples eyes. Now folks are smarter but maybe it's because it is just now many of these companies have become viable.

Can you imagine how many companies in Nigeria as early as 2 years ago that had caps below N2B and were doing good business? Some were only struggling because of operating expenses and casflow and were looking for bail outs. Quite a number of them even as early as beginning of last year.

This is one of the reasons many have to go and do PO and increase the capital base. This is the reason why low cap companies will have prices hitting the roof because the first strike is for investors to try and accumulate as many shares as possible thereby spiking the price.

For me, this is the cue to making serious money this year. As an example, this is why a company like G Cappa will not rest until it's capitalization gets out of the one man poaching zone. Currently it has a capitalization of just N1.63B!!!. It must move just like SCOA.

What of Guinness and Wapco are they worth keeping, is the future bright for them two.
Whats happening to FBN they are stagnant for some time now.

I think someone asked me this question earlier. Make I try my hand.

Wapco - I don't see the reason for keeping this stock at this time. The future, future may be bright but the current future is bleak. If you are in for Cico, it is a big gamble. If you are in for looo.ooong term, no problem.

Guinness - Medium term (you will need to hold till like the end of the year for FY ending June results) this is okay. Don't expect any major leap until after the end of year results. Based on the sterling performance by NB, I will expect them to pick up on their otherwise slow year. Fundamantally this is still a very strong stock.

I'm hoping to add to my ABC too. please , your 2cents on this will be appreciated.
Thanks

If you want to enter Big Treat based on sentiments, it is attractive based on the recent bear run. However, the technical charts don't really support this yet. The candles suggest there is still some bleeding to come and the RSI is not yet in the oversold region. Buiying tomorrow can only be based on sentiments that it has been falling for so long and if you are worried your broker will not get when prices stabilize.

Fundamentally, Big Treat is overpriced. The forward PE is around 92x so this increases the risk and you have to determine if you have the heart for such risk in the current bearish market.

The candlestickss also does not support buying ABC tomorrow. The stock opened and closed at the lowest price of the day without any movement and the volume was low. This suggests that there are still sellers waiting to sell who did not get buyers.

Fundamentally, ABC is also fairly expensive with a forward PE of around 52x.

It appears that this will be a good medium to long term stock though but you may just want to wait for the stock price to bottom out before you pick up some.

Caveat Empty.

Good luck.

@ PUMPING 777,  looking at that beta glass result, ifi use 119% growth on 9 months result i get a forward pe of 14. even better.
anyway, i appreciate the advice u gave on selling the banks for now, but the truth is, i am a devoted fundamentalists, i know ubaisnt going to give good returns anytime soon but then what do i buy, ive heard big treat ,abc transport, unity bank but the truth is fundamentally, none of these coys are worth sh lipsrsealed lipsrsealed.
till i see a smallcap coy with good fundamentals, no move for me. i can't get that bloody chellarams because its too illiquid.
my 2kobo,

I'm with you on this Beta Glass. I am stocking up on this because I believe they will deliver. They have never given a bonus so I'm not so hopeful in that area but like you said if they keep up with their performance this is a sound value stock.

You have a good point about holding on to your fundamental stocks. Just remember to sell your fundamental stocks when they are likely to take a beating and buy them later.

My strategy is very similar to yours. Low caps with good fundamentals. Not necessarily low nominal price but instead low capitalization which is why Beta Glass and for instance Chellarams will make the list.

The same reason why now many insurance stocks will not make my list despite the low nominal price.

This also led me to Ikeja Hotels and am I glad that I picked up a large volume again after a couple of CICO with the stock. There are just a handful of these stocks on the NSE at the moment anyway and some are difficult to get. I could not believe my luck with the quantity of Chellarams I bought. With the low volumes on sale, on some days, I ended up being the one that bought all the shares on offer and even below my bid price so now I have a reasonable sum.

Abeg asking for the third time today. Does any one have an info on what is driving Berger and how long it is likely to last. Good to see you pumping 777. Is Berger fundamentally strong? Thanks in anticipation of replies.

Based on current information, one will consider the stock expensive right now. The forward PE is around 49x. However, I suppose the PAT is going to exceed expectations, so the valuation may become positive then. The only thing is that it appears a lot of this valuation has already beena added to the current price going by the recent bull run.

One thing we just must remember about the bull run of a stock. Everyday subtracts one day from the period the bull run will last. So the longer the stock has been on a bull run, the more likely it is that it will end soon. If you get in towards the end, you end up playing into the hands of profit takers. An exception will be in a case where the stock is still undervalued. SCOA comes to mind.

BCC didn't make a loss. It's just that PAT was lower than last year's PAT by over 50%.  You can call it reduced profit smiley
They are declaring bonus of 1 for 8

I think they made a loss in Q-4. They already made PAT of N1.6B in Q-3 they've now ended the year with N1.25B meaning a loss of N0.35B in Q-4.

At least me tell una to sell your bank stocks and chop good money elsewhere. Oya, see the UBA I sold at N51 and Diamond at almost N22 about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I did not make a profit then but at least I used the money to enter Ikeja Hotels, CIleasing (already out), Lawunion (already out), Chellarams and Beta Glass and I'm looking good.

If I go back and buy those bank stocks now, I have still made reverse profit even if I did not trade with the money.

One way to have some hope of beating the NSE is to be devoid of any sentiments.

Even a layman would know that you're being baised after reading your initial posted beef-talk. recognition & unnecessary attention to you. If you care to know, i'm one of the people that believe in Cashcraft as one of the best Stockbroking, Portfolio Mgt, Asset mgt & Investment coy in Nigeria. Case closed! ! !

You've got to be kidding me. You sound more like a Cashcraft employee. I have given cashcraft a very long rope and they have shown me sufficient proof that they cannot deliver good service if their licence depended on it. This is a thoroughly imcompetent company that does not deserve patronage from any serious minded person.

The company also has in its employement a bunch of very dishonest account officers that try to cut corners to make a cut out of your transactions. This is a useless company and I will challenge anyone that wants to defend them.

Why will it take 5 months for cashcraft to pay a customer the proceeds of a sale? That is corporate stealing.

I have somE RTBRISCOE
as they have given a 1 to 4 bonus now, if i sell my holdings say tomorrow, will i get the bonus?
also this news should mean people would start selling off and may lead to a price decline.
is this statement valid?
please analyze

@ALL
FEEL FREE TO CONTRIBUT

I get too. First we need to know when the register closes. I'm sure the register cannot close tomorrow because at the earliest the result was released today. In this case if you sell tomorrow, you don't get dividend or bonus.

No, people will not start selling off. Obviously the rumour of bonus here had been kept under a lid so the stock price had not really appreciated to reflect this bonus. Expect around another 20% increase or more based on 1 for 4 bonus.

Now, if you are someone who likes accumulating bonus shares, then you can decide to wait until after the closure date to sell. It all depends on you. Also,  note that depending on how good the results were and how much the price appreciates before the mark down, the stock may head up north again even after mark down. This is not usually the case but a recent example is Deap.

If you want to take profit, then try to sell as close to the closure of the register as possible or until you see the price stabilizing.  My expectation is around N38 but this will be clearer after seeing the results.
