Pregnancy is regarded as one of the most crucial stage in the life of pregnant women which requires utmost attention, care and support. Proper nutrition is very vital during pregnancy as nutritional adequacy of diet is important for the growth of the developing fetus and maintenance of health in pregnancy. The nutritional status of a pregnant woman is an important factor that influences her health during pregnancy as well as the health of the fetus. This is largely determined by her nutritional intake before and during pregnancy. One of the ways of getting all the necessary nutrients is to eat varieties from each of food groups everyday. More so, the intake of specific micronutrients, this particularly applies to docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), iron, iodine, calcium, folic acid, and vitamin D. The consumption of a varied and balanced diet from the pre-conceptional period is essential to ensure both maternal well-being and pregnancy outcomes. Lack of intake of these specific micronutrients as well as eating of a well balanced diet during pregnancy can lead to nutritional deficiencies and malnutrition in the long run. And these can affect the health of both the pregnant woman and developing fetus. Determinant of individual food choice during pregnancy can influence and affect the nutritional status of pregnant women either positively or negatively. Taking into consideration the proximity, taste, cost of obtaining foods also form part of the nutritional challenge. Poor nutrition can be associated with lower income, rural areas and less maternal education on nutrition. The healthcare system has a fair share in the blame in regards to nutritional challenges in pregnancy. The healthcare system has failed to educate pregnant women on the importance of proper dieting during pregnancy, this is pre-eminent at the primary healthcare centres in rural communities, as some of the healthcare centers lack the service of a trained nutritionist and are not well trained in areas of nutrition in regards to pregnancy. Also, negligence on the part of pregnant women to adhere to instruction and imbibe the culture of proper dieting is another key element of nutritional challenges in pregnancy. Some pregnant women choose to eat what there like even after receiving proper education and enlightenment on nutrition. There is also this perception among some pregnant women that proper diet is expensive and meant only for the rich, not knowing that with little money as well there can get proper or well balanced diet. In order to nip these daunting nutritional challenges in pregnancy in the bud, the government as a matter of utmost important strengthening the capacity development of the health professionals in areas of nutrition education and training, nutrition policy and programs at all levels with emphasis at the primary healthcare level. More so, all relevant stakeholders in the health sector should collaborate with the government in the promotion of proper nutrition in pregnancy and health. The intervention must remain consistent and sustainable at all levels. Source: http://www.healthnews.ng/nutritional-challenges-in-pregnancy/ |

I'm married and, OP, I will give you just two advices. 1. If your wife does not obey you, does not respect you, lies to you and values her own family members more than you, you are in big trouble. You should leave if you can. Trust me, don't take the advice of Nairaland's Karishikas and Slay Queens serious. You know what you want in a wife. Whether they agree with you or not, it is what you want and no one can change that. If you are not getting what you want, either quit now or do number two. 2. You should only stay in the relationship if you can regain the control in the marriage. Once again, ignore the Slay Queens and Nairaland feminists. It is your house, your life and your wife. You should have a frank discussion with her with a peace offering of course, a gift she wants should be okay. Take her out to a nice restaurant and have a frank conversation. Tell her how you feel, what you want her to stop doing and why it is very important to you that she take you more serious than her parents and siblings. If she tries to interject, tell her with a straight face that you have to get a lot of your chest first. She will promise she will change and that's something you should hold on to. Be affirmative and stand your ground. You shouldn't allow her to press your mumu button until you're sure and convinced that she gets you. If you marry her and she continues her drama, talk sense into her head again. If she refuses to change, just get her a tiring job (the 7am - 9pm) type and live your life as you like. Or find a job in another city and come home on weekends only. It is well my guy. I had it rough initially in my marriage but things are really smooth now, I know you will be fine. You sound like you love her and you just want the family drama out of your marriage. I get you, I totally do. Don't mind the insults here. It's your life. It's your wife. It's your house. It's your gas. You have the right to decide how things go in your home, it's your God-given responsibility as the man in the house. |

God saved me on this road too few months ago. I was driving all alone in the car and was speeding. I think i was at 140km per hour. I'm so lucky to be alive. I thought I was dead. It's so easy to die my people. Don't over speed and always wear seatbelt. That was what saved me. Accidents have nothing to do with Buhari or APC. Just don't over speed and wear seatbelt. Bank customers in Nigeria will from this month will be paying a N50 monthly card maintenance fee instead of a yearly N100. This simply means that every year, each bank customer would be paying N600 instead of N100 – representing a N500 increment. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is behind the tariff hike and it affects debit and credit cards and the implementation will begin from May 1, 2017. The CBN said this new tariff is in line with review of chargesby banks and other financial institutions in the country. According to media report, the “Guide to Charges by Banks and Other Financial Institutions” provides a basis for the application of charges on various products and services offered by the banks and other financial institutions in Nigeria to their customers. Kevin Amugo, CBN’s Director of Financial Policy and Regulation Department, said the charges came after extensive consultation with stakeholders. “The aim of the guide is to enhance flexibility, transparency and competition in the Nigerian banking industry,” he said. According to Amugo, “where a charge is stipulated as “negotiable”, banks and other financial institutions are required to draw the attention of customers to their rights to negotiate and the two parties are required to mutually agree on the applicable interest and/or charge via a verifiable means.” Source: http://innovation-village.com/cbn-increases-card-maintenance-fee-n100-n600/ |

Anti-narcotics sleuths have arrested three persons, including a Nigerian, and seized drugs worth Rs 3 crore as they unearthed an alleged drug racket being run with supply coming from foreign shores. Officials said the action was carried out by the Delhi zonal unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) after they intercepted an incoming foreign parcel that contained 500 gms of cocaine. NCB officials, they said, found that the Nigerian, identified as Bartholomew Okoh alias Prince, was the alleged kingpin of the racket with aid from two locals identified as A Rehman and Md Hanif. The duo were handling the said illicit parcel that had come from Port of Spain, capital of Trinidad and Tobago, on behalf of Okoh, a resident of Vikaspuri, they said. "The price of the drug in illegal market is about Rs 3 crore," they said, adding the three persons were arrested yesterday under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS). Okoh was living in India since 2012, they said. Source: http://www.business-standard.com/article/pti-stories/nigerian-two-others-arrested-with-drugs-worth-rs-3-crore-116080600890_1.html
