Onitsha is still economic vibrant more than aba, if Anambra is playing second fiddle then Abia isn’t pushing atal

Abians need this your advise more than ndi Anambra

Thank you

That is the issue I have with you villagers. Things are changing real fast but you want to be stuck in the old ways. Countries that want to compete are doing things differently so that they can increase their market shares, you are here pandering to the ways of your politicians. If we do not evolve soon, then we might lose this advantage. It is happening in Europe and you are not impervious to changes.

We need to undertake projects that will push us out of this economic mediocrity that we currently pride ourselves. We always show houses built by rich igbo men but we have not shown new heavy industries that form the bed rock of any civilization. We need to build for our children and stop giving them the civil war stories as an excuse for our economic decadence.

We can start by redirecting the Onitsha Market to attain its obvious height. The citadel of commerce. The height where people all over Africa will come for commercial purposes. The place manufacturers will have to hustle for traders to push their products to the international market. Everything done today is based on business Intelligence and ingenuity. Building new stores without them attracting international buyers and people outside the state is just you playing local game. We need monies from their entire 36 states of the federation. We need monies from the entire parts of Africa. We need to build to attract. When you start first and key yourself in the integral parts of the market, then no one will be able to remove you.

We are better placed than Lagos, and we should key into the fact that we are sitting close to the 11 richest states of the federation with a combined population of over 60-70 million that can become our direct customers. We must key ourselves now! If Lagos finally builds the coastal highway, it will connect Lagos to these states and they will finally become our direct competitors. We should be smart enough to know that if we don't upgrade our approach, it will become more of a burden than any other thing.

First, otti isn’t the brain behind geometric power plant in Aba, also Anambra will soon have theirs too

Secondly, onitsha is both economically/infrastructural developed than aba and also Soludo had invested more in onitsha than what otti is doing in Aba, we are on ground, I can tell you this

Thirdly, Amazon or not, onitsha is and will still be the biggest market in west Africa couple with lots of industries springing everyday

Fourthly, Soludo is the best performing governor in Nigeria as of now, no one comes close. You need to start watching YouTubers from Anambra to understand this eg Anambra diaries, tv, Godwin$blessing etc.

Thanks

Have you seen the eyesore you call Onitsha market and the shopping cities all over the world? Why are you guys acting like things should not be better. The city has a higher ceiling than you guys are pushing but what we see is repressive. We need Anambra state to be a major player in the country's economy and not play second fiddle to kwara and edo states. What is even wrong with you guys?

Mad people everywhere.

Why are you avoiding mentioning Julius Berger to construct all the streets in Anambra state?

Meanwhile, your type would NEVER pay even 0ne kobo in taxes! Yet, you are the first to recommend that the most fiscally reckless methods of achieving development be used in Anambra.

If you want to build your village house and Julius Berger charges you N1 billion naira to build a three-bedroom bungalow, while a Nigerian contractor charges you 40 million naira for the same house, you will judiciously use the Nigerian contractor because you know there are no special equipment needed to build a village bungalow.

But if it is government money, like Tinubu, you believe resources are INFINITE, or rather you can just print more money without consequences on the economy. Therefore government should just continue spending and borrowing more money for more wasteful expenditures on using Julius Berger to simply tar internal streets which can be done very well with simple construction equipment of Nigerian contractors.

You and I know that these roads have an active life of at most 8-10years and our hard work monies will have to go back to repairing those roads. Are we not deceiving ourselves by building roads that the next governor will have to rebuild?

The reason why I said, design against failure. Some cities collect council taxes to maintain roads and it has helped them to maintain roads e.g. the UK while some countries that built their cities to make it difficult for these roads to go bad e.g. Germany by providing a tram system that made most people use these public transport as against driving. When you do your calculations and see what is more feasible for your people, then you push the infrastructures that will sustain these things.

Stop spewing nonsense. Anambra is the right path of development and Anambra is equally the best when it comes to overall infrastructures and development in the entire eastern Nigeria. You are mentioning Germany, etc, as if there’s any Nigerian state that will get to that level even in the next hundred years

The reason why I make these simple comparisons is because these are low hanging fruits. If we fail to design against failure, it will be the cause of our failure. I love my state and my people and I wish without any iota of doubt that things can be different from the design stage. It is always difficult to change when people have adopted the substandard level of development.

Really
You’re not seeing the new government house/roads leading to it?

You’re seeing the solution fun city??

You’re seeing Ekwulobia flyover and road dualization?? Including modern car park

You’re not seeing the ongoing ochanja dualize roads??

You’re also not seeing ongoing okpoko roads dualization and the general hospital??

You’re seeing so many road construction going on in the state??

Portharcourt road has been recently completed with streetlights

Akpaka gra has been long completed with streetlights??

You also not seeing awka- ofe mmili road??

Bros, are you blind?

I believe that we are not really open to international trends and how countries are positioning themselves to be bigger players in the industries. Any infrastructure that will not force capital inflows into the state is just building legacy projects. There are projects that will fund other projects and we are not undertaking those projects. Otti discovered that the state's cash-cow is Aba and he is doing everything to make the city liveable and investable for any investor. The power station in the city will come up on the 26th of February and it will further drive capital inflows into the city. We must understand that, Onitsha main market as it is doesn't have a high ceiling of growth anymore and needs to be modernized to bring big players into the city. Milan and Paris are known for clothing designs, Shanghai and shenzhen are known for commodity products, Dubai and other small cities are known for other big things but we still pride Onitsha of 1970s.

He should have made Onitsha a priority that anything you want to get from any part of the world, will be gotten in Onitsha seamlessly. Onitsha needs to be redesigned to solve 2024 problems and not maintain the archaic outlook. The luck we have as a state is that money resides in the hands of the people and government can mobilize based on design to build something that people will align with and also utilize e-commerce to drag customers to the city. If Amazon finally establish a base in Abuja, it will steal a value chain of over 1billion dollars yearly from our people and we will have ourselves to blame for it.

We also have Nnewi, that city has been lacking government patronage since Peter Obi. The city that houses the highest number of billionaires per square miles is having that low level of infrastructure? Which plan do we have for the city and what are we doing to make the city reach its potential. Many states in Nigeria suffer from lack of human capital development, but a city with a huge human capital development is suffering like that.

Remember, this guy is collecting more money than his predecessors and also he is enjoying the oil producing state allocation but he can't think big. I see that you guys really love the chains.

It is easy to cite Americans, Japanese, or Germans as the people we should copy. But you fail to also copy their BEHAVIOR / MINDSET! No American, German, or Japanese would take trash from their homes and dump it in the street or into drainage gutters hoping the flood would carry the trash to the River Mississippi. That is the underlying difference between the people who live in those countries and the behavior of our people! If you take Nigerians to America and bring Americans to Nigeria, in less than 2 years, they will make our cities look sparkling clean with flowers and trees all over, while we would make New York and Los Angeles look like piggeries with decaying trashing filled gutters and underground drainage seeping out sewage onto the streets. That my friend is the DIFFERENCE! Our people are still getting accustomed to the tenets of modern city life. Unfortunately, previous governments paid zero attention to environmental sanitation, so our people assume that it is perfectly okay to litter and pollute their environment as much as possible. So long as they sweep inside of their homes. The exterior can be a pile of trash and nobody cares.

If someone hears you talking like this they would think you are the type that does not throw trash on the street or properly bag your refuse and drive to authorized places to dispose of them. Or they would believe that you will gladly pay taxes without being chased around. An average American or German would do these things on their own without waiting for the government to chase them around before doing the right thing!

The problem with most of you is MINDSET! Nigerians are the most difficult people to govern and Igbos have learned and imbibed that recalcitrant attitude. Imagine that people asked to stop trading on the street and blocking the free flow of traffic would return to the same spot immediately after the enforcement team moved to another location. Until the enforcement team returns with clubs and begins to damage their wares to forcefully make them comply! There is a total disregard for the laws and norms of a sane society.

If you have visited the alleys of these countries, you will know that they are not so different from our people. The only thing these governments do is that, they prevent these things from happening by providing facilities people can trust to take away trashes from their communities without them keeping much within their space. I have monitored most european countries I have visited, they prevent crime by being proactive about the wellbeing of their people.

If we want to have similar standard of living with these first world countries, the governors should invest in amenities that will naturally make people adhere to the rules and regulations without even trying. You walk round my city, you will waste bins tied to streetlights and you dont need to walk any distance to see that you can dispose your dirt. Humans are generally lazy to keep the environment clean, what government does is to enforce is through prevention or correction. Over the years, prevention have been found to help the society grow rather than the through punishments.

We can build a real society and it comes generally from design and not correction. I have done quite a number of environmental research projects in Germany. These guys simulate every possible human thought-process that will put the society in danger. When they notice all the possible failures of the society, they design processes and amenities that will make it difficult (not impossible) to commit these crimes.

That is the kind of society people trust and will make the people know that it will be difficult to do wrong without going out of their ways to do it. We commit so many societal crimes because it is easy to commit them and not because it is difficult for us to be punished.

Men in terms of real estate development, no state in the south east comes close to Anambra. Go to Awka, Oba, Nkwelle and feed your eyes. One week, one mansion. So much confidence in Governor Soludo's government that investors are bringing in capital at a frenetic rate. You begin to wonder if economic downturn is not affecting the state. The new direction for investment in the coming months will be the corridor around the new expressway from second Niger bridge to Obosi. Anambra is too much.

And that is because it is the culture of Igbo people to build in their states and not because the governor has achieved anything. We should know the difference please.

Why do I support open drainage systems? It's simple! They are easy to unblock and maintain in our environment.

I will support closed drainage gutters if it's in high-brow, low-density areas where the homeowners of the mansions would never want to dump heaps of trash in front of their houses. Therefore, it would be very difficult for such covered drainage systems to be clogged with trash.

Soludo is sensible for keeping most of his drainage gutters open for now. he understands our people and the problem associated with cleaning blocked sealed gutters.
Our level of education in Nigeria is sorely lacking and needs a proper upgrade. There is no reason that we should keep open gutters. There are designs currently that will help in removing silts and prevent scenarios like this. We build the most basic infrastructures in the east without paying attention to different designs all over the world that will not cost you an extra coin. We must understand that we live in temperate regions where mosquitos, other insects and micro-organisms will kill us if we do not try our best to curb it now. For crying out loud, we are in 2024 and we are supposed to look at these things as old and should no longer feature in our state again.

Bros, you hit the nail on its head! The big issue is that there is no money! Most of those criticizing Soludo for why he has not built heaven and earth DO NOT and WILL NOT pay any tax! That was precisely the reason the previous governors neglected these cities to rot. Since the average trader passionately hates to pay any tax for the development of the society. Thus, previous governors preferred to use thugs and part-time criminals to extract taxes. Which 99% of such taxes end up in the pockets of the criminals themselves. So it was great that Soludo first stopped using thugs to collect taxes and then digitized the payments through POS directly into the government coffers. I hope that the modernization of the Anambra state tax payment system continues to be improved so that the government can be supported by the few business organizations that view their payment of taxes as a serious civic obligation.

Many armchair critics whose only job is to pontificate online about the skyscrapers or flyovers they need here and there, and how they want all the gutters in the state to be underground or covered always crack me up. Just look at sections of Onitsha - Owerri road where the company CCC built covered gutters! The gutters are now filled with sand and refuse, however unfortunately they cannot be easily desilted because they were permanently covered with concrete! Again, we all like to blindly import anything we see abroad, but nobody asks if our people are as developed as people in such societies that do not dump refuse in their gutters. The reason why some ideas imported from abroad will fail in Nigeria is that we are not at their level of development yet and our people need proper orientation about how to take care of their environment.

Many of those trying to distract Soludo through online smear campaigns also smeared Obiano for building what they called an "unviable poultry farm" as an airport. They posted the images of Atlanta or Heathrow airports as what they "expected" Obiano who was ruling a non-oil producing Anambra state to build! Today such people are now pretending to be praising Obiano for his foresight in building a modern airport, flyovers, and hotels! Wonders shall never end!!!

Now their current antic is to dismiss Soludo's solid efforts to rebuild the collapsed and neglected cities of Anambra. Anyone who goes to Fegge, Okpoko, Awka, and many others will appreciate that Soludo is trying his best to upgrade some of the worst slum settlements in the state while managing the meager resources. It is NOT easy for a state like Anambra to build all these roads at once while also building hospitals e.g. in Okpoko while paying workers' salaries etc. The only way to achieve them is through expanding the tax base and an increase in taxes. Yet, Soludo keeps excluding the poor and vulnerable from taxes! So he should be applauded for taking the bull by the horns to attempt to upgrade our inner cities and make them liveable places again. Some of these armchair critics NEVER consider that there isn't enough money to award a single road in Awka or Onitsha to an international construction company while there are just too many other roads all over the state that are in appalling conditions.

Finally, Soludo should also continue to sanitize our cities through the removal of shanties used in irregular street trading all over our cities. Also to find new locations for small neighborhood markets where private investors can be engaged to build approved plazas or open market stalls for the street traders to be relocated. I see a new Anambra being born. it isn't easy, but you can now clearly see the man's developmental strategy.

Anambra state is the smallest yet the richest state in the east. It is also the gateway to the east and a business hub. The job of the leader is to lead and use every machinery in his power to ensure that people follow rules and regulations in the state. If there's any state in the east that is supposed to undertake audacious projects is Anambra state. With growing revenue from oil and expanding business zones in the state, we should build projects that will not only cater for the services of the state but of the region.

The budget of this man is over 400 billion naira this year and we are not seeing what he wants to use that huge sum of money to solve in the state. We must as a matter of urgency decide if we want to remain as we were in the 90's or move forward.

The best most of our contractors can to now is open drianages with well-defined pedestrian walkway beside it so that we can easily manage the roads

There is no one step at a time in this. Open drainage is the major causes of malaria and other diseases. It is dirty and something should be done about it. We should stop spending money and the same project every 8years. People will live based on the liberty and infrastructure you provide. Let everyone take responsibility so that Anambra will grow finally. Its saddening seeing open drainages in 2023.

Like Obiano undertook an audacious project in the airport, Soludo needs to embark on an audacious project that will put his name amongst the greats in the state. The road projects will not send an alarm and will definitely not push the agenda necessary to bring the large investments we need in the region.

I know you have never been to the new building materials market Ogidi, nor have you been to the new shoe market at Nkwelle Ezunaka. Even the new "Abada" market at the foot of the Niger bridge. Among all these "new markets", none is more beautiful or better planned than the electronics market built in the 1990s! Your type will be thinking of one slum market in LAGOS as the standard. Since all the slums in Lagos are your standard for development without knowing Lagos itself is a slum. You should copy other open markets in other decent developing countries NOT LAGOS!

The point being, we want this new market to truly stand out as an ultra modern space comparable to such anywhere in the world! Not just building another market for the sake of it without car parks, areas for restaurants, banks, entertainment and other facilities. This is an opportunity to build the BIGGEST tourist attraction in Anambra state if it is done right and to world standard NOT LAGOS standard as our people are fixated on Lagos style markets.

There is no constitutional provision for Mayor. The Obiano government started well by creating the Awka Capital Territory Development Agency but then did little to staff it or even fund it. I said a long time ago that you need Development Boards or Agencies to manage major cities from which all key projects should be run - Transport, environment, sanitation, roads, water, healthcare. Staff them with qualified people to get around a lot of the incompetent civil servants that have entrenched themselvves in the ministries of works, health, transport, etc. With them you could even get experts from development agencies (UN, world bank, etc.) to work there funded by external orgs.

Project-driven Agencies are well known to be far more effective than the morass that is state civil service.

This is true. If there will be any serious facelift in this city, many buildings will go down. Onitsha is an epitome of buy land and build. The structures don’t align with each and the people refused to paint. The roads are dirty, even the tarred roads. It’s a serious problem judging from the fact that the world has moved far ahead of this chaos.

Even as a commercial/industrial hub of SE, Onitsha is beautiful, organized and clean. Good job eboh media.

What is remotely wrong with what he said? Onitsha from the video is very disorganized. Infact onitsha is dirty. How can one still find a way of twisting the truth. I don’t seem to understand.

Please, I need a reply on my question. If you were sent a mail to come collect your passport before the date you stated that you want to travel, what does it mean?

I need a reply, how does one know that he has been given visa? The embassy sent my brother a mail that he should come and collect his passport. What does this mean?
