PoliticsRe: Suspended NIA DG, Oke, Admits Jonathan Ordered Release Of $289m. by qleap2all(m): 11:21am On Apr 21, 2017
Celcius:
The suspended Director - General of the National Intelligence Agency , Amb . Ayodele Oke, has met with Vice- President Yemi Osinbajo, where he admitted that his agency received the sum of $ 289 , 202 , 382 on the orders of former President Goodluck Jonathan in February 2015 .

President Muhammadu Buhari , on Wednesday , ordered the suspension of Oke over the role of the NIA in the ownership of $ 43 m ( about N13 bn) and other currencies uncovered in Osborne Towers , Ikoyi, Lagos.

Buhari also ordered the suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation , Mr . Babachir Lawal , in connection with his indictment for contract fraud by a Senate ad hoc committee on mounting humanitarian crisis in the North - East .

A top government source , on Thursday , confided in one of our correspondents that the Osinbajo- led committee had directed Oke to submit documents to back his claim.
It was learnt that the suspended NIA boss had also gathered documents which would be formally submitted to the panel showing that the transaction was approved by Jonathan through the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col . Sambo Dasuki ( retd . ) .
It was learnt that the transaction was known as an intervention fund for national security or special services with the aim of fighting insurgency during the six weeks period between February 14 , when the Presidential /National Assembly elections were postponed and March 28 , when the polls were held.
However , operatives of the EFCC are said to be working on the theory that the money was meant for the prosecution of the 2015 general elections .

A source , who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case , said , “ The DG of the NIA has met with Vice - President Osinbajo and will submit documents pertaining to the transaction .
“ The DG admitted on record that the transaction was authorised by former President Jonathan and Col. Sambo Dasuki , and as such , was simply following orders from the commander - in - chief . He will submit memos and other documents as evidence. ”

Explaining how the transaction took place , the source said a memo was raised by the National Petroleum Investment Management Service on February 25 , 2015 , two weeks after the postponement of the presidential election for ‘ security ’ reasons, based on Dasuki ’ s advice .

According to the memo, NAPIMS asked the CBN to release $ 289 , 202 , 382 to the NIA in cash .
The money was received by the NIA and kept in a safe house .

When asked why President Muhammadu Buhari was not briefed on the existence of the cash, the source said , “The DG NIA informed top security people in the government of the existence of the cash.
“ Specifically in January 2016 , a letter was written by the DG NIA to the NSA , Babagana Moguno , on the existence of the cash . The memo exists and will also be submitted to the panel. ”

It was gathered that one of the posers the NIA would solve was why the apartment , where the money was kept , was registered in the name of the wife of the DG, Mrs. Folasade Oke.

“ One question the suspended NIA boss must answer when he meets with the panel is why the apartment used for an official matter was registered in his wife ’ s name , ” the top government source said .
Efforts to get the NNPC through the Group General Manager , Corporate Affairs , Ndu Ughamadu , were not successful as his mobile indicated that it was not reachable .A detailed text message was sent to him on the matter , but he had yet to respond as of the time of filing this report on Thursday .

NAPIMS is a subsidiary of the NNPC .
Attempts to get comments from the CBN were also not successful as repeated calls made to the acting Director, Corporate Communications , CBN, Mr Isaac Okorafor , did not connect while a text message sent to him on the issue had yet to be responded to as of press time on Thursday.

Panel to invite NAPIMS , CBN officials , others
It was learnt that the Osinbajo- led panel would also invite the Governor of the CBN , Mr . Godwin Emefiele, and some directors of the apex bank to explain why such a huge sum of money was released in such a manner.
One of our correspondents also gathered that officials of NAPIMS would also be invited to explain why the money , which did not go through appropriations , was released .

EFCC to monitor airports , get warrants to search more properties.
It was learnt that the EFCC was working on the theory that more of such huge funds , belonging to the NIA, might be stashed in some secret locations .
A source told The PUNCH that the commission had obtained warrants to search more properties in urban areas of the country.
One of our correspondents learnt that the EFCC had asked sister agencies to be on the lookout at various airports to ensure that none of the affected persons was allowed to flee the country.

Senate panel expresses doubt on Osinbajo - led probe
Meanwhile , the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis , whose interim investigative report indicted the SGF , Lawal , has expressed doubt on the probe ordered by the Presidency .

The Chairman of the Senate panel , Senator Shehu Sani , while featuring on a breakfast programme by Television Continental , TVC Breakfast , on Thursday , said an investigation of the SGF by the Presidency could give Lawal a soft landing eventually .
He stated that the EFCC , the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission and the Nigeria Police could be asked to probe the SGF .

Sani added , “ What I am saying in this aspect is that the best institution to investigate the SGF is one recognised by the law (to carry out the task ), which is the EFCC , ICPC and the police .
“ That is why we are being very cautious in endorsing the investigation in the Presidency . What I am afraid of is soft landing, which I don ’ t think will be in the best interest of the anti - corruption crusade . ”

PoliticsRe: PICS: PDP Chairman In Lagos Declares Interest In Ekiti Guber Race- The Cable by qleap2all(m): 11:53am On Apr 19, 2017
Penaldo:
Segun Adewale has declared his intention to contest the 2018 Ekiti governorship election on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adewale is the factional chairman of the Lagos state chapter of PDP.

The chairman of Aeroland said his aversion of poverty motivated his decision to join the Ekiti governorship race.

“I hate poverty with a passion and by the grace of God if I am given the privilege to lead my people, together we shall defeat the hold of poverty on our people and state,” he said while speaking with journalists.

“It is an aberration that a State known as the fountain of knowledge is also among the poorest states in the country. My mission in Ekiti is to defeat poverty in the land by converting our God given knowledge to wealth.

“Our manifesto is geared towards building a strong financial capacity for the state and her citizens such that Ekiti can be a lender to other states of the federation.”

Adewale said he has informed the party’s state working committee and other stakeholders of his intention.

He added that Ekiti needs someone with integrity at the helm of its affairs.

“I have come here today with my supporters to inform our party leaders of my intention to vie for the governorship seat next year. This visit puts to rest the rumors on whether I will contest or not,” he said.

“Ekiti state needs a man of integrity, values and decorum as the governor. Under our watch, Ekiti state will experience clear developmental and infrastructure gains. Our policies shall be centered on empowering Ekiti people financially.

“Our vision is to make Ekiti State a reference point in Nigeria in the areas of Agriculture, Technology, Education, Healthcare delivery, social amenities, industrialization and to ensure financial independence from the Federal Government.”

Williams Ajayi, Ekiti state PDP chairman, said while no aspirant had been endorsed by the secretariat, Adewale was the first to officially express his interest in contesting the next governorship election.

Adewale was the candidate of the PDP for the Lagos west senatorial election in 2015.

kahal29:
SaharaReporters has obtained the full list of occupants of a swanky apartment building in Lagos where operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) found close to $50million last week.

The building, located at 16 Osborne Road in Ikoyi, has nine floors of 19 Apartments and two penthouses. It is owned by a former Peoples Democratic Party chairman, Ahmed Muazu, who retained for himself the penthouses, 10A and B; as well as Apartments 11A and 11B.

Since the raid became public, the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has laid claim to the funds, its Director-General Ayodele Oke saying it was meant for covert operations authorized by President Goodluck Jonathan during his tenure. SaharaReporters, however, reported on Monday that the woman who was discreetly ferrying the money into the apartment in bags was Mr. Oke’s wife, Folashade.

According to the apartment ownership list obtained by SaharaReporters, other owners include:

1A - A former Guaranty Trust Bank chairman, Fola Adeola, who owns Apartment 1A.

1B - Former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi and his wife, who own Apartment 1B.

2A - Ahmed Kida

2B - Ahmed Kida but apartment occupied by Esther Ogbue (a recently retired MD of NNPC)

3A - Kayode Sonaike

3B - Sterling Assets

4A and 4B - Leo Stan Ekeh

5A - Sterling Bank

5B - Damian Dodo, SAN

6A - Mo Abudu

6B - Career Terminal and Logistics Ltd.

7A - Mr. and Mrs. Edo-Osagie (Daughter of PDP Chieftain Anthony Anenih and her husband)

7B - Chobe Ventures Limited (Controlled by Folashade Oke, wife of DG, NIA) apartment where $50m was found by EFCC)

8A - Chikki Foods

8B - Mr. Balogun

9A - Damian Dodo, SAN

9B - Alhaji Tukur

10 A & B - Ahmed Muazu

11 A & B - Ahmed Muazu.

The NIA has claimed that it warehoused the funds at the apartment, which is under the control of the wife of its DG, as a “transit” arrangement, as it planned to move it to a more permanent location.

NRC Recruit: Are we going to continue like this

The recruitment exercise conducted on Thursday, 6th of April, 2017 is just another demonstration of Government incompetency. But one will wonder that despite similar event that had happened in the recent past with NIS , we still have not learnt.
NRC called for Aptitude test ov er jobs advertisement that they have posted for more than six month ago, and still conducted the test woefully. Does that mean six months is not enough for them to prepare?
You know the number of applicants you invited for the test in each zone. Take for instance, Ibadan District that host south west zone only has exam hall with capacity for just 50 candidates. And we had more than seven thousand crowd at the venue for both the invited and gatecrashers.
Now tell me how you intend to conduct such an exam that was scheduled for just one day successfully. It only took God’s grace for another trajedy to have been averted. Though a little number of casualties were also recorded. Should we say Nigerian youth are so unfortunate to have been created in a country such as this?
You have not stated any problem. Was there any casualty, candidates Invited unable to do the test or what? The gate crashers, who Invited them? Definitely not NRC

PoliticsRe: APC, A Ruling Party In Opposition - PDP by qleap2all(m): 10:43pm On Mar 31, 2017
TonyeBarcanista:
Press Statement

March 31, 2017

Re: Nigerians Have Not Forgotten The PDP Years Of The Locust…APC, A Ruling Party In Opposition - PDP

We read with amusement and utter dismay the APC statement in response to our patriotic assessment of its lackluster performance in the last two years.

2. While we have no time to dwell on the internal leadership issues within the PDP in order not to fulfill the desires and aspirations of the APC, we wish to however remind the ‘ruling Party in opposition’ that Nigerians are also aware of the meddlesomeness of the APC in the current leadership issues in the PDP.

3. It has been two years since the ‘Ruling Party in opposition’ took over power in May 2015 and all the APC has done since assumption of office is complaining and whining, instead of governance and delivering to Nigerians its campaign promises.

4. Nigerians have not also forgotten how the APC in opposition politicized all issues of governance without proffering a single solution to any of them, but remained adamant, condemning the sincere policies of previous PDP administration .

5. Nigerians thought the only reply by the APC to our statement of Wednesday, March 29, 2017, would have been for the Party to role out its achievements in the last 2 years instead of another shameless descent into the abyss  of propaganda, blame-game and media trial of previous PDP led administration. However, we are not surprised because the APC has no achievement to flaunt before Nigerians than the boring rehash of what the PDP did or did not do.

6. We still maintained that Nigerians should take critical look at the Mid-Term Report of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan's Administration and compare it to that of the current APC led government and access them on performance and achievements.

7. On the much celebrated anti-corruption fight of the APC, it must be noted that it was previous PDP governments that created and sustained all the institutions for fighting corruption such as the ICPC and the EFCC. Under the PDP administrations most of those who were tried by these agencies were PDP members. There was no effort to shield PDP members from prosecution and investigation as it's the case with the APC Government which has made it a policy to sweep all the dirt of its members under the carpet. Recall the grass cutting allegations against the SGF, the Awards of Contracts to ghost companies by the Federal Government Committee on Northeast, allegation of attempted bribery of Judges by the Minister of Transport and that of Science and Technology, the CBN Forex racketeering and most recently, the DSS indictment of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu and many others.

8. On the War on Boko Haram, the APC spokesman forgot to mention that it was the same weapons bought by previous PDP administration that the Present Government is still using to prosecute the War on insurgency in the Northeast. He also forgot to mention that despite his corruption claim on the PDP led Government, the PDP made Nigeria Economy the largest in Africa and the fastest growing in the world. Where are we now? In less than 2 years, our economy is in recession.

9. May we again remind the APC that the Dollar under the PDP Government was 165 Naira to 1 US Dollar. Today, the difference is there for everyone to see. The 18,000 Naira minimum wage could buy 2 bags of Rice and still had some change in the PDP led government, but today, where are we?

10. Nigerians have never been so hungry in their entire lives, except during the Civil War as seen in the last two years. The APC Spokesman forgot to add that, the Federal Government under the PDP created 500,000 jobs a year for our teeming unemployed youths. Since the APC led Administration took over, more than 4.5 million people have lost their jobs.

11. During the era of the PDP under President Goodluck Jonathan alone, 12 new Universities, and Almajiri schools were established. What is the APC achievement in education, agriculture, sports development, job creation, economy etc,

12. The APC should stop complaining and do what they promised Nigerians. The Party promised to fix Nigeria and solve all the problems in less than two years. All the Party has done is to blame the PDP and give excuse for its failure.

13. Nigerians are no longer excited with the APC's selective fight against corruption when its house is smelling and oozing with the stench of corruption and reckless looting of our common wealth. This reminds us of the Statement credited to Senator Shehu Sani of Kaduna State, that the APC led government is using insecticide to fight corruption when it concerns other Nigerians but using deodorant when it concerns top APC leaders and members.

14. We believe in this Country and will not allow our hard earned democracy to be destroyed by the insensitive and clueless government of the APC.

God bless Nigeria! God bless the PDP!!

Prince Dayo Adeyeye

neoclassical:
I woke up this morning with the news that FCSC has shortlisted lists of successful candidates in the ongoing recruitment exercise by the Commission in various Federal Ministries.

Succinctly, I have a friend who studied Business Administration with 3rd Class, while I have Msc and Bsc (2.1) all in Economics. Both of us applied for the same position (SGL 09) in the Ministry of Trade & Investment. Perhaps, to my greatest perplexity, this guy's name was shortlisted while mine was conspicuously missing. Just a few minutes ago he opened up to me that the father made "some calls" on his behalf prior to this time.

For your information, we are of the same age bracket, applied for same position, from the same State. So what criteria could have been used to disqualify someone with Msc and Bsc (2.1) and someone with a 3rd Class was selected.

Holding other factors constant, I am so happy for him and I am so expectant that mine is coming. But this has kept me in an awe position, as the whole scenario depicts lack of correlation between merit and success in this entity called Nigeria.

WHAT A COUNTRY? So help us God!

pittoilet:
Granted there are some people who will not be happy to see Buhari back, there are still those who are very happy he is back. Here are some categories of such:

1. APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC), the political party to which President Buhari belongs will be quite happy with his return. There had been several insinuations and death rumors. The president's continued absence would have been a serious dent on the party's 'Change' mantra and image.

2. His family

The first family in Nigeria has been under immense pressure, with death rumours flying around. Aisha Buhari, her children and other extended family relations who have been praying are also among the happy ones.

3. His spokesmen

Buhari's spokesmen including his adviser on digital media; Tolu Ogunlesi, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and Femi Adesina will also be relieved and happy to have him back as they have constantly had to battle and counter rumors which started after he overstayed in London.

4. His staff

Another category of people who will be happy Buhari is back is the staff in Aso Rock. Pictures from the welcome he got showed a lot of smiling faces and joy.

5. Nigerians

One of the most stirring stories Nigerians have heard today is that of the watermelon seller who gave his wares to customers for free in celebration of Buhari's return. While not all Nigerians are celebrating so generously, many are happy he is back.
