If she were your sister or daughter will you let her go...
Women should look before they leap.....Know something she will secretly resent you for not letting her go and will eventually leave you

dasparrow: The perils of marrying a Nigerian bred male undecided

If you don't trust your wife, why on earth did you marry her? correct me if I am wrong but should'nt the foundation of marraige be based on TRUST? And then you wonder why the rate of divorce continues to climb in Nigeria. It seems like many of you just rush into marraige not knowing what the institution is really all about.
I seriously don't know why the women bother. . . . .

FoodRe: Grinding Stone, Grinding Machine Or Blender: Which Makes Stew Tastier? by queensmith: 2:42pm On Jun 29, 2012
armyofone: not a fan of blue machine blender. its mix too much stuff into the tomatoes. imagine hidden beans and co together with your tomatoes.
grinding stone ummm i told grandma na punishment. after grinding pepper, your hands will be so sore/hot from pepper.

i don't think any of them make your stew tasty.
your skills in combining the right ingredients/measurement will make your stew kiss
i learnt that the hard way, imagine cooking with your hands burning up!

FoodRe: Grinding Stone, Grinding Machine Or Blender: Which Makes Stew Tastier? by queensmith: 12:14pm On Jun 29, 2012
the grinding stone will make better food for someone like kandikane who likes to eat sand grin grin grin

the second one (whats it called? ero?) is good for that nice whiff of petrol or kerosene in your obe ata grin grin grin

The blender is is a good choice, but becomes a big problem for when you want to use it to mixx cocktails. Your Margarita will be smelling of scotch bonnets. hmm!

I'll go for a blender, or a food processor, its neater and less laborious.
TravelRe: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by queensmith: 12:03pm On Jun 29, 2012
justwise: It certainly does, i can't dismiss that, the school you attended can get you to interview stage or even get you a good job because even the employer might have attended one of redbrick universities, some of these posh-boys are just shallow-minded and can't survive outside their comfort zones. They got no idea how it works in a real world.

Just look at the banks full of posh-boys, making decisions that screws everyone of us, look at Govt front bench full of posh-boys coming up with blunder after blunder.
and this is it, this is the fact of life. We are all skewed towards a tradition and lifestyle that benefits the upper classes. And I agree with you 100% we shouldn't have to base decisions and choices on the 'big boys' and what they are doing.
TravelRe: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by queensmith: 11:07am On Jun 29, 2012
justwise: There is a huge difference between being educated ad having a shiny qualification from a posh school.
. . . . . it's sensitive, I understand that. But does having one not put you at a certain advantage?
HealthRe: Nigeria Has The Highest Sickle Cell Patients In The World! by queensmith:
Now this is just very confusing;
This is what google gives you;
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1046/j.1365-3156.1997.d01-322.x/pdf Hbss carriers low levels of pf in kenya
http://biomed.emory.edu/PROGRAM_SITES/PBEE/pdf/Udhayakumar6.pdf Hbss with significantly fewer levels of malarial parasitameia
http://www.nature.com/ng/journal/v37/n11/abs/ng1660.html This (possibly sheds a little light on things, as the resistance seems to be specific to a certain type of malaria)
This Nigerian paper on the other hand. . . .this is actually very surprising. So now there is a higher risk of malaria with associated with SS.http://www.medwelljournals.com/fulltext/?doi=ijtmed.2011.73.76

I'm missing something here. . . . .I'm going to waste my time finding out what! (you can learn from this place i'm grateful!)
This makes sense,

Similar protection against severe malaria (high parasitemia) is also thought to occur in patients homozygous for sickle cell anemia (HbSS). However, even a mild degree of hemolysis from malarial infection can lead to significant anemia and even death in patients with HbSS.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2722546/
But it still doesn't explain the findings in the Nigerian paper, don't know what to conclude from all this contrasting information.
HealthRe: Nigeria Has The Highest Sickle Cell Patients In The World! by queensmith: 9:37am On Jun 29, 2012
Abali1: You can as well use good old google. Malaria and typhoid are the common sicknesses that can send a sickler to his grave if not well treated.
The high fever as a result of malaria leads to break down of the red blood cell, and remember that a sickler already have some of his RBC mutated due to the sickling of his RBC. Moreover most drugs used to treat malaria are strong anti biotics which also leads to more breaking down of the RBC.

My dear, I ve lived with SCD for over 30 years and I know what i'm talking about. You can equally visit the centre opposite LUTH and make your enquiries.
the problem is most of these journals focus on the trait rather than the disease.

It doesn't make any sense, if carrying one trait offers partial immunity (to specific types of malaria). Then how does being homozygous to the SS gene not offer full protection. Now hearing malaria is a big killer of people with SS is just absolutely confusing.

Don't worry I am on google scholars case!

justwise: That is a bit vain to me, its a class/snobbish attitude thing.
I know, but for educational purposes I don't see anything wrong with it?
HealthRe: Nigeria Has The Highest Sickle Cell Patients In The World! by queensmith: 9:02am On Jun 29, 2012
Abali1: i have SCD, and i have researched well into the facts, fiction and myths of SCD. Your average of mid 20s is a myth jus like abiku phenomenon. You can ask any doctor, malaria is in the top 5% killer sickness of SCD patients.
really? Can you give me a link?
