I studies at the university of Portsmouth which is currently number 78. 60% of guys and girls i know have all gotten jobs in our respective fields. Thats from a school which is currently number 78. You read about the girl from Birmingham University ranked number 22 that was not able to get a job.She blames the government for not getting a job. School like Cambridge , London school of economics , oxford and imperial college are on a different league.Yes, we know but that does not guarantee you a job.I know lots of people always complain "i wish i went to a better school, maybe i would have gotten a job" .The main reason some people don't get jobs is their CV. not schools. I don't think most organization care about what school you went to. It's what you can do on the job and you have to prove that during interviews. That Life. Besides in UK, some Companies don't care about degrees. I remember going for interview and i was sitting down with high school students who never went to universities but did apprenticeship or gathered work experience. I went there thinking with my masters,i will beat this guys. Guess what? One of the high school boys got the job. It made me think back again to see where i went wrong.Degree are just papers if you do not know what you are preparing yourself to face in the real world. Thats what i learn. went back and i started doing self study and learning about my field in the real world. That was when i got a job. Seriously i would tell you. Its not about degree or where you got your degree, its about how you can persuade recruiters and employers that you are good for the job.Once you get a job in your field. with your degree and experience, you can always move to top organizations.
I understand this is a sensitive issue. Bottom line is faced with the opportunities and armed with potential, people should try their very best to get into the most prestigious institutions. If not for anything just to rub shoulders with the big boys. |
I want a doctor's opinion on this cuz a certified doctor told me that due to the sickle nature of the red blood cells of anaemic people, the plasmodium of mosquito CNT survive in them which makes such people immune to malaria;that AS are even more immune to diseases than AA.dont we have doctors on NL ?
LOL- you are right I don't know where he's getting his information from. SS carriers cannot get malaria. hence the selective advantage. |
Abali1: Queensmith, there is no correct life expectancy age for an SCD patient. If a sickler understands his or her system and adhere stricktly to those medications that help him or her keep fit, then the person can well hope to live fulfilled life well into his or her 80s. Recently the sun newspaper carried a story of a woman with SCD who is into her 80s and she is still kicking and alive.Thats untrue- I go with the mid 20s average, i believe that's correct. It simply defines the average life expectancy of those that have the disease, it doesn't mean everyone with SS will die at that age. |
Abali1: And who says that SCD patients are prone to die in their twenties... please remove that concept from your mind. I agree that with better medical care SCD patients will live a more fulfilled life.Is that not one of the things they use to 'create awareness' of the disease back home? They say all sorts of things, they cant be tall, they all have yellow eyes, they can't kids. When I have a 5'10 model friend with SS who recently gave birth to a healthy boy. and please if you are going to correct me replace it with the correct life expectancy. The one in my mind might not be true but the belief will be propagated as long as Nigeria fails to provide concrete medical facts. |
miky: actually most blacks are heterozygous carriers of the sickle cell gene,, it has nothing to do with facilities...its a mutation that an advantage to malaria, thats why most whites die of malaria in africa "the term white man grave yard" should ring bells, especially for the gulf of guniea when they ran patrol around the slave coast "Nigeria"...however if u happen to be a homozygous, chances are that you would die of sickle cell, its all genes and luck...God bless you, i was literally going to start crying if someone didn't mention this. Given the history of infant mortality, and the abiku phenomenon that someone mentioned. It only makes sense most will carry the traits. It's a selective advantage. They should be working more on the malaria problem we have! They need to start investing in better treatment of these patients, the prevalence isn't going away any time soon. They should be catering for them there is no need for them to be dying in their early 20s. The world has advanced beyond that point. If a country like England can provide better treatment for a disease that isn't even endogenous to it's own type of people then I don't see why Nigeria cannot. |
adenuga- oil Ibrahim- all sorts of nonsense Dangote- Household bits and bobos hmm- I'll give it to Dangote, I want to imagine the contestants making their own brand of cement. . . . then trying to sell it in oshodi. . . .that will make good television! ![]() |
tunnytox: Those names are not Yoruba names, they are names adopted by some Yoruba families during their dealings with the Europeans long time ago. Family names like Coker, Da Silva and Fernandez are very popular mostly with Lagosians and Egba people.they are definitely not yoruba names you are right, thats why i have to ask what tribe they are from lol. Da-silva, you even reminded me, that one wins the prize for weird ass naija name. esp in london. da silva's are everywhere!
Like Macaulay.
i even forgot about this one. what kind of surname. and the person will now be called stephanie macaulay? and she will be nigerian? You cant blame me for asking what tribe! lol |
lol- i'm not as bad as most here joor, the stewpid idiot that calls himself sexkillz claims he banned us for derailing. meanwhile there are members that constantly troll and never have anything sensible to contribute. what is that if not derailing. At the same time half of those in the conversation were left alone? anyways it's not surprising, it's a nigerian website is it not? it's subject to nigerian behavior. . . .absolute coonery. |
@ Queensmith, i dont get u right. What does cooking beans for the twins and distribute it has to do with? Its all about what? What about if i have twins and i intentionaly dont want to cook any beans, some people said bad thing will happen to the parents. Is this true?
I think it's just their religion, they believe if they don't do it the twins will die. No I don't think it means anything will happen to the parents, they do it to keep the children alive. Who can blame them with infant mortality rates in that country. They resort to all sorts to keep their children safe. Sensible and otherwise. Of course it's not true, the tradition has been abandoned for a very long time now. Very few practice it. But everyone is entitled to their beliefs lol. |
In this day and age- these things should't be happening. Did you consult your husband well enough on how you guys will handle finances if you quit your job? Was your pregnancy planned? Have you finished learning the trade? He probably can't afford it and is now being resentful, of course it's fun taking care of someone when they can take care of them self but when the person becomes a needy dependant it takes the fun out ![]() It's a shame he abandoned his baby, you need to talk to him and try and resolve the matter. Ask him if he's prepared to be a father even if he no longer wants the marriage, so you can at least put the childs needs ahead and sort out your romantic lives later on. I keep saying women need to think long and hard, pregnancy isn't easy, neither is childbirth, or even child rearing, one needs to be 101% sure her husband is worth the hassle. |
my fellow cassava farmers this is our year. . . . . get your fertilizers out! ![]() |
i've always wondered what will happen to these cars if something were to go wrong. lol- it's quite dangerous though. These cars are full of all sorts of electronics, cant the driver get electrocuted? |
tunnytox: Give us examples of such odd names pleaseThese names of cigarettes and beer is one- I've seen benson, rogers, coker, johnson, (im sure theres guinness) doherty. All sorts of scottish names, Mckaine is definitely the oddest one i've come across. |
The guy sounds childish. . . . . he's your husband manage him like that. kpele shoo gbo. ![]() I do not respond well to controlling men, I will probably be the incommunicado one in this situation (who wants to continuously be pestered about his/her job?) I thought ones partner was meant for support not giving you headache. |
lol- well if i knew why i'd understand. this isn't the first time i've been banned. . . . beginning to wonder if they are subtly trying to chase me away from this site. . . . . . .theres always the student room sha. . . . .and facebook. . . . .i still need to check out naija village square.. . . . . |
twins are a blessing. . . . . .please God I dont want twins ooo i'm just saying they are a blessing! if i remember correctly there are different types of twins, ibeji onijo- where the mother dances around the market and collects money with the twins on her back. ibeji oni rice- for their first birthday you make rice. . . .maybe jollof rice i don't remember sef and the one you mentioned- for the twins first birthday you prepare beans and distribute it to everyone. I think they consult with ifa or something to find out. Twins in their own right are blessings, what greater love can one have than with a twin, it's lovely. I love them. I think they should focus on the twins than all these fetishes jare, it's a waste of resources. especially the dancing around the market |
i was banned from the romance section, |
only god knows if half the soo called credentials of all these presidents are true- wasn't there controversy over Obama's credentials not long ago too? It's all a bunch of hogwash. Fortunately for them, 99% of the nations they are hogwashing are complete ***** that will never seek to know the truth. How can asking whether one was taught by the current president now a reason to rain insults? Obviously because he didn't teach anybody, once again the president has taken us for a ride. I respect him oooo, and any other man that does so for that matter. Fooling 150 million people cannot be easy. . . .. . . . . . .or maybe it can! |
Who is the person? Come and confess your sins now!!! |
ahhhhhh. You're O.Y.O o lol. Best bet is their "Complaint thread". If it's something petty, just send an email, no need with the public member-Mod fight lol
its petty but i must insult them nontheless. |
Shame on all these tribalists on NL.
i always do that, but only when i hear a funny name. Like Daphne Mckaine. What kind of Nigerian name is that? I've heard some very very odd Nigerian surnames I have to ask where it's from. Not out of tribalism just curiosity. Weirdest thing is that most of these odd odd surnames are yoruba. |
i want to insult them publicly. |
SEFAGO: I haven't found an independence source yet either. I don't think he got a 3.98 what happened is he got a 3.98 in his major (neuroscience) and his overall GPA was less but sufficient to place him in Phi Beta Kappa (top 10 percent) in the whole university. If he had a full 3.98 he will be valedictorian of his class. I just don't trust nigerian newspapers they have the tendency to overreportso is it a major thing all together or just major for a black person? |
seriously how do i get a message to the romance mods, i want to insult them now before i get over it. |
looool kandikane gives me jokes!! Theres a name for it Pica, its normally children that have it seems you havent gottem over yours! lol At least it's sand and not sh*t. |
if you say so. |
"Pay a lot of money for sexx"? Maybe campus girls?
Sexx is a transaction back home- every woman is a potential prostitute. Sex for grades, sex for hair, sex for credit. A financial reward is expected, that is generally the culture. |
and if fashola does something now, Nigerians will hold Banky W accountable for it. I have said too many times these celebrities need to stop associating themselves with politicians. Not with the way Nigerian politics roll anyways. Then again it makes sense, Banky W is a platform to engage the youths. nice. I will love to meet Fashola, I'm going to look out for him. |
Really? You don't hear how women use sexx back home for everything? hmmm. |
There was this nonsense self declared prophetess in America who ill advisably wrote a book and spoke about how God exonerated her from divorce. . . . . she must think every woman is stewpid. I had to throw the book away, I was insulted. Sometimes these soo called men of god try to take someone for a ride. It's hilarious, but the're making money so one cannot blame them. If the work of the Lord wasn't soo prosperous alot of people wouldn't be doing it. Times are hard, recession is affecting everybody you can't blame the husla's out there ![]() |
Excuzeme:it's not as if you've made half the sense the poster you quoted made. Nigerian men pay alot of money for sex, there wouldn't be need to reward the women if the women were enjoying it? no? Every body should be responsible for their actions, there is no way to justify abandoning your responsibilities. Especially when it involves a pregnant woman and an unborn child. and I agree with you one thing, I don't know why the women bother I swear, the men aren't worth the trouble. Look at the way they treat and speak to their women? Why on earth will you get pregnant for that? It's ridiculous. |
