Poultry industry in Nigeria right now is a shambles. Huge, huge starting cost and very low return due to cost of feed and relatively low cost of eggs and low demand. Don't even let me start on broiler production; that one is death trap. All in all, Sunk nearly 10m and no break-even point in sight let alone making profit. I am even one of the luckiest as no outbreak has been recorded so far in my farm. GO TO CANADA!

Are you in the farm managing it or you have people doing the management for you? If it's the 2nd options.. Then your farm need a good management

Evening everyone, I’m a young guy of about 22 and i graduated in 2021 from Delsu, after which I traveled to Cape Town last year and got a 3 years residency permit but I’m currently in Nigeria because the rent was too high and I wasn’t doing anything other than staying at home daily and money wasn’t coming in anymore like it used to so I went back to Nigeria.

Now I’m trying to figure out if it’s best I travel to Canada to further my studies basically work and study or stay back home here in Nigeria and start an extensive agricultural project; livestock’s & poultry(I’ve lands for that already)

Guys pls help me out I’m just so confused I just sit at home everyday doing nothing while I’m waiting for this Nysc letter it’s so boring.

If you are comfortable in terms of finance, I will advice you to start a good integrated Agric farm not just only poultry. You will really make it big with time and passion.

You can never force people to go to farm. Even here in the north, people don’t want to farm anymore. Buhari try this for 8years and he fail, he thought if youth starve they will go back to farm but they didn’t. Nobody have monopoly of anybody destiny. The best thing is for the government to cut customs duty or remove any levy on all this imported goods, open our border for goods and food. Customs duty are too much for all this product

Price of food is going up in 3month time things we be expensive. Agriculture is the way to go

Farming is expensive too.One needs a land.You go provide one?Abi na person land you won encroach upon?
What about weed control?That one has gone up.A litre of herbicide is #4000.What about the crops.Do you know how many months it will take for a cassava to grow for harvest?You never farm recently that is why.

We you are right, concerning the land you can source for a cheap land or worst case plant using sack and rubber in the little space around you.. The main aim is to produce what you can eat to reduce cost especial vegetables

This is one of the major reason we all need to go back to farming else It will be difficult and tough.

Even in your small space you can plant some basic vegetables like the pepper or tomato for your consumption. So land is not a problem

both are profitable, infact all crop farming is profitable it depends on your management and how much you can quickly discover if a crop is not doing well and you know what to apply.

Big money was sunk into that farm,

Of course, it's more like a permanent project.

With the cost of tomato this period the farm should be making a lot already...

She is from the south south, I never know we can farm tomato in the south.

She also have a pepper farm too and I was inform pepper are getting scares and expensive this period.

Some state do have their farms I have seen government farms in Rivers state but they end up no functioning again. Guess due to mismanagement of the resources and farm

Our mothers in those olden days are farmers so no like I don't believe in women going into farming rather the dimension is encouraging

I visited one of the biggest tomato and pepper farm in Nigeria, Rivers state and I was really wow and shock what I saw😮 and guess what? It is own by a lady :I unbelievable.

So I got myself a sprayer and decided to do some DIY cos I can't trust anyone to do a more thorough job for me. The first time I fumigated the interior part of the building, the pesticide forced a little black snake to creep from the staircase landing area where we kept shoes and other items ....it jumped downstairs and then disappeared into the Bush. It was a very scary experience, I must confess and I imagined what would have happened if this thing had found its way inside any of the living rooms.
