GET HARD right? so you support the killing of unarmed youth by the NA? In a sane clime, teargas would have been used to disperse those protesters instead of using gun against them.
Secondly, His wife and son was killed and some of his followers. I never said that Sheik Zakzaky is 100 percent right, but my point is that the NA never handled the situation properly.
It is a foolish youth whether armed or unarmed that would tell the chief of the army not pass a federal road, it is a mad youth that the army would persuade for 20 mins to let their oga pass and he still no gree and it is a terrorist that would attempt to harm the head of a nation's army. People living in that area has said they are armed and they have been doing it for years. Abacha even had to deal with them once and the army did the same last year.
What if it is you and your family that wanted to pass and they say no and you insisted, what do you think they would do to my family. They are not innocent at all. And for your information, soldiers don't go around with tear gas and rubber bullets, they are not the damn police.

"IFF" that landlord was actually responsible for raping her, l guess he should spend the next TWENTY YEARS in jail, at the least.

But l find a lot of "red flags" in this story
And when l find red flags in stories like "Rape", my first inclination is "Justice must be done but an innocent man must not be punished"
.

at 14 yrs.
She was raped three times... and never told her mother? (let us leave such fathers who was never around to look after their children, for now)
She was able to SUCCESSFULLY LIE and push the blame on a classmate... to the POLICE, even under interrogation!
The Rapist was caught (not Christopher!) and was being taken to the Police station but was rescued by Hoodlums and "taken away"?
She was after then kidnapped by another set of Rapist (Three in number) who raped her all night!
Now, the Landlord again raped her and she fainted

Hmm... too many gaps, too many possibilities!
I am not saying she was not raped ... but l am wondering of the Landlord was the culprit and if this is not just an excuse to settle old scores like a Landlord/Tenant dispute.

The Police need to properly connect the dots and establish beyond doubt, that the Landlord actually raped her.
RAPE, especially of an under-age, is a very serious offence, even the death penalty will not be too much

Just my take.

Lastpage!

Caveat: That l dont join your bandwagon of "crucify him" without proper investigation, does not mean you should insult me.
It simply means we dont belong on the same "strata of intelligence"
You dont ask people not to insult you when you started the poking.

Your red flags are actually blue flags or whatever colour but not red. Read the story again. Twice it was mentioned in the story that the suspect, the landlord Christopher was arrested and detained by the police which led to the animosity of other tenants towards the victim's family. Apparently some area boyz sympathetic to the elderly landlord (probably friends of the landlord's son or boys under the man's guidance, this is fadeyi, area boys rule here) took revenge on the girl and raped her. One of these boyz was then apprehended and while enroute to the station was rescued by his gang. This is a typical fadeyi/mushin area boys method. They do things with impunity.

The story might be true or untrue but it is not inconsistent.

Jeez man! Are you saying that slavery, the practice or system of owning slaves, was a good thing in the Old testament? That slavery for a certain number of years is something to applaud? You think slavery is justified if the people enslaved are treated well?

I personally find it nauseating reading your post.
You need a stronger stomach..lol

Today when someone steals money and is unable to pay back..what do you do to the person....we put him in prison.....where he is worse off than a slave...the biblical option is to work/slave for not more than 6 years. You are fixated with the word slave...you can be a worker and be treated worse than a slave...slaves in Israel are not kidnapped or stolen men nor are they enslaved but are free-born who decide to become slaves out of their own volition to get out of their present predicament...and most importantly they are treated fairly unlike what we know of slavery generally.

Rabzy bro...been ages! I'm well, thank you! How are you?

Oh yeah, still trying to see reason as to why people believe in absurdities. Can you blame me after being in the charade for such a long time? Guess I'm making up for lost time. Who knows, maybe...just maybe Yahweh will arrest me like he did Paul The Apostle. Not that I will hold my breath, he's known for not showing up. grin grin grin

I'm a very bothered by the way you have gone about defending slavery in the bible. Is it that you have not read the text or you have wilfully decided not to look at the atrocities?

Well, let's see the following together:

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)

You see, many and Christians will try to ignore the moral problems of slavery by saying that these slaves were actually servants or indentured servants. Many translations of the Bible use the word "servant", "bondservant", or "manservant" instead of "slave" to make the Bible seem less immoral than it really is. While many slaves may have worked as household servants, that doesn't mean that they were not slaves who were bought, sold, and treated worse than livestock. The passage above shows that slaves are clearly property to be bought and sold like livestock.

The following passage describes how the Hebrew slaves are to be treated.

If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.' If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever. (Exodus 21:2-6 NLT)

Notice how they can get a male Hebrew slave to become a permanent slave by keeping his wife and children hostage until he says he wants to become a permanent slave. What kind of family values are these?

The following passage describes the sickening practice of sex slavery. How can anyone think it is moral to sell your own daughter as a sex slave?

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment.
(Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

So these are the Bible family values! A man can buy as many sex slaves as he wants as long as he feeds them, clothes them, and screws them!

Hi Joseph, how are you doing today. lets look at what you wrote and how slaves are actually treated in Israel. In Exodus (Exodus 21:16) 16 “If anyone kidnaps a man and sells him or is caught holding him, he must be put to death. It is clearly stated that no Israelite should kidnap a man and sell him. So you cant just seize people either Israelite or foreign resident and sell him. That was ruled out. So what could make someone become a slave?

1. A person found guilty of stealing who was unable to make full restitution according to the Law could be sold as a slave and in this way pay off his debt. (Exodus 22:3) When he had worked off the debt, he could go free.

2.If an Israelite becomes poor and cannot sustain himself or his family, there is the provision for him to sell himself to a wealthy Israelite or even a foreigner, and he can get his freedom back by paying back his loan or after 6 years.

Since you can't seize a man and sell, that means the foreigner must have willingly sold himself out of extenuating circumstances...the difference with the foreigner is that he cant leave or buy himself back except if the master does so. The foreigner must weigh the decision carefully.
But both the indigene and foreigner were never sold nor treated like livestock as you said. Livestock never have say nor sell themselves willingly. See what the Bible said about how to slaves must be treated.

(Leviticus 25:39, 40) 39 “‘If your brother who lives nearby becomes poor and he has to sell himself to you, you must not force him to do slave labor. 40 He should be treated like a hired worker, like a settler. He should serve with you until the Jubilee year.
(Leviticus 25:49, 50) . . .Or if he himself has become wealthy, he may also buy himself back. 50 He should calculate with his purchaser the time from the year he sold himself to him until the Jubilee year, and the money of his sale will correspond to the number of years. His workdays during that time will be assessed at the rate of a hired worker. . ..

A slave must be treated as hired worker and his work should also be rated with the same pay as a hired worker, so regardless of whether they are household servants or field workers, they are to be treated as hired help and their work rated properly...you cant honestly say this is how livestock are treated or how slavery was done by surrounding nations even till date.
Cruel and abusive slavery was not allowed under God’s Law to Israel. While masters were allowed to discipline their slaves, excesses were forbidden.
A slave killed by his master was to be avenged. (Exodus 21:20) If the slave was maimed, losing a tooth or an eye, he was set free.—Exodus 21:26, 27.
This definitely does not connote a dehumanization or the kind of slavery we had in the trans-Atlantic or trans-Saharan slave trade.

When an Israelite slave was released, the master was required to be generous toward him. Deuteronomy 15:13, 14 says: “In case you should send him out from you as one set free, you must not send him out empty-handed. You should surely equip him with something from your flock and your threshing floor and your oil and winepress.”

In case of an Israelite man getting married to a woman provided by his master..he has a choice to wait for 6 years and be free and therefore not be indebted to his master forever by marrying the foreign woman provided. The foreign woman is suppose to be in owners house forever by law, her been given to an a willing Israelite man does not change that. If the man does not love his master or does not want to continue serving in that house, he can rightly remove the woman, and to prove that it was something that was done willingly, the owner has to bring him before witnesses in the house of God and make it a public and official by piercing the ear. So there is no case of kidnapping here or using subterfuge to hold him perpetually a slave.

The Bible clearly stated that all Israelite men and women, who stole or sold themselves must be freed after 6 years. Apparently there is another arrangement in which an indebted man will sell/give out his daughter with the view for the man to marry her himself if she is suitable to his liking. In the event the lady is not suitable, he cannot sell her to a foreigner but allow her to be bought back. He can alternatively give her to his son as his legal wife and she ceases to be a slave girl but a daughter to him. In both cases of either himself marrying her or his son, the woman has the full rights of a wife.

PREDICTIONS: SCIENCE VS RELIGION

"Enormous Asteroid Discovered Last Week Will Whizz Past Earth On Halloween"
http://www.iflscience.com/space/halloween-asteroids-are-not-scaring-us

Religious books & prophets predict. Their predictions differ from scientific predictions in an obvious way. Above is a scientific prediction released on 20th October, 2015. Precise. Mentions the exact name of the event & the exact time it will happen.

Actually, prophets don't predict. They make ambiguous statements that are later picked up by their believers & twisted to look like they were predictions for the event. Imagine some prophet 5,000 years ago saying something like the following:

'There shall be a great danger in the heavens and my faeces shall pass over the earth'

Of course, as science makes this prediction, the faithfuls of this prophet would simply go into their book, read out the above statement & conclude that it was a prediction for the asteroid that will pass the earth on Halloween.

They'd go like 'an asteroid movement is a great danger in the heavens & asteroids are God's faeces & God's faeces passing by the earth is an allegory for the asteroid passing by the earth.' All of a sudden, whatever Stephen Hawking is just saying has been predicted by our prophet 5,000 years prior. Therefore, our god is real.
You see now? Make an ambiguous general statement & years, centuries or millenia after, the statement can fit in into just about any contemporary event.

I don't call such predictions. I call them retrospective linking of irrelevant statements to events. Science doesn't make such predictions. Scientific predictions are precise & on-point.
and can also be very wrong and way off the target.

How are you doing today.....still snipping and chipping away people's faith in a supreme being eh?...lol.

Saw a picture about slavery which interested me...asking why the Bible did not condemn slavery...its because slavery as practiced by the Israelite or according to the mosaic law is not the same as slavery today. In fact slaves in the Niger-delta of old are handled quite differently from how slavery was practiced in the plantations of America. So you have to look as the word 'slave' with respects to the culture where it is practiced r how it was practiced.

The picture, sound, suspence (although a lot was killed quickly), drama, comedy, knowledge.. etc, are just exeptional.. Although I expected the movie will focus on the event of oct 1st well but it didn't and just more or less talked about some random things that happened during this period, whichever way, the movie was great. I love the actors and actresses picked oh my Gosh!! The inspector is a top class actor, sergent afonja (oh my God I love him), Ropo was just top class and Tawa (My God I have a crush on this woman).. Even Kunle didn't take my heart with his acting like these people I mentioned.

The only thing I don't like the movie is the controversy that surrounds it.. you can't make a movie this good and make certain sects hate it. The reverend father's homosexualitu acts was unnecessary as it may be spoiling the image of "All reverend fathers today".. there are better ways to show the struggle people faced to acquire western education in the past.

All in all, its a very wonderful movie that everyone needs to see.. I rate it 8/10
Rubbish, reverend fathers raping boys is a reoccurring theme in movies all over the world and in the news. The pope is still apologizing all over the place for the randy fathers.

There are so much assumptions in your writeup that one would think that you were there when God was making all these things happen. If the sun, moon and stars had existed as planetary bodies before Genesis 1, why would there be darkness on earth? Why would he need to create light into existence before there would be day and night?

This writeup lacks substance. The apologists you quoted have a poor grasp of the hebrew language that the Old Testament was written in and your submission is even at variance with their explanation.

What you have up there is your own interpretation that is not supported except by your mind, and you have no evidence to tell us that they happened in the same sequence as you posited.
What i wrote was quoted from the Bible, The first thing God said was 'let there be light'. I didn't write that. So whether the light came from his eyeballs, or it shined forth from his teeth is a different thing, the sequence of events says there was light before vegetation. That is the substance.
The Bible 'six' days creation only detailed the preparation of the earth, the heavens (stars, moon, galaxies) had all being created before the commencement of the 'six' days. The creation of the planet earth, the land that rose from the waters and the water itself have all existed before the 'six days' preparatory work of God. These can all be inferred from the Bible. The Bible says the earth was formless and void, desolate, what does that bring to mind. We don't know what kind of gases was enveloping the earth such that it shielded light from passing through. Even right now its not all the 'light' from the sun that gets to the earth, there are layers of atmosphere/gas that shields some rays from getting to us. Scientist even says that we are receiving less sun light because of pollutants in the air, so just imagine an earth that is desolate and void formless.
Christianity EtcRe: My Thoughts And Questions About Religion by rabzy: 3:10pm On Aug 26, 2015
joseph1013:
You are grasping at straws. Herein lies another inaccuracy of the Bible. The heavens are not stretched out over EMPTY space. The space is not empty! Research that...

And you are twisting it. When scientists say the universe is expanding, they are not saying that it is stretching. It is not stretching. What scientists are saying is that more distant galaxies are moving away from us faster than closer ones. I repeat, they are not stretching. The Bible knows nothing about astronomies.
I don't know what straws you are talking about, just because the bible said empty space, you have to say space is not empty. There is nothing else that can be emptier than space. This is what science says:

Vacuum is space void of matter. Outer space is the closest natural approximation of a perfect vacuum. It has effectively no friction, allowing stars, planets and moons to move freely along ideal gravitational trajectories. But no vacuum is truly perfect, not even in intergalactic space where there are still a few hydrogen atoms per cubic centimeter. (For comparison, the air we breathe contains about 1019 molecules per cubic centimeter.) According to modern understanding, even if all matter could be removed from a volume, it would still not be "empty" due to vacuum fluctuations, dark energy, transiting gamma- and cosmic rays, neutrinos, along with other phenomena in quantum physics.

So if there is anywhere that can be said to be empty it is space. I don't know why you want to dwell in the realms of absolute. If you say space is not empty, then you would have to tell your wife anytime she says the tank is empty that, no it is not empty but there are billions of dust particles, petrol residues, and billions of microbes, no plate can be empty, no room or bag...empty as a word would have to be unused. Everyday life is not about dark matter and black holes and electromagetism occupying all space, that is why empty is valid and the Bible is right by saying empty space.

The Book of Job says the earth hangs upon nothing and it is valid and true. The last time i checked, expand and stretch are still synonyms of each other, the bible said God stretches the heaven in space, scientist says it is expanding. To an observer in the universe, it is expanding, the person applying the force that causes the expansion can say he is doing the stretching. The nitty gritty and minute details of how and why it is expanding is the job of the scientist. The Bible was not written to explain science nor astronomy, so it might not used the exact words scientist may want it to use. It uses expressions understandable to all. Its astronomy is still valid.

What you have written above is called gibberish. Which God is the support? How has God demonstrated that he is the support of the earth? You talk of when the Earth quake, does he mean he no longer supports when there is earthquake? If he indeed is the pillar as you posited, is he not strong enough in support for thousands to die via earthquakes every year.

For your information, that verse does not say God is the pillar. it says God holds the PILLARS, meaning there are pillars. Stop changing the CONTENT of these verses.
I never said the verse is saying God is the Pillar, i said God is the one supporting the pillars so he is the ultimate support, just as most pillars rest on the foundation. I didn't change anything. The Bible using the pillar is a figurative sense and its not literal, for it to have literal pillars, then that means God is also literally holding it in his hands. It is a figurative use of language. The Bible talked about the seas having bars and doors, the snow having storehouses and uses other symbolic and figurative terms to pass its message across
And God is still supporting the earth with his powers such that no quake has actually destroyed the planet. He never said there would be no quake, but that he would be there to support it, no quake would be strong enough to topple the earth, destroy it, moved, make it to totter on its foundation...New International Version
He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.
Holman Christian Standard Bible
He established the earth on its foundations; it will never be shaken.
International Standard Version
He established the earth on its foundations, so that it never falters.
NET Bible
He established the earth on its foundations; it will never be upended.

So talking about pillars, bars and doors does not mean there are actually pillars. The Bible said the earth is God's footstool also, does it mean he has his hands on the pillars and his legs resting on the earth?. You can take it as literal but i believe it to be a figurative expression and there are thousands in the Bible.

The Bible is a book written for men and in a way that people can understand. In fact some terms can be best understood if you know the terms or the idioms of the language in which it was written. The angels holding the ends of the earth has its meaning and it is well understood. Just as when someone says 'your life is in my hands' 'i am the one that made you' 'he is holding the tiger by the tail' 'When America sneezes the world catch cold'. These are physically impossible but idiomatically understandable.

We all know by virtue of scientific breakthroughs that these all are false. But we can forgive medieval men who wrote the Bible for thinking they are true. Right?
This is just a feeble attempt to look for errors where there are none. The first verse was talking about the ground, the firma terra. The preceding verse talked about the earth or land and all its inhabitants, the land and all its inhabitants are all resting upon the seas and oceans. That's a statement of fact. In Genesis the earth or rather the productive land, the earth's crust was raised up from the depths of the oceans and came to lie or rest on the sea.

Yes the Bible was written in medieval times and has to speak in language that people would understand, it does not have to speak in scientific terms. In the Psalms 75:3 it is not talking about what the planet earth rests upon, it used pillars as a figurative sense. Pillar is the support of buildings and God is saying when the earth quakes and people tremble, it is he himself that holds the support. He is the ultimate support for the earth and all its inhabitants. These are idioms and illustrations for people to understand and figures of speech to make a lasting impression on people. Till date scientists still talk about sun rise and sun set but we all know the sun does not rise nor does it set. So if someone says meet at sunset, we know what that means even though the sun actually does not set.

We talk about the four cardinal points of the earth, there are no such points, they are just reference points for directions. We all talk about North, South East and West. Everywhere is north of a place and south of a place. But for easy understanding and to set directions, we choose a place as the 'true north'. Longitudes and lats are imaginary lines but they are part of our everyday speech. The angels standing at the four corners of the earth is the same as this. I didn't learn about the four cardinal points from the Bible, i learnt it from a geography which is a branch of science. And till date it is still being taught.
In fact the Bible mentions what is physically holding the earth in place...(Job 26:7) "He stretches out his heavens over empty space. He hangs the earth on nothing whatsoever. This was written at a time when alchemists believed fantastic stories about what the earth is resting upon. The verse even said he stretches the heavens, thousands of years later scientists has discovered that the universe is actually spreading, expanding or stretching. Brilliantly 3 scientists calculated the expansion rate and were given nobel prizes. I guess that's some brilliant science from the Bible for you there.

There was no vegetation before sunlight. There was the sun before the Vegetations. What Genesis detailed was the preparation of the earth for human habitation. The sun, moon and stars including the earth has existed as planetary bodies.

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was formless and desolate, and there was darkness upon the surface of the watery deep
, and God’s active force was moving about over the surface of the waters.

This means the sun and moon and earth existed, but there evidently were fumes and clouds covering the surface of the earth making it desolate and dark.
When God said on Day One, “Let light come to be,” diffused light evidently penetrated the cloud layers even though the sources of that light could not yet be discerned from the earth’s surface. It seems that this was a gradual process, as is indicated by translator J. W. Watts: “And gradually light came into existence.” (Ge 1:3, A Distinctive Translation of Genesis) God brought about a division between the light and the darkness, calling the light Day and the darkness Night. This indicates that the earth was rotating on its axis as it revolved around the sun, so that its hemispheres, eastern and western, could enjoy periods of light and darkness.—Ge 1:3, 4.

That light would be sufficient for the vegetation that came on the third day. So there was light before vegetation.

In Genesis 1:14, that verse was now talking about the source of light.

And God saith, 'Let luminaries be in the expanse of the heavens, to make a separation between the day and the night, then they have been for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years.

Previously, on the first “day,” the expression “Let light come to be” was used. The Hebrew word there used for “light” is ʼohr, meaning light in a general sense. But on the fourth “day,” the Hebrew word changes to ma·ʼohr′, which refers to a luminary or source of light. (Ge 1:14) So, on the first “day” diffused light evidently penetrated the swaddling bands, but the sources of that light could not have been seen by an earthly observer. Now, on the fourth “day,” things evidently changed.
It is also noteworthy that at Genesis 1:16 the Hebrew verb ba·raʼ′, meaning “create,” is not used. Instead, the Hebrew verb ʽa·sah′, meaning “make,” is employed. Since the sun, moon, and stars are included in “the heavens” mentioned in Genesis 1:1, they were created long before Day Four. On the fourth day God proceeded to “make” these celestial bodies occupy a new relationship toward earth’s surface and the expanse above it. When it is said, “God put them in the expanse of the heavens to shine upon the earth,” this would indicate that they now became discernible from the surface of the earth, as though they were in the expanse. Also, the luminaries were to “serve as signs and for seasons and for days and years,” thus later providing guidance for man in various ways.

How can you use that excuse? Wasn't slave trade in the constitution in the past before it was repealed? Were black men not to marry whites in the constitution? Were women not supposed to vote in the constitution in the past? All these were ruled out before sufficient arguments were made to the effect that it was not the right thing to do. What you just attempted to do is called playing the victim. If you bring facts to the table and convince the judges, you will be helped accordingly.

How do you think it can be explored more than it was explored? One of the best places, and perhaps the best place, for cross-examination is the Court of Law. You bring your facts to the table and you defend them. That's why the court of law is said to be the last hope of the common man.

The major players of Intelligent design in the World were brought forward to testify. I can bet that those of Creationalism who appeared in that case are more knowledgeable than you about Intelligent design. They have written books that you lots refer to and hold as sacred. They have been interviewed on International TV. They have donw documentaries and have foundations committed to Intelligent design. But upon close scrutiny they fell like pack of cards. Their facts were no longer facts. They resorted to half-truths and outright lies.

Are you aware that the court case was not a one day affair? It went on for months and various experts were interviewed on the subject. They brought evidences and they were eventually found out to be shams.

They could not have done better than they did from their weak position.

And no, evolution is a theory generally accepted in the Scientific world. Any evidence brought forward is not brought to refute it. Any evidence brought is to consolidate on what is already established to be true.
In the realm of science the best place to decide a scientific issue is not in the court of law. Lawyers just wants to win a case whether right or wrong. Judges have dismissed cases just because the evidence was obtained unlawfully. Slave trade is a social issue and the court is the best place to trash it out, you can't debate the superiority of a civil engineering code of design to another or whether a particular medical procedure should be continued or not in a court. It is best done and usually done by scientific bodies who after years of deliberation brings out their findings and recommendation and then adopts a standard. It is not a court matter.

The main issue was whether they can teach creationism in the court of law...the answer is no. The constitution says they cant, because creationism is akin to teaching a particular religion and the US is a secular state. So that is a no no. All the lawyers did was to link the so called expert's text to an earlier creationism text and that was the end of the case. From the clip the scientific basis intelligent design was not explored in detail. The Evolution theory and all its variants has been revised, redacted, discarded, resurrected a thousand times over the course of 150 years...that is science...it looks at all angles people bring their own researches and everybody contributes from all over the world. The court does not have such time to look at intelligent design.

The irreducible organ was discarded just by bringing one example and the sample used was recently discovered, was opportunity given to search for other evidences in favour of intelligent design that can counter that. Was evidence given to show that that particular simple needle and gear mechanism was the one that evolve into the one cited by the creationism expert.

The fish with the flat head that was shown as evidence or evolution into higher forms, such fishes still exists today in abundance, could that not have been the way God wanted them to be? They only brought fossil of a life form which was claimed to evolve into whatever, but there are other kinds of fishes that still has such features and still very much around.

The cell is still the basic unit of life and it is still irreducible to any inanimate thing.
