Commuter told to go 'f*** yourself' on Tube interviews abuser an hour later Why you should never swear at strangers on the train... By Ruth Doherty, Feb 20, 2015 Britain Subway StrikeASSOCIATED PRESS A HR executive travelling to work on the Tube was told to go f*** himself by a fellow passenger - who he later interviewed for a job. Matt Buckland was the victim of the angry rant as he took the Tube in the morning rush hour. He was barged out of the way and verbally abused as the man rushed to get off the train at Monument station. According to the Metro, Matt said: "I explained I was getting off too but he pushed past and then looked back and suggested I might like to go f*** myself." The later that day the same man turned up for an interview with Matt. And he took to Twitter to relay the incident. He wrote: "Karma - the guy who pushed past me on the tube and then suggested I go F myself just arrived for his interview...with me..." The man did not immediately recognise Matt but came to realise his mistake, which Mr Buckland had a good sense of humour about. Speaking to the Mirror, he said: "I hinted at it and eventually he realised. "Laughed it off and carried on. The Tube makes everyone cranky ."Matt said the man did not get the job, but not because of the incident, just because he was not right for it. Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, he said: "It would be easy to hold something like this over someone in an interview, but for me interviews aren't about that. "When you interview you are looking for a read of skills but also to know if that person is a real human being, it's about that connection. "By the end of the interview we laughed it off and were both happy." And, if you're looking for a job, Matt's still looking for an applicant - just don't swear at him on the way to the interview. |

Fired for a tweet - before starting the job Pizzeria owner not amused By Emma Woollacott, Feb 10, 2015 The tweets from Cella and Robert Waple@Cellla_ / @Robertwaple / Twitter It takes some doing to get fired from your new job before you've even started. But one Twitter user going by the name of Cella has managed it. She'd bagged a job at local pizzeria Jet's Pizza in Texas, and was due to start last week - but wasn't pleased. "Ew I start this f*** a** job tomorrrow," she tweeted, with no fewer than seven thumbs-down emojis. Her friends sympathised - but one person didn't. "And... no you don't start that FA job today! I just fired you! Good luck with your no money, no job life!" replied prospective boss Robert Waple. It seems that one of the pizzeria's other employees, who knew Cella, had screen-grabbed the tweet and showed it to the boss. "I got fired over Twitter," tweeted Cella - with three laughing emojis. "Working register (the till), taking phone orders, making subs/salads. Eating free pizza. How hard would that have been?" Mr Waple later commented. "I would've just called her and fired her, but I wasn't at work and didn't have her number... probably one of the dumbest things to say about a job you haven't started yet." The exchange has now gone viral on social media, and has even hit the news in places as far-flung as Norway and the Bahamas. Some Twitter users criticise Mr Waple for his harshness; others mock Cella for her stupidity. But Cella is by no means the first person to lose a job because of ill-advised posts on social media. Five years ago, Essex teenager Kimberley Swann managed it almost as quickly as Cella. "first day at work. omg!! So dull!!" she posted on her first day at Ivell Marketing & Logistics - after having added some of her co-workers as Facebook friends. Her boss said it was "unfortunate that we didn't come up to Miss Swann's expectations", and fired her immediately. And just a couple of weeks ago, survival expert Ray Mears also managed to get himself fired from a job before even starting. He'd accepted a gig speaking at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show later this month. However, in January, the BBC aired an episode of Room 101 featuring Mears - and in which he described his utter loathing of caravans. "There was no way we can now have him come along to speak at our event, commented one of the organisers. "He shouldn't have taken the job if he has fundamental issues with caravans." |

TOKYO is the world's safest city when it comes to digital security, health, infrastructure and personal safety, according to a new report. The Japanese capital was named the world's safest city for 2015, despite being home to the world's largest urban population with 38 million residents and suffering regular earthquakes. Asian cities Singapore and Osaka followed, as Swedish capital Stockholm was named the fourth safest city in the world and Amsterdam took fifth place. The Economist's Safe Cities Index 2015 analysed safety in 50 cities, assessing each on digital security, health security, infrastructure safety and personal safety before giving a score out of 100. London only managed to make 18th place on the list and was beaten by San Francisco, Melbourne and Barcelona. Indonesian capital Jakarta was placed bottom in the rankings, which is home to 10 million people. Its number of doctors per 1,000 people contributed to its place on the list, while it was not the worst performer it came to violent crime. Other cities in the bottom half of the Index are Sao Paulo (40), Moscow (43), Delhi (42) and Johannesburg (47). Wealth doesn't always guarantee safety either as Abu Dhabi (25) was the only Middle Eastern city to make into the top half. Top 20 safest cities 1. Tokyo 2. Singapore 3. Osaka 4. Stockholm 5. Amsterdam 6. Sydney 7. Zurich 8. Toronto 9. Melbourne 10. New York 11. Hong Kong 12. San Francisco 13. Taipei 14. Montreal 15. Barcelona 16. Chicago 17. Los Angeles 18. London 19. Washington DC 20.
