Please refer to the below for evidence (that self-flagellation is prohibited by Shia Muslim leaders) and also explanation into the practice:

‘Tatbeer’ is not azadari (Ashura) but wasting it, says Ayatullah Khamenei
By: Sheikh M Khurasani

TEHRAN, Iran: Supreme leader of Iran Ayatullah Ali Al-Khamenei has said Tatbeer, or Qama-zeni (making a cut on head to gush out blood to signify grief on the martyrdom of Hazret Imam Hosein, peace be on him) is not permissible.

Speaking to a gathering of religious scholars, speakers of Hoseini pulpit and people of the holy city of Qom, the Ayatullah said: “iin mokhalefat ba azadari neest, mokhalefat ba zaya kerdan azadari ast…” [This opposition is not of azadari but of wasting azadari (Hoseini mourning)].

LagosShia: Sister "uplawal",

you asked yesterday a question about commemorating the event of Karbala on the 10th of the holy month of Muharram also known as the day of ashura and its rituals (beating oneself, crying and cutting oneself).

first you need to know that crying should be a natural reaction to something sad you sense.i personally on several occassions have being moved to tears.it doesnt necessarily have to be on ashura.sometimes when a reciter of the Holy Quran has a nice voice and you ponder upon the meanings, you are moved to tears.also when commemorating the matrydom of Imam Hussain on ashura if the reciter has a good voice and uses good expressions to convey the suffereings and pain of Imam Hussain and the Ahlul-Bayt in Karbala, you as a person with humane feelings will be moved to tears.even if it were not Imam Hussain,if anyone human undergo what the Imam suffered you will feel great sorrow.how much more when the person that went that suffering and sacrifice was your Imam and the Imam of humanity and the grandson of the greatest of mankind, the Prophet Muhammad ?

as for hitting the chest, that is a symbolic act that has a meaning relevant to what happened at Karbala.its has to do more with a symbolic kind of rememberance like the way some people do a "V-sign" on some occassions.

cutting oneself is a philosophical issue.even among the shia, not everyone cuts himself and cause blood to flow.those who do it say that no matter how much one tries to feel sorry for Imam Hussain, nothing is too much.therefore the cutting of oneself is meant to symbolize a willing soul ready to sacrifice and die for the Imam in loyalty and love to him and the Prophet Muhammad and the Ahlul-Bayt.they say that because of those who betrayed Imam Hussain and the Imam was killed in an abandoned and very sorrowful way along with his family members and even his 6 months old baby, they want to shed blood for the Imam and die at his service to please Allah.if the Imam was willing not to compromise for the sake of Islam and was so loyal to Allah,we also should emulate that spirit.

some of our scholars do support this view.others do not.those who do not support this view hold that it is haram to inflict oneself or harm oneself.they say that Imam Hussain was beheaded and his blood was shed by the ungodly,so why should we do to ourselves what the evil people did to our Imam?if we want to show love to our Imam,we can do that by remembering him and attending lectures on the commemoration of the day and carrying out symbolic acts like beating our chests (lightly) to bring back the memory of Karbala.we can remember the Imams symbolically and spiritually and islamically without hurting ourselves.an alternative like the saudi shias in the eastern parts of saudi arabia do,they donate their blood (for transfusion) to hospitals.those healthy individuals can donate their blood to help people survive and keep them alive like the way the Imam sacrificed his blood so that Islam will remain alive and healthy just the way it was revealed to his grandfather the Prophet Muhammad (sa).those against blood-letting also think the image of shias cutting themselves gives a bad impression in the minds of non-believers.those who cut themselves think they are not indebted to anyone to prove their enlightenment or sense of civilization when their acts is purely an act of devotion and sacrifice.

As you can see, this act is solely a matter of intentions.therefore a shia is free to show his love the way he feels best in accordance with the fatwas of his Marji (scholar of highest authority in shia islam that issue fatwas, the likes of ayatollah Khomeini and ayatollah Sistani).

Based on intention,no one would dictate to you how to express your intentions or not to.on this note, the issue does not act a divisive issue because we all think that everyone mourning for Imam Hussain is doing his best to remember the Imam and bring back the lessons of Karbala to life in our modern times.

Personally I have never inflicted wounds upon myself.i do beat my chest and I cry to an unimaginable extent when the Sheikh or Sayyid narrates Imam Hussain’s sufferings in Karbala and that of his family members and loyal friends including his six months old baby.as I am typing this,I am only managing to control myself from shedding tears.there is a saying that “Karbala is a wound that never heals in the heart of the believer”.i really feel sad and spiritually overcome when I hear anything about Imam Hussain.if you truly attend the commemoration on the 10th of Muharram which is just a few weeks away, you will understand what I am saying.you should first try and study the event itself and the sacrifice each member that was matyred in Karbala did and refrained from doing for the sake of Islam and the Imam.the event is the epitome of islamic sacrifice and the love for Allah.

As I was saying,I believe in sincerity.i believe if I can be moved to shed tears,I should also be moved to an unconscious state where I can cut myself.but consciously I don’t think it is reasonable for me to inflict wounds on my body.ofcourse I have to mourn Imam Hussain, that is a sunnah of the Prophet.but I can do that in more than one way to express my grief, sadness and love for the Imam.i don’t think it should be done cold-bloodedly.i am not saying those who cut themselves are acting or are being hypocritical.may Allah reward them for their good intentions and Allah will surely reward me for mine too.all of us have the same goal but using different methods.at the end we are all one and we do love Imam Hussain above ourselves.may my soul and the souls of my parents be sacrificed for the sake of Imam Hussain.

grin just avoid answering the simple question was Zaynab lying when she said kufee shias murdered Husayn r.a u invented a leeway to escape? Oh dear you really deserve pity! Kufee shias are solely responsible for the death of Husayn r.a, you can either refer to the thread posted earlier or keep deceiving yourself on that very matter!

Definately Zaynab was speaking the truth when she said Kufee shias murdered that much I know there I said what you tried so hard in dribbling your way from. Personally this thread is a waste of my time where crocodile tears and pretense are elevated to the height of religious piety! My own patience is wearing thin!
Did I try to vindicate the Kuffans? No! Don't we Shia Muslims curse them? Yes we do.

Now you are trying to play with the word "shia".if being "shia" (partisans/followers/loyalists) is what the Kuffan hypocrites displayed then certainly we Shia Muslims today are not what the so called "kufi shia" of yours were.while I do not belie what Sayyida Zainab (as) said,I insist that the hypocrites of Kufa were not acting on their own.they were taken orders from above alongside Yazeed's army, governor and commanders in Kufa.their change of loyalty in betraying Imam Hussein (as) doesn't at all qualify them to be called "shia" of Imam Ali (as) or Imam Hussein (as) that we Shia Muslims are proud to be.in fact they were not Muslims.whether you call them "shia","shayateen","buddhists","sunni","animists",join me let us condemn them and also condemn whose plan/order they were executing in killing Imam Hussein (as),his household and true and loyal Shia who stood by him.we as Shia today do not look to the hypocrites of Kufa who betrayed the religion of Islam for inspiration.we Shia Muslims of today look up to the loyal and truthful Shia who stood defending Imam Hussein (as) to their last drop of blood.why don't you mention their names instead of spreading propaganda for sectarian hatred to deceive the unsuspecting.my disagreement with you is not whether Kufans (the hypocrites among them) were evil or not.I'm not defending the hypocrites at all.but you're here defending Yazeed.I'm telling you the kufans were behaving by the political command from Yazeed and his governor in Kufa.I can point a number of Kufans who were true companions of Imam Hussein (as) and didn't betray him, because they were the true Shia and defenders of Islam against Yazeed and his associates and supporters.I'm proud of those kufan Shia who stood by Imam Hussein (as) because I learn from their sacrifice and devotion and piety what being Shia and Muslim is all about.you're trying to exonerate Yazeed and his governor in Kufa and the army he sent under which influence of power and intimidationthe kufans were suppressed and they turned/changed their support.my contention is not on the role the hypocrites of kufa (may Allah curse them) played.my contention with you is on whose behalf were they acting.the sermon of Sayyida Zainab (as) and her pointing finger at kufans is 100% true;but that in no way exonerate Yazeed.

Hani Ibn Urwa (ra) was a true Kufan Shia and he stood by Muslim Ibn Aqeel (as),and Hani (ra) is considered among the martyrs of Karbala.on what grounds can a true Shia like Hani (ra) be called "shia",and the hypocrite Kufans that betrayed Imam Hussein (as) also be referred to (by you) as "shia" without distinction? Is this a just labeling? If those Kufan hypocrites you call "shia" were "shia" to you then they were muslims.would you accept if a non-muslim accuse muslims of killing Imam Hussein (as)? I wouldn't because I don't believe anyone who raises a finger against the Household of Prophet Muhammad (saw) is a muslim of any sort.

We go back to my questions which you don't want to answer.but you must answer for you to know the truth that the kufan hypocrites were "shia of yazeed" and not "shia of Hussein" that I am proud to be and every Shia Muslim is proud to be.you call yourself "Sunni" but you defend Yazeed (la).its weird! and I'm asking you to join me to be a follower of Imam Hussein (as),master of youth of paradise, and stop your wahhabi propaganda against the Shia aimed at defending the tyrant,Yazeed (la).

Answer me my friend:

Who killed Muslim Ibn Aqeel (as)?

Where (in kufa) was he killed?

How was he killed?

If you answer these 3 questions in a simple and direct manner, believe me I'm done with you.you can be ranting all you want about shia this or that;and Imam Hussein (as) will always be my master and grandson of my master (saw),and we will always remember him well, and Yazeed (la) will always be remembered for tyranny and oppression which Imam Hussein (as) stood against and refused to compromise on.answer my questions!

vedaxcool: The one in bondage here, are those who fail to acknowledge the very fact that Zaynab speaks the truth that Kufee shais are killed Husayn r.a!
Where did She say it was Kufans who killed the Imam (as).show me!

Now you clearly stated that who Muslim, which offcourse is not the bone of contention and which if you read the thread I posted , clearly states how it happened, that is 18 men entered Kufa and the Kufee shias even after pledging their allegiance and were the cause of their muslim being still refused to provide protection from the 18 men, in Kufa alone 18000 men had pledge their allegiance (there were more than that amount of men in the whole of Kufa) and this men stood and did nothing ro save Muslim even when Muslim tried to hide an woman exposed his hiding place! But the real issue remains Kufee shias killed Husayn r.a and they were not even part of Yazeed army rather they killed Husayn r.a to cover their tracks, no amount of accrobatics would change this fact, Husayn only reason for being in Kufa was because Kufee shias invited him there and the same shias will not only fail to up hold their words but will also deliberately kill him to save their necks! And the very man who killed him, Shimr would be the same man who fought on the side of Ali r.a against Muawiyah! Clearly the shias have all evidence pointing at them, go have fear of Allah if you are really interested in holding Islam!
You're ranting to confuse yourself.I simply asked who,how and where Muslim Ibn Aqeel (as) was killed.I need simple and straight answers.your fantasies for sectarian propaganda,I'm not interested in.save that for wahhabis and those it pleases to deceive themselves.

Let me know:

Who killed Muslim Ibn Aqeel (as)?

Where (in Kufa) he was killed?

How he was killed?

When you answer these questions,we will know the following:

1.Who killed Imam Hussain (as) and is directly and chiefly responsible for the Tragedy of Karbala.

2. Why the Kufans pledged support and all of a sudden changed their mind.

3. And who was in charge of Kufa.

So please who, where (in kufa) and how was Muslim Ibn Aqeel (as) killed.I'm not interested in your stories.just answer those questions because I'm exercising full patience and humility with you.this is a discussion I shouldn't even hold because someone making your claims (making a cocktail of unfounded imaginations) is not worth talking to.but in order not to call you names or offend you,I'm assuming you're simply an honest person who has been misled.so before I make my conclusions and answer my questions with facts and references, please assist me and assist yourself to answer these questions.they are meant for you to answer because you need to open your eyes.

I need to know (for the third time):

Who,where (in Kufa) and how was Muslim Ibn Aqeel (as) killed.then we can progress to who really or what the kufans were including the accursed Shimr you're using for Ummayyad/Wahhabi propaganda.if you're honest to yourself,it won't take you a week before you cry profusely for deceiving yourself, and you will become a Shia Muslim.just give me the plain and honest answers;please if you're not wasting our time.

vedaxcool: Now do you why this is becoming a case of shia double speak? The very fact that rather than acknowledge what Zaynab said to be true you are simply dribbling your own self left and right! Zaynab said clearly the Kufee shias killed Husayn r.a what is there to argue? You still refuse to acknowledge they killed him! Husayn himself again said the Kufee shias were responsible for his death! So what are you really arguing for? The link I placed clearly chronicled the event from start to finish! Now you can either read the link or continue going in circles, something I am not interested in doing, everything I wrote in my previous response were in direct response to your question! My has been left unanswered which simply is was Zaynab lying whens she said Kufee shias where the ones who kill Husayn, now a simple Yes or No would suffice! Trying to play semantics won't just work here! And I do not represent Yazeed only the truth, which Zaynab spoke of and of which you want to dispute, I did not post the text Zhul Fiqah did. Since no shia here can answer the simple question on whether Zaynab was speaking truthfully or falsely when she said Kufee Shias murdered Husayn r.a remains a huge indictment on the very dishonest myth you guys perpetuate to deceive novices on who is responsible for Husayn death! I remeber lagosshia even denied that fact! I only posted to show him his inability to remember his lies and his shia trait of posting whatever suit his case!
The text you presented from Tarikh al-khulafa,quote Imam Hussein (as) as blaming the kufans for treachery.Sayyida Zainab (as) likewise blamed them for treachery.they would pledge allegiance and support, and then break their vows.the true Shia among the Kufans were a minority like Hani Ibn Urwa (ra) who was arrested by Yazeed's governor,Ubaydullah Ibn Ziyad, because Hani (ra) sheltered Muslim Ibn Aqeel (as),Imam Hussain's (as) emissary to Kufa.Yazeed ordered in a letter to Ibn Ziyad to imprison or kill Muslim Ibn Aqeel (as),as Ibn Ziyad deem fit.

To cut things short, you are running away from facing the facts.the names of these historical personalities alone would reveal what happened and who did what.the Kufans betrayed Imam Hussein (as).they betrayed, abandoned, and joined Yazeed's army in the person of Ibn Ziyad.

I asked you earlier on whose order were the Kufans acting, you gave me a long story and off issues.earlier,I asked some questions which you refused to answer.

The Kufans after pledging allegiance to and asked Imam Hussein (as) to come, changed their position.tell us why? What was the conflict between the Kufans and Imam Hussein (as)? You said the Kufans wanted to cover their tracks.now I'm asking "cover their tracks" from who?

Finally who killed Muslim Ibn Aqeel (as),where and how? I'm sure you could find no lie to attribute the killing of Muslim Ibn Aqeel (as) and Hani Ibn Urwa (ra) to the kuffans.how can kuffans even be acting and killing directly as you're lying when there was a governor of Yazeed in kufa?

Please,I'm not here fighting with you.I'm here to help you.if you see the truth and can change your views from the bondage you've put yourself because you're prejudiced against the Shia,I'd be happy for you.you just go out there looking for anything just to reply.I want us to think together.

You can forget in fact all I have said.just tell me who killed Muslim Ibn Aqeel (as).
IslamRe: Ashura:Commemorating The Martyrdom Of Imam Hussain (as) in the Month of Muharram by Rafidi: 8:15pm On Nov 24, 2012
vedaxcool: You are joking right? Kufan's are shia because even Husayn r.a referred to them as such, so any grouse you have with that should be directed at Husayn r.a and shia scholars who termed them such!

Now if you read my post you would clearly Husayn r.a. See that Husayn r.a puts the blame squarely on his shia not Yazid, why, let me restate

The shee’ah who invited Hussain (radi-Allaahu ‘anhu) to Koofah were also the ones who in fact killed him. When Hussain (radi-Allaahu ‘anhu) saw their treachery he said,
I did not come to Koofah without being asked to come. I received numerous letters from you stating you had no Imaam and you asked me to come. So it was obligatory upon you to stick to your promise and to obey me, but you broke your promise and your pledge of allegiance to me. This is not something strange or new to us as you people proved disloyal and treacherous to my father (‘Alee (radi-Allaahu ‘anhu) and my brother (Hasan (radi-Allaahu ‘anhu) and my first cousin Muslim bin A’qeel. If you did not wish for me to come then I will return back to where I came from. Taareekh al-Umam Wal-Malook (2/228-229).

The two bolded point shows something:

1. That Husayn r.a only set out for Kufa because he was invited not because for any other reason!

2. That the Kufee shias had a knack for traitorship and betrayal which spans more than 4 family members!

So was Husayn r.a against Yazid, yes he disagreed with ruling, did it lead to military conflict no, it was Kufee shias that created the clash between Yazid and Husayn r.a.

Now why did they kill Husayn r.a, they did this to cover their tracks and that is why both Zaynab and Husayn r.a blamed the Shias for killing him, it was said the leaders of Kufee feared Yazid so much that they deliberately killed Husayn r.a in order to retrieve the letters that would implicate them. In any case the words of both Husayn and Zaynab puts the death of Husayn squarely on the kufee shias. Even shia scholars did the same thing, and all this can be found in the link I placed!

Why don't I commemorate the death of Husayn r.a?

I did a thread on the reason we don't do so and it is simply that the Prophet pbuh did not practice such. He neither commemorated the death of his wife, his children, Hamza, and numerous muslims who died in the path of Allah! Moreso why don't you commemorate the death of Ali r.a Hamza, Zayd (great grand son of the prophet) etc. That reason that has stopped you from commemorting their death can easily make your commemoration of the death of Husayn r.a look like crocodile tears. I remember clearly that Umar r.a was martyr on the 4th of Muharram did anybody commemorate his death? no! Uthman r.a was matyr did anybody commemorate his death? No! even the very first woman who died for Islam is not being commemorated, why simply because the Prophet pbuh did not command such! It is that simple!
You're seriously confusing yourself.you've pulled too many false notions and wrong accusations.but those are not discussion for this thread.I want to reach the conclusion with you that Yazeed killed Imam Hussein (as) and is chiefly responsible for the Tragedy of Karbala.now this is common knowledge.but you're obviously trying to make your own history up to convince yourself in funny ways why you shouldn't be a Shia.I'm not going to explain what being a Shia means or how a Shia should behave in his responsibilities to Imam Hussein (as) and the Ahlul-Bayt (as).I never denied that the hypocrites of Kufa are partly to blame and I'm not either going to prove what beliefs Kufans held at that time and why they are hypocrites.I'm only concern in proving to you and making you to accept willingly that Yazeed is chiefly responsible for the tragedy of Karbala, even though wahhabis try to shift blame from him while the crimes of Yazeed from Karbala to Medina (battle of al-harrah) and to Mecca, speak for themselves.

You mentioned Muslim Ibn Aqeel.he was Imam Hussein's (as) cousin and ambassador to garner support from the Kufans.

Can you give us insight into who killed him, where and how? From here we should make progress.you're representing Yazeed (defendant).

vedaxcool: You haven't answer the question, the kufee shias (the same people were partisans of Ali r.a) were solely responsible for the death of Husayn r.a. And that is what Zaynab said, they killed Husayn not just betrayal but deliberately in covering their tracks, all the long semantics did not even acknowledge the words of Zaynab r.a I did a thread which answered all your questions, www.nairaland.com/826513/o-allah-judge-between-us let me give you a quote from it

The shee’ah who invited Hussain (radi-Allaahu ‘anhu) to Koofah were also the ones who in fact killed him. When Hussain (radi-Allaahu ‘anhu) saw their treachery he said,
“I did not come to Koofah without being asked to come. I received numerous letters from you stating you had no Imaam and you asked me to come. So you see if you review the thread dispassionately u would have reason to remove the scale from your eyes
May Allah's curse and wrath be upon the Kufan hypocrites who betrayed, abandoned and fought Imam Hussein (as).may Allah curse Yazeed and punish him severely.

I hope you're satisfied?

Now the problem with you is deep down inside you,you do know being a Muslim and follower of Muhammad (saw) cannot escape you standing against his grandson.you also don't want to acknowledge the Shia are right.so you easily fall for Wahhabi propaganda and shift the blame on the Kufan hypocrites, and brand them "shia".not forgeting that the Wahhabi are the only people claiming to be muslims who defend Yazeed, even though the Wahhabis themselves acknowledge the conflict was between Yazeed and Imam Hussein (as).all the drama about Kufans is just to shift blame from Yazeed.that's not even a significant argument in my view.the Shia honor Imam Hussein (as) annually and revive his memory as part of the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (saw).now regardless of who you or I believe is "solely" or partly responsible for the tragedy of Karbala, the question is why don't you commemorate Imam Hussein's (as) martyrdom as a sad event in Islam and in a bid to revive a prophetic sunnah? Why are wahhabis seriously opposed to reviving this sunnah? Isn't it obvious because they follow the legacy of Banu Ummayyah,Yazeed's dynasty?

Now back to your explanation.you claim the kufans are "solely" responsible for the tragedy of Imam Hussein (as).if so,what was the conflict between Imam Hussein (as) and the kufans? What was their motive? Please explain the reason they "killed" him.
IslamRe: Ashura:Commemorating The Martyrdom Of Imam Hussain (as) in the Month of Muharram by Rafidi: 4:56pm On Nov 24, 2012
vedaxcool: Lol! grin grin grin so you play dodge ball? The only question you have tried hard to evade is simple:

Was Zaynab lying when she said Shias (kufees) killed Husayn r.a ? It is that simple, no need to ask question that has no bearing on what I am inquiring about! Zaynab is supposedly a witness in all that transpired and she holds the Kufee responsible for the murder of Husayn r.a. If you in tight box just tag out rather than engage in senseless semantics! So the fact remains that Yazid r.a did not kill Husayn r.a rather it was the shias of Kufee who murdered and that is what Zaynab, Yazid might have been out to fight Husayn r.a or even suppressed the rebellion that the Kufee shias instigated but it was the same Kufee shias who created all the lies that would eventually kill Husayn just to cover their tracks!
The hypocrite kufans are partly responsible for what happened,no doubt about that.we Shia do not forget to send their share of curses when we curse Yazeed.you want to simply make it look Yazeed had no hand in what happened and the kufans were acting independently on their own.it wasn't like that.the kuffans were themselves sick of ummayyad rule.that is why they invited Imam Hussein (as) to come to Kufa, after Imam Hussein (as) refused to pay allegiance to Yazeed, and Yazeed gave order to kill Imam Hussein (as),right when he was still in Mecca.when Imam Hussein (as) finally got to Iraq, the thousands who invited the Imam in Kufa who should rally behind Imam Hussein (as),were no where to be found.Imam Hussein (as) from the thousands in Kufa only ended up with 72 supporters!!!

In the meantime,Yazeed already heard of the turbulence in Kufa before Imam Hussein (as) had arrived.fearing a revolt to his rule,he replaced the lenient governor of Kufa, and made Ubaydullah Ibn Ziyad (who was harsher),the governor and he sent an army from Syria as reinforcement.Ibn Ziyad succeeded in bribing those of the Kufans who wanted material reward, while he threatened or killed others.that is how support for the Imam (as) slowly disappeared by the time Imam Hussein (as) had arrived.the Kufans are guilty of betraying the Imam, abandoning him and also joining his enemy.

Before Imam Hussein (as) reached Kufa,he was besieged in Karbala.Imam Hussein (as) was not even allowed to reach Kufa.Umar Ibn Saad (la) and al-Hur (ra) laid siege to Imam Hussein (as).in the last minute al-Hur (ra) switched side after listening to the Imam (as).al-Hur (ra) became the first to be martyred fighting to Imam Hussein (as) against the army of Yazeed, which he was part of.the army of Yazeed insisted that Imam Hussein (as) must pay allegiance to and recognize the immoral and tyrannical unbeliever (Yazeed) as caliph or else be killed.Imam Hussein (as) refused because Yazeed posed a threat to the very foundation of Islam.even the 6 month old son of Imam Hussein (as) was killed in Karbala.it wasn't a case of "murder".it was a tragedy and a very sad event of massacre.

Please stop calling the hypocrites of Kufa "shia".you cannot consider a people of break their vows to a cause/person,believers/followers of that cause/person.the Shia were the loyal 72 companions of Imam Hussein (as),not hypocrites who betrayed him.I am a Shia and I hate both the hypocrites of kufa and Yazeed,on whose order they acted.a Shia (partisan) of Imam Hussein (as) cannot betray Imam Hussein (as) and still be considered a "shia".its contradictory and makes no sense! Sometimes I wonder how you have the conscience and claiming to be muslim,to play with these issues.

Please its now your turn to answer my questions.

It seems referring to the hypocrites of Kufa as "shia" allow you to sleep at night grin

Anyways,I pray you stop this nonsense and face reality and facts.

Please answer the following:

1. Why did the Kufans "murder" Imam Hussein (as)?

2. Who was the governor of Kufa and who made him governor?

3. Who led the army that besieged Imam Hussein (as) ?

4. Who later killed that commander who laid siege on Imam Hussein (as) and his companions?

5. Why were the surviving family members of Imam Hussein (as),alongside the severed heads of Imam Hussein (as) and his companions, taken to Damascus for Yazeed?

Please answer,or mind your business and stop trolling.

Yazeed's Attack on Mecca and Medina After Killing the Prophet's (saw) Family Members in Karbala (Iraq)

Let me also add that in addition to the Tragedy of Karbala,Yazeed crimes and attrocities extend.he still showed no remorse when it come to killing and plundering.in the Battle of al-Harrah,Yazeed sent his army from Syria (the Umayyads made Damascus their capital) into Medina.the holy city of Medina was ransacked, its people killed and their wealth plundered.the Syrian army of Yazeed went on looting spree.thousands of the inhabitants of Medina were killed.you can further read about the. Battle of al-Harrah. what even make the crimes of Yazeed worse is the fact that it is forbidden for anyone to fight or shed blood in the holy cities of Medina and Mecca or to kill their inhabitants.in a hadith, the Prophet (saw) cursed anyone who oppress the inhabitants of Medina.

After the Battle of al-Harrah and Yazeed's army capturing Medina, his army then headed south to the holy city of Mecca.they laid siege to the holiest city in Islam, and in the process the holy Ka'ba was damaged.it siege only ended when Yazeed all of a sudden died.

And this is the same Yazeed that some people (as you can see in the below video) defend when the Shia Muslims send la'nat on him and consider him a kaffir,an immoral person and an illegitimate ruler:

maclatunji: Actually, LagosShia's many posts don't show anything more than the fact that Aisha (RA) was a normal wife who had disagreements with her husband. Ultimately, the husband was happy enough to keep her as his wife until his death. No need to write long epistles on her status in Islam. It is obvious to anyone with a clear mind.

Keep deluding yourself- none of your Ayatollah's has more judicial power than the one ready to pass a "death sentence" on LagosShia for his actions on this thread. It is a good thing to curb him if not for any other reason for his own safety since he doesn't even understand the creed he claims to defend.

I'm sure my brother LagosShia is very proud to read your post.he has succeed to make you see that aisha was just another "normal wife".she wasn't what sunnis say about her and definitely not "favorite wife" of the Prophet (sawaws).and was the Prophet a "normal" husband that aisha can disgree with, raise her voice at,deny his truthfulness and disobey? LagosShia in fact raised very valid points to answer your question why our Prophet (sawaws) didn't divorce her.

I think your acceptance she was a normal wife (and not the invincible wife Sunnis express) should serve LagosShia as consolation for his ban.

We Cry for Hussain...So Did the Prophet

Written by Yasser Madani

Every year, Muslims around the world commemorate the tragedy of Karbala. They attend mourning meetings and processions in which the story of Karbala is retold, lamentations are held and special poetic readers using dramatic techniques and symbolism recite eulogies to mark the events of the day of Ashura. All these commemorative meetings not only serve to convey the events and message of Karbala but also provide opportunities for us to learn about Islam in general.

We commemorate Ashura to symbolise and express our grief and emotions towards the martyrdom of Imam al-Hussain (AS), to keep Imam al-Hussain’s (AS) cause alive in our hearts and to be committed to his cause. Also, we want to extract lessons from the tragedy of Karbala and apply them to our daily lives. We want to pay our condolences to the Holy Prophet (SAW) and the Ahlul Bayt. You might then ask why we don’t commemorate the death of the Holy Prophet (SAW) who has a much higher rank than Imam al-Hussain (AS). The answer to this is that although we do commemorate and mourn the death of the Holy Prophet (SAW), it is the way and circumstance in which Imam al-Hussain (AS) was martyred which makes all the difference, the fact that he was martyred for refusing a government headed by the wretched Yazid, who drank, gambled and indulged in many corrupt practices, the fact that those who savagely slaughtered Imam al-Hussain (AS) called themselves Muslims is what makes us mourn and lament his martyrdom the way we do.

Imagine this, it is afternoon on the day of Ashura. Imam al-Hussain (AS) is standing on the blood-drenched soil of Karbala in the heat of the scorching sun waiting to meet his beloved. His head is wounded and blood is streaming slowly down his holy face soaking his blessed beard. He looks around, searching for members of his family and his companions, only to find them brutally slaughtered and slain like sacrificial lambs, lying there on the ground soaked in blood. He hears the innocent crying and wailing of the children and the women. Tears flow down his holy face. He takes a piece of cloth to wipe the blood from his face, whereupon an archer from the army of Yazid (may Allah’s curse be upon him) shoots a triple-headed arrow, which lodges into Imam al-Hussain’s (AS) heart. He pulls out the arrow causing blood to gush out. The Holy Imam is thirsty, he cries: “O God, I am thirsty”, in the meantime another man approaches and shoots an arrow which thrusts into Imam al-Hussain’s (AS) throat quenching his thirst. Hilal bin Nafi’ was reported as saying: “By God I never saw a person getting killed with his own blood all over his body in a better state than al-Hussain. I was so overwhelmed by the radiance of his face that I refrained from contemplating killing him”. Even when the accursed Shimr approached Imam al-Hussain (AS) to severe his blessed head, he said: “When I approached Hussain ibn Ali and my eyes fell on him, the light of his face so gripped me that I forgot my intention to kill him”. It is reported that when Imam al-Hussain was killed, the sky rained down blood.[1] It has been recorded that Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (AS) has said:

“…For no one the heavens wept for forty days save Yahya and Hussain…” [2]

Show me such a spectacle of human greatness in an event other than Karbala and I will commemorate its memory instead of Karbala! How can someone hear all this and not cry and mourn, even those who are not Muslims shed tears when they hear this tragedy. Even the heavens wept for Imam al-Hussain (AS).[3] Let me ask you a question, if a Muslim cries over the passing away of their own relatives, then how can they not cry over the grandson of the Messenger of Allah (SAW)?

Furthermore, crying for Imam al-Hussain (AS) is considered seeking nearness to Allah (SWT) for the tragedy of Karbala is bound to the great sacrifice which Imam al-Hussain (AS) endured for the sake of Allah (SWT) and for Islam. It is only when your heart is soft and absorbable that you feel the sense of closeness to Allah (SWT). The Holy Qur’an praises crying and those who cry for a legitimate cause. The Holy Qur’an describes many of the Prophets and their followers when they cried, "When the verses of the Most Gracious were recited unto them, they fell down prostrating and weeping" [4]

Furthermore we cry over the martyrdom of Imam al-Hussain (AS) for the Holy Prophet (SAW) wept for Imam al-Hussain (AS) as recorded in many traditions (ahadith):

Ahmed and Ibn al-Dhahhak narrated from Ali (AS): “I entered on the prophet (SAW) and his eyes were flooded, I said: Oh! Prophet of Allah, anyone made you angry? Why are your eyes flooded? He said: Gabriel just left me telling me that al-Hussain will be killed by the river Euphrates. He (the Prophet) said: So he (Gabriel) said: Do you want me to let you smell his dirt (from his burial pot)? I said: Yes! He reached with his hand and grabbed and handful of dirt and gave it to me. So I could not help it and my eyes were flooded.” [5]

Ummul Fadhl the daughter of al-Harith said that she entered on the Messenger of Allah (SAW) and she said: “Oh! Messenger of Allah, I saw a strange dream last night. He said: And what is it? She said: It was difficult. He said: And what is it? She said: I saw, as if, a piece of your body was severed and was put in my lap! The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: You saw well - Fatima will give birth, God willing, a boy so he will be in your lap. Then Fatima gave birth to al-Hussain and he was in my lap - just as the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said. So I entered one day on the Messenger of Allah (SAW) and put him in his lap, but I noticed that the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (SAW) pouring tears! So I said: Oh! Prophet of Allah, my parents are your ransom, what is with you? He said: Gabriel (AS) came to me and informed me that my nation (ummah) will kill this son of mine.” [6]

Umm Salamah has said: "al-Hussain entered on the Prophet (SAW), while I was sitting at the door, so I saw in the hand of the Prophet (SAW) something he turned over while (Hussain) sleeping on his stomach. I said: Oh messenger of Allah, I looked and saw you turning something over in your hand when the kid was sleeping on your stomach and your tears were pouring? He said: Gabriel came to me with the sand upon which he (Hussain) will be killed. And he informed me that my nation (umma) will kill him." [7]

Ibn Saad, Ali bin Muhammad, Yahya bin Zakariya, a man heard it from 'Amir al-Sha'bi say: "When Ali (as) passed by Karbalaa in his march to Siffien and lined up with Nainawa - a village on the Euphrates - he stopped and called one of them men: Tell aba 'Abdullah (al-Hussain ) what this land is called? He said: Karbala. Then he cried until the earth was wet from his tears. He then said: I entered on the messenger of Allah (s) and he was crying. So I said: What makes you cry? He said: Gabriel was with me, just now, and informed me: that my son al-Hussain will be killed at the banks of Furat in a location called Karbala. Then Gabriel grabbed a handful of dirt and let me smell it. So I could not help it, my eyes overflowed." [8] From this tradition (hadith) we can see that Imam al-Ali (AS) also wept for Imam al-Hussain (AS). There are more traditions showing that the Holy Prophet (SAW) wept for Imam al-Hussain (AS). [9] Umm Salamah, the wife of the Holy Prophet (SAW) also wept for Imam al-Hussain (AS).[10] Even the Jinns mourned Imam al-Hussain (AS)'s death, it has been reported that after Imam al-Hussain (AS)'s martyrdom, Umm Salamah said: "I heard the Jinns mourning for al-Hussain.” [11]

Yet unfortunately there are some Muslims who have claimed that mourning and lamenting the death of Imam al-Hussain (AS) is impermissible and a wrong practice. Ask yourselves this question - if this is so, then why did the Holy Prophet (SAW) mourn the death of Imam al-Hussain (AS)? Some Muslims have even gone to the extent of criticizing the Muslims who commemorate Ashura [12] whilst others have even claimed that this practice is polytheism (shirk) and an innovation (bid'ah). Maybe there are some Muslims who hate to see the remembrance of the Ahlul Bayt.

IslamRe: 10th Day Of Muharram: The Reason Muslims Fast On This Day Makes Me Curious by Rafidi: 2:19pm On Nov 19, 2012
Fasting on Ashura
By MELJ

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) entered Medina in the first year of Hijra and noticed the Jews fasting. He asked one of his companions: “Why are the Jews fasting?”. His companion replied: “The Jews are remembering when Prophet Moses (pbuh) and the children of Israel were saved from the Pharaoh”. The prophet said: “I have a greater right on Moses than what they do. Therefore, my people will fast on Ashura in the same way they are fasting on Ashura”. One of the companions exclaimed: “O Messenger of Allah, but we are going to be copying the Jews” and the prophet then replied: “You are right, from now on we will fast on the 9th and 10th”.

The above narration and the fast of Ashura is one of the most controversial acts of worship in Islam. It is an act of worship that requires thorough dissection and analyses in order to examine it from a variety of angles.

When examining the hadith above; we must carefully consider the following:

When is the hadith mentioned and in which books is it narrated?

Who narrated the hadith and what is their personal history?

What is the meaning of the word ‘Ashura’ and does it possess more than one meaning?

According to the Jewish calendar, did the Jews fast on the day of savior of the children of Israel? Did this day correspond to the 10th of Muharram?

When did the Arabic calendar begin and how does this coincide with the above hadith?

Why would the prophet copy the practice of the Jews?

Are there other areas of the Sunnah which have been neglected?

The fast of Ashura upholds both historical and contemporary significance. In terms of its contemporary significance, people from all over the globe engage in a fast on the day of Ashura. According to some scholars, the fast of Ashura ‘Is one of the most beloved fasts to the holy prophet, after the fast of Ramadan’. Due to its contemporary significance, it is important to understand the basis of the fast on Ashura, where this particular act of worship originated from and whether this act is recognized by all schools of Islam.
Have you ever wondered why the fast of Ashura is the only Sunnah of the holy prophet Muhammad (pbuh) which is provided with such a vast propaganda?

As the 10th of Muharram approaches, all the Imams are preparing lectures that highlight the significance of the fast of Ashura. Millions of pamphlets, books, posters and many more media machinery operate to encourage the population to fast on Ashura. It seems that on the 10th of Muharram, the fast of Ashura is the only momentous incident in the history of Islam. Yet, the savior of Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) from the king Namrud and the fire, the savior of Prophet Noah (pbuh) and his people, the curing of Prophet Ayyub’s (pbuh) illness and the returning of Prophet Yaqub’s eyesight all occurred on Ashura. Yet, why are such significantly notable events NEGLECTED?  Why is everything devoted to the fast of Ashura?

Subsequently, the act of fasting on Ashura originated from the day of savior of Prophet Moses (pbuh) and the children of Israel. The comprehensive analysis of this act of worship requires delving into the worlds of history and ahadith as well as studying the Jewish and Islamic calendars.

The hadith relating to the fast of Ashura is narrated in Imam Bukhari’s Sahih; Imam Muslim’s Sahih and Imam Tarmizi’s Sahih. Thus, it is narrated in three of the six available Sahih’s. When we look at any narration which tells us about an act of worship such as fasting, we must analyze the chain of narrators in order to confirm its reliability. Ibn Abas, Abu Hurraira, Abu Musa al ashari and Muawiya are the narrators who claim that the prophet recommended the fast of Ashura.

The above hadith is meant to have been mentioned when the prophet arrived in Medina in the 1st year of Hijra. Hence, we will examine the activities of the narrators at that period of time:

Ibn Abas was four years old when the prophet arrived in Medina and the hadith was mentioned. Ibn Abas was born three years before Hijra. If we assume that he was with the prophet at Hijra and Ibn Abas heard every single bit of the narration, he would have been four years at that time. According to many scholars of hadith, a four year old child is not exactly the most reliable resource.

Abu Musa al Ashari came from the tribe of Ashar in Yemen. He converted to Islam before Hijra and since that day till Khabar, he was no where to be seen. This is because the prophet sent him back to Yemen to spread the religion of Islam and consequently he could not have been with the prophet in the 1st year of Hijra since he was in Yemen. The first glimpse anyone had of Abu Musa was after Khaibar.

Abu Hurraira converted to Islam in his early years and was only seen in Medina after Khaibar which occurred in the 7th year of Hijra. Now, if you weren’t even at the event, then how can you narrate what happened?

Muawiya converted to Islam in the 8th year of Hijra which is seven years after the mentioning of the hadith relating to the fast of Ashura. Thus, can you label Muawiya as being a reliable source?

Further examination of the narrators broadens our understanding of the validity of the above hadith:
Abu Hurraira was made the governor of Bahrian by Omar al khatab in the 21st year of Hijra. In the 23rd year of Hijra, Omar discovers that Abu Hurraira was gaining an income through the narration of ahadith. Omar said to him: “When I let you go to Bahrain, you didn’t even have shoes on your feet and now in Bahrian, you are buying horses for 1600 dinars each and I hear that you are narrating ahadith and making an income from it”.

This incident emphasizes that the narration of Ahadith became a profession after the death of the holy prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Can we possibly accept a narration from a person like Abu Hurraira? How can we accept the hadith as being valid if the narrators weren’t even present at the incidence?

Furthermore, it is important to consider the meaning of the word “Ashura” in order to analyze the hadith above from a different angle. Ibn Ather who was one of the greatest scholars of the Arabic language highlights that the word ‘Ashura’ possesses an old and a new meaning. Taking the old meaning into perspective, “Ashura” refers to the 10th of any month. Moreover, the new meaning of the word Ashura was established after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (pbuh) and it refers to the 10th of Muharram in particular as it was on this holy day that the prophet’s grandson was murdered in the land of Kerbala.

Upon Ibn Ather’s examination of the hadith relating to the fast of Ashura, he raises the question: “When was the hadith mentioned?”

The narrators of the hadith claim that the prophet mentioned the hadith in the 1st year of Hijra. Thus, the old usage of the word “Ashura” applies and when the hadith is put into context, the prophet’s statement “My people will fast on Ashura in the same way they are fasting on Ashura” means that the Muslims will fast on the 10th of the month in which the prophet was in, when he was at Medina. As a result we must be fasting on the 9th and 10th of the month in which the prophet met the Jews at Medina. Why are the Muslims fasting on 10th of Muharram?  Why is the propaganda always behind the 10th of Muharram? The prophet never mentioned Muharram!

The propaganda and media machinery indoctrinate the population by emphasizing that the prophet entered Medina in the month of Muharram and thus he met the Jews on the 10th of Muharram. Let’s assume that this is valid as we analyze the Jewish and Islamic calendar.

Hence, for an assumption: Ashura= 10th of Muharram in 1st year of Hijra.
The Hadith relating to the fast of Ashura claims that the Jews fast on the day of the savior of prophet Moses and the children of Israel on the 10th of Tishri (Jewish calendar) and this corresponds to the 10th of Muharram (Islamic calendar). The hadith also claims that when the prophet (pbuh) acknowledged that the Jews were fasting on Ashura, he commanded the Muslims to fast on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.  Consequently, the existence of Judaism today further assists the recovery of truth. Ask the Jews whether they fast on the day that prophet Moses (pbuh) and the children of Israel were saved by the Almighty Allah. Ask them whether the day in which they fast corresponds to the 10th of Muharram. The answer is simply NO. The Jews have no such fast and it NEVER corresponded to the 10th of Muharram in the first year of Hijra. The only time the 10th of Tishri corresponded to the 10th of Muharram was in the 29th year after Hijra. Yet, the hadith claims that the prophet met the Jews in the first year of Hijra!

Moreover, the 10th of Tishri is not related to the savior of Moses and the children of Israel but rather the 10th of Tishri is the day the children of Israel paid atonement for worshipping the calf when Prophet Moses and some companions went to Mount Sinai. As a result of this incident, the Jews fast on the 10t of Tishri. However, the hadith relating to the fast of Ashura claims that the Jews were fasting on the 10th of Tishri due to the savior of Moses and the children of Israel! Rather, the savior of the children of Israel occurred on the 15th of Nissan in the Jewish calendar and the 15th of Nissan in the 1st year of Hijra corresponded to the 23rd of Ramadan. Hence, if there should be a fast which is recommended then it should have nothing to do with the 10th of Muharram but rather the 23rd of Ramadan.

When narrating the hadith relating to the fast of Ashura, were did this massive mistakes come from?
The mistake was as a result of the naivety of the hadith writer. Since the Islamic calendar begins with Muharram, the hadith writer wrote the hadith on the basis that the prophet entered Medina in Muharram. It is well known that the prophet reached Medina in Rabi al awal. This big mistake is due to a hadith writer that didn’t understand how the Islamic, Jewish and Arabic calendars work. The prophet entered Medina in Rabi al awal but the Islamic calendar began with Muharram due to the suggestion of Ali Ibn Abi Taleb (pbuh):

“The Islamic calendar will start just like the lunar calendar begins. It will start from the year of Hijra but the month of Muharram.”

When the prophet entered Medina, the hadith claims that he exclaimed: “I have a greater right on Moses than what they do. Therefore, my people will fast on Ashura in the same way they are fasting on Ashura”. But we now ask, O messenger of Allah! You entered Medina in Rabi Al Awal and not in Muharram. So, how were the Jews fasting?

It is unbelievable how many people were paid to write ahadith. Plan and plot as much as you want, for “Allah is the best of those who plot” (Holy Quran. Chapter 3, Verse 54). Write as many fake Ahadith and narrations as you will. Allah will expose them all.

Also, when a law is given in Islam, the law may then be changed depending on the circumstances. For example: A law which makes the consumption of alcoholic drinks unlawful has been put into perspective. However, if you were dehydrating in the middle of the desert and possessed nothing but alcohol, then you are permitted to consume it. The consumption of alcohol becomes lawful for you. This is a secondary law. Similarly, there may have been a recommended fast on the 10th of every month (Ashura) and this may have been a Sunnah of the prophet. However, Imam Muhammad al Baqar narrates that as the fast of Ramadan became compulsory, the fast of Ashura was made void and then completely stopped.

Ironically, some people claim that the fast of Ashura is such an important Sunnah to be practiced while there are so many Sunnah of the holy prophet which they neglect. If you are so concerned about the Sunnah of the prophet then why didn’t you speak out when the Sunnah of the prophet was changed! Wasn’t it a Sunnah of the prophet that the phrase “Haya ala khair al amaal” is included in the Azan?
When the second Islamic ruler (Khalifa) came in, he simply altered the Sunnah of the prophet and removed the phrase above from the daily Azan. This is because he wanted Jihad to be known as the ‘good task’ (khair al amaal) and not prayer.

Why weren’t you concerned when the Sunnah’s of the prophet were changed? Is the fast of Ashura the Sunnah of the prophet or the Sunnah of someone ELSE?

The fast of Ashura is receiving the most propaganda because it has an agenda behind it and this agenda involves diverting attention from what happened to the grandson of the holy prophet Muhammad (pbuh) at Kerbala. The aim of the fast of Ashura is to divert people’s attention from the incident which resulted in the remorseless slaughter of the prophet’s own grandson. There is no greater event in the history of Islam than the martyrdom of the master of the youth of paradise; the murder of the Grandson of the greatest messenger and the grandson of the greatest message.

Imam Hussain (AS) said: "Don't you see that the truth is not followed and the falsehood is not discouraged? (The situation is so severe) that a Believer wishes to meet Allah. And today I don't see death but prosperity, and living with tyrants is nothing but disgust and disgrace."

What a shame it is that we honor people whom the prophet himself forbade them his intercession in the Day of Judgment. What a disgrace it is that we praise people whom the prophet declared war against.

In a famous Hadith, the Holy prophet (pbuh) said: “Hussain is from me and I am from Hussain”. (This manifests that Imam Hussain’s pathway and message is similar to that of the prophet. It is as if he is a replica of the prophet (pbuh)).

The face of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) lit up upon seeing his newborn grandson. He took him in his arms and then recited the Azaan in his right ears and Aqama in the left one. The prophet then placed the baby in his lap and wept.

"May my father and mother be your sacrifice," Asma asked him: "why are you crying?"

"Because of my son," the prophet (pbuh) replied.
"He is a newborn baby," she said.
"O Asma…..After me, the transgressing party will kill him. May Allah never grant them my intercession."

The Messenger of Allah also said: "Al-Hassan and al-Hussain are the chiefs of the youth of Paradise and Fatimah is the chief of their women."

It has been narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) looked at Ali (as), Hassan (as), Hussain (as) and Fatimah (as) and then said: "I am in war with those who will fight you, and in peace with those who are peaceful to you."

The Messenger of Allah said: "He who loves al-Hassan and al-Hussain, has loved me, and he who makes them angry has made me angry."

Regarding Imam Hassan and Hussain, it has been narrated that the prophet said: "These are my sons and my daughter's sons. O Allah, I love them, so I beseech Thee to love them and those who love them.”

Moreover, it has been narrated that as the Prophet was passing the house of Fatima (SA), he heard young Hussain crying. The Prophet stopped, went into the house and said: ‘Fatima, don’t you know it hurts me to hear Hussain cry.’

We know ask you, O messenger of Allah! If you couldn’t even bear to see your son’s tears, then how did you cope while witnessing your son’s brutal murder? How did you endure the very sight- your son dying of thirst in Kerbala–Your son gazing at the dead corpses of his friends and family—Your son comforting the women—your son all alone—Your beloved son being attacked from every direction …. Arrows, spears and swords piercing his pure body— ten horsemen stepping on the body of your son…breaking his ribs and whatever remained of him into pieces. O messenger of Allah, how did you withstand seeing the daughters of Fatima Al Zahra running from one burnt tent to the other? The daughters of the chief of the woman of paradise being taken as prisoners of war… being dragged like sheep from one country to the other…. Being harassed by the naïve and ignorant… O messenger of Allah!  How did you endure the sight of Karbala and the very incident of Ashura- the day the skies wept tears.

Is Maclatunji blowing all covers and openly demonstrating he is an "e-agbero"?

Why would you delete an entire thread in honor of Prophet Muhammed's (saw) grandson,Imam Hussein (a),just because you're annoyed with LagosShia? And the thread is very old and 4 pages.why would a moderator display such unstable attitude based on emotions? If the moderator cannot control himself, what role/right can he exercise to control others? Smh!

On the 8th day of Zhul-Hijjah,61 AH/680 CE,Imam Hussein (as) left Makkah for Kufah forgoing the Hajj and instead performing Umra to preserve the sanctity of Makkah and the holy Ka'ba.Yazeed (la) had ordered for the assasination of the Imam (as) even if found clinging to the walls of the holy Ka'ba.the news reached Imam Hussain (as) and he decided to left Makkah to both preserve the sanctity of Makkah and to continue his march to stage his revolution in his bid to oppose tyranny and injustice and save Islam from the clutches of the tyrant.

IslamRe: 9 Reasons Why Muslims Should Be Proud Of Islam by Rafidi: 10:04am On Sep 01, 2012
A good article to be proud of,regardless who wrote it.

If I may add a tenth point there to be proud as a muslim,it is Imam Hussain (as),Prophet Muhammad's (sa) grandson.great men in history like India's Mahatma Ghandi who is popular for his non-violent struggle were inspired by Imam Hussain (as),his sacrifice and revolution in Karbala.Imam Hussain (as) revealed true prophetic character he could only have inherited from his grandfather,Prophet Muhammad (sa).every year Imam Hussain (as) has being remembered and Ashura commemorated.

"I learnt from Hussain how to achieve victory while being oppressed"-Mahatma Ghandi
IslamRe: Why Are They Leaving Islam? by Rafidi: 3:01pm On Aug 24, 2012
LagosShia: this is really a good article and nicely written as well.

in addition to the points raised in the article,i want to add a few.

there is also the factor of the Ahlul-Bayt (as).when you believe in the wilayah (love/leadership/support) of the Ahlul-Bayt (as) you're definitely a step closer to Allah (swt).this is the type of topic where we understand why the Prophet (sa) likened the Ahlul-Bayt (as) to the ark of Noah and said anyone who embarks in the ark is saved and anyone who abandons it is doomed.life is all about struggle and striving to better yourself and your world.that is the essence of life.when you develop the love of the Ahlul-Bayt (as) that will take you to the love of Allah (swt).

when you look at the lives of the purified members of the Ahlul-Bayt (as),you understand that there is nothing too hard that others have not faced and nothing too good that others have not done and surpassed you.that is why the purified members of the Ahlul-Bayt (as) referred to in verse 33:33 of the Holy Quran are called the "proof" or hujjah (decisive argument) of Allah (swt) upon creation.the Ahlul-Bayt (as) have faced the hardest of times and succeeded and they have also done the greatest of ibadah in those times.whether you are a new convert to Islam or born a Muslim,an attachment to the Ahlul-Bayt (as) creates such an emotional attachment based on love and admiration that takes you a step closer to Allah (swt).when you see the most righteous of Allah's creation and the best of creation,Muhammad (sa) and his pure Ahlul-Bayt (as),have faced the worse oppression and triumphed, then definitely you only feel motivated to reach out more for Allah's mercy.

when you remind yourself of the struggles Prophet Muhammad (sa) went through and the suffering he faced in badr, uhud and taif, you know Islam is the religion that leads to eternal success through struggle.you also know in that struggle is a life with meaning that makes you feel fulfilled and pleased with life itself.then you remind yourself that Muhammad (sa) is a true prophet and man of God who is not only hated during his time by evil forces but even after his death and throughout the centuries.his sacrifices continued.when Yazid made a very evil and gruesome statement when Imam Hussain's (as) head was brought to him:"how i wish my ancestors in Badr witness this (i.e. the killing of Hussain,Prophet Muhammad's grandson)",you will know how evil forces operate in society and in the selves of people and how great the sacrifice of the Ahlul-Bayt (as) in the path of Islam.Yazid was referring to his oppressive and arrogant ancestors in the battle of Badr who were humbled by the power of Allah (swt) and through the iman, truthful promise and spiritual strength of Muhammad (sa) and by the sword of Imam Ali (as).

when you send salam to Imam Hussain (as) after offering your obligatory salat and you say:

"Assalamu Alal Hussain,Wa Ala Aliyib-nil-Hussain,Wa Ala Awlad Al-Hussain,Wa Ala Ashabil Hussain"-Peace be upon Hussain, and upon Ali the son of Hussain, and upon the children of Hussain and upon the companions of Hussain"

...you feel you have done a worthwhile action.there is that total sense of satisfaction and purity at heart and sincerity in purpose, which is to pelase Allah (swt) no matter how tedious satan makes you see about following that path.Imam Hussain (as) was offering salat in Karbala when arrows where raining on him and his companions were using their bodies to shield him.you feel you're on the right path through the love for the Ahlul-Bayt (as).

to conclude, this emotional attachment to the Ahlul-Bayt (as) of Muhammad and to Muhammad (sa) makes you love Allah (swt) and the religion of Allah (swt) more and appreciate that path of fulfilling and joyful struggle and even hardship unto the path of success and eternal bliss.even when shaitan whispers in your ears and tries to distract you and society create problems, the proofs of Allah upon His creation make what you see as "burdensome" very light to carry and face and even decisively defeat the impediments as the blood of Imam Hussain (as) triumphed upon the sword of the tyrant in Karbala; and as Imam Ali (as) exclaimed his first words when he was struck with a poisoned sword by a follower of satan, while praying, his words in embracing martyrdom were:"By the Lord of the Ka'ba,I have triumphed"!!! this courage of Imam Ali (as) at that point uttering those words, and best examples of Islamic conduct and morals built on faith and combined with utter submission to the will of Allah (swt) will insha'Allah make us all better Muslims and good believers in Muhammad (sa) and the Ahlul-Bayt of Muhammad (sa).brothers and sisters, the wilyah of the pure members of the Ahlul-Bayt (as) and understanding their wilayah is very important to both submission (Islam) and faith (Iman).
thanks brother.this is very inspiring and i find it more useful than the article in the OP for understanding issues better.
