Permissibility of Mawlid Based on the Quran: 1.) “So (as for) those who believe in him and honour him and help him, and follow the light which has been sent down with him, these it is that are the successful.” (Surat A'raf: 157) 2.) ‘Say: Because of the (fadl) Blessings of Allah and His (rahma) Mercy you should celebrate (with happiness and pleasure). That is better than what (wealth) they amass.’ (Q.10:58). 3.) "And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds". (Q. 21:107) 4.) ‘Indeed Allah conferred a great favour on the believers when he sent among them a Messenger (Muhammad)’ (Q.3:164) 5.) ‘That is the Grace of Allah, which He bestows on whom He wills. And Allah is the owner of Mighty Grace.’(Q.62:4) 6.) ‘And send salaam on him the day he (Yahya) was born, and the day he dies and the day he will be raised up to life (again).’ (Q.19:15) Permissibility of Mawlid in Sunnah (Hadiths) 1.) In a Hadith narrated by Abu Qatada Ansari (rad), Allah's Messenger (SAW) was asked about fasting on Monday, whereupon he said: ‘It is (the day) when I was born and revelation was sent down to me.’ References: a.) Sahih Muslim, Book 6 – Fasting, Vol. 7, Page 323, Hadith 2807 b.) Asad al-Gaba fi Ma’arfat as-Sahaba, Vol. 1, Page 21-22, published in Lahore 1987 c.) Sunan al-Kubra lil Bayhaqi, Vol. 4, Page 286 d.) Musannaf Abd ar-Razzak, Vol. 4, Page 296, Hadith7865 e.) Sunan Abi Dawood, Vol. 7, Page 255, Hadith 2428 f.) Musnad Ahmad, Vol. 49, Page 195, Hadith 23200 2.) The Prophet (SAW) himself celebrated his birth. In a Hadith narrated by Anas, in the Sunan of Imam Bayhaqi, (v.9 p.300 no. 43), states that the Prophet (SAW) sacrificed some animals and performed an aqiqa for himself after the announcement of his Prophethood. Imam Suyuti states that this was not an aqiqa done in the traditional sense since his grandfather had already performed it. It is not possible to repeat an act of Shari’ah once it is already done. Imam Suyuti states that the reason for the sacrifice of the animals was an act of thankfulness and a celebration done by the Prophet (SAW) for his birth. Imam Suyuti concludes that it is mustahab (advisable) for us to celebrate the mawlid in ijtima (collectively) since the Prophet (SAW) sacrificed animals and distributed the food and thus we too should have a gathering and distribute food and rejoice in a good manner (‘Husn Maqsid fî `Amal-il mawlid by Imâm Jalâl ad-Dîn Suyûtî, pp. 64-6). Some critics may argue that since the Prophet’s original aqiqa was done in the period of jahliyyah he wanted to repeat it to ensure its proper performance. However this is not a valid argument because why were other acts not repeated by the Prophet (SAW)? For example why did he not repeat his nikah to Hadrat Khadija (rad) which was originally done prior to Prophethood? 3.) Imam Al Suyuti, from Alhawi lil fatawi, wrote a chapter entitled ‘The Good Intention in Commemorating the Mawlid’ in which he said, ‘To commemorate the Mawlid, which is basically gathering people together, reciting parts of the Qu'ran, narrating stories about the Prophet's birth and the signs that accompanied it, then serving food, and afterwards, departing, is one of the good innovations; and the one who practices it gets rewarded, because it involves venerating the status of the Prophet and expressing joy for his honourable birth.’ 4.) Allama Ibn Qayyim al Jawziyyah, a renowned student of Imam Ibn Taymiyya, writes, in Madarij as-Salikin. ‘Listening to a good voice celebrating the birthday of the Prophet (SAW) or celebrating any of the holy days in our history gives peace to the heart, and gives the listener light from the Prophet (SAW) to his heart, and he will drink more from the Muhammadan spring’ 5.) Ibn Kathir showing his appreciation of celebrating the Mawlid, mentions in Al Bidayah wan Nihayah the Islamic ruler Malik al-Muzzafar. He writes, ‘During Rabi ul Awwal he used to celebrate Mawlid with great celebration, Moreover, he was benevolent, brave, wise, a scholar, and a just person. Shaykh Abul Khattab wrote a book on Mawlid an Nabi for him and named it At-Tanwir fi Mawlid al Bashir al Nazeer, for which he gave him 1000 dinars. His rule stayed till the Rule of Salahiya and he captured Aka and he remained a man worthy of respect. Al-Sabt mentions that a person attending the gathering of Mawlid held by Muzzafar said: He used to fill the table with 5000 well cooked goats, 10,000 chickens, 100-thousand bowls (of milk) and 30,000 trays of sweets.’ This clearly indicates that the practise of Mawlid was commemorated by those who were authorities in Islam. |

We can't say we love Rasul more than his companions did, stil dey neva celebrated his birthday. BetaThings: Without watching the video I can nearly guarantee that you are quoting Sufishere is a Sunni (non-Sufi) link on the permissibility of Mawlid, refuting the salafist argument against Mawlid, and citing evidence from hadiths and Quran in favor of observing Mawlid: http://www.sunnah.org/publication/salafi/mawlid_refute.htm brother "hadbak" has made the criteria to be the sunnah and Quran in regards to observing Mawlid or not.so we shall follow that and see who really is forming laws based on desires, and sectarian agenda to divide the Muslims.for the majority of Muslims (Shia and the Sunni mainstream;with the exception of salafists) to observe Mawlid and see nothing wrong in it,it is neither haram nor bid'ah,and there is nothing in it that goes contrary to the sunnah and the Quran. the basic principle of Islamic jurisprudence, concerning mu’amalat (dealings), applies in that everything is halal (permissible) unless it is declared to be haram (forbidden) by the Qur’an or Sunnah. Thus the burden of proof is on the person arguing that something is haram.you dont simply go about claiming the Prophet (s) never ever observe his birthday (a false claim in itself) and then tag it bid'ah because it is something "new".for anything to be tagged bid'ah in the shariah,it must first be established to be haram.and everything is halal until it is proven to be or made haram. So the question is, ‘Where in the light of the Quran and the Hadith is celebrating Mawlid declared to be unlawful or haram?’ insha'Allah we will examine that in my next post. |
Both Shia and Mainstream Sunni scholars permit the celebration of the Prophet's (s) birthday and see nothing wrong or haram (forbidden) in it,so as to classify it as "bid'ah" (innovation).only wahhabi (otherwise known as salafist) scholars belonging to the Sunni branch of Islam forbid marking the birthday of the Prophet (s).for instance in saudi arabia, where the wahhabi/salafist ideology is prevalent, celebrating the Prophet's (s) birthday is forbidden.the saudis with their petro-dollars have not left any stone unturned to export their extremist, intolerant and blood-sucking wahhabi/salafist ideology particularly among the mainstream body of Sunni Muslims, especially the unsuspecting and susceptible ones.in this line, the wahhabi/salafist ideology and the petro-dollars are increasingly used to battle Shia Islam. it is a known fact that when we observe the birthday of the Prophet (s),we Muslims do so by thanking Allah (jj) more and more for sending Muhammad (s) into this sinful, wicked and evil world,as mercy unto the creations.we don't go about merry-making like the christians or carrying out haram (forbidden) activities.we only do more acts of worship on this day to thank Allah (jj) and also learn more about the personality of the holy Prophet (s).marking the birthday or even death anniversary of the Prophet (s) is in accord with Islamic teachings and the Quran. My Journey to Islam and Reaction of My Family Jan 20th, 2013 | By Lauren Booth | https://www.mybitforchange.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/laurenbooth_profile.jpg Lauren Booth, broadcaster and journalist, is former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s sister-in-law, who converted to Islam in 2010. Here below is her journey to Islam and the heart-warming reaction of her family in this translated version of a recent interview: I thank Allah for giving me the chance to spend a month with the greatest Muslims alive in this Ummah today. At the end of Ramadan, I went to a family home in Rafa one of the poorest refugee camps in the poorest areas, of the over populated city in the entire world. I had iftar with a family there who had about 16 mats, which were used at night to sleep on. In the middle of this tent area the mother places the meal if she has any for her children to eat. This lady greeted me at the door and it was as if she was welcoming me to the Taj Mahal not a hellhole in the Gaza strip. ”Sallam alaykum!” she says with a smile that lights up the whole area. I asked her: “What is it like in Rafa at Ramadan with very little food?” She said: ‘Alhamdulillah!’ with such joy I couldn’t help but smile. And as I sat there on the floor of this home eating what little leaves that they had; a bit of hummus, a pita bread that was our Iftar. I got angry … really angry! I thought what is this God That makes hungry people even hungrier? What is this God Who creates a fast for the poorest of the oppressed people in the world. So, I turned to this sister and I said: “With all due respect I want to ask you, why does your God starve you in Ramadan? Why do you fast in Ramadan…sister, just explain to me?” This lady who never owned a handbag, whose children didn’t have, never had shoes. Whose children I was sitting with didn’t have pen or paper to do any drawings, she said to me: “Sister we fast in Ramadan to remember the poor.” And a key went to my heart and unlocked it. But of course Islam wasn’t for me that was for somebody else so I put the thought of how great Islam was to one side and said so what I like the Palestinian people but it has nothing to do with Islam. Then last year in Ramadan again I went to Iran as a journalist and I visited a mosque there, it’s the Bibi Fatima Mosque and I made wadu because I knew how to do it and I put on a shadur and I made a simple prayer: Allah … and I used the word Allah. “Allah, don’t give me anything. I have everything. Thank you for this journey, but Allah, don’t forget the people of Palestine.” Then I sat down in this busy mosque with women feeding their children, pilgrims coming and going; but when I sat down, this immense feeling of peace came over me. Peace and tranquility that I never knew before, such a calm that the tension in my heart went. There was no sound in my head for the first time in my life as an adult … just deep, deep joy and calm. I sat there for a long time in this place of calm knowing that somewhere in the universe everything is like this. Over the course of that evening women kept coming over to me holding me by the shoulders and saying: “I love you.” At one point a child came over and held my hand and just said in Farsi (Persian): “I love you.” I said to my friend Nadia, “Is this what it is like in the mosque?” She said, “Not really. I think something is happening.” I slept that night on the floor of the mosque with a lot of other pilgrims and the next morning, Fajr sounded and I was inside the mosque and I prayed Fajr. Then I came outside and had a cup of chai and the sun was coming up and I had one very specific thought. “O, no… not Islam, please not Islam.” I just want to say that a couple of strange things happened to me after that. I took the plane back to London from Tehran. As the plane was coming into London the pilot said: “Thank you for flying Tehran airways we’ll be in London in 20 minutes.” And at that point every Iranian Muslim woman took off the hijab and made out like she was from Sex in the City even showing some cleavage. I thought great. Thank goodness, my hands wouldn’t take off the hijab. My hands wouldn’t take off the hijab and I thought I was having a nervous break down. Seven days later I said my Shahada in a London mosque and it was time for me to return to the Qur’an. This time I opened the Qur’an, and Surah Al-Fatiha (the opening chapter) look like saying to me: ‘Hello Sarah where have you been, welcome to the religion of peace, joy and tranquility,’ and I couldn’t put it down. Someone once told me — and I feel much like that before Islam — I had given up on God but God never gave up on me. Alhamdulillah. The question everyone wants to know is how did your family or children react. My two daughters who are very practical and are aged 8 and 10. They came to me with three questions: Mummy when you’re a Muslim will you still be mummy? I said: When I am a Muslim you know what, I will be a better mummy, they said: “Horrayyy!” Mummy will you drink alcohol? I said: When I am a Muslim I will never drink alcohol again and they said “Horrayyy!” When you’re a Muslim will you show your chest? I said why would you ask such a question? They said when you come to the school and your chest is showing we are embarrassed and we hate it and we want you to stop it. I said: When I am a Muslim I will cover all this area and to which they said: “We love Islam.” It was that easy. When you look at those 3 questions the basic female womanhood is summarized in those 3 questions from the purity of children. Question no. 1. Will you be the center of our household? Can we rely on you as a mother to be there for us rather than putting your work, your colleagues/friendships or the bar in front of us? Question no. 2. Will you remain in the limits that Allah has described for all of us in behavior? Question no. 3. Will you be a modest dignified woman in Islam? Alhamdulillah that is all I have to say. What I have learnt this year in being a Muslim is this, when you have problems don’t tell to your friends or family …if you can read the Qur’an every night or read 10 min. everyday your Imaan is much, much higher. If you live in a non-Muslim country those of us who do it can go very low very quickly, you must read the Qur’an. If those who are not on the path of Islam if they come to Islam like me; or, if you’re a Muslim … you are on the path as well, so make sure that you don’t miss those signs in everyday life. All praise is to Allah (Almighty). tintingz: ...shia and sunni what the diffI'm afraid this isn't the thread you may get a better idea of that.there have been tons of threads on nairaland.I'd suggest you go through them.then if you have questions or doubts, you can let me know.otherwise it would take much time going over the same thing over again. |
fellis: Geez. . . .dude, calm down.I'm not giving excuse.I'm only putting things in the right order.its good to read your comment (the end part).sometimes a statement can be perceived in different ways.being Shia has to do first and foremost in accepting the doctrine of imamate and loving the Ahlul-Bayt (as) and disassociating yourself from their enemies.the rest is secondary. |
fellis: Hate?I don't think you honestly expect me to answer your questions/the obvious.may be "Zhul-fiqar's" comment that got hidden by the Moderator would have suited you better. If a non-muslim describe muslim prayer as "hitting your head on the ground",I think that is acceptable too because we do actually put our foreheads on the ground.or are non-muslims right that Islam promotes violence instead of them understanding the concept of Jihad in Islam, regardless of the bad eggs among Muslims working to give Islam a bad image. This man became a Shia because he found the truth in it;not because of anything else.and you don't have to hit yourself on Ashura to either be Shia or revive the memory of Imam Hussein (as).and temporary marriage is an option where suitable.you have defined being Shia by what is contentious and you obviously hold in contempt.and just like we don't "hit" our heads on the ground during solat,Shia don't "flog" themselves during Ashura.you can seek the help of a dictionary to have a better understanding of the words you're using. |
fellis: Poor guy. Now he will have to flog himself on every ashura dayWhy the hate? What's the difference between you and those ignorant non-muslims on nairaland who insult Islam, mock and make provocative/spiteful statements? By Allah, you're worse because your hate and ignorance are coming from someone claiming to be "Muslim". |
alameenLM: may Allaah guide him back to being ah-lul sunnah wal Jamma'ah.... Dear Shabbazz & other shiite, Ali(ra) named his 2 sons abubakr & umar so what is the basis of this faith.Allaah said he'll protect his deen so if the rightly guided khalifs weren't guided, Allaah would have perfected his religion anywayA "shocking discovery" on the names of Imam Ali's (as) sons ![]() Our dear friend has already concluded that Imam Ali (as) must have named his children after Ibn Abi Quhayfa and Ibn al-Khattab. In case, you didn't find this discovery yet,Imam Ali (as) among his over 10 sons, also had a son bearing Usthman! Hint: the son was not named after Usthman Ibn Affan. And among his many sons, his dearest and oldest sons are Hassan (as) and Hussain (as),the masters of the youth of paradise and the grandchildren of Prophet Muhammad (sa) and the sons of Fatima al-Zahra (as).and those sons bearing the names you're joyous about without finding reasoning or explanation, were martyred in Karbala while defending their brother and master,Imam Hussein (as),against the followers of (the legacy of) Saqifa, which was initiated by Abu Bakr Ibn Abi Quhayfa and Umar Ibn al-Khattab. Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) have protected the deen through the Ahlul-Bayt (as),the "ark of salvation",whom the Shia abide by;and not through the band of few sahaba who imposed themselves on the ummah by "hook and crook" that your "ahlul sunnah wal jamaah" (Sunnis) uphold. |

Eight Reasons Why Prayers Are Not Answered A person once, complaining to Amirul Mu’mineen Imam Ali Ibn Abi-Talib (as) about his prayers not being answered, said: Despite the fact that God has said “Call upon Me, I will answer you”, why is it that when we supplicate to Him, He does not answer our prayers? The first holy Imam (as) from the Ahlul-Bayt (as) replied: إنَّ قُلُوبُکُم خاَنٍ بِثَلاَثَةِ خِصاَلٍ Your hearts (and thoughts) have been unfaithful with respect to eight things (and this is the reason your prayers go unanswered) 1. You have acquired the cognizance of God but you do not fulfill what is due to Him; consequently your cognizance of Him has not benefited your state! 2. You have brought faith upon His Messenger but (later) went on to oppose his customs; where then is the yield of your faith? 3. You have read His book but have not acted upon it; you stated: “We have heard and we obey”, but then rose up in opposition to it! 4. You say: “We fear God’s punishment”, but perpetually perform acts that lead you closer to it. 5. You claim to be covetous of God’s reward, however you continue to perform acts that lead you away from it. 6. You consume God’s bounties but do not extend thanksgivings to Him. 7. You have been ordered to be Shaitaan’s enemy; you claim to be his enemy but, in practice, you do not oppose him. 8. You place into great scrutiny the faults of others but conveniently disregard your own. With such a state of affairs, how do you expect your prayers to be answered when you yourself have shut its doors? Be pious, rectify your deeds, and enjoin the good and forbid the evil so that your prayers are answered. Safinah al-Bihaar, vol. 1, pg. 448. |

tobechi20: Plz name one islamic nation that is peaceful witout any violence, war, internal group conflit etcBrunei is not only peaceful but very rich! Bahrain too was very peaceful and rich, until the recently government crack-down on pro-democracy protesters. Syria was very peaceful and stable until the recent foreign plot to topple the government and incite small pockets of opposition and sending of terrorists to destabilize Syria by turkey, saudi arabia, qatar and NATO countries. United Arab Emirates is very peaceful. Oman is very peaceful. Iran is relatively peaceful if not for the assasinations of its nuclear scientists by western intelligence organizations, and the Jundullah terrorist group sponsored also by western intelligence to attack government forces from time to time in the south-east of iran. Uzbekistan,Tajikistan,Turkmenistan,Kirgyzstan,Malaysia,Maldives,Kazakhstan, and Qatar are all peaceful countries one can live in without fear or war. |

Wed Dec 26, 2012 4:15PM GMT Iran’s Navy has developed a missile launching system which aims to increase the precision and range of anti-ship missiles. The new system has been designed in collaboration with the Iranian Defense Ministry and Imam Khomeini Maritime University. Given that all naval units are equipped with short-range and medium-range surface-to-surface Cruise missiles, using the new system will be a major move towards improving the missile capabilities of these units at sea. Meanwhile, Commander of Iran Navy Rear-Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that the missile system could be installed on all vessels and announced that it would become operational in the near future. Sayyari said on Tuesday that Iran’s naval forces are to conduct weeklong massive exercises across one million square kilometers of southern waters as of December 28. He said that the exercises would involve submarines, destroyers, missiles, surface and subsurface combat, torpedoes, homegrown drones and electronic warfare. Sweetnecta: @sexxydivaa; be a muslim. and dont be in a sect.there is no escape from this Shia-Sunni issue or divide.it is historical and affects even the day to day practices.there are many contentious issues which you must face if you decide to stand on your own as an independent party to the two opposing sides in Islam.how do you decide issues like mut'ah,taraweeh, and others? you must examine the facts.and you just cannot do as others are doing for the sake of just been seen as "Muslim",else you'd be torn apart.it is better to be educated on these matters even if your choice is wrong, than to sit on the fence. |
Iran launches ScanEagle drone production line: IRGC Navy cmdr. An ScanEagle drone (file photo) Fadavi added that the US ScanEagle drone recently captured by the IRGC in the Persian Gulf was the third aircraft of its kind downed by Iranian forces; the capture of the previous two ScanEagles had not been publicized. Fadavi announced on December 4 that a US ScanEagle drone had been captured by Iranian forces over the Persian Gulf upon the aircraft’s intrusion into the Iranian airspace. Iran has released footage of the captured drone, which is a long-endurance aircraft manufactured by Insitu, a subsidiary of Boeing. Referring to the capabilities of the ScanEagle drone, the Iranian commander said the aircraft captured by Iran is able to fly for 30 hours on end. Last year, the Iranian military also grounded a US RQ-170 spy drone while it was flying over the Iranian city of Kashmar, some 140 miles (225 km) from the Afghan border. Commenting on the importance of the Strait of Hormuz, Fadavi said, “The Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz are of vital importance for the entire world and any insecurity in this region would threaten the world’s energy security.” The Iranian commander added that in the current situation and given the global economic crisis, the world could not cope with an energy shock, particularly in the Persian Gulf. The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway which connects the Persian Gulf on the west to the Sea of Oman. Statistically, the waterway is one of the world's most important shipping lanes, with a daily flow of about 15 million barrels of oil.
