passwelle: The answer to the "why" is market forces. If you bid high it would open high. You did not and neither did anyone else. All are allowed to bid during pre-market. As to manipulation, it didnt open high and so is within the permitted price range for the day. I guess i should leave you all to your conspiracy theories. I still believe that the fair thing to do is for stocks to open at their previous day closing prices. That way this manipulation by market makers will not happen. BTW I did bid during pre-market once and I was not allowed! |

passwelle: @ all: Spend time to learn the rules from the NSE website. Its a treasure trove of information and will avoid you getting misled. Pay attention to the price limits, it will help dispel all these conspiracy theories. http://www.nse.com.ng/products/equities/market-structure People use the rules to manipulate. Why should a stock that closed on bid yesterday open 5% lower today, just because some people are allowed to bid what they want before full market open? |

EDUECO: FCMB was on full bid yesterday and still on full bid! But has officially gained 1.12% today. Is like FCMB is about to take over retail banking in Nigeria, loan default is negligible in the retail banking sector with little risk. But why are they keeping the price band so narrow? You can't bid more than N0.90. Are some people holding it low so they can accumulate first? |

NSE is a complicated place. So if Naira is not devalued bank shares will fall? Does it mean that devaluation is good for banks? PMB must shine his eyes on these banks. They may be hoarding looted dollars. |

myjoy085: Transcorp were well positioned to benefit from their investment when there is a turnaround in the economy. Presently, the road is tortuous, their significant stake in transcorp hotel is still intact but the problem is the economy, the hospitality industries will perform very poor because of weak purchasing power and poor state of economy( kindly glance at 3rd quarter result of transcorp) the result is not too good. They have debt with banks and with instability in foreign exchange at the moment they will loose much. They have an agreement with some companies to be supplying fruit concentrate but some of the raw materials are imported, with this instability in foreign exchange, I think their will have some problems in fulfilling that obligation.
Skype bank, they have some dark spots including hiding of some money from nnpc during single treasury account which made then to pay heavy amount runs into billions as penalty. Did they actually pay? I know they tried to explain their way around it. But I have not seen a report of them actually paying those N4b. |

But if you still insist on tying it idle on stock market, I guess u should hold till better part of the yr to understand economic direction.
It mustn't be stock all yr round. Understand time and seasons There is also risk in starting new businesses you do not understand. You need time to build them. There is some virtue in being consistent with what you believe and understand. |

PETERiCHY: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupy_Nigeria
Occupy Nigeria was a socio-political protest movement that began in Nigeria on Monday, 2 January 2012 in response to the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government of President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday, 1 January 2012. Protests took place across the country,
THE LINK BELOW IS TODAYS NEWS
[http://sunnewsonline.com/new/nlc-alleges-removal-of-fuel-subsidy-prepares-for-showdown/
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused the Federal Government of removing subsidy through the back door without letting Nigerians know about the process.
A statement by the General Secretary of NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, declared the union would mobilise to resist the move.
“The chieftains of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), who supported and encouraged the massive protests against subsidy removal in 2012 are now preaching the inevitability of subsidy removal.
“The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, first announced that come next year, the price of petrol would revert to N97 per litre and that subsidy would be phased out.
Two days after, he denied this and stated that what he said was that the price would operate within a band of N87 to N97 and that this did not mean removing the subsidy.
The same minister now says that the price of petrol will now be N85 in January signifying the deregulation of the sector.
“These vacillations and flip flops are, in our view, designed to confuse Nigerians and pave the way for deregulation of petrol prices through the back door,”
HOPE YOU NOW SEE THE APC HYPOCRISY THAT IM TALKING ABOUT? You guys don spoil SMN with politics, you now wan do same here. Abeg carry go jare. |

megainvest: An inspiring story for investors in the house:
Neil McCarthy, a research chemist Neil, began investing in the stock market when he was 34. Today, he has a net worth of about $2.5 million. He was not an expert in the field, but he used to do his market research and stay up to date with the market news and information. When stocks went down, Neil used to buy more. Eventually the market bounced back and he ended up making money. The big remuneration came during the 1990’s bull market when his stock got doubled in three or four years and reached $1 million.
Tim Grittani, a twenty-three year old, turned $1500 into $128,000 in a year. First, he learnt to trade stocks from a brokerage house after which he started trading. To open an account in a brokerage firm, he had to borrow money but he didn’t trade with the borrowed money. He started trading from $1500 at that time. Because of his limited capital, he decided to focus on buying penny stocks as he couldn’t buy costly stocks like of Google or Apple etc. Within the first six months of applying what he learned in the brokerage firm, he made over $40,000. At one point, he bought the stock at 40 cents and sold it at 70 cents-all within 15 minutes- and earned $11,000.
Neil and Tim were not financial analysts but they were common people. They did their market research and stay up to date with the market news and turn few hundred bucks into thousands of dollars. So the takeaway is that you do not need to be an analyst or an expert to invest in stocks and in stock market experts’ opinions might turn out to be opposite of what will happen, so it’s better that you must read and do your homework and then invest in stocks. There are countless examples of people who earned billions of dollars in stock market. Investors like Warren Buffet, Ben Graham and Motley Fool earned billions of dollars by investing in stocks and are experts in the field today. They should also give example of those who got wiped out. These are the kind of stories that make people come here and start asking of which stocks to buy to make 100% in one week. |

Elai147: Turn around which fortune? Was Dangote not the former owner? Why didn't he turn the fortune around before now? The guy has just succeeded in scamming Tiger Brands. The former directors of the company who previously resigned their appointments have all been reappointed. Perhaps the next thing would be to change the name back to Dangote Flour . Dangote is probably going to restabilize the price of the stock at around N2 - N3 and then look for another maga to sell to Of course the name will be changed back. The departure of the former directors may have had to do with the ownership at the time. |
