jauntty:This is a good question because some registrars are terrible with communications. They will never contact you back to resolve any problems. The best way is to go to their office if you can. Otherwise call and follow up with an email. |
Mfunkynation:FCMB JIJO has paid some people well well oo. But you need good capital. |

All this discussion on when to sell and still get dividend is up in the air in my view. The system has so many loop holes and inefficiencies to be precise. I heard of cases where people get dividend years after they sold. On the other hand you can qualify for dividend and still not get the money without some hassle depending on how registrars go about verifying your holdings. Of course things have improved with better data handling and e-dividend. For me I normally decide if I am going for dividend. Then I buy early and hold until payment day. I also try to perfect my e-dividend mandate early, and reconfirm with registrar every year. There are stocks that I don't buy for dividend if I had difficulties with the registrars. If I think that I can get dividend and capital appreciation from a stock I will hold after payment date and wait for a rebound after mark down. This is what works for me. I don't try to work the thin line between closure and qualification dates to hit both div and cap appr. |
fxuser:It has been hovering around N1.00. May be now it will move down and join FCMB and Unity. |
mercylicious:Thanks Sis. I can see why div is not so important to you. I need to fine tune my entry points. They say you make money when you buy and not when you sell. BTW where is this New PH? Can you post a Google maps link? I want to have a holiday place in the south. Some place I can hide and think. Happy Easter. |
perewesley:I would think they will mark down by the same N1.55. So as the price closed at N13.00 today, it will open at N11.45 on Tuesday. But I may be wrong. |
Intendy:Those sellers are probably big guys who will make money elsewhere. |
Kai. So people like Zenith div. 89m shares bought today. |
EDUECO:If you want to make this kind of money in the market better start your own brokerage firm. It is only brokerage companies that are making money here. |
fxuser:I hope NSE will trade till 2.30pm today. They used to shorten the day before these long weekends. Lazy people! |
iyb:Practically today since it is the last day to buy. |
The scrumble for Zeee is on |
willyede:Apologies. I just wondered. |
swimcash:It is true that we are here to learn and exchange information. But I wonder how someone who can register on a social media forum and even post, yet he cannot find the price of a stock online. |
holm:[quote]"A devaluation will push up our capital base because of the structure of our capital," GT Bank's chief executive Segun Agbaje, told an analysts' call. He said the top-tier lender had about $700 million of cash on its balance sheet, implying that any currency devaluation would boost profit, though he added he expected no devaluation in the first-half of the year. /quote] Thank God we have a strong leader who is able to resist the pressure from currency speculators to devalue. Just one bank is hoarding $700m waiting to make easy profit from devaluation rather than do what is required of them to lend out the money. At the same time the bank is going out to borrow more dollars from international lenders to do more speculation. I heard that there is up to $20 billion sitting in domestic accounts. Currency speculation has now become the new business in Nigeria to the detriment of developing our industrial sector. |
betcindy:I do not have UCAP so I have not done the math. But you can follow my post with Zenith. Basically waiting for dividend gives an assured income. But the risk is what happens after mark down, and the opportunity lost from not having the cash to enter another bus if the chance arises. There is also the issue of the efficiency of the registrar, and wheather or not you have a perfected e-dividend mandate with them. There is no point going for a dividend that you may eventually not get from the registrars. On the other hand, selling before dividend allows you to lock in whatever profit you have made, and gives you back your cash right now to invest elsewhere. The disadvantage is that you may have to settle for a lower profit than the dividend depending on your entry point. |
Coolcash1:No sweat! You gave me a chance to explain myself. I am fully transparent. |
Coolcash1:Abeg.. I am trying to learn nah.. Me I entered at average 12.76. In fact I bought about 2/3rd at 12.92 and 1/3rd at 12.36. If I exited at 13.30 I would have made about 2.5% considering transaction costs. Compare this to a possible 10% in dividend. So I want to know the kind of profit level that is acceptable to my forum mates nowadays. It will help me adjust. So I really would like to hear from Madam Mercy. We are only talking of prices not volumes. |
megainvest:I don't know. For me I figured that after tomorrow I will be given N1.55 per share and still keep my shares. It all depends on what happens after mark down. I hope passing of the budget will do some magic. |
mercylicious:Pls what was your Zenith entry price? |
Intendy:Let's hope that they did not add things in there that PMB will object to. |
Is the e-dividend management system registrar specific? I went to my bank and they were asking me of the Registrar and stocks I have. |
Dragonking:Dragon why not take this to stock market nigeria forum. You have friends there that will love to discuss this line of thinking all day. Here we like to be more technical. |
IdrisAdebiye:I pity those who were duped by their brokers and bought at N2.24 in crosses before market open. |
fxuser:And some are worse. |
debeey87:Usually higher CRR means less money for banks to generate profits from their deposits, leading to fall in bank share prices. Higher interest rates means investors may make more money in bank deposits than in equities at the NSE. |
MPC has raised MPR to 12% and increased CRR to 22.5%. No mention of devaluation. |
If you want to sell UCAP today may be a good opportunity. |
debeey87:Have to hold mine till closure date. Just hoping the price will stay above my entry price. |
