African culture is different from western culture. Its the wife responsibility to do the house chores and do all the cooking. A husband can assist his wife when she get overwhelm with house chores. If those women play their role as African wife while living in Europe their marriage will last. Most women living in US and Europe don't obey their husband and it leads to problem in the marriage

I think the OP story is not complete because no man in his right sense will ask his wife to submit 100% of her salary to him. Maybe the husband feels like his wife is not supporting the household financially even tho she has a job. Nothing wrong in splitting the family bills by both couple 50-50. But most Nigeria women think the husband should be responsible for 100% of the house finances while she waste her salary on trival stuffs.

Northern states have better roads because of their good terrain and less erosion

jerry brown didn't even bother to campaign. I didn't see any of his campaign ads on tv. The republican candidate in California was not popular and few Californians know him.

The stupidest idea was to localize elections and run away from a unifying message. When you lead, you go on the offensive. Democrats had so many items to run on, but instead they ran away from their accomplishments. Theyin allowed themselves to be defined by the Republican narrative. Actually nothing has changed,in the era of this grandparents,women worked and had income,they were farmers,nurses,teachers and artisans,women made and kept their income,which was how they could singlehandedly send many of their children to school in a polygamous setting,it was not dependent on the man.

Why is this generation of men trying to shirk responsibilty is what I don't get.Some Nigerian men of today ask women to bring all their income,this much I'm sure of.I repeat nothing protects this women when his relatives or second wives come calling in the future,or when he excercises his african right and sends her packing out of his house.this is why what obtains abroad cannot be set as the yardstick for nigeria...the women should always remember this.

And for the men, Don't get married if you can't afford to simple.and definately don't start demanding a womans income to assist you make ends meet,its inexscusable in africa.

why would you say nothing has change from the time of grandparents and our generation? Men earn more back then and most women were not allow to attend school because their parents think the role of a woman is only in the kitchen. Only few women work and most were full time house wife. Things are different now because more women attend school and the salary difference between men and women is not much. There are many women today who earn more than men. Its not a crime for a woman to contribute the bulk of the home finances if she earn more than her husband. My uncle wife is a professor and she earn more than my uncle who is a business man. She help support him financially in his business and their marriage has been okay. Marriage now invovle both couple pulling their resources to help with the finances. Only stingy wives don't help their husbands with the bills if she earn good salary. Its not an African tradition for a wife to be stingy and you better stop that mentality. Things are different now and we are not in 1940s.

i wonder what our society is fast becoming, though i cannot judge their case based on one side story.but the truth is this:no matter what a woman earns,it is the duty of the man to provide for his wife, children and extend family especially in this Africa setting.The reason why a woman expect you to change baby diapers and many other feminine chores even while she is free, is because she helps in playing part of your role.

I feel really sad for your comment because you are a man that reason like a female. Our generation is different from that of our grandparents where the man work and the wife stay at home to raise the kids. The economy situation in Nigeria is different from that of our parents and it now require both couple to work so as to keep the family financial situation good. More women attend school and get good jobs unlike in the past. In a modern African home, it is now require both the spouse to help pay the family bills. Its no longer the sole responsibility of the husband to pay all the family bills. No man wants to marry a wife that will spend all day watching dstv. Women should also work and help with the home finances too. The days of our grandparents is over and we are in a mordern society.

I have come to realize that you seem unaware of the real issues going on in Nigeria or you do not have friends from different parts of Nigeria. I have a female friend from Chibok Borno State and I knew her long ago when boko haram was unheard of. She is a Christian and most of her village are Christians. Then she told me of how beautiful and large Maiduguri city was and all that and how they lived peacefully in diversity. She is married now and has been forced to relocate to Abuja because of the war in Borno. The truth is that FG neglected them for so long thinking it was a childs play or deliberately doing it for political reasons.

The people fighting Boko haram with knives and dane guns are the people of Borno and Northeast(both Christians and Muslims). They do not want boko haram but are often overpowered and live under boko haram rule in order to survive.

you speak like a true Nigerian. I wish more people reason like you.

Why is every northern problem a national one?

Today Boko Haram wants to build a caliphate. Imagine if Igbos would have allowed Clifford Orji to create his own caliphate. Instead everyone stood against the evils committed by their people and solved their own problems. It's only in the north that the FEDERAL government will be blamed for and held responsible for every single problem. Illiteracy is a federal problem, children dropping out is a federal problem, violence is federal, even farming. The federal government is the one building farms in the north, not the locals. Which trade shop did the federal government build for Igbos, and what tailoring shop did it build your yorubas that every single business endeavor in the north is on the Fed's shoulder? Their religion is in the FEDERAL constitution, their pilgrimage discussed in FEDERAL Senate, When they command their children to go on the street and beg the FEDERAL government has to house, feed, school and shelter them. Upon all the children in the south that want to go to school and can't afford it in the north the FEDERAL government is paying kids that don't want to go to school to stay in school.

Remember every single southern family who pulled a child out of school, or sent their daughter to do house girl because they couldn't pay for the school they and their child desperately paid for and the amount of money we as a FEDERATION spend subsidizing Northerners to go to school, fail and drop out.

This isn't just and isn't right. Give me a single quote from a northerner offering a solution to kidnapping, or a quote from a single northerner trying to resolve ritualism in Oyo state that will justify they amount of southern energy, resources, time and intellect that has gone into fighting boko haram for them. When Ihejirika did his own they called him the enemy. Let him come to Abia and service his actual people who appreciate his talent. It's because the north wants to commit suicide that they rest of us need to start thinking of how to fit in a coffin?

Boko haram is not a northern problem but a Nigerian problem. The insurgency has affected the whole country because Nigeria is seen as an unsafe country by foreign investors and that has affected our economy badly. Also if this boko haram problem is not tackled now by all Nigerians. Its going to spread to all Nigeria because boko haram plan is to spread Islamic law to all Nigeria including the south. Although I think the northern leaders should do more but I think all Nigerians should be invovle in the fight.

I don't think the husband mean that the wife should submit 100% her salary to him. The husband must have a good reason to ask his wife to submit her salary. No husband in his right mind will ask his wife for 100% of her salary because he knows the wife has to pay transport to work and also take care of her personal needs. I think the husband feels the wife needs to do more to support the household financially. Some women feel that its the responsibility of the man to take care of the all the bills while they save their salary for themselves. The housebill should be split between the couple and the highest earner in the marriage should pay more of the bills.

To submit her salary for what?...And why would you say she's stingy when you know not why she was asked to? There's nothing wrong in helping the husband sort out some bills but this should be done willingly, and not all bills especially when the husband has the resources to fix it.

we are in 2014 not 1014. Nigerian women needs to change their mentality like women in other part of the world . what is wrong for a woman to submit her salary to husband so that they can pay their house bills and plan their future together. Any woman that is not willing to share her salary with her husband has no business getting married and should stay single so she can spend her salary for herself only.

Don't care if he decide to be a Pagan, Muslim, Christian, jew or a African religionist. I see religion as a personally decision and everyone has right to believe in what they choose to. It wont make me reduce the love I have for my kids.
